Went for Sunday roast. Asked for turkey but it wasn’t carved off the bone like all the places we have been too. Instead it looked like processed meat on a roll. I was cut 2 very thin slices but that was ok as it was so bland and tasteless that I left it. The rest of dinner was ok except for rubbery parsnips, they were not crisp or roasted at all/ much. The desert was very nice. It’s a lovely pub in a pretty town ( thought it was a village but it seems Clare is a small town) We would go back for drinks in the garden as that was pleasant but not for Sunday dinner.

What a fiasco. You couldn't make it up, talk about Fawlty Towers. I stayed in room 6 this year, after specifically requesting not to stay in room 2 with it's enormous bright green Fire Exit sign on all night. The nice young lady had some trouble letting me into room 6, the one right at the end of the block, but eventually we got in. Straight away I noticed that the original lock had been replaced and a bodge job had been done. As it was warm I left the door open for a bit. When I wanted a shower, I tried to lock the door from the inside, this proved impossible. So I went to the bar and explained and the nice young lady came back and said that her Dad would be along soon and he would have a look at it. Which he did. I returned the next evening at around 5.30, the pub garden was full, with drinkers seated around 6ft from my "front door". I couldn't get in. Again. I spent an embarrassing 5-10 mins trying, viewed by all of the drinkers outside. Eventually a nice chap offered to come and help. He too tried for ages and said the lock was utterly broken. He didn't quite use those words though. :-) Then someone came out from the bar at my request and she literally had to kick the door in to gain access. All of this took place in front of the whole beer garden. On Sunday morning I tried to leave the room, I was unable to. I was locked in. As chance would have it the landlady rang me, to ask what time I wanted breakfast, on telling her of my plight she tried to gain access from outside and failed. Then another lady turned up and she climbed in through the window. Eventually, between them they got the lock open. This took some time. I wonder what would have happened if there had been a fire during the night? Perhaps I should also add that the duvet was torn, the wheel on the bed was broken, so you were sleeping at an odd angle. There was a dried blood stain on the duvet and a rip on the mattress cover. The sofa was very worn. There was black mould on the inside window and on the bath. The toilet seat had been screwed on wonky. I eventually located a wifi charger point, hidden behind the bedside table, but it didn't work. I requested a discount, given the ridiculous situation with the lock and was offered £50 off a three night stay. Given the amount that is being charged, that was derogatory. She eventually gave me £100 off . with no apology.

To celebrate our civil partnership and my 85th birthday we invited 28 friends from our village to a buffet evening at the George Hotel. They deserve praise for the wonderful selection of food, reasonably priced, the service by the staff and the help and professionalism of Roxi the General Manager. Thanks to them it was an evening to remember forever.

Haven’t been here for a long time, but went here for a birthday breakfast. The food was beautifully cooked and they swapped my egg for an extra sausage without any problems. The café offers panoramic views of the reservoir. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It was a great way to start my birthday celebrations. I will certainly return again.

Firstly our waitress was really friendly and took time to explain what gluten free options were on the menu for my friend. Despite being busy the service was good. The food was ok, but nothing special. There is a good choice of food on the menu. It is definitely worth going here before a show at the Cliffs Pavilion but do book as it’s very popular.

Three night stay at this hotel. We had a large room on the front but were not bothered by the traffic noise. The room was very comfortable and clean. The decor was outdated but they are apparently in a refurbishment programme. Breakfast was super, plenty on offer and hot food excellent. The young girls that run the front of house were very friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble. Good value for money.

We visited for my mother in laws birthday. Family of five. Service was fairly slow (although plenty of staff hanging around) but we had a polite young man serving us. There was also a group of young staff playing around and giggling in the bar area… When the food eventually arrived (2 chicken burgers, two fish and chips and a ham and chips) everything was overcooked/burned. The fish also tasted as if cooked in old oil… We did complain, but nothing was said and we received a full bill… To be fair we have eaten there twice before and the food was fairly good… But for a Friday night the place was sparsely occupied - tonight’s offering is likely the reason why! Never again.

Terrible meal had by all. Food was extremely low quality and vastly overpriced, steaks were like sponges and fish was burnt and dry. The toast for pate was burnt. The staff couldn't even manage the drinks - retaining the opened soft drinks cans sold at full price as mixers. There is better out there and we will not be back. The front of house staff had extremely limited experience and although polite, seemed like it their first day. Poor experience and wasted an evening out.

What we had was good, however, according to the Blackboard the meat was Beef, Chicken, or Gammon. Unless you are known to Chef, after we had eaten he came and offered two guests LAMB.. I will attach a picture of our ‘Large’ portions. That is unless you are known to chef, then your portion is considerably larger. Note, the small flat piece of Yorkshire pudding, or at least I think that’s what it is supposed to be. Four, yes four sprouts, I actually asked our lovely waitress if she were sure that these were large portions. Note one slice of parsnip, one slice of sweet potato, that mushed up white stuff is cauliflower cheese and sloppy broccoli. I made my issues known, it’s simply not good enough to give preferential treatment to regulars, unfortunately we are local and were just out for a Sunday lunch. Like I said what we had was nice, and graciously and politely served, but if you know chef you will get larger, large portions. Don’t go here if you don’t know chef.

We popped in for Sunday Lunch after calling ahead and checking the pub is dog friendly (which it is) Partner was really happy to see Lamb on the roast menu and I went for Beef. Good pub lunch, full of flavour and reasonably priced. The extra gravy boat and side of cauliflower cheese was much appreciated. The waiting girls/bar staff were ever so welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Very personable service without feeling like they were fussing too much. 10/10 for the service alone. The bowl of water and plate of doggie treats was such a lovely touch. Thanks for a great lunch to all the staff. We will definitely return. You should advertise yourselves more as kicking ourselves for never thinking/hearing about this place before!
