Zero in St Albans

Superb sushi (we had it made to order) - I really really wish this place was in my home town because I'd go there several times a week. It was outstanding, and the service was also lovely. Sit up at the bar and order it freshly made if you can stop, or you can grab some from the fridge and go. They also do other stuff, but I would find it hard to forgo sushi this good.

We came for my partner’s birthday (sushi is her favourite). Fair to say we were blown away with the sushi platter. Kin made the evening super special. All around 5 stars they knocked it out the park! We will be coming back.

Great food, friendly service. Order ahead worked really well. Wasabi and ginger much better quality than mainstream chains.

Food was delicious, the service was super quick and the staff were friendly and polite, I’ll always come back for a chicken katsu curry.

Anyone who loves Japanese food must try this restaurant. The quality of the fish is excellent, fresh and delicious; the roast chicken rice and curry rice are delicious, and even the side dishes and sauces that are easily overlooked are meticulously prepared. The boss and staff are friendly and friendly. Every time you dine in the restaurant, you feel like you are in a "late night canteen". It is a happy shop run with care.

Fabulous quality and a good menu. Service was quick (ready before I go there), didn't really stay for the atmosphere ;-) but staff are friendly!

Zero sushi is amazing! Not only is the food delicious but the staff are wonderful and went above and beyond after a deliveroo mix up. We order both from the store and sometimes when working from home it makes a fabulous lunch. I highly recommend the ‘zero’ (seared salmon sushi) and the veg gyoza plus the seared salmon nigiri. A must try. Thank you again zero for such high quality service and food.

1) Food Quality (5/5) - The sushi/sashimi is very high quality; the fish is fresh, buttery rich and served at the correct temperature. Hot food is delicious; katsu sauce is perfectly spiced; teriyaki sauce a tad too potent but great if spread out 2) Food Range (4/5) - Range acceptable. Hot food could be expanded slightly for interest e.g. to include noodles. Ready to go sushi in the fridge usually quite limited so need to order bespoke, which takes time 3) Service (2/5) - Staff are a little aloof, sullen even, which seems to stem from the management down. The energy of the service needs to be made more positive 4) Atmosphere (2/5) - Venue is tiny and pokey. There is no clear queue/order system so customers shuffle around each other, often having to wait outside in the cold 5) Value (3/5) - Prices have risen while portion sizes have remained static or reduced. Even given today's difficult economic climate, the food feels just too expensive 6) Overall Verdict (4/5) - The hot food is tasty and moreish. The sushi is bordering on exceptional. Would like prices to be more restrained, and more efficient service with more of a smile, but...the food quality drags the overall score to 4/5 7) Got to try... Prawn Katsu Curry, Salmon Teriyaki or go all out with a Sushi Platter!

Service is incredibly quick, and the teriyaki chicken is to die for. Bit small to eat in but I don't do so personally.

Sorry for my 1 start, but not good value for my money. Small portion and very pricey for a takeaway. Never more will go back. Waitrose has same quality and assortment with less then half price then Zero sushi. Disappointed.

Sadly this place was not a hit for me. I have recently moved to the area and am a big sushi fan, however this place just doesn't align with my standards of high quality sashimi. The salmon was extremely fatty and chewy, not pleasant - perhaps it was just a one off...

Honestly the best sushi I've had outside of Japan and in the UK. Sashimi is just melt in your mouth and everything tastes so fresh. And its only 15 mins from my home. Bonus!

We had the amazing platter for my husbands birthday lunch and wow! What an absolute treat. The fish was exquisite quality & perfectly made and presented sushi and sashimi. Can’t wait to go back!

Despite preordering online, you have to queue up to then be told they haven't started your hot food & then queue up again to check if its ready. Staff display poor initiative and below par customer service skills. When your order is being given to you, condiments should be offered - this is not the case. The service has been the same on previous visits. Such a shame given the price, the quality does not match up.

First time that we ordered food from this place and I am not sure will do it again. Although I preordered the food 3 hours prior to the collection they kept me waiting for 10 min outside the shop as the order wasn’t ready. The sushi was ok, pretty average. They also forgot to give me the bottle of water that I paid for and was a part of the hot meal. The customer service needs improvement and I also think it is not a good value for money.

We have had a number of the Sushi platters since Zero reopened, they have all been superb made with the freshest of ingredients they even taste good the next day when we haven’t been able to finish them on the day. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to friends or family and will definitely have again in fact we have one on order to collect The covid precautions are well thought out and easy to deal with

Harpendens back street secret. Very good fresh sushi and small number of japanese sihes with rice. Mainly take away but there are about 6-8 spots to perch and enjoy your food. Open til about 4 but sometimes, unsurprisingly, they run out of some options.

