The Woodhouse Arms

Glen Eden, South Kesteven
17/03/2019: Our second visit here. My friend had the fish & chips, I had a couple of her chips & they were lovely. I had the sea bass with a lemon butter sauce, new potatoes & veg. The fish was cooked to perfection & there were 2 decent size pieces. The rose wine was lush & I had the best creme brulee ever. It was devine with Turkish Delight. Unusual combination but it worked brilliantly. The service was excellent even though they were fairly busy. I look forward to returning.
10/03/2019: We have visited this restaurant a number of times and have always promoted it to our friends.

Six Bells Witham

Bourne West, South Kesteven
11/03/2019: Wow! We reserved a table for seven on a week-night, well in advance to avoid disappointment. Upon arrival, we received a warm & friendly greeting and were seated in the Bar until all of our party had arrived, then we were seated right away, close to the wonderful pizza oven which looked and smelled fantastic! We couldn't fault anything, the service was excellent - we felt really looked after without being put under any pressure. The food was amazing too, with about half of us choosing Pizzas and the rest choosing from the main menu. My own choice of Venison was outstanding, served on a dauphinoise potato bar with flavoured with truffle oil, yummy. For Dessert, Chef made me a Crème Anglaise even though it wasn't on the Menu that evening. I can't wait to dine there again. I couldn't even tell you if there was Wifi, free or otherwise, becuase we were all too bust laughing & eating.
10/03/2019: Excellent food and service as always. We arrived a little early and had to wait beyond our booking, not a problem. Great beer on tap and a good place to watch the clientele. Only gripe, car park is a tad small. You must try the pizzas- even if it's only as a take away.

Cloisters Italian Bistro

St Mary's, South Kesteven
10/03/2019: Our first visit to Cloisters. We went with some very dear friends. Waitress was friendly and helpful. We waited quite a while before being served our starters but didn’t really matter to us as we had much to talk about. Food was very good and we were all very pleased with both our starters and main course. Both ourselves and our friends had travelled to Stamford for this meal and wanted to finish the meal off with coffee. Three of our group can only drink decaf coffee. We were informed that they only had enough for one. My friend had some sachets of decaf in her bag so we said could we have their decaf, one cappuccino and some hot water and we would use our own decaf for two of us. We were told it would not be possible to serve us with hot water. We had spent a considerable amount on food and drinks with the meal and found this unhelpful. We did not live close by and would have liked to finish the evening with coffee before our journey home. We said to the waitress that we would not have any coffee at all and asked that our disappointment at not being able to have hot water for two be passed on to management. The manager came over and was quite abrupt and couldn’t understand why we were disappointed about the lack of decaf coffee and the fact that we could not have any hot water and suggested we ordered tea instead. We declined and settled the bill. The waitress then came back with a £7 refund as a gesture of goodwill. This was somewhat appreciated but was a very late gesture and by then we had been made to feel that we had been unreasonable. The whole thing was badly managed. The meal itself was delicious. Such a shame that something so simple left us with negative feelings about our trip to Cloisters.
09/03/2019: We stopped in by chance for lunch and had the 3 course lunch menu. Staff were friendly and attentive, but not too much, and the food was brilliant. There was a slight change to the dessert I chose as they had to substitute the sorbet as they didn't have the raspberry as listed on the menu but we loved our lunch and would definitely return. Only down side, as it is a relatively small place there is only one ladies loo so if its busy you have to wait.

Grantham St John's, South Kesteven, 30-45£
05/03/2019: Booking was courteous and efficient, when we arrived waitress who took reservation immediately remembered one of us was gluten free, food and wine delicious, service terrific, nice atmosphere on dark Monday evening, highly recommended, thanks so much, and great value, parked outside front door
04/03/2019: We enjoyed a relaxed meal in the restaurant. It wasn't particularly busy, being a Sunday evening between Christmas and New Year.

