Zaika in Ipswich

Good food. A solid 8/10 for the lamb balti and chicken jalfrezi. Sizzling prawn was a little disspointing. Nan and rice excellent as were the poppadoms. One pickle had a cm of oil on top that was off putting. Chocolate dessert was nice. The strawberry cheesecake was one of the worst things I have eaten, so avoid. Lighting was very poor on our table for 2. We "could" have been moved at any time. Expensive at £66.

Fantastic service. Everyone was so accommodating for my Husband in his wheelchair and his onion allergy! Nothing was too much trouble and the food was excellent. Cannot recommend enough, we will certainly be back soon. Thank you!

We arrived at 6.30pm on Friday and the head of house squeezed us in and told us we could have the table for an hour as she was full. Wow, my husband and I love eating indian food and this surpassed our expectations. It was amazing, the flavours were exceptional. We said if we lived in ipswich we would go there all the time. Very cheap too. I had chicken tikka dansak and my husband had Nepal chicken which was a special. I belive the lady said that they were expanding to take over next door. We wish them all the luck!

Great customer service considering it was busy. Lots of choice great good and fair portion sizes. We would highly recommend the food was flavoursome and yummy! We aee quite particular as a family about where we get a curry and this met our standards! We enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back!

We visited tonight (Sunday evening) for a special occasion, and immediately when we walked in you can tell how attentive the team were, and that it was going to be a fantastic meal. We had various requests, and the waiters took their time to explain how the dishes were prepared (in particular for our vegan guest) which reassured her massively. The plates were super warm, the food was presented perfectly, the naan’s were amazing, it was very evident that Zaika were passionate about their cooking and take pride in presenting their food to the highest standard. Abdul took time to explain to my grandparents how their dish was made and even provided guidance and spices to help remake the dish at home, never had that kind of service at any type of restaurant in my life. Probably the best dining experience I’ve had anywhere, ever. Couldn’t recommend Zaika enough, will certainly always dine here from now on, can’t thank Abdul and his team enough for making it a special evening to remember. Kudos to you all for running such a fine establishment.

This used to be my favourite Indian restaurant in Ipswich, but based on my last experience I won’t be rushing back any time soon. The service provided was very poor, the older waiter with the beard was very abrupt verging on the rude side, we felt that the whole service was rushed, food basically chucked at us. When collecting the empty plates one person was still eating and the waiter just hovered over him until he finished. The starter was quite cold as was the main course. All in all, really bad experience for a restaurant that used to be great.

We turned up after walking past on the off chance after the theatre. It was late (9.45pm ) and everywhere else seemed closed. There was a large group but they were leaving when we got there, so the restaurant was empty but they were so nice and accommodating. We chose a rezalla and a green chilli masala (panner and prawn) loved there huge selection of dishes and serving everything in panner (a personal fave!) Dishes were wonderful, staff were so friendly and enthusiastic, definitely returning

Great Indian food - the best I've had anywhere recently. Generous portions. Friendly knowledgeable staff. An interesting and varied menu. The quality of the food is certainly above average. Booking advisable - very popular!

We were in Ipswich, a town neither of us had been in before and at a loss to find somewhere for dinner when we stumbled across this place. The food was very good traditional Indian cookery. The staff were excellent, the waiter checking we were Ok with the naan bread we'd ordered for instance, as it wasn't strictly vegan as the the of our dinner. We'll seek it out next time we're in the area.

We tried to book a table as we have been a loyal customer, tried 8 calls and messages with no response! Been going for many years, it’s a shame but the service has fallen dramatically. Shame as the owner is so nice!

I've been staying in Ipswich for business for a while, and Zaika is a great place to get a really good Indian dinner. It's so good, i've been back there about 8 times!

What can I say other than, it's not a coincidence that every single time we eat at Zaika, the food and service is excellent! Despite being short staffed during this pandemic, Abdul and Kashwi still maintain such high standards in both food and service. As much as we would love for Zaika to be nearer to us, it's probably a good job we have a 50 mile round trip otherwise we would be here every week. From the first time we came here, we have never eaten Indian food anywhere else. So if you haven't been here before, make sure you try as you won't be disappointed. Amazing food and by far the best I have had in years in comparison to London Indian Restaurant's. The biryani and lamb curry dishes is a must. All I can say is wherever you normally go for your Indian food, stop going there and start going to Zaika instead!We happily drive a 50 mile round trip to enjoy their fantastic food which never disappoints.Abdul and his wife Kashwi go above and beyond, and like their food, the service is second to none and nothing is too much trouble.Anyone who doesn't come away from Zaika having experienced delicious food and excellent service clearly doesn't appreciate what Zaika provides and maybe needs to go somewhere else!We look forward to booking again soon

We also sat in upstairs Room which was boiling hot. Our table was definitely not 2 metres from the next one!Food was quite niceWhen we got home we discovered we had been overcharged by £16!We went on a weds so I guess they were trying to make their money back!!

