We went on a Friday lunch time-it was busy which is always a good sign. My wife and French Toast which she really enjoyed, I had the burrito which was beautiful. The prices were reasonable, service was good. We will be back.

I travel down from Glasgow and this is a must go to during my stays. Plentiful servings, great quality, delicious and superb value. Add in lovely staff and it’s as perfect as can be.

My husband, son and I visit Zoo regularly. It is without doubt the best place to eat in Hull. The food is consistently outstanding and always fresh and full of flavour. The service is exceptional too. Thanks to all the staff at Zoo!

This is a fantastic little cafe with an amazing Bohemian vibe. We came to have lunch. We decided to sit outside as it was a lovely day. We ordered 2 golden milk latte which consist off honey and turmeric ( don't knock it till you've tried it, delicious!) I had poached egg on granary bread, 2 lovely thick slices with 3 perfectly poached eggs. My friend had half a pizza served with salad slaw and couscous. The pizza was amazing and had a homemade base. The service was a little slow but the friendly waitress noticed this and took our drinks off the bill.

I had the vegan Dahl, vegan chai latter, was amazing the best vegan Dahl I have ever had. Travelled from Australia to enjoy this place, great ambiance, service and amazing food. All totally freshly made.

Went to Zoo again, as always the staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is cracking. Now for the food absolutely outstanding. The plant based options are all fantastic and cakes wow, to die for. Best cafe in Hull and East Riding by far.

Some great choices here! A very different menu for me which offers some great choices in addition to regular favourites. A late breakfast of poached eggs on toast with mushrooms was lovely. The veggie patties are also very good. Efficient and friendly service. Lovely outdoor area.

Fantastic brunch here. Great veggie breakfast with a delicious lentil Pattie and other trimmings. My partner had Shakshuka, which was also delicious. Service was friendly and excellent and the cafe itself has a really positive vibe.

Just back from this hidden gem of a place, Zoo Cafe, Newland Avenue Hull. Visited with my Partner, first time for both of us and we will definitely be back. Hidden away down the side of shops you could easily not find it. We both had Zoo breakfast and the food was delicious, staff very friendly and service was fab. Serves the best food I have ever eaten. I had only discovered the cafe a few weeks ago but now visit on a regular basis and have become hooked on the plant based diet. The staff are all so warm and friendly: the atmosphere is very calm and authentic. Fully recommend :)

We came here as it had been highly recommended and it was our last meal before departing Hull. It’s tucked away (as everyone has said previously) from the hustle and bustle of Newland Ave. This makes it feel nice and secluded. We were offered a seat upstairs straight away, they don’t take bookings, but we came on a Sunday at prime brunch time (12ish).The decor is beautiful, and the wildlife scattered around make it a pleasure to look at whilst you wait for your food. I tried the shakshouka with the added avocado. My fiancé got the chilli burrito (or something along those lines), and the portions were huge! Really lovely flavours and reasonably priced. It is lovely to see an independent vegetarian/vegan restaurant with such fair prices and delicious dishes! We left very happy customers. The staff were amazing as well!

Excellent setting and menu a service a little bit chaotic but suits the cafe .. food was very tasty and presented lovely.. had the cheese burger (all veggie) and it was tasty washed down with a lemon San Pel... only concern is parking..there isn’t any .. park in neighbouring streets and walk-in ...I will return as it was a lovely experience

This was one of the first sit-down places we went to post-lockdown, so I was a little apprehensive.The food was excellent- filling, tasty, good portions and good value.The staff and the attitude towards Covid was a bit more patchy. One member of staff seemed very laid back generally, one somewhere in the middle and one very stressed, which meant a rather mixed atmosphere.We were seated at a table right by the till. The people paying weren't very careful about distancing and the staff made no effort to intervene to keep them at an appropriate distance from us, so in the end we asked to move to another table (which they were happy to let us as one was now free behind).The stressed member of staff was particularly unhelpful when I asked whether the 'fresh orange juice' she had brought us was indeed, fresh. As I thought I had seen her pouring it out of a supermarket bottle (which in itself didn't fit with the general feel of the place) I thought it was a valid question. She seemed to think it was an odd thing to ask, so after a brief discussion I asked her to take it away. After that she basically ignored us and didn't see if I wanted something else.Maybe the staff were struggling to cope with the current situation- which is totally understandable but no need to take it out on the customers, we are all in the same boat.

First visit to Zoo this year, the food is amazing my hubby loved the mushrooms on toast. The vibe and atmosphere was vibrant, the staff were so welcoming and friendly and we had a great time. We’ll be visiting again soon 🥦🥕🌽❤️

I love the Bohemian atmosphere of this place. The food is vegetarian or vegan and all home made. I love the huevos rancheros. My friends had the falafel and the cheeseburger, both were said to be delicious.

