The Devonshire

Scarcliffe, Bolsover
30/05/2020: We have visited The Derbyshire on many occasions prior to lock down so thought we would give their takeaway service a try. I can't say enough how professional, safe and easy the experience was from phoning the order through to collection, and the people I spoke to were all very friendly and helpful. All aspects of social distancing and staying safe had been thought about. The food, as usual, was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked and still hot when we got it home - compliments to the staff in the kitchen. We will definitely be using this service until we can visit the pub again. Thank you.
18/05/2020: The best place to eat. Great for date night, celebrations and a treat night. Valentines set menu never disappoints. Friendly staff, nice decor, high quality food and relaxing atmosphere.

25/05/2020: What a relief, didn't have to cook this weekend. Had excellent takeaway from the Elmtree. Husband and daughter loved their roast pork with all the trimmings. Had so much lovely veg, we had enough for another meal. Great value and well worth the drive to pick up. Will be back again next week.

The Pebley Inn

Barlborough, Bolsover
15/02/2020: Let me start by saying that the only problems with the Pebley, in my view, were that the menu was a bit restricted and the portions too big, the service and the quality of the food were always good. With a larger, slightly more adventurous menu the place has gone up a notch in my estimation and although I still feel portions are a tad big, there did seem to,be a small scaling back. The level of service is way above most similar establishments and the presentation of the dishes is pleasing on the eye, whilst the food is pleasing on the pallet. On our recent visit, three of the four of us happened to remark that we would have ordered a particular dish, if they came with one item changed, so they promptly changed the dishes for us, which I wouldn't expect to see in many establishments. We had a sharing starter, which was excellent and three different mains, which were also excellent, but left no room for dessert. The prices are reasonable and although the wait for food was a bit longer than normal, it was to be expected as we followed a large family gathering, in the ordering stakes. The bar staff are also friendly and make good recommendations, so all in all the Pebley is well worth a visit.
05/01/2020: The atmosphere was good , a great place to catch up with friends as plenty of room to mingleService was average but very accommodating and pleasant staffJust make sure you tell staff exactly how you want your meat cooked Not massive portions but children portions very good

08/03/2020: Visited with Mum, Sis and Aunt for brunch . We travelled from Doncaster to take Mum and Aunt on nostalgic trip round their childhood haunts when we came across this little diamond. What a lovely place very well decorated great ambience. The lady behind the counter was great very attentive and accommodating. Service was superb , due to unforeseen circumstances we could not stay long so just ordered tea, scones and tea cakes . All of the food was first class and we were served very quickly which we appreciated. Will definitely go back when we can stay longer. Lovely place , food and staff.

Care For A Cuppa

Clowne South, Bolsover
25/10/2019: Fairly basic menu but nevertheless wholesome, very tasty food. Really lovely and helpful staff. Well worth a visit.
01/09/2019: This lovely tea room is fabulous. Homemade cakes, bars and scones, not to mention a healthy selection of panini's, toasties and jacket potatoes. All come with crunchy salad garnish, and the fillings are abundant. Thickly sliced ham, real chicken breasts. The price is amazing too, real value for money. The staff are attentive, friendly and a real joy to be around. Nothing is too much trouble.

Lime House Cafe

Elmton-with-Creswell, Bolsover
30/04/2020: took our grandchildren for a treat. Quite expensive but large portions of cake, if we'd known each piece was big enough to share
24/02/2020: Very busy and bustling cafe at 1.0 pm and because there was only 2 of us and we were happy to share a table , we got seated quickly and the food came fast too.The mushrooms on toast was a huge helping, the sourdough toast crunchy and the poached eggs just right. Always enjoy the food here

Elmtree Pub

Scarcliffe, Bolsover
22/07/2019: Excellent, food, staff, dog friendly and complete vegan awareness !!!! Best restaurant in the area for a Sunday dinner ...👍👍👍👍👍👍
05/03/2019: How wrong can you be! On arrival greeted warmly and shown to our table. The welcome was only exceeded by the food. Everything lovely. The gravy was to die for and the Yorkshire puds are fab u lush. We were a party of 4 and half our number only lived 1.5 miles away and hadn’t been for years. They are now going to be much more regular and although we live rather further away are already looking forward to our next visit. Keep up the good work at the Elm Tree . You are a gem.

Chip Inn

Whitwell, Bolsover, <20£
31/10/2019: Been going to this chippy for years, but decided to try something new on the menu. It was to die for, generous portions and fresh and hot. Great variety too, from traditional fish and chips, to kebabs burgers and wraps. Everything is cooked to order, which is a great thing. Maybe a bit of a wait when busy, but the staff are great, helpful and friendly whilst you wait. Can order online or by phone and pay by card. Wonderful chippy, great service and welcoming staff which is a rarity nowadays. Definitely service with a smile #teamchipinn
28/09/2019: Just what you want from the local chippy! Always fantastic. A really friendly team, and the menu is always improving and moving with the times 🙂

Glapwell Tea Room & Coffee Shop

Scarcliffe, Bolsover
11/02/2020: We love to come here for afternoon tea, its nice and cosy with the fire on over these cooler months and the food and drinks are really good. The staff are really friendly, the service is good and the place is always clean. The chocolate fudge cake is divine!!You can have unimited tea or coffee so its a good job theres a toilet in the main garden centre. There is plenty of parking whch is a bonus. There are plenty of little birds around which is lovely to see, we bought some stuff from the garden centre which is always a great price and high quality.Make sure you visit!!
02/02/2020: We stumbled upon this cheery little garden centre cafe when returning from walking in the Derbyshire Dales one weekend. It is clearly a popular spot as the tea room was packed, and the atmosphere cosy and friendly. Service still quite speedy from the staff at the counter, and we had a decent sized cherry scone with generous jam portion, and a good-sized cup of americano. The coffee wasn't bad, but not the best, and no crema at all. The afternoon tea looked exceptionally good value at under £10, though, with very generous helpings - unfortunately, we didn't have time to tarry to test out other people's high ratings of the afternoon tea treats!... another time perhaps.

Clowne fish bar

Clowne South, Bolsover
06/03/2020: I have been visiting this chip shop for the last 20 years since I moved to Clowne. There was never a day I missed buying a chip cob on my dinner break from school and I always enjoyed it, even though I've been left school many years now I still used to visit at least once a month for some chips, but on the last 3 visits, I've gotten half way through the chips and had to stop to be physically sick. I don't know if this chip shop has changed the oil type it uses or something like that, but the chips do not taste anything like they used to and after being sick on 3 occasions, I'll not be trying the chips again sadly. I can't comment on the fish or meats they serve, as I've never eaten them, it's only the pea mixes or chip cobs I've had.
09/10/2019: To late back to cook tes ee called in on way home and had a chippie night. Beautifully cooked nice bit of fish Jumbo sausage and large portion of chips. (Share the chips as watching the waistline). All very tasty, reasonably priced and piping hot. We will definitely be calling again.

Hardwick Inn

Tibshelf, Bolsover, 20-30£
27/07/2019: So today went with a large party to the main restaurant. Young girl rude, asked for meal for my daughter (that you could get in the bar), shes a fussy eater. Repeatedly told no can't do that, it's the owners rules. Well owners if your reading this thats a pathetic rule. There was 13 adults so dont see why a child can not be catered for for a simple chip cob (we'd have paid the full meal rate for the set menu as we stated).
14/04/2019: Lots of staff but still took asking 3 separate people to clean our table. Quality of Sunday carvery was disappointing. Vegetables didn't seem very fresh and all the parsnips were burnt. Expensive for the quality received.
