The Boot Inn

Repton, South Derbyshire
18/03/2019: The food was very good. We got an amuse-bouche before the starters which was delicious, the starters and mains were very well presented and tasted delicious. The puddings as well were very good too, sampling all dessert options between us. The service was great, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend. We have eaten down the Boot many times and have never had a bad meal. A truly fantastic local pub.
17/03/2019: Sunday lunch menu, but you have to pay an extra supplement for the roast beef? I'm not sure I understand this one? The quality of food was nice but the whole plate was stone cold! If I'm orderering a hot dinner I expect hot food on my plate. Over £70 for a meal for 2 with one drink each, I'd expect a whole lot better! Sorry but won't be back.

Bulls Head

Woodville, South Derbyshire
24/02/2019: A party of 19 arrived for a 80th birthday meal. Booked in for 2 o’clock normally close at 2.30pm but let us have the room throughout the afternoon. We all ordered about 15 minutes after arriving and starters served 15 minutes later. Becky and her assistants did a great job organising the flow of food. All came out pipping hot and excellent quaility. Good size portions also. Once again main all served within couple of minutes and again very good. Most plates completely empty so says it all. Few including me who had bread and butter pudding delicious. All the staff very pleasant, constantly checking all food was okay. We traveled about 10 miles but worth it. Will return again.
20/02/2019: Really good Sunday lunch at a great price including dessert. The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was great. We were the first in at 12, the only available slot, but it was packed within half an hour. Definitely recommend.

The Harrington Arms

Aston, South Derbyshire
10/03/2019: Just returned from a really enjoyable Sunday Lunch with Friends at The Harrington Arms. The food was delicious and plentiful, home made Yorkshires, lovely roast potatoes, great cauliflower cheese, nice to have warm bread with the starters, and the staff were very attentive and helpful. It's one of the nicest Sunday lunches we've had for a long time and we'll definitely go back for another visit when next in the area. I can highly recommend.
02/03/2019: Had a lovely meal at The Harrington Arms hadn't been for a while. Interesting menu with a good variety of dishes. Very generous portions of well cooked tasty food we just felt a bit rushed but we could have asked for more time between courses. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening will be back soon

Admiral Fish Bar

Seales, South Derbyshire
19/03/2019: Second time visit the shop nice and clean and very friendly with of street parking.
19/03/2019: I used to live in Burton so would visit the admiral quite often. I moved out of the area for a number of years but I have recently moved back and the admiral is still as great as before. We orderd four of the biggest mini fish and chips I have ever eaten. Fish was fresh and the batter was crisp. Staff were very friendly.

Bay Tree Restaurant

Melbourne, South Derbyshire, 30-45£
03/03/2019: Had a champagne breakfast as part of a Hen Weekend. Food choice and quality were superb. Something for everyone. We were a large party (18) but even though there were other tables too the service was swift. We did not have to wait long for food once ordered. I was particularly impressed with the way the waiting staff remembered who had ordered what!! No having to ask us as they brought it out. High standard of service indeed. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
01/03/2019: I had not visited the Bay Tree before and really enjoyed it. The restaurant is charming and food and service were excellent. Top notch bottle of red wine too. Certainly not cheap, but good value for money.

Halfway House Pub/Restaurant

Swadlincote, South Derbyshire
19/03/2019: I recently organised a family party at The Grange, Donisthorpe, A large rentable house about 200 yds from the Halfway House pub. For dinner the first night I ordered a hot buffet from Ashleigh, the pub manager to be served at the Grange. I can only give the highest praise to Ash and his team, the food was excellent, plentiful and good value (there were 20 of us and we had enough over for lunch the following day) Ash and his assistant Ollie arrived with plates, glasses and cutlery even though this was all available in the Grange, they set a nice table and provided a 3 dish hot buffet and dessert. they then cleared up and left us enjoy ourselves, we didn't have to do a thing. A first class service which made our party so enjoyable. Well done! Steve
19/03/2019: Had a great afternoon with the wife, lots of Real ales to sample and bar snacks were wonderful . Always love a village local pub. Great fresh food always served .

