Best Restaurant, I've been to in Cardiff, lovely food and very kind staff. Thoroughly recommended.

The service was alright, budget friendly ate able food. Leak of traditional flavours, the ShangHi dumpling was a bit questionable(meat doesn’t taste like meat?)

We really like this place. Food very tasty. Service good. The business is never very busy. The meat spring rolls are awesome. In fact all the food is good. Reccomended

Food was dry and tasteless. Worst fried rice and chow mein I've had, very disappointed after seeing how positive the reviews usually are. Makes me think it must have been reheated food for it to be so dry. I had to add my own seasoning and sauce to make it edible. Did give free prawn crackers which was nice!

Best Chinese Restaurant in Cardiff. Been to Hong Kong, been to China this place ranks equivalent to traditional mega city food outlets. Price is exceptional, and quality is incredible. The more people you go with, the cheaper it turns out and we’ve had a banquet numerous times in big groups. Been here with my girlfriend from Hong Kong, Malaysian and Romania friends, they even said it was the best meal they’ve ever had. Get there ASAP for dim sum, you won’t regret it!

Great food, friendly service in a comfortable environment. My wife is Chinese and I have spent a lot of time in China and I can honestly say the taste is authentic unlike many UK restaurants where food is anglicised. We will definitely come again next time we are in Cardiff.

Ordered takeout last minute 24/2/24,30 min wait,but restaurant food looked smelt delicious,was looking forward to mine Got home,chicken chow mein okay,duck mushrooms and bamboo shoots delicious but not a lot of duck.chicken balls bit chewy,sweet n sour sauce watery and vinegery.Chips went straight into food bin,tasteless rewarmed not nice at all, Bearing in mind didn't mind paying restaurant prices but expected better.quality food.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon with my family. We love dimsum and wanted to compare with Happy Gathering in Canton. Food was decent along with service though portion size for rice noodles with shredded duck was a bit on the small side (shared between 3 people). Not much of an atmosphere (no music) just the noise of other people in the restaurant. Price was ok along with the food (could be better). Highchair was also provided. Overall is just OK, would come again but wouldn’t be my first choice of restaurant.

The service was good and the venue was cute. You get good portions for the price too. However the food was really disappointing. I had the chefs special. The best way I can describe it is, imagine the white ish sauce from a Chicken pie but remove the taste and add too much garlic. The noodles tasted like nothing as well. I always feel bad giving a bad review however I can't bring myself to lie. I'd definitely give this place a skip or just go for a more traditional dish like fried rice.

Love this place. Been a few tiimes now, but not for a few years and I'm so glad it survived all the lockdowns. Came in without a booking and quite late, but they were happy to accomodate us. I had General Tso's Chicken, which is not that easy to find in the UK - I know it's not exactly authentic Chinese, but I love it, especially when it's cooked as well as this one....real fiery kick, lovely crunchy chicken and a beautiful sweet sticky sauce. All extremely reasonably priced as well.

I just came from there. The food was amazing. The staff very lovely. I even tried one of the coconut tarts -delicious. You would be missing if you don't try it out.

First time trying this Chinese and we really enjoyed it! Easy to order ahead collect through the website, great value for money and everything we ordered was super yummy. We definitely recommend the pork ribs in honey!

My favourite takeaway place. You'd think it's a standard Chinese but no, it's a secret Malaysian place! So the food is more authentic, higher quality, better ingredients and tasty. The price is also excellent value. I'd highly recommend it if you're looking to eat with others at home and need a range of well-priced and speedily prepared food.

Calming environment, lovely staff and food, great selection for a good price, open till a good time also! Plus the axolotls are soo cute!!!

Never had a bad experience with Zi’s Great customer service Excellent experience with takeaway and dining in. (Both equally as good) Recently tried a different Chinese just for something new, but never again. Zi’s cafe is the best for me and my girlfriend in Cathays. Been loving their food for 4 years now. 10/10 would recommend.

Met an old friend. First time trying Japanese (I know ). Tasty vegetarian hot and sour soup- maybe too chilly for me. But lots of flavour, lovely and hot for this cold weather. First time having tofu!! Haha I loved it and completely finished the bowl! Then had deep fried aubergine dish which was amazing. I am so going to try to recreate this at home! With veg fried rice. They had lots of people ordering take away by the looks of it. Saw just eat and deliveroo drivers coming in and out. But apart from us no one else in the restaurant. But sat do see as the food was tasty. But fine for me and my friend to have a good catch up. Service was wonderful, we had jasmine tea, because we were there chatting so long the waitress came and refilled with hot water again - I mean it was just what was needed in the evening on a cold winter's day! I will definitely come again!

It's simply the very best. We keep a visit to Zi's as a treat. Always delicious and kind service.

I’m pretty sure the amount of chillies in my kung po could be classed as attempted murder. Other than that it was alright. Took an hour and ten minutes to deliver on a Monday 🤷🏻‍♂️. Chicken balls were harrrrrd too.

