Duke of Wellington

Swanspool, Wellingborough
06/03/2019: Popped in for fish and chips it was absolutely delicious. The batter was lovely . Chunky chips and a lively chat with lucas one of the management. There new menu looks fantastic worth a try. Remember and book early to avoid disappointment.
05/03/2019: Had a fantastic meal, pub was very busy, we were served at the bar immediately, the food was so delicious, I don't usually have three courses but I ate the lot, wanted to leave a tip but couldn't as we paid by card, I'll take some cash next time as service was top class, I have eaten in restaurants all over the world and have been in the "industry" for ever, well done and thank you, can't wait to come back

Beckworth Emporium

West, Wellingborough
07/03/2019: Visited yesterday for afternoon tea. On a previous visit, I asked if the scone, jam and cream could be replaced by just a cheese scone and butter. It appeared to cause the staff quite a challenge to do this, but eventually, my request was met. However, yesterday's experience was completely different, with absolutely no room for negotiation, and I was told I could not have a cheese scone - it had to be fruit or plain! I was with a group of friends, so accepted this, as I wanted no fuss, but what is the problem, when cheese scones are on the general menu? A nice young waiter, who could not have been more helpful, though, did bring two of us some butter for the scones, as neither of us wanted the jam/cream option. The afternoon tea itself, though nicely presented, is certainly not worth what it costs, and we won't be going again.
03/03/2019: brought my mum and daughter for a lunch. for once we did not have to queue and the table area was very pleasant. arrived around 1pm but by the time we left there was an enormous queue, presumably for the afternoon tea.

Rocco's

Swanspool, Wellingborough
17/03/2019: I was pleasantly surprised on entering this establishment, as it really does not look much from the street. But as i had heard good things, and it is local to us, we gave it a try. And we are glad we did. The welcome was warm, the food tasty, the atmos convivial, and the house wine more than drinkable. And the bill for 3 courses for 3 people + drinks coming in comfortably under £80 topped the night off. All in all, it was a very nice evening all round. And we got another place on our 'eats out' list to return to.
08/03/2019: First visit to Rocco’s last week and it was a very good one. It is an intimate restaurant and we received a warm welcome. The menu is fairly extensive and we chose the garlic prawns and mushrooms as starters. Both dishes were more than adequate but the former, I thought, was a little overpriced. We chose a bottle of house red and this was excellent value and very smooth. Water was provided throughout the meal, something we always appreciate. We both chose pasta dishes, with chicken-one with mushrooms, the other with prawns. These were generous portions, very tasty and piping hot.

The Griffin's Head

West, Wellingborough, <20£
02/03/2019: Friday night and The Griffins Head was pretty busy on arrival.
10/02/2019: Struggled to find anything on the menu that sounded remotely appealing/vegetarian. When we'd checked the menu options online beforehand we weren't worried at all but obviously that was just a sample menu and the one we were presented with was completely different. There was a truffle risotto or satay cauliflower -these were the only options.

Kohinoor

Castle, Wellingborough
05/02/2019: We were a party of 5 on a Sunday evening which is Banquet Night, which gives you a choice of a starter, main, side or naan at one fixed price. Very busy so would say book a table. We all had a variety of various starters, mains and rice, Bombay aloo and naan bread. Gernerous portions. The food was very tasty and delicious. Service was excellent and the friendly atmosphere made our night out very enjoyable. Would recommend.
19/12/2018: Service was so slow today we sat for almost an hour before eating. Sorry but just not good enough service. I realise you had a large party in but you should accommodate this with your bookings. Will leave a while before going back. Very poor service but good food. Sort yourselves out please

Coach & Horses

Swanspool, Wellingborough
08/03/2019: Burgers for the family everyone had something different and they were all fantastic, great pub, great staff, great chef!
05/02/2019: This is what a proper pub looks like. A huge selection of real ales, friendly bar staff, fantastic comfy interior - and the pies, oh the pies! We ate our lunch here last Saturday, and have to say it was one of the best in ages. We had heard that the pies were brilliant, and they certainly didn't disappoint. I had the Chicken & Thyme, and my husband had the Steak & Ale, served with chips, peas and proper gravy, and a pint of real ale - all for £9.95, excellent value. We could have stayed here a long time, and will certainly return. The bar staff were really lovely and very friendly. Highly recommended.

Nemo's

Swanspool, Wellingborough
02/02/2019: Tried various fish and chip shops in the Wellingborough area and have to say that Nemos comes out as the top in our opinion. Also find the people friendly and the portion size probably the largest around, not that that’s important if the chips are no good but in this case they are.
01/02/2019: I went during the day for lunch and disappointed with food, chips generous but soggy and funny taste. I've heard much better at dinner/evening as everything cooked fresh. Will try it and see.

Akash

Swanspool, Wellingborough
03/03/2019: We went for a meal as my son was swimming locally for a gala.
24/01/2019: I don’t need to get all wax lyrical when giving my review of the food from Akash so I’ll get straight to the point. Hands down these were the BEST Curries I have ever had the pleasure of eating in the whole of Northamptonshire by far!!! The king prawns were sweet, huge and plenty of them! The chicken was so moist I made some very inappropriate noises eating it!! Lol I’m craving another curry already!!! I shall be back Akash!!! It’s also worth a mention about the wonderfully friendly staff too! They really look after you!

Jodi's Jamrock Food

Swanspool, Wellingborough, <20£
17/03/2019: I absolutely love it here, from great high standard delicious food to true customer care, can always have a great laugh with good music and friendly atmosphere
06/03/2019: Very casual dining but a real Caribbean cafe style feel. Very relaxed dining with no pretensions. Reggae music playing and bright coloured decor with the flags of the Caribbean flying. We went as a group of seven midweek and there were a few other tables occupied. Drinks order was a bit slow but then it is in the Caribbean. There was only one waitress but she was friendly and helpful. The cocktails come in a jar and are moreish. Red stripe beer on draft was a hit. There’s a diverse menu which includes wings, burgers, a selection of jerk meats alongside goat curry, salt fish,Ackerman and plantain. We shared starters as they are ample. The corn fritters, calamari and wings were all delicious. Four opted for the goat curry with rice and peas with a roti side. It was tasty and really tender. The Mac and cheese lobster is indulgent and the cheese doesn’t over power the lobster. Meat from two tails, so plenty. The chicken burger with sweet potato fries went down well. As if we needed more the side of dumplings were huge but a great texture with a bit of a sweet taste. There is a great selection of desserts, the sundaes looked amazing but we all declined due to being so full. Next time we’ll share so we have room. A different experience from your usual restaurant experience but we will be back and will bring friends. Around £25 per head for drinks, starters and sides.
