Hambleton Hall

Exton, Rutland, 60-100£
02/01/2019: Food was very good ! Can not wait to marry the love of my life there ! Was the best meal I have had for a long time
29/12/2018: Really fantastic if you can afford to stay here, but it is very very lush with some excellent service as you would expect for the price you pay, just don't go if paying £5 for a glass of bottled water horrorifies you

Otters Smokehouse and Deli

Oakham North East, Rutland
08/11/2018: Been to see the poppies at Oakham Castle. Then came across this place thinking it was a deli and discovered it also had a cafe.
06/11/2018: Nice coffee. Really like the deli. They have a great selection of cheeses. We’ve had lunch a couple of times and it was pleasant and enjoyable.

The Wheatsheaf

Langham, Rutland
10/12/2018: We had been working hard, preparing the village hall for a wedding and we needed to stop off for a meal. My wife and daughter both had steak done to their liking and vegetables and I had the chilli off the specials board.
10/12/2018: Visited with friends and two children, waitresses were friendly and polite. Marv went the extra mile when one of the children requested jelly for dessert, she brought over two pots of jelly even though jelly was not on the menu - two happy children. Roast Beef was delicious, would highly recommend.

Olive Branch

Greetham, Rutland, 45-60£
18/12/2018: First visit to Olive Branch - cosy setting with a snug feel. The menu was good, with lots on offer and the quality of the food was very very good. If the service, which was at times slow and a little rushed/not very attentive had been better then I would say for a country pub/restaurant it’s one of the best....
17/12/2018: Our first time visiting and first impression as we entered was the attention to detail .They knew we had a child table was set for her. Staff outstanding food amazing what more can you want .Son wife and little project enjoyed themselves .Nice touch the email thanking you for visiting .

The Wheatsheaf

Greetham, Rutland
04/01/2019: My wife and I have eaten at The Wheatsheaf on quite a few occasion's mainly for dinner service and I have nothing to grumble about, The food is always excellent with subtle changes made throughout the year, the menu caters for all although a pudding is a rare treat for me preferring a starter and main coarse . On the beverage side the IPA is a favourite for me and also the frequent guest beers to try an excellent list of wines are available and suitable seasonal cocktails also on offer, the usual salty snack s are available behind the bar if you only have time for drinks the bar also giving room for a pool table and dart board the Wheatsheaf doing a fine job of catering for all. Both the Bar and restaurant service is spot on with just the right amount of on selling to keep you comfortable during your stay, with always a warm welcome to newbies and regulars a like its a good place to visit, children and pets welcome.
01/01/2019: We ate here two nights in a row, on both occasions we had excellent food and really outstanding table service. The menu is really good, our New Year’s Eve meal was so tasty. Try it when you’re in the area!

The Noel at Whitwell

Normanton, Rutland
30/10/2018: Booked a night away with bed, breakfast and evening meal included. Took our dog with us and he was made welcome too. The owners were attentive, friendly welcoming. The rooms were well appointed and clean. Dinner was exceptional and the service fab. Full English breakfast next day. Excellent value. Thank you.
24/10/2018: I decided to avoid the traffic and take a break part way in to a long drive so I checked Trip Advisor and found The Noel at Whitwell

The Wicked Witch

Ryhall and Casterton, Rutland, 20-30£
25/11/2018: Another great taste experience last night at the Witch 🧙‍♀️ great tasting food, plus cheesecake to die for.. All the staff were brilliant... well done Damian and the team 👍
18/11/2018: This was the first time I’d visited the Wicked Witch and I wasn’t disappointed. My dad has a peanut allergy and I am gluten intolerant so we’re probably nightmare customers but they made it feel like it was no problem and we felt reassured particularly for my father.

Jackson Stops Country Inn

Greetham, Rutland, 20-30£
07/12/2018: Four of us went for lunch and you definitely need to book.
30/11/2018: Had a Three course Lunch here today. Great service, good food and not expensive. Would highly recommend. What impressed us was that we were not rushed through the meal and main course was freshly cooked to order with enough vegetables. The portions were perfect not so large that you left food. We even had enough room for 3 courses, They do light lunches, sandwiches and the 3 course meal so meets all needs for lunch.

