Terrible service and food..Will never return. Booked a table for 15 people for a birthday party to be told on arrival we couldn't all sit together. Then we all wanted to pay as we ordered but they wouldn't let us so at the end tried charging us more ..the rice I ordered came after I'd eaten my meal ..overall appalling and we were the only ones in the place

The service in this restaurant is deplorable the way the owner spoke to us and his staff is nothing short of rude, he needs lessons in manners and we wouldn't go again if he paid us

The owner needs to go on a customer care course , very rude little man. He rushed everything got an order wrong.

Excellent midweek takeaway, the food was delicious, piping hot and the delivery arrived promptly, would recommend!

Quite large group of us went their for a meal. The food we ordered was OK, but they gave one of us in our group something that they didn't order. When my friend said that he'd been given the wrong meal they just ignored him, and didn't try to rectify their mistake. When it came to paying the bill we were all very polite but said we'd pay for everything except the meal they'd given my friend as he didn't order it. The owner was really rude and made no attempt to apologise or rectify the problem. He then told us we weren't welcome there anymore (because they made a mistake and were rude to us?!) After looking at other reviews I've seen other people complain about the owner there. Avoid this place like the plague.

Welcome return to this Restaurant. Very good range of Food on the Menu. Dishes taste good and are well-presented. Service is friendly and helpful. I will certainly return.

What’s happened to the old staff members ? We have been coming to this restaurant for years and over the last few months the service has gone from bad to worse ! Hurrying you to your table , freezing cold restaurant with no heating on and really rude aggressive mannered staff . Whilst we are we was watched over aggressively, empty plates snatched immediately after eating out last mouth ful and at one point the waiter reached over the table whilst we was eating tipped some of my partners sauce onto her plate in order to take the bowl away , we was so shocked actually couldn’t believe our eyes! Last time we came we tipped the waiter £10 he never even said thankyou ! Our last visit was £136 and this time £168 , not exactly cheap meals that required such poor service. As soon as we had finished the waiter rushed over and gave us our bill and never said thankyou for our custom at all , really shocking , unwelcoming service and we will definitely consider going somewhere else next time very disappointed!

I have been using Zahid’s for nearly 20 years and never had anything that wasn’t exceptional in all that time, that’s why it was our go to Indian. It’s probably nearly a year since our last visit, but I have to say that this will probably be our last time. I think it must have new owners as I didn’t recognise anyone in the place. The staff who used to run it were great, especially Shipon who worked the bar and reception area downstairs. He was one of the nicest people you could ever meet and always made you feel welcome. I originally booked for 6:15 for a party of 7 people, but received a phone call a few days before asking if could move our booking to 6pm as they had a large party in at 8pm and needed the table back. No problem I thought, 2 hours is more than enough time. As soon as we arrived we were immediately shepherded upstairs, no time for a drink while looking at the menu like the old days. They had only set the table for 6 people and when we queried it, it genuinely seemed like an inconvenience for them to move a table and make it a 7, despite us being the only people in the whole upstairs section. We ordered and the food came out quickly. The popadoms were disappointing, they tasted like they had been sat for a long time and were slightly soft. They also had a taste like the oil they were fried in was a bit old. I honestly couldn’t fault the rest of the food we ordered as the mains, it was fairly good, just not as good as it was previously. It certainly wouldn’t make me travel 5 miles to go here like I did before. The worst thing of all though was how rushed everything was, it was certainly not a relaxing experience. From arriving to leaving we were 50 minutes in total. The icing on the cake was when the waiter came to us at the end and apologised for the rush as they had another party coming in. We were the only people in the upstairs section! On the phone I was told we had 2 hours and were rushed out in less than an hour, so I assume they had squeezed another booking in at 7pm as well. It feels wrong criticising a restaurant with current climate being as it is, but this was a very poor experience overall, made worse by knowing how this place used to be. Really, really disappointing.

My Wife and I made a welcome return visit to Zahid early on a Friday evening. As we were out and about , we really wanted a non fussy meal. Service was prompt , friendly and efficient. We had drinks followed by Papadoms and garnishes. No Fish dish any longer on the Menu , so my Wife had a mixed Vegetable Curry with Chilli and coriander. I had a similar dish with Chicken. We shared a Tarka Dall , a Vegetable Rice and a Garlic and Keema Nan. Portions were fresh and very tasty. The Food was well-presented and was duly consumed. The Restaurant is cosy with a friendly ambiance and it is deservedly well-patronised. A really enjoyable Meal that will prompt a speedy return !

