Great food but will consistently send the wrong order or not at all.

Really good food, I had a combination of the loaded fries and burritos. It was unreal. If you are in the area and fancy Mexican style food, please call in. There is a seating area downstairs and another larger area upstairs. The venue is clean and looks cared for.

I have spent 1 year in the US and I had a lot of burritos.. I ordered a medium and that was the heaviest burrito I have ever had. I will digest it in 20 hours at least. The atmosphere was good tho

Stand in queue waiting to order whilst staff prepare deliveroo orders in front of you and don’t make eye contact with customers in the restaurant. Get to eat with a wooden fork. Food adequate and tasty enough at the price. I won’t need to visit again

One of our friend recommends us, so visited this place we ordered Burrito which was very tasty, this filling was just perfect. The person who served us was very nice and we loved the atmosphere of the place very positive vibe.

Stuffed full fajita with tasty food

Had a nice hearty burrito for £8 I'd say the price is ok for the taste, they also have a good selection of fillings for customisation

As someone whose had a real Californian burrito none in the UK can compare. Paying to have guacamole is not normal!

They offer various meal deals. One is called "student" and is listed next to "medium" and "large". That could just be the name of the deal (in the same way I don't necessarily expect I have to be large to buy a large deal), but you indeed may need to show your ID to prove you're a student (e.g. if the staff member thinks you look old). I felt profiled. And in the end, the food really wasn't worth the money or the awkwardness. There are better options for burritos close by. Certainly not coming back.

Very unpleasant. As others have said the food is just very bad quality and cold.

My son took me there and I did enjoy my enchiladas.... plenty cheese .. yummy!

IMO the best place in Newcastle for Tex Mex food. Whether it's a burrito or a quesadilla, it's always nice and tasty. They make it fresh to order so you can have it exactly as you want too, and there is plenty of choice for ingredients. The pulled pork is a particular favourite of mine, it's always seasoned well and juicy rather than dry. Topped off with their creamy Monterey Jack cheese and any combo is a winner.

Edit: 17/8/23 Two burritos made at the same time, for the same order are so drastically different in size despite both being the large ones. One was two inches shorter and far less full than the other. Still tasty, but this sort of inconsistent construction leaves you guessing everytime, and it's quite frustrating. Possibly one of the best burritos you can get. If you can handle your heat I'd strongly suggest going for their own Zapata salsa, as it pairs brilliantly with the beef or pork filling. Getting the large burrito is an absolute must if you're hungry as the regular feels a little bit bite sized for me personally. The reasoning for the 4* food comes down to only consistency of the person making it and some are at a higher standard than others. (No picture Included as nobody wants to see the food with a bite mark!)

Subway but for burritos - have been coming here for years and always received excellent service and top notch food.

Absolutely lovely food. Burrito was amazing! We went pre-gig at the O2 and it was just roubd the corner. The person who served us was so friendly and helpful. Would definitely visit again.

The worst burrito I've ever had! The lady didn't know how to roll it, so it was all beans on one end and salsa on the other end. And when I finally got to the rice layer (centre of the burrito, mixed with nothing else) it was crunchy. I used to go to the other zapatistas near Central Station which was good, but was so disappointed by this terrible meal. Waste of money.

Best Mexican in Newcastle. Works a little bit like subway so your in control of what's going into your food. Good choice of filling and different spice levels. A little pricey but worth the money.

If you're looking for somewhere different to eat, Zapatista is a great alternative or regular place to visit, especially if you're looking for a place that offers a healthy alternative to the usual suspects. Recommended a Burrito meal if you pay a visit.

Great little place, and it’s so much nicer since they redeveloped the front street, feels welcoming. They also have new cycle parking a few meters away which is really helpful. The menu is a little confusing but can’t complain with the choice. The staff are friendly and the food tastes amazing.

Really generously filled and delicious burritos offered in a selection of vegetarian and meat fillings. Everything looks fresh and the food preparation area looks very clean. I usually go. around closing time and staff have always been pleasant.

What a great little find. Perfect for a quick bite before heading over to City Hall. Food is delicious and reasonably priced.