Kay's Tearoom and Take Out

Willington and Findern, South Derbyshire
14/03/2019: Been here twice in last 2 weeks with different friends. The tea room is very quaint and clean, the service is efficient and friendly and the food delicious. They have a lovely choice of cakes on view and lovely cards and small selection of gifts. This will become my regular! Thanks

The Coopers Arms

Aston, South Derbyshire
25/02/2019: We went Friday we had a nice meal off the al la care menu. Meal nice bit pricey for a steak. Table service was really good. Music was a bit depressing songs sang not very uplifting quite depressing. Been before and there has been better music.
23/02/2019: This restaurant is in the basement of a large, intriguing looking building (not sure what rest of it is used for as they don't seem to have rooms). By a lake and with a big car park. Went for Sunday lunch and, luckily, had booked as very busy. None of us had realised they offered a carvery as well as a la carte options. We decided on the carvery and there is an additional charge if you have more than one of the meats. Plenty of veg as well as roast and mash potatoes, gravy and condiments (which we didn't find at first). Couldn't sample all the veg as no more room on the plate! I wasn't keen on the texture and taste of my Yorkshire pud. Also managed to have desserts which thought a bit pricey at £6 each. Service was very good - our waitress reeled off all their beer and lager offerings - even though they were extremely busy. Agree with another reviewer that it felt a bit crammed in with tables close to each other, especially when people are moving about to go to carvery counter or to toilet.

Aston, South Derbyshire
03/02/2019: We absolutely love the food in this restaurant. A great choice and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is good and you can go for a flutter on the tables if you wish.

The John Thompson Inn & Brewery

Repton, South Derbyshire
08/03/2019: We missed the turning for Ingleby and ended up going over Swarkstone Bridge which is scary when you meet a lorry coming the other way. Once back over we approached the Inn down a small lane. It was a lot bigger than I thought and plenty of parking. It was nice and clean and staff very helpful.
19/02/2019: The John Thompson is a welcoming pub set in lovely countryside. There was a relaxed, cosy feel in front of the log burner in the restaurant. The carvery was excellent and the staff friendly. We discovered dogs are allowed inside the pub and we will take our own dog with us next time.

Swadlincote, South Derbyshire, 20-30£
13/03/2019: Very friendly service and good food. Menu varied but not huge. Cooked to order which is good. Vegetarian options also included
16/02/2019: We had a great meal to celebrate a number of family birthdays. The food was excellent and the staff couldn’t be more accommodating. It is ‘rustic’, but good value, good portions and a selection on the menu.

Holly Bush Inn

Hilton, South Derbyshire
17/03/2019: Just been for a Sunday roast and it was the best I have ever had. Good portions and great service. Would eat there every Sunday if I could. Also been on a Sunday eve for quiz and curry night which I can definitely recommend.
29/01/2019: We had never been here before but our friends had so we went at their suggestion. Nice place, very rural. We had the spicy beef (a recommendation from our friend) and it was beautiful, and lots of it, a really good choice.

Aston, South Derbyshire
21/09/2018: We called in for drinks as we were staying at the marina and had family coming to see us. There is a play area for the kids which is great if it is warm enough to sit outside.
12/08/2018: Camped at the marina for the weekend so had a few drinks on the Saturday afternoon with a chip butty to soak up the ale then on the Sunday afternoon we ate Sunday carvery which was very nice, good value £.8.95 for medium size which was plenty big enough for me! Plenty of veg to choose from self serve, beef, pork, lamb, turkey, sausage and the kids wanted a turkey baguette with potatoes, and parsnips which at £4.95 excellent value for fussy kids.

08/03/2019: Fantastic food and great service. The open log fire was very welcoming on a chilly day. The reasonably priced food came out promptly and was excellent when it arrived.

The Boardwalk Bar & Dining

Willington and Findern, South Derbyshire, 20-30£
09/03/2019: Ordered beef stew and veg with side order of sweet potato fries....veg was disgusting it was as if it was a month old, very chewy and couldn’t make out what some of it was! Stew had very little meat. Sweet potato fries were cold. On complaining I was offered a coffee or a sweet!!!! I declined both... whilst I finished my drink I saw another person complain and someone else sent their meal back.... certainly won’t be eating here again!
07/03/2019: I have been 3 times this month already. Drinks, lunch & Sunday dinner. Faultless every time. I just wish I lived walking distance(I might buy a boat 😂) Keep up the good work
