Zara's Turkish in Edinburgh, City of

Stumbled across Zaras looking for breakfast on our arrival to Edinburgh. Husband had the traditional scottish breakfast which came fully loaded. I had the vegetarian which came with V sausage, hash browns, feta rolls, potato cake, avocado, toms, beans & toast.....a feast ! All cooked to perfection ! Great breakfast, amazing value for money. Friendly staff. 100% recommend !

Friendly staff, delicious food and reasonably priced. The Haggis bonbons were particularly good, we ordered a second portion. We will definitely come back here next time we visit.

Beautiful food and great hosts. A lovely quaint little find. We had a selection off the Tapas style menu. Food was beautifully presented.

Decided to have a day trip to Edinburgh around lunch time decided to look for a restaurant we stumbled on Zara’s and what a meal there was five of us Food Great Staff very helpful and pleasant

Pint of pironi tasted off, was cloudy on appearance Haggis bonbons were soggy, tasteless Spaghetti and meatballs was tasteless and left Left disappointed after spending £58

Had a nice lunch here during our stay in Edinburgh. Not what we usually go for in terms of lunch options but saw it had high reviews and felt we would like to try something different. We were greeted by a lovely gentleman who looked after us throughout our stay. We asked for recommendations and weren’t disappointed.

Omg I literally haven't even left this place I had to give a review right away....fresh fresh fresh,firstly! Best cappuccino I've had all weekend. The full breakfast the eggs Benedict the Mediterranean breakfast all superb soooooo tasty. Just WOW! THANK YOU👌 ...and very friendly all smiles too!

Hard to find a place to sit down for an “early” breakfast but this filled the need. We enjoyed the Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale. They serve a Scottish breakfast as well. Clean, quick and friendly staff . . . A gem on Rose Street! Thank you for a good start for the day!

Delicious food. We had the meatballs, stuffed mushrooms & halloumi. Friendly service. Tasty! Great Pinot Grigio as well.

It was a delicious, yummy lunch! Great amount of vegetables and colors on the plates! The team working was kind, approachable and knowledgeable. Get the mixed grill plate! Yum Yum!

Genuine Turkish food. Well presented and excellent flavour. Good portions as well. We shared a hot Meze and Köfte. Delicious.

First time at the restaurant. Nice small place. Meno was very friendly and so helpful. Food was fantastic will definitely be going back. Would recommend this place for those wanting a quiet relaxing meal.

They are struggling. Staff struggling with English, too few to cope. My 10oz sirloin was beautifully cooked but no where near 10oz. I’m a steak lover, had my share of 8oz, 12oz even 16 oz so I know this was way under. Wife’s pasta was bland and not what the menu described. All of the little thinks are missing, no condiments, asked but never arrived. Hopefully this is new people learning thier way. They have the nerve to add the service charge to your bill too.

Had breakfast here on Sunday morning.We ate outside because the weather was beautiful.Husband had full Scottish breakfast,it was large and had lots of meat which he was pleased with.I had avocado on sourdough toast,the chef very kindly substituted the eggs for me with some beautifully roasted tomatoes and sweet peppers.Ingredients are very good fresh quality and the food tastes great.The coffee is also very good here.Service was fabulous,our waiter and the other staff we heard with other customers were very helpful and friendly.It was a very relaxed,happy place. Prices are quite low and really great value for the amount and quality of food you get.

I sat outside and ordered the stuffed eggplant (Aubergine). Cost:14.50£ I felt that the dish was average and overpriced.

We had missed out on breakfast so thought this cafe looked good. Little did we know. The staff were fairly rude. One of the chefs went to the toilet whilst still wearing his apron. I ordered eggs Benedict but when it came it was on...

The restaurant itself is quaint and the staff are friendly however the food was awful, we shared some small plates which I think were overpriced for what they were.

We visited Zara’s on our last trip to Edinburgh ( 6 years ago) and it was so memorable we had to return. The food tonight is still fantastic - salmon and cream, and chicken curry are thoroughly recommended We rarely comment on food - but...

Seven of us had evening dinner, drinks, then returned for breakfast the following day. The service was amazing, couldn't ask for more friendly accommodating staff. To be honest we had a different restaurant booked, but when we got there it was so noisy and crowded that we walked away. We stumbled and Zara’s. What a great find. The food was great, as was the service and all reasonably priced. My daughter will be recommending it to her Uni friends for sure.