This place is amazing, food is excellent and the service too. The people working there are all very friendly and are welcome to questions. The food is quick to come and was fresh. My only complaint is that they do not always give the right amount of sauce! Sometimes it is to much and over powers the meal and other times it is too little (understandable as they are popular). But it is a lovely place to check out and get food.

Been here many times for a quick lunch and it has always been amazing - fresh, delicious and quick. Seating limited but takeaway available. "Best sushi in Harpenden" is a silly statement because I think it's the only one - but as a fan of sushi and Japanese food I think it compares very well to most places I've visited in the UK. Easily in my top 10 places to eat in Harpenden.

Great staff - friendly, attentive and the food - the Katsu Curry particularly is the stuff of legends in our household.

I was extremely disappointed when I left with my Katsu-curry today, I am a regular customer who enjoys coming to Juice and Sushi for lunch. However, after today I will not be coming back as the portion has significantly decreased and I do not feel I got good value for my money.

Amazing quality sushi that will make it crave their food all the time. Just wished they were open a bit later so I could buy it after work for dinner. Their poke bowls and Seweed salad are my absolute favorites.

A good selection of dishes in sit in and take away options from a chef well versed in Japanese food, very clean and the staff are friendly and well mannered. Good quality food and definitely worth a visit. 5 stars A+

I try and get by a few days without stopping at Zero for a sushi lunch, or their absolutely delicious Salmon Teriyaki, but I never make it. It's too good to resist. I love their poke bowls as well, but love most of all that they make it all on the premises with superb ingredients - ask the delightful staff and they will tell you. So if there is a little wait for your food, it's because it's freshly made. In the past we have treated ourselves to party platters for a special occasion which were almost too beautiful to eat, although we managed :-) . Cannot for the life of me understand why another reviewer would prefer to support a supermarket chain when we are so lucky to have an independent of such superior quality in central Harpenden.

Delicious sushi and katsu, and good service!

Had takeaway (had a few now) and it is always delicious. I was not a big sushi fan but this place has changed that. The fish is so fresh and delicious. Had zero, the crunch and a new one. Fresh, delicious and when I have finished I always wished I had one more tray. Thanks and we will be back soon. Great place

Fantastic fresh sushi every time. We have visited Zero sushi on a number of occasions and are never disappointed. The food is top quality and always tasty. I highly recommend The Crunch or Zero rolls as they are a favourite.

The food is always fresh and fantastic and the staff ( especially Maddie) are charming! We are very regular customers, and have never been disappointed. So great to have such a gem in Harpenden.

Went to Zero today on my break i had my usual a Katsu Curry very nice as always i was standing outside having a smoke while i was waiting the Delightful maddie brought it out to me with a smile on her face.. we always wave at each other when i walk past in the mornings.. this place is worth a visit great service great food friendly service.

The perfect spot for a quick lunch! My first visit was so enjoyable I went back again only a few days later. I had the Salmon Teriyaki on both occasions, which was great quality and value for money so I fully recommend it! My visits here were made even better through the fantastic service by Lukas and Madi. I will definitely be visiting again soon!

Not much selection in the fridge but was able to order something from the menu to be made freshly in front of us. Quite expensive but worth it for the fresh, quality ingredients. Staff were friendly - not much room to eat in especially with buggies! Luckily the sunshine allowed us to enjoy our sushi in the park!

It's nice to have an independent sushi outlet in the area. However, the extortionate price, poor quality and limited range will prevent me from retuning in the future. I had the chicken katsu curry, which contained fatty and inedible chicken. I had originally gone in for sushi but was shocked by the price, especially as I knew I could get better sushi in London for half the price. My advice, go to the Waitrose across the way. Sushi is freshly prepared on site, at a reasonable price and with a wide range of products.

Although there isn’t much space to sit, the food is the best around. All of the sushi in the fridge is freshly prepared and the hot food is delicious. Jacks sushi skills are far superior to his tennis skills😉

I go to zero on my break i always have the Katsu Curry its lovely and these guys deliver great service someone i work with always goes here and he brought back a Katsu Curry it looked great and so thought i would give it a try and loved it.. if your not a susi lover like me there is always other things to try they also do a Prawn one thats very good also.. will always go back.. keep it up guys thankyou :)

I’ve been to Zero many times, the katsu curry is great value for lunch. The sushi is second to none, prepared fresh with love & care. It’s not cheap but do you want cheap fish?