Some amazing authentic food along the British favourites

I’d say hands down best Authentic Chinese food around. Huge selection of dishes. A particular favourite is the Chicken with leak and chilli, a must try. Staff are always welcoming and friendly. I travel about 15 miles for a takeaway, it’s that good. I won’t go anywhere else. If you haven’t eaten in or had a takeaway from here then your missing out.

Just finished a takeaway from there and by far the best Chinese food I’ve had. The chicken and beef were so tender. Flavours were massive. Would definitely reccomend!

Best place for Chinese food in Cardiff. In an unassuming part of the city popular with students. Very large portions for the price and excellent food, some dishes that are on most Chinese menus and some specials I've only seen there.

For four years (and counting now), Zi’s has been my favourite Chinese place in the entirety of Cardiff (and then some!). A must try is their chicken with dried chilli and leeks. I love this place!!!

Exceptional food, by far the best Chinese food I have tasted, a family favourite. We would not go anywhere else for Chinese cuisine. The food is authentic and the service fantastic. The dishes are light and tasty. The restaurant owner always has the utmost time for you. I would recommend sitting in as opposed to a takeaway for the full dining experience.

I tried several vegan and gluten free dishes and found most to be ok. The bean curd dish was not to my taste at all. The fried rice tasted very good!

Es un poco más complicado comprarlo solo para usted, pero resulta barato cuando se comparte o si se reparte en dos comidas. Me encanta la berenjena frita, el requesón en salsa de frijoles negros, etc. Nunca tuve un plato que no me gustara aquí, para comer o para llevar. Tenga en cuenta que el arroz debe pedirse por separado, pero las porciones son generosas. If I want food that reminds me of my parents cooking then I head to Zi's. My parents are chefs from Hong Kong and Zi's make some of the most delicious Chinese foods I've ever had, totally comparable to home cooking. It's a regular of mine and I eat their frequently with friends and family.

I went with Chinese friends who ordered the food, and they ordered a very nice aubergine dish. The people serving were friendly.

First in the cafe at lunchtime, we were a family of four and shared one of the set dinners. All the food was delicious. We will certainly go again!

We are a family of three with one of us being a vegetarian. Lots is authentic dishes on the menu and a nice selection for vegetarians. We all were very satisfied after our meal. Servers were all very friendly.

Quick service as it only served the 3 of us in there late night. Food was ok, reasonably priced @ £52 for 3 mains, 4 sides & drinks. Didn't like the dry & cut up into small pieces of rib which were too dry & chewy for the most part. The rest of the dishes were ok but not especially tasty in any way, duck a bit fatty. It's very cafe style in there not like many chinese places. Parking on the street easy though. Not worth searching for i'd suggest.

I’ve lived locally for 3 years now and have tried many Chinese eateries, but Zi’s cafe is the best one! The food here is very authentic. The prices are decent and the portions are large. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. There’s also a 10% discount for students with a valid student card which is an added bonus!

We had food delivered from Zi's Cafe tonight. Every member of the family declared it the best meal all year. Excellent Service, delivered exactly when they promised and my eldest son has declared they have 'banging chicken'...which I believe means very good.

The food is amazing. They provide a lovely atmosphere to be around your friends. The staff are very nice and take your order quickly and the food arrives quickly as well. It is well priced. If you are ever in Cardiff and fancy some chinese food. This is the place to go!

10 of us (including 2 young children), went to Zi's for my wife's birthday. We had a wide range of dishes and very little was left over at the end of the meal. Food was excellent with quite large portions. None of the dishes were greasy, chips were crisp and rice was fluffy. Everyone agreed that this was one of the best Chinese meals we've had for a while. If there was one downside it was slow service initially though, once the food started to arrive, the meal flowed well.

Nice Chinese restaurant. Good food, significant portions, nothing special about the place or it's location, and the staff was amicable. Unfortunately, they accept only cash. Therefore we had to rush for an ATM cash machine after a great and massive dinner.

Having lived in both China and Singapore I found the food to be pretty authentic, and prices very reasonable. Service was good. Recommend Zi’s. One or two dishes were a little too salty (MSG?) for me.

I ordered a takeaway from here using just eat. I ordered the set meal for two and a house chow mein. Firstly it was cold which I understand is difficult to control as it was a takeaway, but that wasn’t the main problem. The special chow mein had some sort of slimey chicken covering it which wasn’t very nice. The salt and pepper ribs were salty and tough and the vegetable dish that came with it was covered in the same slime the chicken was covered in. Overall very poor.

Very nice food, the duck meal was flavoursome as was the chilli chicken. The egg fried rice was a little disappointing. The prawn crackers are huge!

My family and I always visit Zi's Cafe whenever we are in Cardiff. Although it is not a very big place nevertheless its ambience, service and food rival that of any other larger ones in Cardiff. Do drop by to find out first hand.

This was a surprise having scoured Cardiff for Chinese restaurants, only to be disappointed in the past. The staff were delightful and efficient, and the choice of food we chose delicious. The hot and spicy soup certainly had a kick! Will definitely eat here again.