Very poor 45 minutes for a takeaway and the restaurant blamed it on the drive who when he arrived had no clue of the area. When shipon was there he knew the area and his customers

Called here last night . It was quiet but maybe this had something to do with the jubilee . Really friendly staff and food was lovely . Good value and a good experience … would definitely recommend

Food was served hot (a plus point) but was lacking in flavour and substance. Watery curry, and substantially under-spiced. Disappointing. Ok if you’re nearby and want a curry, but as a destination for a good Indian meal, there’s little to recommend.

I have been using this restaurant and takeaway for nineteen years, never went anywhere else. The new owners that took this place over took the extraordinary decision to get rid of the front of house man Shipon, one of the nicest guys you could wish to meet and a major asset and attraction at this business. Two weeks ago I called to collect my regular order and was overcharged. I had the menu, the receipt and pointed the error out. The new owner was in complete denial advising they no longer made that dish’ then, ‘ I had ordered something different’ and finally, ‘the till had been uploaded with the new prices but not the menus’ Absolutely no question of a mistake and refund. The new owner clearly has a new chef, the food was stodgy and salty. The place is quiet, clearly changes are having an impact and it shows, it’s an art to take over a successful business and develop it, something they haven’t mastered here regrettably. RIP Zahid, never again.

Ordered a takeaway for my wife and myself. Poppadoms, pickle tray then Lamb Balti and Lamb Pathia with pilau rice and nan bread. Both main dishes had little Lamb but masses of onions. First time I've ever had an Onion Balti. Really poor. It's back to the Gulab.

Since this restaurant was taken over from the previous owner this really has gone by from bad to worse…we have been going here for the last 20 years never any problems service was impeccable along with the food.. unfortunately the current owner has no regard...

We had dinner at this excellent restaurant during a recent visit to Chesterfield. The food was delicious with friendly and efficient service. The price of the meal was very reasonable given the quality of the food and service.

Full of flavour, delicious food and delivered 3 mins early. The karia chicken was very good. Highly recommended.

Based on the recent reviews we wouldn’t have visited this restaurant but by chance we did. So pleased. Food and service was excellent. Very reasonable prices; bill for 4 including drinks was £65.

Not even worth 1 star! It’s the first time we’ve tried this Indian, just fancied the classic chicken tikka masala, mushroom rice, peshwari nan and chips. How hard can it be?! 1. Collected our order, got home to find we had not been given chips...

Been here on numerous occasions as the food is always great however we walked out tonight before we even got to the table as the atmosphere and reception was terrible.

I have not eaten at this Restaurant for several years , but we returned there last Weekend and really enjoyed the experience. We had not booked , but we were promptly seated. The Restaurant décor and ambiance are both comfortable and pleasant and the Service was friendly and efficient. We had a range of Starters , which were very good. Chicken Chat and Vegetable Pakora were excellent. A variety of Main Courses followed , all with Rice , Vegetable Sides and Nan Breads. Not able to remember all dishes , but I had Chicken with Chilli and Coriander and my Wife had a Prawn Bhuna. We all had drinks with the Meal and we were all very pleased with the overall quality. Prices were very reasonable. We will certainly return.

Great Indian in Chesterfield. Staff are really friendly and extremely helpful if you need some advice on trying something 'new to you' the food is always excellent and the portions are big. Never tried a dessert as never had enough space!

Iv visited preciously and swore to go back as it was so good. We weren't disappointed. Staff are friendly and welcoming and create a relaxed atmosphere. Service cycle is good. Food is top notch and reasonably priced. £20 per head for poppadoms, starters, mains, rice and nann with 2 rounds of drinks. Food is well presented and good portion size. Good to see a few different dishes on the menu as well as what you would expect. Would recommend.

After looking at a review of this restaurant I had to try. Food was great, hot and served perfectly. Staff were attentive and obliging. What a brilliant meal. Cant agree with the last report of cold food. Cracking staff and food. Well worth a visit.

went out for dinner with a colleague while working away from home in Chesterfield and came across this place. It looks tiny from outside but there is a decent restaurant area upstairs. Right from the start the staff were very friendly and efficient. We sat downstairs with a Cobra while we looked through the menu, placed our order and were then shown to a table upstairs. A couple of poppodims later our meals arrived and I have never had a better curry. Quite possibly the best curry I’ve ever had. I’m glad we didn’t have a starter as the portions were generous as well as delicious ! We left very happy and very full. I’m looking forward to going back there already.