We have visited Zoo Cafe on numerous occasions because it is such a wonderful, welcoming and friendly place. It has always been for drinks though. However, this morning we went a bit earlier to have breakfast, i am so glad we did. My other half had the fruit toast with jam which she said was delicious. I had the homemade beans on toast. Totally scrummy. In fact its the best beans on toast i have had. The beans were, for a start plentiful, in this really thick and tangy sauce and they sat on top of two slices on their homemade bread ( toasted ). I really did enjoy it. We had a pot of tea each, which gave us over 2 cups apiece, and the whole lot came to under £10. Bargain.

I read the menu before deciding to visit the Zoo cafe and I honestly thought that the prices were too good to be true. I had the huevos rancheros and it was the best breakfast I’ve had in a while - almost like being back in Mexico! Whilst the service wasn’t 100% as there seemed to be some confusion and we had to ask for sugar, knives/forks etc, it was pleasant enough. I will definitely return to try more things on the menu as I had food envy looking at others’ dishes.

Delighted to be back at our favourite veggie cafe. A real hidden gem on Newland Avenue. Most food I've had here is fresh and delicious but the quiche has always been my ultimate favourite - was not disappointed!

We had a wonderful breakfast at Zoo on a rainy windy Thursday morning. The cosy bright atmosphere was welcome as well as the cheerful friendly staff who were fully knowledgeable on gluten free choices. I had the advices do tomatoes feta cheese on toast which was amazing and my gluten free friend had a full English breakfast! Will definitely return again and again and again!!!!

Have just eaten here as a family group of four. I struggled to choose what to have because everything on the menu sounded so attractive. We all chose something different and I could happily have eaten anyone's choice. The food was so colourful and completely delicious, I wished I lived nearer - I would visit often. There's a laid back vibe to the place, with charming and friendly staff. If you enjoy vegetarian food, prepared with love, then try it here, you will not be disappointed.

Been here a couple of times, and Ive been very impressed. The cakes are lovely, as well as the hummus flat bread & roasted veg bowl. Very friendly and they sometimes have live music which is great. Can’t wait to go back 🍰

ok...the zoo cafe hull, veggie and vegan. visited here recently, my wife recommended it after visiting in past. parking can be an issue so we parked up in nearby pearson park. no parking fees and easy walking distance of cafe. please be advised there are lots of signs up warning of theft from vehicles, its common sense make sure all valuables are out of sight. the walk to cafe is about 5 mins. newland avenue is a very diverse multicultural area full of takeaways, charity shops etc. zoo cafe seems to do its best to hide, hidden away down an alley off main st. upon entering first impressions were good, busy even at 11.20 always a good sign, friendly proffesional staff, place is clean. there seems to be no paper menus on tables but behind counter is a large wall menu, perhaps not ideal?. i ordered a cheese burger my wife had dhal sweet potato curry. upstairs we went and waited for our meal. 15 mins later it arrived and wow! what a cheeseburger, the best veggie burger ive ever tasted, my wifes curry was also excellent, very good quality and full of flavour, no wonder this place gets good reviews. my only gripe apart from menus on tables was the fact that burger served rather strangely with crisps, the crisps being a little soft. prices were reasonable, not expensive. there are 2 toilet cubicles and baby change facilities upstairs everything spotless clean. all in all i would highly recommend zoo cafe, if your thinking of becoming a vegetarian this is the best place to start. final thought.....diamond in the rough.

A+++ Lovely experience. Been a while since I have been it's even better than it was it before? Is this possible. Staff extra friendly, atmosphere was brilliant. The whole looks of the place has a real wow factor! It is clear they take great pride in this aspect of the guest experience. ACE! to see the smokey tofu ciabatta on the main menu now! It was a really mmmmmmmmm moment! and the apple crumble with custard al home made and really delicious! My best visit yet! Keep it top folks! Big love xxx

We loved our visit to Zoo! Was super busy when we arrived across lunch on a Saturday but got a table upstairs and was told food would be around a 40 minute wait. Came sooner than that and everythunt was delicious! Lovely flavours and the cakes looked very tempting too. Very nice relaxing chilled atmosphere and decor. Will definitely return to try more off the menu and some cake!

We pop over to Hull occasionally and as Blondes was shut and Purple Robot no longer looked for somewhere else to grab a bite to eat. So pleased we did! What a lovely little place. Good selection of food available, really great value, this place will definitely be on our list of places to revisit. We sat downstairs but I popped upstairs to use the bathroom and wow, it's so nice! Comfy chairs and I lovely relaxed vibe I could happily sit here all day! Cannot recommend highly enough.