Cannot say enough about how yummy the burritos are here! Both veggie options are my favorite (chickpeas and Sweet potato)

You will not believe how quickly you'll be served even if there is a queue out of the door When this place first opened you'd often be standing out into the street because everyone knows how good a Zappas is, there's two now so not as likely to happen Great options available as well as vegetarian and vegan, you can even get a beer which is nice I'll be honest, quality isn't the same as it was at inception, but I can still confidently say I have a special place in my heart for Zapatistas and the food is still exceptionally tasty

Great relaxed place to just sit and eat good food

First of all, it was cold. Me and sister sat inside and the menu looked lovely and staff who served us were also very nice people. The food however, was bitterly disappointing. I cannot wrap my head around the fact it was cold, even the chips were lukewarm at best! My burrito consisted of: spicy shredded beef, spicy beens, cheese, lettuce and mild spice salsa. What made it worse was that everything in the wrap seemed to be different temperatures the beans were genuinely COLD, rice? barley lukewarm and the same with the beef which also had a bit too much of a ‘chew’ too it for my liking considering it was shredded already. Presentation was what you’d expect: fairly simple and basic (no complaints there). Perhaps the restaurant had an “off day” although, there HAS to be a maintained temperature of the food to avoid this happening. Imagine biting into your burrito to have genuinely cold stuff mixing with the lukewarm stuff as you chew? Obviously the lettuce and salsa are expected to be cold or room temperature perhaps. Would not recommend

Like they say grab a fist full of mexican flavour. Really tasty food. Can get busy, expect to queue at times. Unfortunately they had no shot glasses at my last visit so no tequila : -( A little pricey but tastier than the premium burger joints around town.

The burrito I had was lovely and I thought it was excellent value. It's a bit like a Mexican Subway. The food was very filling. So, why only 4 stars? Well, my wife was less keen and I think that this had a lot to do with the fact she expected the burrito to be hot and it wasn't. The first time I went, the young man serving me rolled a very tight burrito, whereas the girl who served me the next time wasn't as good. The burrito was rolled far more loosely and as a result, started to fall apart as I ate it, creating quite a mess. My only other comment is that I wasn't keen on the music. As it's Mexican food, I get the logic behind traditional Mexican music, but given the atmosphere and clientele I saw there, something like Carlos Santana would have been a better choice.

I love this place. As with all places good food costs a wee bit more. If I'm in town this is my go to place for scran. I'm probably addicted to the super hot salsa.

Good value with student deal, nice staff and lots of customisation available but we were left disappointed by the meat option being cold and the tables not being clean

•Burrito was extremely dry as the member of staff didn’t ask if I wanted any sauce. •The food was flavourless except for the red onions, might as well have just eaten an onion. •None of the ingredients are labelled in-store making it difficult to know what things are, and the fact that the member of staff serving me didn’t know what some of them were either didn’t help. •Very poor communication from staff to the point it made me feel uncomfortable. If you want a decent burrito in Newcastle go to Tortilla in Eldon Square.

Been here a few times now and I'm yet to have a bad word to say about the place. Had the burrito meal deal today which was perfect as always and the spicy seasoned chips were delicious. The lad serving this morning was a credit to the company, very welcoming, efficient, happy and professional. Well done guys!

First time and will deffo be back...really great vibe and food was amazing!

They don’t even deserve 1 star. The person behind the counter did not wrap the foil around the burrito twice. As the result, it was so slippery (because of the salsa sauce) that we couldn’t even hold it properly. We ordered two burritos for take out. They gave a bag (very nice of them). Unfortunately, the bag is sturdy enough - it ripped whilst we were walking on the street and both the burritos fell through. Perhaps they can double bag it.

The only burrito bar you should be going to in town. Nothing and nowhere beats this place. Fresh healthy ingredients, good quantity and great quality.

