The Saracen's Head

Clifton and Bradley, Derbyshire Dales
04/06/2020: We are here every week because the food is cooked by a superb chef and he tries to vary the menu so thzt it is never boring. If you have something that you would like Robin to prepare you have only to ask him and, given enough notice, will try to get it for you. I can't wait for this lockdown to end so that we can eat there again.
29/03/2020: Updating whilst trapped at home. Remembering our last visit before the lockdown. Great food, hot, plentiful, served by the ever positive and professional team. Its consistently gets 10/10. We cant wait to return!

Stones Restaurant

Matlock All Saints, Derbyshire Dales, 45-60£
25/03/2020: I have been to Stones a number of times and have always been really impressed with the food, the service and the setting. The staff are very attentive and friendly and the food is always wonderful and nicely presented. I am vegetarian and always find there to be a good selection of choices. It is ideal for couples or small groups. The set menu is good value for money but the evening tasting menu is even better.
01/03/2020: Visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening after waiting a few weeks to be able to get a reservation when we wanted. Stones is well worth the wait.A small intimate place and I asked to be seated in the conservatory. We chose the tasting menu and every course was sensational. Nothing more I need to say, other than outstanding. The service was of a high standard and we felt wanted there. We will most definitely be back in the near future.Having eaten all over the world in lots of amazing restaurants, Stones is well up there. My husband and I loved it.

Lighthouse

Norbury, Derbyshire Dales
13/03/2020: Another incredible menu!Been to this fabulous restaurant lots of times and it just never disappoints! Staff are friendly welcoming and knowledgable, and the food is wonderful! They always manage to take familiar flavours and update them in incredible ways! Looking forward to our next visit.
13/03/2020: Visited for the first time this evening having heard from friends how amazing it was. We weren’t disappointed. The staff were attentive and well informed creating a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The tasting menu is creative, modern, beautifully presented and above all it tasted out of this world. Well worthy of a Michelin star but having the benefit of a reasonable price tag. Overall well worth a visit. We will be booking again. Thank you for an amazing evening.

Parkys Eatery

Masson, Derbyshire Dales
10/03/2020: Really tasty breakfast in a great setting. Great service too. We were lucky to get a table so maybe book if you can?
07/03/2020: My friend and I went for afternoon tea . We hadn’t met up with each other in a while so we had lots to catch up on!We were there till closing time and David didn’t make us feel rushed at all. I had never visited Parkys before so my friend tells me one needs to book in advance for the afternoon tea as everything is baked especially! Oh my word what a feast of delights! I have been for many afternoon teas all around the uk but wow, this one has surpassed them all! The variety of cakes and pastries is amazing.A blackberry mousse in a glass was delightful and all beautifully presented and decorated with edible flowers! We also had a glass of Prosecco with ours. The scone was full size too! We were unable to finish out afternoon tea so David the owner carefully packaged our leftovers up for us to take home with us! Thank you David for a lovely experience, it was lovely to chat with you,and thank you for helping my friend to find the piece of land that was up for sale in the area! Who knows, she may end up living nearer to the shop so Il definable be joining her again to take up your hospitality again. One question I should have asked is,Do you provide Gluten free afternoon tea to order, as my husband is Gluten free and hasn’t been able to have an afternoon tea out for years. Wishing Parkys a continuing successful business.

Samuel Fox Country Inn

Bradwell, Derbyshire Dales
15/03/2020: As experienced foodies we travel far and wide to sample the best on offer. However, it is always extremely satisfying to find a local venue pushing beyond the norm with their culinary offering. From outside it looks like another pub but inside the menu tells a different story. A seven course tasting menu for £57 there must be a catch, but the imagination and quality seemed to excel with each course. The goats cheese and beetroot was punching above its weight and the pan fried sea bass with its mussels and orzo was supreme. The host was very accommodating whilst juggling a number of tables working with a limited number of staff the price could afford. If there was one minor critique, the choice of biscuit with the Stilton was basic and lacked the imagination of the previous six courses, perhaps the chef was exhausted by the end.Allin all we would highly recommend this Restaurant for those who want a good degree more than juat pub food.
08/03/2020: We had the vegetarian tasting menu. Each dish was really tasty and beautifully presented. There was just the right gap between courses apart from dessert when maybe a slightly longer break would be better to make room for it. The service was excellent so all in all a really lovely evening.

Packhorse Inn

Litton and Longstone, Derbyshire Dales
01/03/2020: One of my favourite pubs ever, albeit I don't get chance to go as often as I would like. Visited for lunch and myself and my boy enjoyed steak, perfectly cooked as requested. My wife enjoyed her buffalo burger, and my mum really lover the pork belly, back pudding and mash (which I wish I had ordered but got off by the calorie count!). I had a taste though and it was tasty and tender. Always have a different selection of good, well kept beer, with at least 2 or 3 from Thornbridge, which are always nice. The roaring fire kept us all warm. My advice to anyone visiting is to 100% book and also to "SHUT THE BLOODY DOOR"!
26/02/2020: Called in for lunch after reading the reviews. It was like a step back in time. The Inn is full of character and it made you wonder who has visited the establishment over the years. Staff were friendly and welcoming. I can recommend the Venison it was cooked to perfection. My wife had the pork belly which she enjoyed. Well worth a visit especially if in the area walking. Recommend booking a table first

High Nellys

Tideswell, Derbyshire Dales
07/03/2020: A very cheery cafe with good food and coffee. Especially good after a long walk in cold, wet hills! I would recommend the full breakfast if you are hungry or some of the beautifully poached eggs in the various combinations offered. A restful haven in the Peaks.
22/02/2020: Full English breakfast and Eggs Benedict were both equally delicious. Lovely clean and comfortable surroundings.

Il Lupo

Chatsworth, Derbyshire Dales
29/03/2020: Our local Italian... the reason we moved to Baslow. We’ve been coming to il Lupo since the very early days when me and my wife were dating, some 7 or so years ago and have never been disappointed. Fantastic food, great atmosphere but in these uncertain times due to coronavirus, they are limited to take away only... and it’s lovely. We had great pizzas and salad tonight at home, rather than in their lovely restaurant, but it’s at time like these you need to support your local businesses... so calling people of Baslow... eat from il Lupo!!!
22/03/2020: We had a takeaway today to celebrate Mother’s Day at home. Food was delicious and packaged well for the journey home. Would recommend. Great to support local independent businesses.
