My friend and I visited today - our first time since it opened again. Lovely welcome and we were shown to a table in the courtyard. Tables are nicely spaced and a blanket is provided for each guest. We were unable to book beforehand but at around 11, it was possible to get a table. The menu was not limited which was great to see - it was identical to before Covid. Each table is limited to a maximum of 1 hour but I get the impression that if there is not a queue, that they will be flexible with this. We were so pleased to be back at Meadow Hill for lunch and everything about our visit was perfect.

Met a friend here for lunch. Advisable to book ahead. The tables are extremely well spaced apart and also there are tasteful clear screens between the tables. It is all very well designed in this Covid time. We certainly felt exceptionally safe. The food was super (tart of the day and salad) and lovely large pots of tea. Looking forward to returning.

Me and my Husband have been eating at Meadow Hill for a couple of years, (I'm veggie & he's a carnivore) I can honestly say we have never been disappointed, the food is just fantastic, you can tell the owners and staff really care about the food and service they offer, the food on the regular menu is soooo good but they also have specials which are always interesting, varied and gorgeous! the service is perfect and we have always been made to feel looked after and valued as customers, we absolutely adore it here..........oh and don't even get me started on the cakes!!! I would happily eat at Meadow Hill every day!

I went to this cafe last week around quarter to two and asked if it was okay if I just had a coffee while I was doing some work on my laptop. The woman said it was fine and took my details. She gave me a menu and was friendly enough but wasn't very smiley. I ordered a latte and carried on with my work. The woman came to give me my coffee but told me that they would be closing at 2:30 that day because it was so hot. The place usually closes at 3! Why couldn't they have told me that before I ordered my drink? If I had known they were closing early I would have gone somewhere else. I spent the whole time feeling very concerned about the time. At about 2:25 I packed everything away and stood up to pay. The two women, who had ordered cake, asked another member of staff if they had to leave but were told that they could stay and they want everyone out by 3. Why was I told differently? I'm not from around here and just wanted a nice place to sit while I did my work but was made to feel very rushed and uncomfortable. I won't be returning but I doubt they will care, as they didn't seem very happy to have me as their customer anyway.

I called to order (the order wasn’t straight forward) and they were brilliant. Two of afternoon teas were gluten free and they packaged them separately to avoid cross-contamination. We couldn’t believe how much food we got for our money, it was such good value. Would 100% recommend them to others, they even helped us carry everything to the car. Thanks so much Meadow Hill!

My partner and I visited this little cafe, having enjoyed it a while ago. We ordered coffee and toast for myself, which came quite promptly. One piece of toast was burnt black, the other hardly toasted at all. I was actually surprised that they would serve it up. The little jam pot that came with it was half empty ( which they did apologise for before changing ) I ate one half of the one of the slices, and left the rest. As we sat finishing my coffee a member of staff asked the table next to us if everything was ok with her food, never came to our table to ask, even though it was obviously not as 3/4 of black toast remained uneaten. Coffee was nice and staff were friendly. But I wont waste my money with another visit.

We visited Meadow Hill with high hopes, but sadly it didn't live up to expectations due to one major aspect - the bacon was bad. We ordered poached eggs on toast with extra bacon (£2.40 for 2 rashers) and a bacon butty (which turned out to actually be a sandwich). The fat on the bacon was white and gelatinous - completely inedible, meaning that you had to dissect the sandwich to remove it. It was the type of bacon that they serve out of vans by the side of the road. Good bacon should be crispy, with the fat round the edges cooked so that it is brown. Good bacon should have a nice taste - not overly salty and acidic. This was not good bacon. This was bad bacon. It doesn't matter if you say on the menu that it's "local bacon," it doesn't mean that it's quality meat. After all, Tesco is local, it's just up the road. Our breakfast cost £15.50 in total, including 2 glasses of orange juice. We could have bought 4 packets of really good, organic, quality bacon for this. The only saving grace to the meal was that the staff were lovely.

Coffee here is always good. Ate here for the first time a couple of weeks back and was a bit underwhelmed with the cooked breakfast to be honest.'Poached' eggs were overdone and were either microwaved or cooked in those special pans that your gran always had. Certainly not in water (poached).Sausages were actually chipolatas. The deli counter looks good and the service is great, so maybe just steer clear of the cooked stuff.