Visited yesterday, meeting family. It has a lovely atmosphere, really chilled. Menu is amazing. I had mushrooms on toast and my teenagers had French toast and cheesy nachos. Food was so good. Service was great with really friendly staff. We will definitely be going back. Thank you

We celebrated my friends baby shower there and it was fabulous. The decorations are so cute and the staff is so lovely. They prepared a vegan option for me and I really appreciated it. The cakes were all vegan and the coffee one is to die for.

Russ catered for my Dad’s 70th birthday. The food was simply out of this world. Everything was so delicious. His menu is innovative and varied. The desserts were To die for. Very generous portions. None of us are vegetarian, we chose to have Russ cater for us on his reputation and recommendation. Thank you for making our celebration such a success.

This is a gem in Hull. We have visited many times and are always impressed by the taste, quality and quantity of the food. Today we took a friend visiting us from London and he was suitably impressed. The soup was delicious and filling, my favourite always, the Moroccan pasty and the vegetable dishes were equally tasty. We are never disappointed!

Having only just moved to hull in the past week we were excited to try somewhere new and well recommended and we were not disappointed! Great customer service, felt very homely, mouthwatering food (with very healthy portion sizes), all for an affordable price.

The Zoo is my favourite place for lunch serving homemade vegetarian and vegan specials which always offer something a little different. Today's Asparagus Quiche was wonderful. Cafe has a beautiful garden and is very family-friendly.

Oh my actual!! I travelled Central America for 6 months and ate this whenever it was available and today, for the first time since I came back 12 years ago I felt like I was right back there. It was DELICIOUS!! Cheesy, crunchy, spicy amazingness with a wonderful little salad on the side and the portion size was huge. The salad wasn’t your average lettuce, tomato and cucumber either. It had barley, home made coleslaw and tiny little peas in it too. A berry smoothie and a gorgeous oat milk latte made with Hull’s River City Coffee made it the best meal I’ve had in years. The courtyard is beautiful and covered with flowers and the extremely busy people who work there are absolutely lovely. This is a definite must whether you are a veggie or not. Yum, yum, yum, yum, YUM

I have to be honest, I didn’t know about this place before today, I do now. It’s lovely. We just popped to the craft shop next door and looked across. The food smelt incredible and the surroundings were so relaxed and well kept. We decided to stop for a brew. We had a large latte and a breakfast tea. The latte was really nice coffee and the tea was made with leaves in a pot so two and a half cups in it. Both were really nice and total only £4. The place is so lovely and off the beaten track for a busy avenue. We will be back and will have food next time too.

Although I’m not a veggie or a vegan myself, me and some friends tried this cafe for our friend who is vegan. The food was lovely, and the portions were big.

Excellent food and customer service. I fell in love with Zoo as soon as I was introduced to it a year ago (Thanks hubby! xx). All cuisines done wonderfully and if you make it for an early brunch, you'll be lucky enough to try their ever changing specials!

We visited this vegan and gluten free cafe on a sunny day and sat in the little court yard . It felt like you were on holiday . . The staff were very helpful smiley and pleasant.

Whilst walking down Newland Ave in Hull we heard a noise down a tenfoot, it sounded good so we investigated - so glad we did! A delightful cafe awaited us where we decided to have lunch, I'm not vegetarian but the cafe is, I believe I could be converted - the food was amazing!! The atmosphere was amazing! Will recommend and deffinatly return! 100/100

After hearing lots about this place we decided to try it out. Definitely worth the visit! We aren’t veggie but decided to give it a try anyhow and were very happy! Will definitely come again. Very pleasant outside seating area. Nice little tucked away cafe. Worth a visit for sure. Had the French toast, excellent quality. Topped with berries, syrup and icing sugar. Easily as good as I’d get back home in America. Very good value for money and portion sizes as well.

Had lunch yesterday at the Zoo cafe, mushrooms on toast with a little topping of cheese, it was lovely, my partner she had rare bait which looked nice, and she said that it was very good indeed. I would recommend anyone in Hull or travelling here to sample this little cafe

Really no need to write a review for this place as everyone else has said but I love it so much it would seem disloyal not tell everyone. It’s great, tasty flavoursome food and a lovely relaxing atmosphere. Good for young children with some toys and a relaxed atmosphere.

Although not vegetarian, I had wanted to give Zoo Cafe a try for some time. Situated down a short ten-foot off Newland Avenue, Zoo is a quiet, relaxing, quirky and welcoming haven. The staff were friendly and everything I had, from the smoothie to the crushed avocado with roast tomatoes was very nice. I look forward to returning.