We ate here with friends on a Friday evening, with a table booked for 7.30pm. On arrival, the small downstairs area was packed with people waiting to collect takeaway orders and we we therefore quickly ushered upstairs to our table. Although our order was taken quite quickly, we then had a 40 minute wait before our starters arrived, during which time we saw countless takeaways being brought out of the kitchen. When the food did arrive, it was very good and with the place having calmed down a bit, our mains weren't unduly delayed. Service was all a bit tense to start with but became more attentive (and apologetic to be fair) once they were able to concentrate more on the restaurant diners rather than servicing the takeaway counter. I'm sure we'll visit here again in the future but on this experience, it would be nice if there was a more balanced approach given to both takeaway and restaurant customers to avoid the sort of delay we endured on this occasion.

Always friendly and polite , we’ve been many times to the restaurant and always satisfied with the quality and standard of the food served . Never experienced cold food or had any complaint about the service. Very often we don’t know what to order so ask for recommendation or a surprise and are never disappointed .

It was our first visit to Zahid and have to say it will definitely not be the last, all the staff are very welcoming, I was surprised at just how big it was up stairs, all the tables are well spaced not crammed in the lighting is perfect and the food was absolutely first class, Tandoori King Prawn starter was perfect in fact all the dishes were cooked to perfection, they also have a cracking wine list, I can highly recommend the Chablis premier cru.

Would definitely recommend this restaurant, I'm a very fussy eater, I explained to the guy serving us what sort of thing I like, he said leave it with me. I was a little sceptical, however i then received the best Indian food I've ever tasted.

Had a takeaway tonight after eating in this restaurant many times, food was tasteless, swimming in oil and inedible Ordered 3 different main meals but 2 appeared to be the same All went in the bin and won’t be returning

Tried all the Indian restaurants in Chesterfield, and Zahid’s is one of the best, if not the best. Balti dishes exceptional.

We have had takeaway from here multiple times and its always good but I would highly recommend going in for a sit down meal instead if you can as it is even better! The staff have always been attentive and helpful but on occasion I have found one of them can be a little rude, which may be why there are a few negative reviews recently. Don't let that put you off, as soon as you are polite he soon cheers up and its worth bearing through just for the amazing food. I used to be a korma/tikka masala girl but I have been converted by their Biriyani, definitely a must try.

I went to ths establishment a few months ago with my wife and was apsoultley appualed by how rude the satff and management are. We didnt get our Mains for over an hour after our starters and they both came out cold. I complained and was simply told to take it up with somebody else. The manager also sniggered at us as we were leaving. Disgusting service, wont be going again and recomend everyone else avoid like the plague.

This is my fave indian restaurant. The food is amazing and so are the staff and surroundings. I have also used these for take away services and never had a any cause for complaints.

Reviewed David's in August because it was superb. Been a couple of times since and the service is deteriorating. Last night was appalling. The food was average but the service was slow. The table uncleared for ages. Cutlery thrown on the table rather than placed. Never came to ask for coffee and always served the men first. Terrible. Will give it a miss for a few months.

Came here with my family recently to celebrate a couple of milestone birthdays in our family and as always, really enjoyed it.

I have eaten here many times over the years but was really disappointed on my last visit. There appears to have been a significant change in staff with the new ones being very inexperienced. On arrival it was difficult to get in the place as downstairs was full of people waiting for takeaways which was consuming all the staff's attention. The food wasn't bad but when the service is so poor and disorganised then the quality of the occasion plummets.

I have eaten here many times over quite a few years now and the good food has always been matched by the quality of the service. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case on our latest visit with friends. We were shown to our table on time but then neglected for a while until someone eventually came over to take our order.

I have the vegetable korma, its the most beautiful, enjoyable Indian food i have ever tasted. I have to limit my starter so i can eat all of the main!Service on the whole is pretty good.

We are regulars and have always enjoyed the food and welcome, however the last two visits the curry has been very hot, also lewd chit chat with pictures on mobile phones with regulars and staff is starting to wear a little thin, not professional around other customers.May have to start and look elsewhere which would be a shame.

Four of us went here for a birthday celebration. We'd tried to call them a couple of times and their phone manner left a lot to be desired. Then when we arrived we were asked to sit downstairs until our table was ready and I was getting worried about what the meal would be like ... but I needn't have worried. The meal was delicious and the staff were very good. We will definitely be back.

I have now been to every Indian restaurant in Chesterfield town centre area and I can confidently say that Zahids is the best by far.The service is second to none, the restaurant is extremely clean and tidy and the food is absolutely divine.