Lake Isle Restaurant

Uppingham, Rutland, 45-60£
30/12/2018: I am only posting this publicly as I have had no response from Lake Isle, so perhaps they will now pay attention.
18/12/2018: Lake Isle was the first choice as a birthday venue with friends for my partner. It was our first date together and the second visit with friends. We are never disappointed but the food was outstanding on this occasion. Most of the party had game, pheasant and partridge! I however had A Taste of Fungus! Possibly one of the best dishes I have eaten and I am a real foodie! There were clean plates every course! The deserts too did not disappoint. A study of white chocolate a firm favourite! We all wanted to return ASAP! Tomorrow???

Castle Cottage Cafe

Oakham North East, Rutland
24/11/2018: Visited Castle Cottage Cafe today after hearing about it on Facebook. Took a friend with me and it was truly lovely. Food was delicious, service incredibly friendly, decor was very cute. Would definitely revisit next time over that way. Thanks to the owners Steve & Karen for making it such a worthwhile visit for us.
20/11/2018: We had our wedding at castle cottage cafe in September 2018. The day was perfect and everything we could have wished for. The staff at castle cottage were amazing and really went the extra mile with all of the special extra touches. Food was brilliant, and the setting was lovely. We were very pleased with everything and will be back for more scones soon. Would recommend highly to everyone for a visit and lots of our friends and family will be going back for a visit. Thanks for everything, Lisa and Dan

The George & Dragon

Lyddington, Rutland
30/12/2018: Popped in after long lovely dog have half a dry cider..then felt very hungry..asked if I could eat although had'nt booked..very helpful and accommodating and said I could eat shortly..produced huge plateful of food..roast beef mostly rare what I asked for..but too much on plate..which was a shame as it puts your appetite off..but very nice place and one of my locals so shall be back !
14/12/2018: We eat as a group of 6 last night. All the staff very helpful, friendly (and generous) when squeezing us in. The food was superb. We'll be back soon.

Horse and Jockey

Martinsthorpe, Rutland
11/12/2018: Although the service and atmosphere was great unfortunately the food didn’t measure up to it. Three of our party had the roast beef lunch and the other the ham. Overall the meat was very disappointing, the beef being overlooked, dry and gristly. The ham was very watery. The cost was very reasonable but perhaps increasing the cost and serving better food would be a good idea.
09/12/2018: We had Sunday lunch here today and although service was a little slow, the food was very good, waitress and bar staff very attentive, friendly and welcoming. Plenty to do around the local area including Rutland Water and Bugtopia. Would not hesitate in recommending this pub.

Exeter Arms

Ketton, Rutland
08/12/2018: Visited with friends for lunch after another walk along a different section of the Jurassic Way. A perfect place to end a walk and lunch was as good as before. I had the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwich, very reasonably priced and came with chips and salad. Great beer on tap too, from The Grainstore Brewery, a great local brewery.
10/11/2018: We booked lunch on a Saturday for friends and family. Lovely welcome from Joanne and Tom. Excellent chef clean plates (all round), food at reasonable price. Log fire, view of village green. Looking forward to going back soon !

The Grainstore Brewery

Oakham North East, Rutland, 30-45£
12/12/2018: The beer was pretty good - especially the stout. Food was standard pub/burger fare, but reasonably priced. However my wife (a cultured and sensitive woman) and I had our visit ruined by a group of uncouth older people who insisted on speaking loudly with at least one F or C-word in every sentence. Turned my beer sour. This could have been a one off, but the management behind the bar seemed to know them and ignored it. Therefore we likely will not be back.
10/11/2018: Called in with group of cyclists, soup of the day was cheese and ale, thought I had misheard - fantastic, and served with lovey bread, and a pint of Panther

The Fox Pub and Restaurant

Normanton, Rutland
11/11/2018: I had read here that The Fox served the best Roast Beef in the Rutland area and so I booked for an 80th Birthday celebration. The beef was superb and so was just about everything our party ordered. The staff were fantastic too.
24/10/2018: The menu was interesting and there were some great features, like it was a really traditional proper pie and the lamb shank was very meaty.