I had booked a table for four a couple of weeks ago, for my sisters 50th birthday. When we arrived there was 1 table for 4 reserved for the exact same time. We asked the member of staff if that was ours...she miraculously knew that it wasn't, even though she hadn't even asked our name. She was very abrupt and told us there were no tables. I said I had booked, she said someone had forgotten to put it in the book. I was there when the assistant put it in the book. She showed me the book...my name was the first booking of the day. She then offered us the table...by this time and with her abrupt attitude...my sister wanted to leave. Very upsetting as it was a lunch for a big birthday. We have had numerous lunches in there. Will not be returning. Bring back Scrumptious!

There were a few other tables at the time we were there. The service I'm afraid to say is very low. The lady doesn't seem to either enjoy what she is doing or really doesn't have the personality to work in this type of sector. We ordered something light as just wanted a snack, this consisted of a coffee, cream tea and sausage roll with a salad garnish. It seemed that what we ordered wasn't sufficient enoughThe table we were at was dirty, the floor was dirty and the CUTTLERY was water stained and coffee stained on the spoon. The cream tea was quite poor, you would expect clotted cream, not whipped with a scone. My partners coffee wasn't very strong and you could see the milk had been reheated (maybe more than once) from the look of the froth. The sausage roll wasn't all that either.I must say that we try to support our locals and having tried a few places in dunmow, we feel some stand above the rest. I have read the reviews on Zoe's and from my own experience and what I have read, I really think that service needs to be addressed and customers need to feel welcome asit is such an important aspect of a business.I am sorry to say that I don't think we will be returning.

Never expected such a treat. Restful, modern and tasteful decor with superb food. The artichoke quiche was a revelation. Beautiful light crispy pastry filled with delicious subtle vegetables, this was in a different league from the heavy tasteless specimens of quiche usually found. Excellent teas and coffees; friendly and efficient service - a perfect (and very rare) example of the perfect restful start to a journey. So refreshing to find such quality so near an airport. Meet up for a early lunch time business chat and walking along Dunmow high street and we go into Zoe's. Nice and clean upon entrance with a small handful of people at tables. Order our hot drinks, which were automatically believed to be take-away. Once we clear up that we actually want a table and not to bother with changing cups; things settle into a nice hot drinks tempo. I order a sausage roll (mainly because it is so freakishly big!!) and I'm excited to sink my teeth into it. The hot drink I had was a rather normal black coffee; which was nice and didn't have any form of "bitty" residue at the bottom of the cup. The sausage roll (plus additional garnish) arrived and I stopped paying attention to the conversation I was in as it was delicious. The beetroot coleslaw was a fantastic side to go with the extraordinarily meaty sausage roll. Perfect eating temperature so I didn't burn the roof of my mouth to shards. The service is quite slow. The place is very clean. The food is good but overpriced and the coffee is too small! Five pound for a bacon sarnie seems a lot to me - but the food was good just if you charge premium then increase portion sizes especially drinks - staff were excellent

Great little cafe to have lunch. We really enjoyed our farmhouse platter which they obligingly added some extras too. Zoe's friendly and efficient manner couldn't be faulted. Choice of deli foods and jams available for purchase was good too.

Very quaint little cafe that serves fresh produce such as sandwiches and coleslaw, homemade sausage rolls and pork pies. Also do a range of cheeses and tea and coffee. All finished off with a selection of cakes !I have always found it nice and pleasant in this cafe. There is also numerous cheeses and sauces you can take away with you from the little delicatessen area of the cafe,

We had several hours before our plane departed so decided to hang out in a town near the airport instead of at the airport. We stopped here & had vegetable soup, tea, scones with jam/butter/clotted cream, & coffee. Everything was fine. Atmosphere was cozy. The dishes had big polka dots.

Had tea and coffee with cakes. bench seat with cushions little uncomfortable and tea pot was either too cold to fill or filled long before partners coffe was made so before i'd finished the pot it was cold but partners coffee was too hot to drink until finished cake. Other then that food and drink tasted good and i would go back.

I went here on a mid week day at about 11.30 (on my own) for a quick coffee whilst waiting for my car to be serviced. When I arrived the cafe was only half full but I still got ignored for a good ten minutes. 2 different waitresses came in and delivered food and drink to nearby tables and cleared tables but I still seemed to be invisible until I asked to be served. There was an apology but it did seem a bit like I was the one in the wrong. There were no menus on any of the tables so I couldn't even look whilst I was waiting. Everything was served quickly but when I left and asked for my bill the waitress decided to give me the bill for the nearby table of 5 people rather than just one. I'm not sure if I heard an apology when I said this wasn't right but either way she was a bit surly and miserable. This is a convenient place for me to nip into when in the town but I'm afraid I don't think I will be going again.