Arrived with my mother to be asked if we minded eating upstairs, of course not until we walked up the filthy carpet to what I can only describe as an old ladies lounge! We ordered a bottle of wine and a mixed starter to share..... after a long wait the wine arrived...another long wait for a cold bland starter.I said I wasn’t happy with where we were sitting but will pay for the food and hadn’t really touched the wine so will pay for a glass, the manager came up with attitude and said as we had opened the wine we had to pay for the bottle.......his waiter opened the bottle! We paid almost £30. Just to get out of there!

Very disapointed as there was no receipt given saying that they can not print it. So basicly I paid more than I should and they can claim 20 pounds more from the goverment scheme

We thoroughly enjoyed a meal here for a friends birthday. Corona virus guidelines were followed perfectly and the food was delicious. Service was so friendly - would highly recommend!

Ordered a takeway, due to lock down. Phone was answered quickly by very friendly staff. Had decided to try a new curry (not very brave). The delivery driver arrived wearing a mask and gloves, was very polite and proffessional too.Food was lovely and hot. - Ordered the chicken Malaya with lemon rice - first mouthful was unbelievably flavouresome -still pretty mild but every mouthful was a sheer delight. Won't be ordering a Kurma again in future, I'm converted.Thank you very much to all the staff for such a wonderful experience and all the best to you for the future. We will be back.

This place was recommended but first time we had eaten there. The food was lovely when it arrived but waited over an hour to get our mains after the popadoms. Staff were clearly over stretched on a busy Saturday night and this meant there was some lack of coordination with everyone serving rather than one being responsible for a group of tables leading to some duplication and lack of attentiveness. Would help a lot to let customers know how long they may wait, offer a complimentary drink etc. We tried to be patient but others might not have been.

By far and away the best indian in Ipswich. The only place I've found which does Hyderabadi Biryani. And it's tastes great! Along with a samba dhal and it's just bliss. Tastes even better the next day too.

Enquired about a Table for a Birthday celebration. Made it clear that we'd like to be downstairs. (We'd been put upstairs last time, and seemed to be forgotten). Got a call back to confirm our request. Arrived with my Family to an almost empty Restaurant, to be told our table was now upstairs. Apparently, the Manager, who wasn't there, had got a request from a bigger Group. Very disappointing for us, and embarrassing for the Staff. Didn't stop. Won't be going back.

Food has always been good. Complimentary pompadoms with every order. One occasion the rice was missing when delivered, phoned and could hear them arguing in the background, a replacement was delivered quite quickly.

Having eaten at this restaurant on several occasions I have enjoyed good food and pleasant atmosphere.However, our last visit fell far short of our previous experiences 1. Slow service. Despite placing a drinks order at the bar, whilst we waited for a previous party to finish, we had to remind staff to serve almost 20 mins after we sat down. Similarly we had to ask staff to take our order and a follow up request for our food 1 hr after we had ordered.Staff attitude and customer service was poor with no acknowledgment or apology.The food was good, but serving good food alone does not bring back customers.You guys need to reflect on not only your customer service but the restaurant itself:Decor downstairs is shabby.Carpets on stairs in poor condition and potential safety hazard.Toilets damaged Check your kitchen extractor as the strength of roasted spice as you enter the restaurant is over powering and many customers were coughing.There are many other good Indian restaurants in town. Do not rely solely on your location in a nice part of town to attract customers if this us your level of service.

Made an order on 11/12/2019 at 21:16! Wanted a lamb bhuna, 2 cheese naans, hydrabaadi chicken biryani and a prawn puri! When I called they asked if they can call me back after 5-10 mins even though they had not taken my order yet! it took 10 mins for the person to take my address down, claims she couldn’t hear me! Then another person took over the call and took my order down!The food cam about an hour later, the bhuna has 4 pieces of meat and a lot of onions! The biryani was hot! Despite telling them no spice! The naans were dry! I wouldn’t order again!! Have heartburn due from onions on bhuna

Food was fine service was slow. The air con unit leaked over me in a mini flood. When the member of staff was informed he said ‘It’s not my fault, I am not an engineer’ . A simple sorry would have done, in a town where there are many good indian restaurants this is cavalier in the extreme.