The only down side to this Indian is that you can't have it delivered! So we ordered a take away for collection and as usual was not let down. Good Authentic Indian cuisine always hot even when taking home. Would highly recommend for eating in the restaurant or taking out.

Excellent Indian food with a twist and own unique style / taste to traditional Indian food you will have previously tried before . Is good for both eat in and socializing or to take away eat at home or with friends. The owner Shipon is good with food recommendations if you share tastes you enjoy to experiment and try new dishes..

Disappointing vegetarian meal which consisted mostly of potato with only a very small amount of peas, carrot and sweet corn as the other vegetable components. I would not visit here again.

Went last Saturday to celebrate my parents wedding anniversary and had a great time. We all had poppadoms and starters, including onion bhaji and delicious chicken chat followed by lamb mirchi roshun, aloo paneer bhuna, chicken tikka and chicken tikka masala with the usual accompaniements of rice and naan bread. Service excellent as usual from the friendly staff, this is our Indian restaurant of choice!Highly recommend.

We come to zahid often. It's always a good night out. The food is excellent and the staff are so nice and thoughtful. Would recommend this place to anyone .

My wife and I ate dinner here with another couple on a Friday evening. We booked for 7.30, received a warm greeting on arrival and enjoyed a lovely Indian meal. The quality of the food is superb and is good value for money. Also the house wine at £3 a glass takes some beating. It remains our favourite Indian restaurant in our home town albeit there are a few others of a high standard as well.

We ate here with friends early on Friday evening and enjoyed a very nice meal, served by friendly attentive staff. The jalfrezi was particularly good - served hot, both spice and temperature wise. By the time we left, the restaurant was quite busy so probably advisable to book in advance at weekends.

Love coming here - the food is always AMAZING! The onion bahjis are to die for!! Food just general really really good and Shipon the waiter will make you feel like family.

Went here a couple of weeks ago to take Dad for his birthday (his request!) and really enjoyed it once again. Lovely friendly staff and excellent choice of curries (although I think we all had our "usual"!). You can't beat their onion bhajis to start and the aloo paneer bhuna is consistently brilliant and always hits the spot. Hubby enjoys the lamb murgi roshun as I don't like lamb so he doesn't get to eat it unless he has it when we're out. Dad had the tandoori mixed grill which looked amazing and he said it was lovely. It's very reasonable price wise too, definitely recommend.

Went to Zahids for a takeout and the food was fabulous and good value for money.I always go here for Indian food and always get good service and good food. Just outside Chesterfield on Chatsworth road it is the place to be for Indian food and I have eaten in there too and it is fabulous too, thank you.

One of my favourite Indian restaurants, staff always friendly and the food is top quThe chicken chat is AMAZING. My 14 year old son loves eating here, just wish they had tables down stairs though - my daughter is in a wheelchair so we cant eat in with her... but the takeaway is still brilliant

We have been here a couple of times lately. Introduced to us by friends recommendations. We have found the food tasty without the harsh food colourings seen in many indian dishes. You are not left with terrible wind all night! The service is very good and the waiters are friendly. The decor is not brilliant, but the restaurant has a good hygiene rating and the food is good. I would recommend to friends and visit with friends or as a couple.

Very good food ,excellent service ,really pleased in evening with my friends and family friend . Fish pakora and fish Bhuna really fantastic taste and with boiled rice and plain bread . In last sweet of gulabjam and gajar halwa special after heavy meal.

We took friends to this restaurant on Saturday night, why I don't know. We sat downstairs and picked our appetiser of popadoms and pickles also starters, to be then shown upstairs 20 minutes later. We were asked if we wanted our starters to come with the popadoms which we did say no. We wanted them to follow the appetisers. Our appetisers came and we had some wine sat chatting, around a hour later our main meals came oh but also our starters, what can I say, you don't have your soup with your roast beef at the same time.We complained at this to the manager who I must add was the most obnoxious man I have ever met, he just stood there and stared at me..We made the best of the meal, we did go down afterwards and complained but what a waste of breath.We won't be going back in a hurry. Such a shame.

Avoid like the plague! I visited here as part of 10 strong group for a birthday. To cut a long story short; This was the worst Indian food I've ever tasted. And that's just not my opinion. Everyone in the group was severely disappointed. The Korma and the Tikka Masala were like slop. The owners of this restaurant should be ashamed to serve such rubbish. The Shabzi that I had was also terrible. I can't believe how annoyed I am at having to endure such swill. Not only that, but one of the waiters thought that shouting at us was an acceptable form of communication. Any of my readers will know I love a curry and give out praise to those that deserve it so I don't think I'm being unreasonable. Avoid!