The Mad Turk

St Mary's, South Kesteven

The Brownlow Arms

Greyfriars, South Kesteven
08/02/2019: We managed to get the last room here on a miserable Winter night. The bed was very comfy, the room toasty warm, and fresh milk for tea rather than those piddly cartons is always nice to see. Drinks by the fire in the cosy bar and then a delicious dinner with a decently priced bottle of red. Lucky us. It’s a pity we don’t live closer!
02/02/2019: Had Sunday lunch. 3 courses with superb wine from Berry Bros & Rudd. The food, service, wine and especially the team were just fantastic. Thank you

Piccola Venezia

Grantham St John's, South Kesteven
17/03/2019: We went here yesterday (15/03/19) friendly polite staff, lovely atmosphere and incredible food. Can highly recommend and will definitely be going back.
15/03/2019: This restaurant was a real surprise and a complete hidden gem. The ambience was charming and had a shabby chic authentic feel. The staff were so pleasant and professional and attentive and Italian. Food was first class and homemade. All reasonably priced.

The Stag

Ermine, South Kesteven
16/03/2019: Superb in every way. Make sure you book, while we were here the amount of folks who called in on the off chance of a table was staggering. It is no accident this place is always packed to the rafters! Here is a team committed to excellence; excellent choice, excellent service, excellent quality. Well done, guys
11/03/2019: We arrived on a Wednesday lunchtime and entered the bar area to find it very busy. Menu is traditional pub grub with a specials board. There is something on there for everyone, with lighter bites to bigger meals. I had the lamb shank and my friend opted for fish and chips (comes in large or small, the large was big). We didn't have a pudding.

teaspoon tea company

Greyfriars, South Kesteven, <20£
28/02/2019: In a town that seems in a dire state it was lovely to find this excellent tea room. An amazing range of teas, served just so. The cheese scone was a meal in itself and presented in a most original and delicious manner. Would definitely recommend this place with its charming service.
23/02/2019: In a town with very little good food, this cafe stands out. The friendly staff know their tea and coffee. Light lunches are freshly prepared and well presented. Well worth a detour off the A1.

The Horseshoe

Thurlby, South Kesteven
07/03/2019: Lovely Sunday dinner with friendly service, everything was very tasty and my daughter enjoyed her banana split for dessert!
20/02/2019: The first time we came today. Instantly we were welcomed with a smile by Chloe, she was amazing throughout our visit. Looking after us from drinks to food and taking care of one parties allergies to berries. The starters.....king prawn and home made Paté was perfect. The main course (lamb) was perfectly cooked and I was surprised at the variety of mixed FRESH veg......alot of places now struggle to serve veg let alone fresh veg!

Gurkha 91

Market and West Deeping, South Kesteven
17/03/2019: We visited the Spice Merchant for the second and we booked thank goodness as the restaurant was full and they had turned people away. This place is becoming very popular and you MUST book now.
16/03/2019: All of the food collected was warm and tasty. Would highly recommend the takeaway, haven’t yet had the chance to eat in!

The Boundary/ River Restaurant

Market and West Deeping, South Kesteven, <20£
18/03/2019: Love visiting the River Restaurant for good old fish & chips. Very friendly service by Robyn & the food is never disappointing. I always choose the Haddock as it’s my favourite, but there are many options covering all type of tastes (and non fish options too!)
18/03/2019: We were introduced to this place by my late Dad loved it here so much. Tonight we took an 87 year old relative with us and although my Dad has been gone 4 years now the fish and chips here really haven't lost any of their awesomeness.

Market and West Deeping, South Kesteven
19/02/2019: A fantastic fry up. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection. This is certainly no greasy spoon joint.
18/02/2019: Chester’s is one of our favourite places to eat on a Saturday evening. Like I said, GREAT things come from small packages & Chesters is a small restaurant serving fabulous food. From the first minute of arrival you are treated to very personal service from Christine (part owner) who explains each & every dish on the menu to help you choose your ideal meal for a perfect evening & you are certainly not rushed. The table is yours for the evening..

The Cake Hole

Barrowby, South Kesteven
15/03/2019: My husband and I decided to call in for coffee and cake today. However once we saw the menu, we decided to have a light lunch as many of the items sounded yummy. I had the cheese scone which was served with an apple, walnut and cheese salad together with a cup of Pear & Parsnip soup and my husband had a platter.
27/02/2019: I’ve previously been to the cafe and bistro with adults on a number of occasions. Today I visited with a friend with our two young children due to the new Wednesday opening times had an awful experience.

The Cholmeley Arms

Glen Eden, South Kesteven
15/03/2019: I had been hoping to visit this quite local restaurant for a meal having read the reviews, so I phoned and phoned and phoned and each time no matter what time of day I kept getting the answer phone and I hate speaking to answer phones!
15/02/2019: Without boring people unnecessarily, I think in this case some background may help