A group us booked Zaika for a post-football curry on Saturday night. I ordered the lamb balti again after enjoying it so much on my last visit, and it was just as good this time around. The poppadoms, naan and dips/sauces were all excellent too. Comfortably the best curry house in Ipswich.

I been in this restaurant couple of weeks ago with some friends, I ordered lamb jalfriezy which was very blunt taste, gravy was sweet onion sauce, there wasn’t any salt . Tardka dall wasn’t tempered at all, it was like boil lentils... I won’t be back. I think chefs need to take more time to cook the curries. I am surprised how come they are doing so busy, even the trip advisor report are so good!

We visited Zaika on a wet, cold monday evening in June. The food and hospitality certainly warmed us up. I had mixed starter and other half had butterflied king prawn. Both were excellent.

I have been visiting Ipswich for work for 3 years and always look forward to eating here whenever I can. I have never experienced anything other than exceptional food and hospitality, by far the best Indian dining I have ever had.

Literally found this place by accident and so glad we did. The staff were so friendly and super attentive without being in your face. The food was absolutely amazing (and we love our curries). Everything was fresh and so tasty. My lamb curry was ridiculously tender. If we lived nearer, this would be our ‘go to’ restaurant.

We were going to the cinema so we wanted efficient service, as well as great food. We got both here. The service was excellent, and while the food was the standard Indian restaurant menu, it was great quality, well-cooked, and plenty of it for a good price.

I used to visit regularly this place for casual dinner or lunch. Mango Chutney and Mango Lassi is awesome. Hyderabadi dum Biryani is a must eat here. I am sure everybody will love it. Service is superb. Indian bread is not upto mark with authentic Indian bread. It is a place one can go casually or even party there. They also deliver at home.

Food is good. A well planned menu with ample choices to make from vegetarian and non veg food. Well situated at the heart of town centre.

Visited with customers to the Zaika restaurant on a busy night and was taken to the room upstairs . It was here that we all noticed the carpets all the way up the stairs and in the room were absolutely disgusting and looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years - made us nervous about eating here.

Unfortunately this restaurant let itself down massively we arrived at 7pm and didn't get served our food until 8.15pm we nearly got. Up and. left.it seemed as though they were more worried about getting the takeaways out than serving the people in the restaurant. The food was nice but no better than a takeaway which I wish we would have got instead.

Table booked for 6.45pm. Seated at 7.05pm. Food arrived on table at 8.30pm!! Seated next to front door which is worst place to sit but we could also see and watch people coming in for take-aways who were also waiting (we watched one waiting for 50 mins after being told to come in 8.10pm!). Zaika were taking too many bookings for number of staff / kitchen chefs or size of kitchen. They need to decide if they're a take- away or a restaurant. (Loud, heavy drinking swearing blokes eating after the Ipswich football match also ruined the night but that can't be fault of the restaurant). Food was ok but nothing special but when you want to eat early at 6.45pm and you don't start until 8.30pm you're not in the mood. No offer for a discount as long delays. Chaotic place. Too many other better places to eat in Ipswich.

Table booked for 645 eventually seated at 710. Busy Saturday night. Large tables of loud male customers some swearing and shouting, difficult for staff to do much about this but very unpleasant. Observed while we waited well over an hour 15 for our main (and only) course that the restaurant was struggling to cope with both takeaway and restaurant orders. Lots of disgruntled customers. Stress on manager was obvious as he barked orders at the very pleasant waiting staff who were trying their best also making an unpleasant atmosphere. When it arrived food was nice but took far too long to arrive. Feel like we've wasted money tonight... ridiculously slow food service, unpleasant atmosphere.

What a great place! Food was fantastic. Had a mixed kebab for starters and was pleasantly surprised. Had the Zaika Special for mains and I think that portion was good for 2 (and I can manage large portions) and same as the starter the lamb was very tasty. The Kema Naan was probably the best one I had ever! Definitely will recommend it.

Our party of 10 ate here without booking. The staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating even though they were quite obviously very busy. They advised us they would have a table within 20 minutes and allowed us to wait. Once seated they promptly took our order. The food was absolutely delicious. I shared a mixed shashslic and a pathia with my husband and it was probably the best I’d tasted. The price was very reasonable too. I highly recommend this restaurant.