Perfect , had a business trip in Harpenden and needed good quick healthy food. Zero was friendly , informative and very good quality. Would recommend to all on sundry. Well done zero perfect 10 out of 10.

I go here all the time for lunch and always have lovely food. My favourites are the duck gyozas, katsu curry, poke and marinated tuna to name a few. The staff are great; really friendly and they really know their stuff. Would recommend to anyone.

All I can say is their Teriyaki is not Teri-YUCKY it's Teri-YUMMAAY!!! Gyoza, GOOD. Sushi, GOOD, Poke, GOOD.

Somehow they managed to get there Katsu to taste better than wagamama's, can not resist the chicken gyozas on the side. Great selection of sushi too!

Usually I love this place as sushi and sashimi is excellent and you pay that in the price. This time disappointed in the salmon sashimi it had a lot of silver skin on. Also the rice was pretty hard compared to previous times. Considering the price, this was a little let down. It is expensive and they need to keep their standards high.

The sushi is the best around and so is the hot food. I recommend the prawn Tempura rolls and the Sashimi, in terms of hot food, the Salmon and Chicken Teriyaki are the best! It's a shame that the owner is so shy as sometimes he appears to be grumpy.

As a Saturday post gym refuel I often drop into Zero for some sushi. I have tried a number of dishes from the menu and everything is excellent. The place is always buzzing and offers large platters for anyone entertaining which appear very popular.

Love this place and it always have great sushi. This time I tried tuna sashimi which I saw was fatty tuna, hoping it was! Delicious and yes very good quality. It is pricey but you pay for what you get and I suppose they have to pay for quality chef and the harpenden rent! Was talking to other customers when waiting to pay and they all rated this place too. Thumbs up!!

Relatively new eatery. The food is faultless and at such an affordable price. Everything is cooked fresh to order, teriyaki dishes served with rice and either chicken or salmon, Katsu curry dishes served with rice and either chicken or tempura prawn and various types of handmade sushi to choose from. Free lemon water available and a variety of health juices.

Ok well I have never had sushi in Japan but I have in the west end and this fantastic 'pop in' sushi bar competes. Exceptional sushimi and teriyaki. Highly recommend. I will certainly be returning.

Zero will spoil you. Top quality and freshness.

I found Zero very busy at lunch-time. There is a fridge with ready-made trays of Sushi (£3.50 to £4.50) and smoothie drinks (£3.50) – number of top of the bottle matches the number on the drinks menu.

Headed out the city for the day and stumbled across this little gem. Food is made with love - well presented and delicious! I recommend grabbing a juice for the road too!

The sushi at Zero is really good which is why it's such a shame that the guy who owns it it is so unwelcoming and has a terrible manner with customers. Despite the sushi being good this would put me off going in there again.

Food wise this is good nice and fresh I was just so shocked and how rude the man making sushi was- I hate writing bad reviews but I am so cross about the way the chef spoke to me and my young daughter I understand that it is a very busy place to get lunch but I had been waiting 30 minutes for a very simple order I sat in the shop waiting at least 5 orders of hot food the same as our order were given out to people who were just walking in after us after this happened I asked the chef to check our order had gone through he huffed at me then murmured to himself then told I had to sit down and wait as they were busy.....

Very nice sushi and sashimi!! Little expensive for what it is portion wise, otherwise definitely 5 stars. Needed to spend £20 for lunch per person, unfortunately too expensive for daily lunch.

Fresh, tasty, healthy food. Great value. The best place for lunch in Harpenden. I can't rate this lovely restaurant highly enough. And the guy that owns it is always a friendly face.

I used to love getting sushi when I worked in London. I never thought I would have that experience again as not many places really do sushi properly. Until now! Zero is a fabulous place for great sushi. Good prices and best ingredients. Love!

Got a takeout for lunch on Saturday. Honestly, I could have bought all the options, it was really difficult to choose. When we got it home, the quality was fantastic. Deep chunks of sashimi which melted in the mouth. Incredibly tasty rolls.

I recently visited Zero with my daughter and was very pleased with their service. I was surprised that their menu was quite small but the things we did order were top notch. I will definitely be going there again. The service was also very high quality.

Harpenden has been crying out for good Japanese food, and Zero has answered the call. Their sushi presentation was excellent, as is the selection of fresh juices. However on my first visit I felt like something hot. The chicken katsu curry I had is quit possibly the best I've ever tasted - steaming hot, just the right amount of 'kick', and the chicken was beautifully tender. I also had vegetable goyza, which were crispy and delicious also, and a lovely miso to round out the meal. The prices were also very reasonable.
