The Saracen's Head

Clifton and Bradley, Derbyshire Dales
27/11/2019: Excellent lunch and pleasant service in a warm and informal dining room. There were 8 starters and 15 mains on the blackboard, and all were freshly prepared and beautifully presented. The fish is always good, and my pan fried skate was superb, and huge.
26/11/2019: Very nice lunch here recently. Chicken liver pate was good and served with plenty of toasted bread . The roasted duck was excellent with a really punchy orange syrup, ginger didn’t come through much but it was delicious regardless. Lyonnaise potatoes and simply steamed vegetables were cooked perfectly.

Packhorse Inn

Litton and Longstone, Derbyshire Dales
03/12/2019: Stumbled across this pub on a quiet Monday an hour before closing and the staff couldn't have been nicer. The pub itself is absolutely gorgeous, very nostalgic and felt like stepping into a different time period. The food menu was extensive and delicious. Would recommend to anyone.
22/11/2019: Recently visited Chatsworth for a few days and our airb&b; host suggested the Packhorse. What a great suggestion. The meal was lovely, great choice, beautifully cooked and presented but the atmosphere was fantastic. It was quiz night and the entire pub was included and involved. One of the best evenings for many years. I will definitely return. Thoroughly recommended.

The Green Way Cafe

Matlock All Saints, Derbyshire Dales, <20£
02/12/2019: Fabulous and delicious, fresh, healthful food with lots of vegan options. Cant wait to come back again.
28/10/2019: Travelling back from Manchester to the Midlands we chose to go the tortuous route on the A6 rather than the motorway as we wanted to try this place. It was worth the journey. First class food in every way. Great flavours, generous portions and beautifully presented. Huge bowl of carrot and ginger soup served with a basket of warm rolls. Cashew and hazelnut roast with mustard and herb sauce and a magnificent salad. Cafetière and chai tea. Lovely, friendly service too. Couldn’t fault it. Eat vegan and vegetarian food in top places in London and Manchester. This little gem can stand with the giants. Go!

Village Green

Hathersage and Eyam, Derbyshire Dales
08/11/2019: This was a revelation! Had never heard of it - a friend gave me a Gift Voucher for a meal there so I went, as you do. I must admit I was intrigued by the Gift Voucher as it isn't a common occurrence, particularly for a small cafe in a small village. Particularly in an ex Plague village. ! I will be returning, and often. I had the most luscious tasty toastie I've ever had, of smoked cheese, spinach, ham. The revelation was that it came with 3 different small side salads. Now, I tend to view salads as a necessary irritant for the purposes of decoration only. I am a now a carrot convert, and a salad disciple. The carrot salad comprised sultanas, chopped cheese, almonds, and raisins. There was a rice salad - even more to be despised - I ate the lot. Then the 'green' salad was also wholly devoured. How can one put so much tantalising taste into salad for heaven's sake??? My friend couldn't believe his eyes and - his special subject is stating the obvious - he said 'you've eaten salad. All of it' Yes, said I. I really don't think that the prices are high for the standards they have set. And - on a cold grey day, with flood alerts all over - the cafe had a full and steady stream of customers over the hour and a half we were there. No crowding, no discomfort, no rushing - just clearly a place known far and wide by a certain lucky lot of people 'in the know'. Of which I am now one! So that's a breakfast next week, for sure.
02/11/2019: Absolutely superb food. So much so I returned a further 3 times during my 2 day visit to Eyam - and every single mouthful was to die for! I can't wait to return to revisit their wonderful spinach and feta tart, goats cheese frittata, roasted veg toastie (with delicious salad), orange and fig cake, peanut butter flapjack, pea and mint soup with homemade bread. I could honestly eat every single thing on their fabulous little menu. What a great little cafe. Unmissable if you are in the area..... and seriously worth a detour if you are not!

Charlie's Bistro

Chatsworth, Derbyshire Dales
29/11/2019: We booked the restaurant on a recent visit to see the Christmas markets at Chatsworth. We arrived shortly before 7.30pm and were immediately seated. The restaurant is a small intimate bistro with about 30ish covers. Our greeting was very good and we even had the chef come out and say hello. The menu covered a number of different types of food whilst not being massive. We plumped for scallops, breaded goats cheese as starters and lamb and chicken for mains. Complimentary bread and olives arrived promptly and our drinks order was taken. By this time the place was quite busy and we were prepared for a wait, however our starters arrived quickly and were lovely, breaded goats cheese with beetroot and pesto and scallops with risotto. The portions were generous. We finished starters and after a very reasonable space of time the mains arrived both which again were delicious along with a generous serving of potatoes and a mixture of veg that included a really nice spiced red cabbage. My wife washed it down with a nice Sauvignon blanc and I, unfortunately had the sparkling water as the designated driver. Too full for desserts, I had coffee. The whole meal was under £90 and was worth every penny. One thing that does need to be mentioned is the service. The young lady who served us was attentive and pleasant and made the evening a pleasure. Thank to all at Charlies.
12/09/2019: A nice little restaurant with a good atmosphere. Service was excellent - very friendly and efficient. All three of us had excellent meals - all three courses were tasty and well cooked. Price was very reasonable for the quality of food. Would definitely recommend.

Samuel Fox Country Inn

Bradwell, Derbyshire Dales
24/11/2019: We stay here every year for my husbands birthday . Fantastic food !! I cannot fault it . Good quality ingredients cooked and presented to a very high standard .
18/11/2019: We were taken by our family to celebrate a special birthday on a Saturday night. There were six of us and one is a vegetarian who is also GF and another one is dairy free so it’s not always easy to suit everyone. We had given prior warning and have to say arrangements were made with very little fuss to accommodate all of us. The young man who was around all evening was really good, sorry no name but he had red hair ! The food was excellent, from the beetroot risotto to the lovely sea bream. Desserts were luxurious and birthday chocolates much appreciated. Thank you for helping to make a rare family get together so special..