myself and my partner both work and have children so thought for valentines it would be nice to have a takeaway, we had previously had them from Zaika before with no issues. we phoned through early as we know it is a standard hours wait, when the driver delivered the indian, he took it out of a cool box. I then got the trays out of the bag and realised that they had no heat to them at all, we dished the food up, the food had no heat to it at all and was stone cold. The receipt stated that it was out for delivery at 7 but we didn't receive this order until 7:25. I phoned then straight away and explained that the food was cold and not really edible or appetising to eat and asked if we had been last on the list of deliveries, I was advised to hold why he spoke with other people in the restaurant (I was not put on hold and could hear all comments), a lady was adamant that there was no way my food was cold (this was heard while on hold and was basically called a liar) she then came to the phone to advise me that the orders were being taken straight out and even though they were busy they were managing and she found it hard to believe that my food was stone cold (clearly I was lying while sitting in front of an uneaten dinner) she continued to talk at me about how the driver came straight to me, which I find hard to believe as I only live a 5 minute drive. I mentioned about the time on the receipt and the fact it didn't come till 25 minutes later and this was also shrugged off. I was offered another dinner but would have to wait for that to be re-cooked.

Heard a lot of good thinks about here but was slightly underwhelmed. Yes, food was tasty but it was standard curry house - nothing exciting. Ceylon was average, slightly greasy and oily but still tasty. Shamee kebab tasty too. Small venue so book but can not fault friendliness of staff. Good, but think there are tastier curries in Ipswich

I really do! My children do too, although they keep telling me that I order too many poppadoms. They are wrong however. You can never have too many poppadoms.

Every time we visit Ipswich we make a beeline for Zaika. It never fails to impress. The staff are uniformly excellent, pleasant and helpful. The food is consistently excellent - one of our favourite Indians. In my opinion you can't go wrong. Love it.

We visited this place this evening on the understanding of 3 things; 1) an Indian in Ipswich, 2) birthday meal out & 3) my first Indian meal! Words can't even describe the evenings from the moment we walked into the door to the moment we left the staff couldn't do enough. The food was delightful as well and we can confidently say that we'll be coming back. It's safe to say four very fussy customers were completely satisfied! Thank you Zaika!

Small restaurant (also does takeaway, but we ate in), with friendly service. They will do their best to tailor the heat of your meal to what you prefer. Meaning you get the delicious spices without the heat, unless you want it of course.

Booked this for my husbands birthday meal and we were not disappointed, the service was excellent and as for the food outside of London I can honestly say this is the best indian restaurant we have eaten in and well worth the drive from Bury St Edmunds to visit !! The food was good value for money and really flavourful and unlike some not swimming in gee !!

Visited here with some colleagues. The staff were really friendly and helpful and always there at the right time without ever being imposing. We ordered a mixture of food to share as recommended by the waiter. It was all delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Would definitely visit again.

We visited this charming little place on a busy Friday night - and although we were told we’d grabbed the last table, we were made to feel right at home. The food was delicious - very fresh and flavoursome. Very reasonably priced too - we will definitely return. Highlights were the mango sorbet, served in half a frozen mango (!) and the Murgh Badshahi, which has succulent chicken on the bone with a mouth-watering spice that was just right - hot, but not enough to ruin the flavour. Absolutely brilliant, one of the best restaurants in Ipswich and certainly the best Indian.

Visited zaika for a family meal, well what can i say the food was lovely, the portion size was good and great value. The staff are friendly and helpful. This was a tale of two parts. My wife's lamb Ceylon was very tasty with very succulent meat, My chicken jalfrezi was hot but with little taste, although again the chicken was lovely and not dry, which I find is a problem in a lot of restaurants.

Loved this takeaway - the best in Ipswich in my opinion. Sadly after some years as a customer, they now inform me I live too far for them to deliver to without a charge. I wish them well and would certainly use them if I could.

Dined here on business with colleagues, small yet comfortable restaurant with a good ambience. A good and varied menu choice reasonably priced and really good quality food, a real stand out was the excellent service, friendly and very efficient. I go to a lot of Indian restaurants and this is right up there, well recommended.

I recently visited Zaika with my wife and a friend before visiting The Regent Theatre. The food was probably the best I have eaten in an Indian restaurant. Prawn puree for starter followed by Chicken Dopiaza and the best cheese naan I've ever had, not greasy, just really tasty. We told them we had a show to see and the service was quick and we were finished at the right time to go to the show. The costs for starters, main with rice and a drink was under £20 each, great value considering the quality. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will visit again when in Ipswich.

Since the first time we came to Zaika we have never eaten Indian food anywhere else despite the 50 mile round trip it takes to get here. We are never disappointed and the food is always excellent which is why we continue to make the journey.

Went here last night with some girlfriends. The staff were so welcoming on arrival and were attentive all night, even though the restaurant was full and several tables cleared and relaid with more customers. The food was excellent and I would thoroughly recommend. I had the chicken tikka which came with a lovely salad and sides of chutney and raita. Thank you so much. We will be back.