Five close friends looking for breakfast after a 'busy' evening and we found this fantastic spot. Great service, a wide choice of food and a spectacular view of Edinburgh Castle. What more do you need - come here and you won't be disappointed!!

My wife and I were on a day trip to Edinburgh and both fancied a Greek meal. Our first choice restaurant was fully booked, so we wandered down the road and going this place. Glad we did. We’d had a good lunch, so skipped a starter. I had a main from the specials board, Greek lamb kofta (£13.95), served with peppers, mushroom, flatbread, tzaziki and a small salad. It was delicious, as good as anything I’ve had in Greece. My only criticism was the tiny pot of tzaziki that came with it. My wife had spaghetti & meatballs which she couldn’t finish as it was a very generous portion size, but very tasty. I couldn’t resist the baklava, which was served with a blob of whipped cream, a strawberry and some blueberries. I also had a Turkish coffee with it. Although it was very tasty, the portion of baklava was quite small, 2 pieces for a fiver. We also shared a Greek salad and 3 Diet Cokes which brought the total bill to £53 including 10% service charge. Service was quick and our meals arrived quickly. Would definitely return.The only reason I didn’t give it 5 was because of the small portion of tzaziki and baklava, plus the tables for 2 were very close together, otherwise everything else was spot on.

1. The prices are too high for the small portion size and bad quality of food 2. Had a service charge of £8 ( should be optional and not forced to pay especially when food and service was this bad!)3. Very poor service ( was constantly stared at, rushed, very inpolite)4. Tasteless frozen food 5. Ordered calamari rings was served mushed fishy potato rings 6. Went to pay the bill and got told it had to be on one card cos it will charge them for using the card machine separately (that is there problem and shouldn’t be the customers) Overall I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone. We thought we’d try out a small business restaurant rather than a chain restaurant but was very disappointed and angry by the end of it! They really need to improve the food taste wise, price wise and size of portions, and really need to improve there customer service skills. Please save your money and try the lovely bars and restaurants on that strip, so worth it :)

Went with my friend, we ordered 2 starters and 2 mains. Starters were really well portioned and packed with flavour. The mains were incredible, we had the stuffed vine leaves and stuffed aubergine. I would definitely recommend them, both beautiful and well spiced. If you’re looking for a nice, authentic mediterranean restaurant, definitely stop by here.

We found this place on our last night in Edinburgh. Wish we found it sooner. Not many restaurants like this around. Absolutely beautiful food and service. We had stuffed aubergine and stuffed mushrooms for starters. Iskender kebab and grilled chicken for mains. So many great choices on the menu it was hard to choose!!I was also sad to see people walk past the restaurant and assume that it was not good because it wasn’t busy. Authentic, tasty food!!! Please give it a try. I would 100% recommend this place. If I ever visit Edinburgh again in the future we will be back :):)Thank you!!

Lovely little place, really friendly staff. We had the homemade meatball pasta and the kofta, both really tasty. Will definitely be back.

Scottish cooked Breakfast during our weekend stay. Fast and pleasant service. Sat outside and watched the morning activity.

Very disappointing experience. Small portions, expensive prices. Food was nothing special, they charged £7.50 for calamari that was obviously just the cheap frozen kind. There was no toilet paper in the toilet either. Coffee was poor and they charged £1 for hot water!! Would not recommend and would not return. There must be much better places in the centre of Edinburgh.

Met up with family for a meal here. Our food was delicious and large portions. We shared 4 mezze to start (between 4) and then each had a main course and we were full, no chance of squeezing in a dessert. The waiter was friendly and there was a great ambience. I would definitely come again.

Really friendly service and amazing food at a very reasonable price. Would recommend the feta cheese pastries and me fella said the prawns were amazing. Nice pint of peroni too.

For our final night of a really enjoyable family break in Edinburgh, we wanted to go somewhere a bit different - somewhere memorable. We saw Zara’s as we were wandering down Rose Street in the afternoon and it looked ideal - unpretentious, welcoming, relaxed and fun, so we booked a table for the evening.And it turned out to be that, and more. The host was terrific - very attentive, great personality and only too happy to help. The ambience was perfect - very relaxed - and the food was delicious, and there was plenty of it. We had a variety of hot and cold meze between two, whilst the other two had mains. Everything was spot on - and the two desserts were also great. With a nice bottle of house rose on top, the bill was extremely reasonable.We would highly recommend Zara’s - and will definitely return. If you want a lovely, authentic Mediterranean meal somewhere where you feel totally at home, head for Zara’s. I promise you will be pleased you did.