Good soup and sandwiches. Even better homemade cakes and scones! Served by friendly staff, Zoe's is a welcome addition to a crowded cafe scene in Dunmow.Recommended.

Staff very friendly and attentive as soon as I arrived. Offered me a drink while I waited. Bright and sunny venue. Service very quick and quiche, salad and coleslaw presented very attractively on a long plate. Several customers arriving who had obviously visited before and made very welcome. A welcome addition to the Dunmow High Street.

There is a lot of competition for tea rooms in Great Dunmow but this one puts up a good fight. Lovely staff, fab scream scones but maybe could be a little more cosey inside. Definitely worth a try.

I visited this coffee shop today and I have never known service anywhere as bad as here!!The waitress that served myself,my mum and my daughter was incredibly rude, blunt and unfriendly. The food was average at best and the Victoria sandwich cake was served with over-ripe strawberries which had a very unpleasant taste.I will never return here,as the waitress quite frankly ruined our day!My advice is to walk straight past it!!!

This is a great little Deli come coffee shop. The service was very friendly and swift. The food is good and very reasonably priced. The deli counter offers some tempting take out foods.Definitely one to stop off at again when in the west of the County.

Never been here before, so thought we'd give it a go. The menu's were a bit scruffy and the choices, a bit ordinary, nothing stood out for me. My friend had the Victoria sponge which he said was very rich, I had a croissant with jam. The croissant was fine, but the thing which surprised me was the jam pot. It purported to be a Wilkins jam, but the seal on the lid was broken and frankly, they could have just put in an alternative town. It was ok, but not special. Think there a better places in town.

Visited Zoe's for the first time today with my daughter. The restaurant was spacious and light and created a lovely warm environment. We just had tea and coffee but the service was prompt and the staff warm and welcoming. A pot of Earl Grey and a mug of coffee; a mere £4.00 - great value. We will be returning.

Popped in here for a cup of tea and the place is lovely, spacious and the staff are efficient and welcoming. They serve all types of coffee, plenty homemade cakes, scones, cheeses and savoury bites. The tea came in a pretty dotty teapot with matching teacups, which they actually sold too. The have an ice cream parlour too. The only downfall was there was only one loo and we had queue for it even though it wasn't that busy in there. You can sit at a table if you are eating or on arm chairs that have a nest of tables so there is room for your teapot, cups and food.

We thought we would try Zoes for a change as we had time to spare prior to an appointment in town. The place was empty when we entered at around 11.45. Three staff having a meeting behind the counter and no welcome was forthcoming. Eventually we got served by a surely lady who really made us feel like we were in the way.Drinks took forever to arrive and eventually the food turned up. It was over all ok - nothing more. We paid our bill and left.Definitely will not return - overpriced food and dreadful service. There is loads of choice in Dunmow now and I doubt that Zoes will be around much longer. It is really no surprise that the place was empty. Do yourself a favour and give your custom to other eateries in the High Street.

First time in great Dunmow last Monday ... and sort of peckishly hungry after a long drive. There's quite a choice of sandwich bars in the High Street, but nowhere that had seating or atmosphere - until I discovered Zoe's.What a lovely surprise: spacious, lovely quality furniture and it just smelt great as soon as you walked in. Everything's home-made and/or prepared on site - so piping hot carrot and coriander soup and thick crumbly brown bread for the goat's cheese sandwich with fig relish .... and one of the best cups of proper coffee afterwards! More to the point, nothing was too much trouble and Zoe and her team are attentive and totally concerned with giving you exactly what you want. To cap it all, it's really good value for money.Great place - and, yes, I went back on Tuesday too!! By the way - this, too, is an honest review (as stated by a previous reviewer who was also concerned at some rather long-winded negative reviews earlier in the year) - I simply do not identify with any of the protracted blow-by-blow negative reviews - this is a really warm and friendly place with excellent food. Maybe some customers need to understand the interactive value of walking in with a smile on their faces (or without a vested interest perhaps?) !! Thanks Zoe - spot on!