Used this restaurant about 6 years ago and haven't stopped going back since. Staff always pleasant and helpful. Food is always hot when it arrive at your table and it's always consistently good never had a bad meal. They do takeaways but don't deliver but once you have tasted the food you will be prepared to drive and pick it up yourself. I have a 20 min drive and have a takeaway at least once a week sometimes twice a week. Try it you won't be disappointed

Coming to Chesterfield for the first time, we were very lucky to find Zahids for a fantastic opportunity to taste ethnic middle asian food. The host Rashid made our party of four very welcome and made some serving suggestions which we took up. The quality of food and service was top notch and thoroughly recommend. Visited with a group of friends. Staff made us very welcome and didn't rush us at all when either ordering or serving. Very helpful when explaining dish and to individuals choice. Food was fabulous.

Very bad experience at this restaurant, all the food was cooked very poorly, even the popadoms were soft, complained to the waiter who just shrugged his shoulders and did nothing. If they could not get the popadoms right then I feared for the rest of the meal and sure enough it went from bad to worse! The onion bhaji's were no better soft on the outside and raw in the centre, the curry could best be described as onion stew, with very little meat and bland, the rice and nan arrived cold. Needless to say I will not be returning!

I went for a re-visit last midweek with my 'Tuesday Club,' an informal gathering of like-minded gentleman (ie we like football, curry and beer). Whilst it offers none of the first and only a small selection of the latter it's important that it doesn't fail on the other. Here it excelled again. Friendly service - a beer downstairs and ordering before ascending the stairs to curry heaven. Four of us ordered so much (not glutinously) that we required an auxiliary table to accommodate the food. Luckily it was quiet as you'd expect. We shared four dishes, all very top notch, the Jalfrezi being a touch hotter than I'd like personally and there was barely a scrap left with breads, side dishes and rice all being demolished to ease the passage of the curries. Cost us £100 with a little bit of a tip - so twenty-five nicker each which included a couple of pints apiece. Tuesday Club will be back.

Fantastic! Went into zahid's slightly off the cuff on the way out for a few drinks with the lads and I'm glad we did. It's the first time in there but others in our party are regulars.I ordered a Chicken Methi tandoori and it was amazing with just enough kick to it and some plane rice which was just the ticket. Have visited twice this month (September) now and it's always consistently excellent. We always have the same dishes when we go as we both massively enjoy them. I have the aloo paneer bhuna (potato and cheese medium curry) and even as a non-veggie, I would highly recommend it! Flavoursome and satisfying all at once, I have it with the egg I rice which is also delicious. Hubby has the lamb murchi roshun which he adores, and would also recommend. Very friendly staff, excellent service and eager to please, if you fancy a curry get yourself down there!

We eat here several times a year, the food is always of a high standard and the best in the area...in our humble opinion! Last time we dined the Waiter remembered the previous meal we'd ordered!

We are quite surprised at reading some of the reviews . Especially the ones stating the staff are sullen. We have been going to Zahids for many years and apart from when we are away we go every two weeks. We have visited Indian restaurants in the uk and abroad and have been unable to find any one that compares to the excellent high quality of food and service and friendly staff and atmosphere which is always consistent at Zahid's We would like to thank the owners and all the staff including the people behind the scenes for making our Saturday evenings so enjoyable The food is always excellant

Walked up on the off-chance they'd feed us as we were going that anyway and they were keen to oblige. Welcomed in, quick and attentive service and top notch food too. No grumbles whatsoever - I will be back.

I love this place. They always provide good service and excellent food. I think the quality of ingredients is good and always tastes lovely. The staff are friendly and the food is reasonably priced. We have recently moved house and always return to this Indian for a takeaway as a treat.

May as well sipped on a bottle of oil my vegetarian dish was that greasy. The rice was also oily and you could visibly see the oil running off the food and pooling at the bottom of each dish. I'm a big eater and I left most of this meal which was vegetable jalfrezi as too oily to cope with. Pickle tray has a poor selection pickles. Drinks pricey. Staff friendly but be warned! Odd set up of attempting get you spend more money by seating you downstairs with a menu then offering drinks. You then choose your meal before going up to your table. Not for me I'm afraid!

Good service and the food isn't too greasy. Drinks a bit pricey considering it's a curry house out of town but food made up for it