We love Zoo and eat there around once s week. The food is fresh, beautifully cooked, tasty with a wide choice. As this cafe is vegetarian with many vegan or adaptable to vegan items on the menu it is really healthy too but with all the great taste. The team are welcoming and great at what they do. The cafe is comfortable and nicely decorated with upcycled items and lots of greenery. It is cosy and warm in winter while in the nicer weather you can also sit in the courtyard garden with lots of colourful planting. The upstairs also has comfy seating and doors which open with a Juliet style balcony. Great value for money. Clean toilets. Fab food.

Been loads of times now, I firmly believe that this cafe cannot be topped by any other in Hull. The food is delicious, the staff are fantastic and the cafe is ace. Great value for money and great atmosphere.

Had a delicious bowl of chilli nachos yesterday with strong smooth black coffee. I'm a bit of a nachos nerd, so let me go into them here. The chilli beans had a good amount of heat and were obviously made from scratch and had a real depth of flavour. The melted cheese was generous and good quality cheese. The jalapenos were hot! The corn chips were crisp. There was creme fraiche and fresh coriander on top (could have had a tad more creme fraiche) and it was a really generous serve. It was excellently priced too. If I didn't live on the other side of the world I would be back often!

Been using zoo for a number of years now, it always does very good coffee, today as usual it was full but we where lucky enough to get a seat, we had coffee and a scone which was very nice as well, l would recommend this place to anyone.

I tried here for the first time today, and I will be returning! Firstly, I am not a veggie, but please don't be put off by the fact it is a vegetarian cafe because I didn't miss meat one bit! They have a wonderful variety to choose from - a few Mexican dishes, pizza, paninis, breakfast; they cater to all moods. I love the fact that it's an open kitchen and when you glimpse behind the counter you can see fresh produce, herbs, ingredients etc. so you know that everything is fresh. Inside is busy, but it doesn't feel cramped. I had an americano (lovely strong coffee) with the shakshuka eggs - delicious. My friend had a chai latte with the sweetcorn fritters. It is very reasonably priced and the portions were definitely on the large side, so don't be worried you'll leave hungry due to lack of meat! Just a suggestion but I think it would be more convenient for customers to have menus, rather than the boards, just so people can peruse the menu more easily rather than taking photos whilst people are trying to enjoy their food. Fabulous cafe, I will return soon.

We have been going to Zoo Cafe for a few weeks. The food is fresh and delicious. I always have soup which delicious and filling. I cannot have enough of it. The prices are surprisingly low and I would be happy to pay more. Highly recommended vegetarian restaurant in Hull.

Had heard about Zoo from some friends who raved about it and I wasn't disappointed. Was a really friendly, busy and buzzy place. Lots of great, healthy vegetarian food and good service. Went on a Saturday afternoon and the place was pretty full of families, students and a mixture of people and didn't wait long for food. Definitely be making this a regular visit.

Remembered this cafe from years ago and wondered if it was still open for a late lunch and went to have a look. It was heaving, struggled to find a table but so pleased that we waited as the food was amazing. I had a burrito and my husband had the falafel burger, both were superb, came with lots of different salads. Husband managed to squeeze in a slice of cake and an extra coffee!. Amazing food and great value, will not be leaving it so long till we visit again

Excellent vegetarian cafe. Food is never disappointing. Excellent service and very friendly staff. Love this place and would highly recommend to anyone - doesn't matter if you vegetarian or not, you will eat well in this place. Very generous portions and affordable prices. Love it

My friend first brought me to this lovely care, he is now enjoying food without meat. I am on a plant food diet, and I have to say the food here is outstanding, the staff lovely, the place is lovely and great atmosphere. Totally recommend this place, great food experience.

My daughter is a vegetarian and persuaded me (not a vegetarian) to give Zoo cafe on Newland a try. It is tucked away down an alley in what looks like an old coach house. The decor is different chairs at big wooden tables, painted brick walls and lots of plants and art - very comfy and warm. We both had the bean burger which comes with a great variety of salad items all home-made, coleslaw, beetroot salad, leaves in a dressing, tortilla chips and a mixed grain. As a non veggie I really enjoyed it and didnt miss the meat. Lovely fresh coffee and cakes. Would highly recommend a visit.

I like to visit this cafe every sunday. They do the most amazing wholesome food for a great price. The atmosphere here is so lovely i could stay for hours. Staff are super friendly.

Popped into Zoo Cafe, for brunch with my sister, had a fabulous experience as per usual. Staff, welcoming, food cooked to perfection, warm, cosy and obliging atmosphere in this lovely place give rise to a relaxing time needed.
