Hambleton Hall

Exton, Rutland, 60-100£
19/03/2019: We ate here to celebrate an 80th birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The restaurant is quite formal however you are given time and space and the staff were very helpful. Our courses were lovely and I would recommend this setting for special occasions.
17/03/2019: Hambleton Hall is a magnificent venue , maybe a little ‘ old fashioned ‘ but ideal for the overall experience.

Castle Cottage Cafe

Oakham North East, Rutland
02/03/2019: My boyfriend and I visited the cafe at the start of March. We had their afternoon tea which was priced as £12 per person. But there was huge amounts of food! 5 sandwiches (1 per person so 10 in total). You chose your own sandwiches which I thought was great as I’m a fussy eater. We chose egg, cress and bacon, mango and chicken, the club sandwich (ham, chicken, avocado and salad), salmon and soft cheese and tuna and cucumber. All were delicious!!! We then had 2 slices of cake each, a piece of ginger and chocolate tiffin and a blueberry scone. All with a large pot of tea. If you ask me, this place is lovely, and so pretty too. The guys that work their give great customer service.
27/02/2019: Very disappointed to see how run down the outside seating area has become. The summer house in a very poor state of repair with plants growing through roof and walls, curtains and furniture in need of restoration, a hanging basket full of dead flowers outside. The garden is in need of major tidying, pots of dead flowers on table.

22/02/2019: My husband and I had a very pleasant lunch at lake isle today. The food was very tastey and I would highly recommend the seafood omelette.
17/02/2019: Lucky to get a cancellation for Sunday lunch. All the staff were so helpful. We were taking an elderly relative for lunch and their accommodating personality was so refreshing. Every dish left you wanting more, we cannot fault this restaurant or staff and excellent value to boot.

Olive Branch

Greetham, Rutland, 45-60£
13/03/2019: Well, after what was supposed to be a nice day out was spoilt. In all my life have I never felt like they made us feel. Thinking they were better class than us, suggesting that it might not be our sort of place etc. Telljng us one minuite that we can take a dog into the bar area then deciding that we cant then charged us £24 for two drinks, a tiny bowl of chips & 2 ping pong ball sized fish cakes. Probably to make sure we dont come back, well cheers, we wont be back in this snobbish hole ever again.
10/03/2019: Four of us had lunch and enjoyed all the delicious food. When we arrived my brother asked me what I wanted for my “birthday drink”....we then ordered all the drinks and then the food. After the main course, we decided to share 2puddings between 4 of us. When they arrived there was also a plate with yummy assorted chocolate treats and beautifully decorated with Happy Birthday. I asked “who ordered this ?” And no one had ! It transpired the waitress had picked up when we ordered our drinks that it was my birthday. How’s that for brilliant service ? We were so impressed and a big thankyou to the waitress! We shall return but we live in Northumberland!

The Wicked Witch

Ryhall and Casterton, Rutland, 20-30£
18/03/2019: Fabulous Sunday lunch, skipped starter as we all wanted to eat the main and leave some room for dessert. All the meat choices were cooked beautifully, and the veg was cooked perfectly. Presentation good. Desserts were good quality, the pannacotta and sorbet is especially good, light too. A return to the ‘Witch’ is definitely on in the not too distant future. Excellent service.
18/03/2019: Having heard goodr reports,we decided to meet our friends fir lunch . The pub is quirkily decorated along the wicked which theme.and very comfortable.

The Wheatsheaf

Greetham, Rutland
19/03/2019: I love this place. The menu is always good with plenty of choice. The food is kept simple and is bursting with flavour. I had the oxtail fritters to start followed by the tiger prawns. Delicious. My wife had mussels followed by the duck breast. Delicious also.I saw lots of the liver coming out which looked amazing.
17/03/2019: Fantastic find, whilst caravanning in the village. Wine, food, staff, atmosphere all spot on. The chef Carol was brilliant, she cooked my partners meal exactly as he requested, as he is a very fussy eater.

10/02/2019: We visited on a Sunday evening as food is served all day and most other places stop serving at lunchtime. It was a very pleasant experience. The Pub is welcoming but not pretentious, the prices fair and the food was good. My husband had a pizza and I had a meal and both were really nice.

The Grainstore Brewery

Oakham North East, Rutland, 30-45£
06/03/2019: Excellent tour led by Jack. Friendly, knowledgeable & the perfect mix between information, opportunity for questions and “banter.” Been on several brewery tours in the UK and abroad and this was the best !
19/02/2019: Visited with 20 of my fellow rugby players over from Leicester on a Saturday evening. Rory the guide/brewer was brilliant taking us through the well informed and enjoyable tour. Beer was sensational as was the post tour atmosphere in the bar where there was a band playing. Local punters were great too including the lads from nearby oakham rfc who we bumped into to make a great night better. Cheers for everything and hope to see you again soon

Horse and Jockey

Martinsthorpe, Rutland
15/03/2019: Cycling around Rutland water with the family Ona day that started sunny and ended wet and windy we came across the horse and jockey- what a welcome sight- friendly staff and a roaring fire welcomed 4 wet cyclists! The homemade soup was delicious and we all tucked in to crusty baguettes. Thank you to the team at the jockey for a lovely lunch and a welcome respite from the storm - we will definitely be back!

The Noel at Whitwell

Normanton, Rutland
03/03/2019: Our Saturday night out turned out to be an unexpected delight. Not sure what we were expecting as we booked it last minute but turned out to be excellent food and excellent service by Mark (owner). If you've previously passed it by for a meal out then give it a go - the food was fab.
28/02/2019: I have to say this place was the biggest let down by a Tripadvisor rating I have ever experienced. I still can't understand how a restaurant with such a high rating could be so dreadful. We went as a large group last summer, having pre-ordered our meals. Our first impression was was in line with the rest of our experience; the decor was plain ugly, and outdated with no character whatsoever. The carpets were worn and grubby. Our meal then just descended into farce. The food itself was merely unimpressive but the service was what really let the place down. It was painfully slow even though the place was half empty and highly unprofessional (mistaken or forgotten orders, dropped glasses and food, I could go on). We just ended up laughing the whole experience was so awful. And pretty embarassing for me as the organiser of the lunch.. Avoid.

The Wheatsheaf

Normanton, Rutland
11/03/2019: Enjoyed a nice three course meal on a Sunday afternoon. Service was good and the menu has a nice range of options. Most of our party had the Sunday roast and throughly enjoyed it.
15/02/2019: Food is good but not great pub grub. The lasagnes are terrible. The bechemal sauce comes as a slice The meat sauce is dry and the vegetable lasagne comes with a pile of veg in the middle.