It was so cold you need to understand being cold and eating with your coat on is not a great experience

My mate was visiting me from Spain and we tried the place on Thursday evening. We looked at the menu before we left my house and decided on what we would eat and drink. The mistake we made was to order too much, as the portions were much larger than we expected. Although quite busy, we were served reasonably quickly. Being from Cardiff, we soon started chatting to the Malaysian ladies sat next to us. I think it's that sort of restaurant. Unpretentious and simple food. A nice experience and we'll definitely go there again.

We went to Zi's as we were dropping off a son back to Uni, mainly because of the reviews on Tripadvisor, We were not disappointed, it was very quiet (however those eating were all chinese) - presumably because it was lunchtime plus many students not back yet. The decor is simple, not a huge selection of drinks but that didn't matter, it was the food we were there for. However, the menu was pretty extensive with some dishes I'd not heard of. The waiter was lovely, very friendly and helpful. We ordered and the service was quicker than I'd ever received before, all food was out and on the table within 10 minutes - a record. The waiter didn't think we'd get through it all but with 2 large sons that was a no brainer. The food was excellent, generous portions, hot and delicious. We ordered the seafood hor fun - really good - don't be put off by the rather odd appearance when it comes - that's just the egg sauce on top. I was concerned that there might be msg but clearly there wasn't as I didn't get my typical migraine after eating it. Will definitely be coming again. Very reasonably priced plus a 10% student discount. the whole meal with drinks, rice and 4 choices was under £50. 1 thing to remember is it is CASH only so make sure you have enough - although there is a Sainsbury's cash point down the road.

I'm not a fan of Chinese food in the UK, but as they go this one is pretty good. There are good non stereotypical options for the more adventurous, namely the honey soy duck.

Friday night me and the wife at zis a table of 2 had to wait near 2 hour for our mains to arrive at this point im feeling full from hunger.plus side the soup was good

We tried Zi's this evening after our local place closed due to the owner retiring. We used the hungry horse app to order - easy to use app and delivery time ended up being 10mins after the estimated 45min wait. No problem so far.Price: the same order at Zi's is approximately £7 more expensive than our local place but given the reviews I assumed it would be worth it. It wasn't.In particular, the Egg fried rice was more like boiled rice with a few peas thrown in compared to what I'd recognise as egg fried rice.Sweet and sour chicken: the chicken was borderline burnt on the outside. The sauce seemed very watery and tasteless in my opinionCrispy chilli beef was more like beef jerky with almost no chilli sauce.Most of the food ended up in the bin (and I'm no fussy eater).Certainly not worth the £30 cost (included a delivery charge and a tip).Will not use them again.

I got a mixed meat curry and I really liked it. It was really big, i was so full when I finished! Giving the fact I had rice included, this meal was super worth it, and really tasty! The meat was tender and everything was seasoned well. If you get a plate of meat and rice with it, it would be around 10 pounds and it's hard for one person to finish everything. The "side" of rice is huge, definitely share it with someone else if you want the rice! I tried from my friends' meals and I really liked how they tasted, I am definitely returning!

We have had several home deliveries from this restaurant and have always been very pleased. The 5 star food hygiene was the main reason we chose it after finding our previous orders were from a 1 star rating! Haven't eaten in the restaurant but if the home delivery is anything to go by then we would look forward to it.

Very friendly owner and his wife. You can see nearby University students, many Chinese, coming in for dinner all the time - a good sign of consistently tasty food! The pearls in their bubble teas are the best I've had by far!

Ever since I came to Cardiff, I have been looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant/ takeaway. This one hits the spot. Authentic, quick and service is great. I've had takeaways as well as sit-in meal. All times were amazing. I recommend the dry chilli and spring onion Chicken- Black Chicken! I think this is a really good place especially for internationals looking for some home comforts.

The worst take away I've ever had by a country mile! Ordered a delivery from these people in October 2016. The original delivery estimate was 45mins. This eventually ran to 75 mins! The Hot and Sour soup was neither Hot or Sour. The 'Special Fried Rice' was boiled, had no colour and contained two pieces of boiled Chicken, a quarter of a Spring onion and a few other boiled vegetables! Appalling food and very expensive. I didn't bother eating most of it. Chinese food at it's worst!

Visited Zi's restaurant for the first time last Friday evening as a family group. We were not sure what to expect food wise, atmosphere, service etc., but was totally thrilled with everything. Raymond the Manager and his lovely wife made sure we had the best service, they made us feel so welcome food was great,, he entertained us with some lovely stories and we had the pleasure of meeting his young son, who made the night even more enjoyable. When they heard that I was unwell they gae me a gift of a £5 not wrappped into a heart shape and placed it in a chinese red envelope, to bring me luck, which was very kind and thoughtful on their part. Would certainly recommend it and will definitely be attending again in the near future.

This is one of the best meals I've ever had from a Chinese takeaway. Maybe the best. We can happily recommend the prawn crackers, the spring rolls, the duck pancakes, the chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce and the egg fried rice. Excellent.
