The Saracen's Head

Clifton and Bradley, Derbyshire Dales
10/06/2019: My mother and I dined here on two nights running. Superb staff, especially the delightful Naomi. We enjoyed our first nights choices so much we repeated it for the second night. Beware it gets busy even on early week nights, I chose the beef bourgeon. Comfortable dining and a reasonably varied menu. There is only parking for about 6 cars outside the pub itself so prepare for a little walk through the tiny village of Shirley.
09/06/2019: Booked a meal for 10 to celebrate my 40th birthday. The saracens head gets it right every time. Food, service & atmosphere absolutely perfect. Everyone enjoyed the evening & all said they would love to come back soon. I opted for the beef bourgnignon & treacle tart (with added birthday candle) which was amazing as always. Thanks to all the team for making my birthday special. Can’t wait to come back again soon.

Norbury, Derbyshire Dales
09/06/2019: Each course interesting , and certainly enough to feel satisfied by the end of the meal. Good service , lovely room, comfortable seats .
09/06/2019: This was booked as a treat to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The atmosphere is lovely with candles and fresh flowers on each table. However there is no choice other than the tasting menu. There were many courses that I would never pick so at £60 each before drinks for me personally it was expensive for food I did not enjoy.

Curry Cottage at Lovers Leap

Calver, Derbyshire Dales
14/06/2019: We dined in the cave, which you have to ask for specifically when booking. It's a beautiful, intimate setting where as a couple we could enjoy our meal in peace and quiet away from everyone else. The food was Excellent and the staff could do enough for us. The restaurant doesn't have an alcohol licence so don't forget to bring your own. They do serve soft drinks and water
07/06/2019: I must agree with the person who said it was the best curry they have eaten! We had such a good evening. The flavours worked well without being over powering. Nice ambience too! we liked the fact that we could take our own wine and beer. They don't charge for corkage but do for water but this doesn't matter as it's worth it.

Stones Restaurant

Matlock All Saints, Derbyshire Dales, 45-60£
13/06/2019: Our fourth or fifth time to this restaurant. Food is excellent every time, service is also very at tentative. Certainly going back.
12/06/2019: Amazing food, great staff, beautiful setting. Bit expensive but definitely worth it for a special occasion.

Packhorse Inn

Litton and Longstone, Derbyshire Dales
13/06/2019: What a great little pub this is with it’s old fashion snug rooms, super atmosphere and dog friendly areas.
12/06/2019: So we got there for opening time in the evening; enjoyed a few of their choice real ales while studying the extensive menu with gluten free and vegan options. It got busy quickly and is obviously popular with locals for both drinks and food. Service was prompt and friendly with the barman advising on gluten free choice. The food was excellent, deserts too at a reasonable price. Rich meaty dishes and a fruity crumble with custard kept me full for ages. The three of us all agreed it was a great find and well worth our visit.

Stella's Kitchen

Hathersage and Eyam, Derbyshire Dales
13/06/2019: This place is off the beaten track, we discovered it last year whilst walking from Foolow to Eyam.
13/06/2019: We walked past here last year and swore to return and try it. So glad we did.

Maazi Indian Restaurant

Hathersage and Eyam, Derbyshire Dales
10/06/2019: Maazi is always a must for us when we visit the Peak District. Coming from West London where there is such a big choice of Indian food we love the twists they make to their traditional dishes. Where else would you get a beetroot and coconut samosa, taxi driver curry or Aunty Pavern’s fish curry. The service is always very attentive and even when they are really busy you don’t have to wait long to be served.
08/06/2019: Whilst staying in Hathersage with a group of cyclists we had a meal at Maazi’s. We received a warm welcome on arrival and shown to our table straight away. The menu had something for everybody, the food was delicious and well presented and the service was excellent. I would definitely return to Maazi on a return visit to hathersage.

