The Devonshire Arms

Unstone, North East Derbyshire, 20-30£
05/12/2018: Haveing visited this delightfull establishment back in November i can only give it rave reviews. The food, service, and overhaul atmosphere was eccelent and family and freinds throughley enjoyed our night
02/12/2018: Per il pranzo domenicale, prudenzialmente riservo un tavolo in questo ristorante situato nella pittoresca campagna di Sheffield. In ragione delle tante entusiastiche recensioni, la mia aspettativa e' piuttosto elevata.

The Old Vicarage

Ridgeway and Marsh Lane, North East Derbyshire, >100£
16/12/2018: Felt a bit rushed into the restaurant, the open fires weren’t lit, so no cocktails in the lounge, and the place was virtually deserted, all this on a Saturday night. Good is always good here, but no atmosphere whatsoever.
29/11/2018: Service superb. Food amazing. Wine just gorgeous. Staff wondrous. The Old Vicarage never fails to provide an amazing evening of celebration. Jyst adore the place.

The White Horse at Woolley Moor

Pilsley and Morton, North East Derbyshire, 20-30£
30/12/2018: Not really a pub, much more a restaurant serving superb food. The portion sizes for evening meals are sensible, the food light and very tasty.
27/12/2018: Booked Christmas meal for a large family party, beginning of December, having visited before and had a nice meal.

The Crown Inn

Killamarsh East, North East Derbyshire
24/10/2018: We are regulars at this villaage pub & always get value for money & tasty food along with well kept beers. Clean eaterie & very pleasant staff who make all feel welcome. Thank you once again Roger & team.
14/09/2018: We visited the Crown in Killamarsh on Friday evening 14th Sept 2018 after some friends recommended it. Wow....we weren't disappointed. The landlord was friendly with a cheery welcome as we walked in and were shown to our table in the dining area. The waitress too was smiling and cheerful and took our orders. As it was a Friday I decided on the 'hand battered cod' with 'hand cut chips' and mushy peas. My fear with fish and chips is that they will be greasy. I need not have worried the chips were nicely cooked as was the fish. The batter was crispy and tasted really good. The whole meal was completely grease free with generous portions .My friends also commented on the high quality of the food and we all agreed that this was the best 'pub food' in the area we had come across so far. We are regular visitors to local eating establishments and know the ones to avoid. So if you like to eat out on good old fashioned pub grub in nice ,clean friendly surroundings then I would highly recommend the Crown pub to you. We certainly will be eating here again. Well done to all the staff concerned.

The Tearoom at Cliffe Park. Callywhite Lane.Dronfield S18 2XP

Dronfield North, North East Derbyshire, 20-30£
13/12/2018: Thanks to Victoria and her team for a Perfect Christmas Party with delicious food, bring your own wine (no corkage), Christmas tunes and lovely Christmas decorations.
07/10/2018: My wife and I visited today with our two daughter's and one of their friends, for some hot drinks and cakes. We arrived very close to closing time (sorry!) but we were made to feel very welcome.

The Black Swan

Ashover, North East Derbyshire, >100£
06/01/2019: We visited the swan with my sister and mum who both live in the village. They had always raved about the food and I was happy when they suggested going there. We were certainly not disappointed.. wonderful food. I had lamb shank and my husband had salmon. Extremely well presented and wonderful flavours. Staff very pleasant and cheery. Wine a good price and very nice. Overall a lovely evening spent with special family. Well done Jamie. We will be back next time we are in Ashover.
02/01/2019: We visited the Black Swan during the Christmas period while on holiday in the area. We had our dog with us so had to sit in the bar to eat, which became a bit crowded as it was a Friday night and we were sat on the table right by the door - we moved to another table when it became available and that was better, and it also calmed down a bit at the bar too. The actual restaurant looked really nice. There was a lot of choice on the menu and the food was delicious and portions huge - none of us could finish! They did forget a couple of our sides but they arrived promptly when we reminded them. All the staff were lovely and dealt professionally with a few people who were becoming a bit too boisterous. The pub was nicely decorated for Christmas and had a good atmosphere. There was a small car park but also plenty of parking on the road right outside. Would definitely return to the Black Swan if we're in the area again.