Great selection of food, which was very good. Lovely coffee and hot chocolate. The toilets were very clean with the staff very friendly and helpful.

Stopped off here for breakfast, lovely picturesque restaurant situated in Rose street with outside seating. Full English breakfast was a treat with a mug of tea, Crockery was beautiful, unique, just what we like, attention to detail. Staff were very friendly, we had a bit of banter with then. Toilets are spotless and the inside restaurant was well presented. Thank you for an enjoyable breakfast experience. Will be returning soon.

Visited in July on a Saturday night and the place was busy. I asked for a little bit of help with the menu as I was uncertain about portion sizes and we were recommended to have about 3 small dishes each. Nice cold pint to start with and the food arrived quite quickly. Baked feta, chicken wings, greek salad, salsa dip with bread and potatoes in a cheese sauce were all good home cooked dishes.. Washed it all down with a very reasonable bottle of house red. The staff were very busy but very helpful. Less than £60 for a meal on Rose Street was great value for money

Everything we wanted, and more. The food was very tasty, and arrived in good time. Flavours spot-on, especially the chicken and salmon. Best salmon I've tasted.

Looking for indoor eating we found Zara's. This was a lovely find which is down a side street in Edinburgh. Quiet enough that we could talk to our friends, busy enough outside to give a good ambience. Hot mezze gave a good selection to add up to a main course. My friend's fish wasn't fully cooked but it was instantly remedied and replaced by sincerely apologetic staff, plus some complimentary breads and dips. Dessert.... I had Baklava, it was great. But, please, please ditch the horrible synthetic squirty cream. It adds absolutely nothing to the dessert.Very worthy of 5/5.

Very Mediterranean bistro feel to this lovely place in the glorious sunshine last night. Excellent food and friendly service. Wife had 3 cold meze, hummus, vine leaves and tzatziki and absolutely gorgeous fresh baked flat bread that we loved so much we ordered an extra portion. Mine was deliciously succulent lamb chops and roasted Mediterranean vegetables. A wonderful experience all round helped by 3 points of ice cold draught person I.

Excellent food...recommend cold mezze: tzatziki, humours and vine leaves filled with rice and pine nuts. The accompanying homemade bread was to die for.

We've just had the most amazing meal at Zara's. We're vegetarian and the food was so delicious, I was very impressed indeed. Service was excellent and friendly, I highly recommend you try the stuffed filo parcels!! Great food, lovely people, what's not to like!

Went there after a magical family day out in Edinburgh and it was the cherry on top. The staff were excellent, attentive, friendly and went above and beyond to accommodate my young baby. The food was phenomenal, great portion sizes and the flavours were more than rememberable. Had a few dishes recommended and they were absolutely spot on. Looking forward to my next visit.

We came here on a punt, tbh. Being local, we wouldn't usually consider Rose Street for food as it's a very touristy place. But Zara's is wonderful. The staff were very welcoming and attentive, the meze were fresh and delicious, and the Iskendar kebabs were delicately flavoured, generously portioned, and as good as I've had in Istanbul.

I definitely recommend Zara’s Bistro! It has the most amazing service and the most delicious food and drink. Took my mum for our first outdoor drink and food today and will definitely be going back again! It was a fabulous day, honesty cannot recommend enough, felt so welcome there :) thank you so much!!!! xx

La comida aquí fue insuperable, optamos por pedir numerosos entrantes para que sea como una comida de tapas. esta decisión fue el comienzo de nuestra increíble experiencia. La comida fue sensacional, y pudimos notar que había sido hecha con amor y pasión, los sabores, el tamaño de las porciones y la presentación exquisita. La comida llegó a nuestra mesa de manera oportuna, y el servidor fue atento, sin molestar nuestra comida. Logramos devorar todo lo que se nos presentó y disfrutamos de cada bocado. Sería de mala educación no probar el pasamontañas, sin embargo, no queríamos arruinar lo que habíamos comido, por lo que nuestro viaje se realizó cuando nos dieron la opción de sacar una losa o tres. . .No puedo elogiar este lugar lo suficiente, y esta comida fue perfecta para mí y mis padres, gracias a quienes hicieron que la experiencia valiera aún más la pena sonriendo, incluso bajo la máscara.

Food was very tasty and arrived quickly. The whole spread was very good and everything is homemade, but the standout items had to be the stuffed filo pastry and the falafel, some of the nicest falafel I have ever had!