Updated review: Since posting this review we seem to have an an issue when a certain manager is in store (every other time has been fine), one burrito we get doesn’t contain a filling, beans, salsa etc. just rice and some dairy. Normally we are charged £1.80 for this, however today we have been charged £5.50 which is the price of a normal burrito. Now I understand this is a business, however every other time we are charged for double dairy and just don’t see why the price should be the same as a normal burrito when we don’t get half of the items! The normal burrito we got had barely anything in it. Pictures attached. Based off this, we probably now won’t return. We travel from Morpeth to come here and for the price we are being charged it just isn’t worth it anymore. Staff don’t seem to be trained, unsure of pricing on vegan options and my partner had a very embarrassing/frustrating experience when ordering. Just doesn’t seem to be consistent anymore. Original review: Food is nice, prices are very reasonable for what you get. Always busy so recommend going when it opens as there’s normally no queue. The only thing is that sometimes the chips aren’t fresh and can be a bit slow when it’s busy. Overall 5/5 as we visit pretty much every week with no complaints.

Better ordering on Deliveroo than waiting 30mins to be served

Certain meats lack flavor and tend to make the buritto soggy. Chips are decent if you get a meal deal.

Excellent Burritos, good choice of options, it is a bit like subway but much better and very reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and it was pleasant to eat in.

Workers are lovely, and the prices are quite affordable. No matter how busy it gets you can get seen quite quickly. Definitely recommend!

We decided to give zapatista a try after it was highly recommended & it didn't disappoint. Fast, friendly service from start to finish & the chicken quesadilla & spicy beef burrito where both tasted sensational.

First time going to Zapatista in a long time, queue was long but it was lunch time. It was very warm in the queue which was difficult as a pregnant woman (though I am sure it wasn't great for others either). The lady who served me spoke very quietly and it was hard to hear her over the noise inside ... Then she sneezed on my food before wrapping it up. Will probably go back but I hope for a different experience :)

This is like a Mexican subway but better. As a family we had Fajitas and tacos and none of us had anything bad to say about any of them because they were all delicious. The lady that served us was very helpful and very friendly, and the dine in experience was pretty good too.

Gone down hill recently called today and to be honest 3⭐️⭐️⭐️is generous Food was warm at best staff rushed through our selection three helpings of nachos .came to pay and presented my latest loyalty card to get stamped to be told new rule one stamp per visit instead of one per main course purchased 🤔 Been dining here since the beginning and first time I have had a negative experience hopefully next time it will be back to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️and today was just a blip

Amazing food for a decent price

Standard slop here, other burrito chains are far superior. If you want more than one type of salad, you'll be charged extra, likewise if you dare to want both sour cream and cheese. Fillings look like they've been sat in the counter for days on end. My burrito stuck to the foil making it really difficult to eat on the train, whilst the servers couldn't be bothered to give me some napkins either. Just to to Tortilla and have a much better time.

Food didn't look fresh - some of the food at the counter had a 'skin' on from standing too long. Wouldn't come to the Newcastle branch again - completely different experience to the Durham branch, which was very pleasant.

Efficient, polite and great value.

Yet again, the best mexican in Newcastle absolutely nailed my burrito. Spicey beans perfect, chargrilled chicken tasty and fresh, two scoops of Zapata (the hottest salsa they offer) and extra cheese and sour cream topped off with some crunchy lettuce. Wow. First off, the staff are so friendly, asking about my cool retro jacket and telling me the Zapata is far too hot and asking if ima sure I want it, I mean Id have that on a drip, it's one of the nicest salsa/chilli sauces I've ever eaten, so the staff get a 10/10 on their own. The food was yet again absolutely incredible, tasty, fresh, crunchy with that extra snazz of the potent zapata launched in the mix, I'm having flash backs to it now sorry... As always though, perfect food, great staff and a damn good meal. Anyone in Newcastle who hasn't tried this place, start with the quesadillas or burrito, you can't go wrong at the best place in Newcastle for mexican munch. I tried to take a picture of the food without a bite but I couldn't stop myself taking a bite as soon as I smelled the fantastic aroma coming from my burrito! As always, I'll be back!!!

Really good fast food. It isn't going to get a Michelin star but it will fill your belly. Good value for money.

The food is ok, I didn't like the salsa. The flavor is not bad. It just doesn't taste like mexican food should. They sell Jarritos, which is a nice touch for a mexican restaurant.

As always, excellent food at a competitive price.