Hassop Hall

Litton and Longstone, Derbyshire Dales
08/06/2019: We’ve been coming to Hassop hall for decades! My partners family for over 40 years. It’s one of those special places rarely exist these days. For us it’s like being back on the QE2! In fact I’m often searching for my sea legs whilst dining in the amazing splendour of this fantastic family run hotel. We will miss you more than. You will ever know! The food, wine and service is always above our expectations Thank you!
11/04/2019: We are so sadden by the news that this lovely hotel is closing its doors in September. We booked to stay here for our 20th wedding anniversary in October, but were shocked when we were informed while booking a table for dinner, that it would be closing it's doors to the public & was being retuned back into a private residence. We arrived last month for a 4 course meal on the Friday night & we weren't disappointed! The greeting we received was warm & friendly, the nibbles, the décor, the atmosphere & the good old fashioned opulence was wonderful. Everything we had hoped for, we could taste, touch, see & smell & took it all in with relish. Signs sadly of a bygone era. I wish we had discovered this beautiful hotel & it's delights sooner! Thank you so much to everyone for making our visit very special indeed. Good luck to all the staff concerned & we hope they will all be as happy in their future careers as we hope they have been at Hassop Hall.

Bakewell, Derbyshire Dales
18/06/2019: Meal was okay, nothing to particularly rave about. The restaurant is a little tired and needs updating. However, very busy when we were there. Service was okay.
16/06/2019: These guys were awesome, really went the extra mile for us! We were new to the area and arrived late so there was no food and they chucked us a curry together to collect right at closing time. So, so appreciative, and the food was gorgeous. Thanks again to the lovely staff for helping us out!

Hathersage Social Club

Hathersage and Eyam, Derbyshire Dales
31/05/2019: This place combined excellent food, reasonable prices, gracious service and a non-pretentious atmosphere. It really was a wonderful evening. I felt like was a ‘guest’ not a customer.
23/05/2019: Really enjoyed the food at Hathersage social club, very relaxed atmosphere and very tasty. Squidgy chocolate brownies were lovely but far too much. The only downside is the parking although we managed to get on the road, I would imagine this is quite difficult at weekends.

The Bowling Green Inn

Ashbourne North, Derbyshire Dales, <20£
18/06/2019: Returned to this venue for lunch with. Friend. Service impeccable as always and fantastic lunch, well seasoned, amazing flavour with the Steak! My friend had the homemade soup of the day Leek and potato and swore it was the best soup ever tasted! She takes some pleasing lol. Lots of homemade ciabatta bread too ❤️ Definitely worth a regular visit!
14/06/2019: What a lovely homely place to eat the steak was amazing and the desert was yummy the caramel apple cobbler with ice cream I definitely recommend it.

Eyam Tea Rooms

Hathersage and Eyam, Derbyshire Dales, <20£
16/06/2019: A great menu of sandwiches, jackets potatoes and breakfasts, but save room for the cakes and puddings! The best thing about this place though is the staff. Definitely recommend this place.
16/06/2019: Had been before and looking forward to it. Scrambled eggs of toast took a long time and undersized...tben overcharged at the till (check your order against the prices)

Il Lupo

Chatsworth, Derbyshire Dales
17/06/2019: Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Great food, plenty of choice on the menu. The staff were all very efficient and friendly, wouldn't hesitate in going back the next time we are in the area.
16/06/2019: Love this place, always great service and food is amazing, big party of 11,everyone thoroughly enjoyed, will be back soon.

The Green Way Cafe

Matlock All Saints, Derbyshire Dales, <20£
28/04/2019: We eat at The Green Way Cafe from time to time and have never been disappointed yet. Food is freshly cooked and although we are not strictly vegetarians, we always eat veggie when eating here because the choices are tasty, unusual and not what we would normally eat at home. Salads are excellent, staff are friendly and we would highly recommend a visit.
26/04/2019: Felt very unwelcome when we first arrived. No selection of coffees, either with hot or cold milk. Wouldn't recommend for a drink.

The Shalimar

Stanton, Derbyshire Dales, 20-30£
16/06/2019: I was recommend the Shamilar by a local pub in the Bakewell village for the best Indian takeaway. After having a delicious takeaway we decided to book it for a couple of days later for a birthday meal as we had family visiting. The food was outstanding, probably the best Indian we’ve had in a long time!! The service and friendly staff made the meal even more enjoyable and will definitely be returning when next in the area. When booking the table I mentioned it was for a birthday and the effort the restaurant went to was definitely above and beyond! We had balloons, banners and even a delicious chocolate cake !!!
16/06/2019: The Shalimar is an absolutely amazing restaurant. I booked in a party of 30 people for my 60th Birthday party. As always, we were made very welcome from the moment we walked into the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They made sure that all guests were kept filled up with the drinks and were served the meals all in a very professional manner. They constantly observed the tables and topped up the bowls and plates as required.