El personal insistió en que nos lo habían dicho en el momento de la reserva. Creo que es irresponsable ser efectivo solo en este momento. La actitud del personal no fue muy agradable cuando planteamos el problema. No volveré.

A lovely little bistro just off Princes Street, so much nicer than the big chains! Excellent falafel and filo veg among other delicious hot maze offers. Very good service (and Covid protection!) Will come again

Found this fantastic restaurant on a weekend break from N.Ireland. Fantastic and authentic Turkish/Mediterranean food. The owners Pauline and Seyhmus are really friendly and can't do enough for their customers. Highly recommend this for anyone wanting a relaxing meal with great food and friendly staff.

Reservamos en Zara's un miércoles por la noche y tuvimos la suerte de poder disfrutar de la comida fuera para ayudar con el descuento. Un pequeño y encantador lugar pintoresco con toques del Mediterráneo, incluida nuestra querida Turquía, en toda la decoración.Seyhmus, el propietario turco, estuvo disponible para ofrecer consejos sobre los platos meze por los que optamos, aunque también se ofrecen platos especiales del día y a la carta. Cada plato era fresco, sabroso, caliente (si era un plato cocinado) y abundante. Jarra de agua fría traída a la mesa cuando entramos en el restaurante. Fui con mi familia para el cumpleaños de mi madre y fue simplemente increíble, la comida era deliciosa y abundante. El ambiente era agradable y tranquilo. Y el dueño fue absolutamente encantador. Recomiendo hacer una parada aquí si quieres una comida y un servicio increíbles.

Encontré Zara en un viaje de un día a Edimburgo y la comida era excepcional (muchas opciones vegetarianas impresionantes que me encantó). Menú realmente interesante con muchas opciones y comida maravillosamente sabrosa. Mi compañero y yo teníamos las alitas de pollo, falafel y paquetes de filo para comenzar; pensamos que este sería el punto culminante de la comida, ya que los entrantes eran tan buenos, pero nos equivocamos. Great place, hidden on Edinburgh's Rose Street. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious and it was reasonably priced. I'd recommend the Baklava for dessert.

Small, cosy, tucked away from the main street. The menu is well-thought out, offering old and new stuff to every taste. I had a meze assortiment which was excellent. My son had lamb which was "ample" in his words. Nobody will leave hungry here.The freshly-baked bread was the icing on the cake - it could have been the meal on its own. Will return, highly recommendable.

This is one of the best dining experiences we have had in Edinburgh. Great food, nice ambience, excellent, friendly service. We will definitely call in again on our next visit to Edinburgh.

I moved to Edinburgh in 2015 and started to come here in the first year I lived here on a regular basis. I have not stopped since. It’s a fantastic, warm place, welcoming to all regardless of origin or status and equally importantly does wonderful food. If you are passing through Edinburgh on your travels or are an Edinburgh local don’t miss it.

Having a day out in Edinburgh weren't sure where to go for a meal went in here on the off chance the meal was lovely especially the main course friendly service and good food would definitely recommend

After reading other reviews posted on this site, we entered with high hopes but were left Disappointed. The food although palatable was only average and not worth the price tag, with garlic bread costing just shy of £4 for 3 slices of bread that in all honesty you could buy a loaf of for a quid in Aldi. Some of the meals were blatantly and obviously made using frozen ingredients and some of the dishes had to be returned due to being to cold. A service charge was also added to the bill due to our table despite the returning of the meals. Unfortunately, I would not return back despite the friendly nature of the staff.

One of the worse meals we’ve ever had. Portions very small. Lamb casserole was stone cold. Not freshly made just warmed up in the microwave, . Fish and chips were frozen. The cheapest breaded piece of fish you could buy. Mixed grill meat was tough. Chocolate fudge cake was served cold?? No children’s menu and they wouldn't serve a small portion so had to purchase an adult meal. It was awful, awful awful!! To add insult to injury a service charge of £15.00 was added to the bill. Avoid at all costs.

We are here after Xmas.Food was lovely.We had the Meze.Service was great and most welcoming.The only downfall was they didn’t tell us their chip and pin machine was not working when we arrived.My husband then had to run out to the bank to get money for the bill.So If you are eating here make sure you have cash.We found it a quite embarrassing situation.Needless to say no tip was left.