The Plough Inn at Brackenfield

Shirland, North East Derbyshire
04/01/2019: We had booked a couple of months in advance being as it was Christmas dinner(there was 3 of us) We have been here before for food and wasn't disappointed so thought we'd come back to this cosy little pub for Christmas day.
02/01/2019: A great disappointment after hearing a good report about this place. The more I think about our visit the more irritated I become with myself for not complaining at the time. We had booked, but there appeared to be no prepared table waiting for us.I was told to report to the bar to check our booking and was immediately asked for a drinks order, whilst the rest of the party stood and waited to be seated. Our bare table (except for condiments) was in a draughty, dark corner and I seemed to spend some of the time with my head half in a dusty chimney. I could have moved but then would have been in the way for anyone going past. Another table would have been better. We should have asked to be moved at the start. A waitress whilst very pleasant, when spoken to, was more concerned with setting empty tables than providing us with cutlery. We had to keep asking. Admittedly because of a mix-up regarding our starters we were given a reduction in the final bill but it did not make up for the lack of seasonal welcome or indeed any feeling of welcome. We felt more of an inconvenience, virtually ignored. It is all well and good to print welcome on serviettes but a bit of social interaction is much better, The starters were satisfactory but the main courses were sadly lacking. The roast potatoes were burnt, but there was plenty of mash. The crackling was missing and the vegetables unappetising. Certainly not up to the standard of a few years ago. All in all not a happy experience and definitely not worth the money. Not to be repeated. (The lavatory outer doors should be kept closed for various reasons, from both the users and passers-by points of view.)

Horse & Jockey public house

Shirland, North East Derbyshire
31/12/2018: Let down. That’s all I can say. Entertainment left at 11. More thought needs to be put into what customers need. More effort by the people responsible for entertainment. Not a place to celebrate New Years at!!!! May as well of stopped at home would have been more fun!!
30/12/2018: we visited today for a Sunday lunch and it was fabulous.

Little Italy

Dronfield North, North East Derbyshire, <20£
14/12/2018: Excellent food and service as usual. Staff and owner Georgio nothing too much trouble and always made welcome and always a smile. Great evening
02/12/2018: Visited as a party of three on a Sunday evening. We wasn't aware it was half price on pizza and pasta when we arrived so this was an added bonus. Antipasti was approx £8.50 and had two breadsticks, six mixed olives, cured meats, salad and parmesan shaving. Adequate for one person and needed balsamic glaze, oil or a tapenade. Was OK but didn't wow us. The garlic and cheese pizza was tasty but the bases were brought in and not what we expected from reading previous reviews.

The White Bear

Pilsley and Morton, North East Derbyshire, 20-30£
03/12/2018: Having driven past for many a decade at long last ate here. It won’t be long before we eat here again. The outside is not much to prepare you for the quality of the food and service. Friendly and polite staff.
24/11/2018: Been coming here the last few years and never fails to impress . Came with my friend for Sunday lunch we both had pork which was perfect . I had the guest bitter which is top notch and my friend red wine which she particpated of a few. Always good quality and the price reflects the quality.Nice chat with Sue and her husband after.

Kathmandu Gurkha Restaurant and Bar

Clay Cross South, North East Derbyshire
06/01/2019: First off,we visited this restaurant a few times but the service has declined on every visit This time we went on News Years Eve so expected it to be busy, but.......
31/12/2018: Ordered a take away on New Year’s Eve. We arrived to collect as we only live across the road.

The Tickled Trout

Barlow and Holmesfield, North East Derbyshire
03/01/2019: Visited while staying over nearby - wanted to do something special for NYE and Tickled Trout didn't disappoint. Four of us shared some starters and great wine - main courses were fantastic - go for the duck, haddock or chicken all fantastic - we ordered 3 deserts to share. Special thanks to Chris and wife (and excellent staff) for making us so welcome and for Chris in sharing some of his cooking secrets. Will be back again.
01/01/2019: We dined here on a Sunday with friends and children.

Wessington Village Chippy

Shirland, North East Derbyshire
28/11/2018: In the area for a week on a family holiday and the kids decided on Fish & Chips on the last night. Arrived at teatime to see quite a number of people standing outside. The chippy is very small and we found out that you place your order, receive a ticket and wait outside til your number is called. The number of locals in the queue says it all.
26/10/2018: Initially I was concerned by the large queue, however I quickly discovered this was due to the lovely food, good prices and organised service. Easily coped with our order for 15. Would highly recommend!

North east Derbyshire Snooker Centre

Tupton, North East Derbyshire, 20-30£
28/11/2018: We attend the Snooker centre on a regular basis and can honestly say we have never had a bad or even an average experience with them. The food on all occasions have been out of this world and not quite sure how they do it for the price!
20/09/2018: Never disappointed . The good and staff are second to none. Fresh veg ,yippee. It's a lot to go with friends and family .

The Snug

Gosforth Valley, North East Derbyshire
11/11/2018: I regularly visit this lovely café during my dog walks while in Dronfield. The coffee is lovely and the cakes delicious. They recently catered for my Mum's funeral and di a brilliant job. Out door seating makes it very easy with my dogs and I always feel welcomed.
18/07/2018: Everything you would expect from a cafe. Nice coffee, food and cake. Staff are friendly. I would go back again.
