We were staying in a little cottage a mile down the road for a week around Cumbria and this was the closest and ended up being one of the best little bolt holes of bliss in the Duddon Valley.
So welcoming, it became a local for my husband and I and if we ever move up there, we’ll be back in being local like a shot.
The food was extensive with a separate superb vegetarian and vegan menu. I have been struggling with a mutated smell and taste for two years and they were so accommodating when I asked for 3 chips with my curry, and 3 was what I had on the plate. Perfect, made us and all of them laugh.
I love the sincerity here and the comforting vibe. I actually feel quite bereft we don’t live next door it’s so good.
Full breakfast is far too meat orientated . As much as I like bacon sausage and black pudding I also like a whole tomato , mushrooms and beans . This came with only half a tomato and no mushroom or beans. Poor quality toast . Flat white fat too milky . Will not hurry back .
We have been to the picnic box on many occasions now, every time we visit Ambleside!
We normally buy jacket potatoes and the home-made fillings are amazing both in quantity and quality.
The overall price of the food makes this an extremely good value lunch.
We will continue to use this as as our go to lunch when in Ambleside
Visited with my wife. Hadn’t booked but that wasn’t a problem. Seated straight away by very friendly staff. Pizzas were cooked to perfection and were really tasty. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to come back again. Only downside is they don’t sell fries, but having said that, the pizza was enough on its own.
Have been going to Kendal for about a year now, as most people I have never noticed this charming cafe bar. Went in today and had wonderful service, fantastic food and the most wonderful surroundings. I chose to eat in the garden area with a few other customers and immediately relaxed , you have to check this fantastic venue out and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
Fantastic service, beautiful place and tasty food. Visited with my four year old, which could have been stressful but the staff made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The afternoon tea looked incredible and would have expected to pay a lot more for such quality. Very big thank you and we can’t wait to come back.
Superlative food. Eclectic and interesting decor in lounge/ bar areas. Restaurant itself over modern and over lit. Some staff didn’t seem very happy, but overall we enjoyed our evening.
We've just enjoyed the most delicious Sunday lunch at the Miners. We had booked a table, and were warmly greeted by the staff. The Sunday Roast was served as a carvery. The choice of meats was Ham, Beef or Turkey or all 3 if you wanted. The choice of vegetables was wonderful, all fresh proper veg and beautifully cooked. The choices included mushy peas and mashed potatoes, as well as the usual roasties, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower etc. Not forgetting Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, cranberry, horseradish and delicious gravy.
We couldn't manage a pudding!
The price was £14 for an adult. Fantastic price!
Highly recommended.
We will be back very soon.
Visited The Old King’s head during a weekend in the Lakes with a group of friends and we all enjoyed it.
A good wholesome menu, great service, nice drinks selection and our food was lovely! Majority of us had fish and chips, which was amazing! Massive with clean tasty beer batter and nice chips, we were all stuff. One of our friends was a bit disappointed with her burger from the specials as it was pretty small and basic served on a huge board…but enjoyed it nonetheless.
Visited the tea rooms after our lovely trip up on the steam train.
As much as I understand it is a tourist tea room, and they are only open for the tourist season, the prices are expensive.
We bought a latte, hot chocolate which was a normal one with no extras and 2 scones with jam/cream.
The prices are expensive it was £18 and I was quite shocked at the price.
I had high expectations after the previous reviews. We visited at 5pm on a Friday, which was happy hour and both ordered a lasagne and a salad after about 10 minutes this arrived, there was no bread or bechamel cheese sauce,I asked about the bread and was told that ,even though on the menu, you didn't get this on the happy hour which I wasn't told before and so didn't ask about the missing sauce, that some others had.I then had dessert and I wanted the Panna cotta which I was told they had,and then didnt, as I wasn't keen on chocolate or coffee,I had biscoffi cheesecake, which tasted ok but was very thick and heavy and stuck to the spoon,I mostly left this, which noone queried and I have never done this before.I was disappointed and not sure I will return.
After a stroll alongside the river and around the town my wife and I called at the café for lunch. The fish was delicious, large flakes of fish in a light crispy batter, the chips appeared to have been warmed up and were a little overcooked for our taste but weren’t inedible and the service by the lady was exemplary. Altogether a pleasant experience and we will call again when in the area.
We had lunch here and the food was outstanding- the menu is small but when the food is fab it’s fab! My husband had a Baguette with the best accompaniment salad he has ever had and I had the soup and a cheese scone which was lush! The coffee and cakes finished it off perfectly and the staff were brilliant