Excellent food and service. Had a wonderful selection of Mediterranean fare, the homemade Tzatziki with fresh bread was divine, and easy Scottish fare for my picky, fish and chips every day kid. I enjoyed the seafood casserole on special that was more a gumbo with salmon, shrimp and mussels. It filled me up perfectly. The only con was that their credit card line was down and we had to scrounge for enough cash, but that didn’t pull them down from a 5*!

I didn’t fancy a pub or fast food chain for dinner as we had ended up at Pizza Hut for tea last night due to everywhere in Edinburgh being full up, so we kept walking down Rose street and thought Zara’s looked nice. I’m half Greek so love Mediterranean food! Anyway, starters were good and I ordered Scottish salmon for main but when it came it was raw inside. They took it right back and sorted it out for me and it was really nice. However, the bill came to over £50 and we were charged full price, despite my food being really undercooked. I was hoping they would discount us as my boyfriend had finished his meal before mine came back. Very unfortunate as it’s a nice little spot with nice owners.

Had 3 course dinner and a lot of drinks, so reasonably priced with amazing food. The service was incredible, the waiter was constantly making jokes and lifting our spirits. Every time I go to Edinburgh I will visit this restaurant. 5 out of 5

Staff really friendly. We had Fresh bread and assorted dips to share. Delicious calamari. Mains were great and really filling. Baklava for desert was also great. Ate a substantial amount of food. Really good place

Myself and 4 friends came for a meal in December. Had fabulous starters, mains. However, the must have was the baclava! Which was bloody delicious xxx

We were staying in a hotel for the weekend just round the corner so we popped in at lunch to book a table for the Saturday evening for 7pm in person. We were told by the member of staff taking the booking "Don't be late!" (note the absence of "please").We arrived promptly and our mains took about 45 minutes to arrive, but were in no particular hurry, just out for the evening. The place was certainly busy with more booked customers (we were right by the door and could hear every conversation as customers arrived) and they also accepted some customers without bookings, even squeezing 3 people onto a table for 2 next to us.We became puzzled that although coming back again and again to serve this table right next to us they resolutely ignored our finished plates.Then on the dot of 8.30 they finally came to our table but just to present the bill! We said we wanted to order dessert but were told that they needed our table and we had to leave! A couple booked in for 8.30 were standing right beside us by the door literally waiting for our table!When we said that no-one had told us at any time that we only had the table until 8.30 all we got was "Sorry, sorry, sorry..."Faced with the couple literally standing by us waiting for our table (they were very pleasant and very sympathetic) and our evening ruined we paid and left.They obviously have little or no booking system and just seem to operate on greed trying to get as many covers as possible even if that means upsetting some customers.Best check how long you have your table for when you book!The food was okay but the "Roman potatoes" are best avoided - they're just chips with some not so freshly grated parmesan thrown on as an afterthought and not a trace of rosemary! I could do better myself.

We found this delightful cosy bistro Sunday evening. There were four of us and we were made to feel very welcome. The food was superb and the staff very attentive. They were happy to make amendments to any dishes that we ordered. The slow cooked lamb got the thumbs up as did the chargrilled chicken and they were happy to re cook a chicken curry with no mushrooms. Would definitely reccommend this little gem of a place we will be back.

Small restaurant located on a very quaint street. We were welcomed warmly and service was attentive. Our group ordered a variety of dishes and everything was delicious. Reservations are highly recommended.

Agotados por la caminata hasta el castillo y de regreso, no nos dimos cuenta de lo difícil que sería conseguir un asiento para comer en la ciudad. Mientras caminábamos por zaras, una pareja salió, así que aprovechamos nuestra oportunidad. Nos saludaron calurosamente y nos dieron la bienvenida a nuestros asientos. Tuve la salchicha picante y hummus, ella misma tenía las albóndigas y haloumi. Para el postre ella tenía el pastel de chocolate y yo tuve el baklava. Toda la comida era deliciosa y el personal era educado y atento. Bien vale la pena una visita.

We took a chance on this basic looking bistro on Saturday evening; we were both impressed with the food and the pleasant and helpful service; will defiantly return when next in the City.

Repas correct mais refus de la carte bancaire au moment de payer il a fallu aller retirer du cash alors que d autres étaient acceptés. Le service n etait également pas compte sur la note.Tout ça n etait évidemment pas marqué nulle part...Pas à recommander surtout aux étrangers !

The owner couldn’t have done more to make our meal and evening more enjoyable, really helpful and accommodating. The food was really delicious too.
