Clasificados!

Sadly for this restaurant, it's about a ten minute walk from Lime St and away from the nightlife. It is situated on a pretty run down road but work is clearly being done to upgrade the area. We were more than happy to take the walk and were pleasantly surprised at this attractive restaurant. The staff greeted us warmly and even suggested a table away from a family of 12 who may have made a noise: they didn't. The prices are very reasonable (maximum main course for a single diner being about £16) and the menu, for meat-eaters at least, is large and varied enough for a good meal. However, for my vegetarian partner we found the options limited, pretty much just a regular meal with the meat removed. Fortunately, my wife will eat sea food if the vegetarian option isn't good. My starter was a little bland but not a disaster and my wife's calamari was fine but would have benefitted from a wedge of lemon. My main course of lamb chops and a skewer of lamb filet was delicious (6 chops too.) My wife had a seafood mixed grill which she faced with mixed feelings. She was very happy with the salmon and prawns but the sea bass came completely whole; on the bone, head, tail, fins etc. She did accept that this was a Persian restaurant and that's how it would be served in the Middle East but this did nothing to appease her. Wine choice is limited but the bottled beer was a very good price (£2.50.) The staff were extremely pleasant and constantly on hand. My only gripe would be that the waitress was a bit too keen on getting orders. She was back within about a minute of being seated to take our drinks order and then also wanted our starters order too. When she brought the drink she was clearly ready for our mains order. Overall, I really enjoyed eating here but my wife less so which means we're unlikely to return. I'd definitely give it at least three and a half to four stars, my wife probably two and a half to three.

We all chose a variety of different dishes and they were all great! We did not expect to be able to eat so much just after Christmas, but it was just too good to leave! Pity about the card machine not working, but the reasonable prices meant we did not have to find a cash machine.

We've been going to this restaurant for over a year now and we love it. Thought I should write a review about it. The food is amazing, absolutely delicious every single time. We've tried most of the menu and they are all fantastic, starters and mains. Always fresh prepared. The best chicken and lamb kebab ever. The best lame chop ever. Meat is so tender, juicy, full of flavor. You can tell it cooks over the charcoal. The bread is freshly made, I know it's just a bread but oh my it is soooo good. Even the rice is full of flavor, you could eat it just on its own. The place is always quiet every time we are there, but we don't mind at all. The owner and the staff are very polite and friendly. The price is very very reasonable too. We love this place, highly recommended. Hope you will like it too.

This was fairly close to our hotel so we walked. I don't know Liverpool and the area seemed a bit dodgy by night but when we went by the next morning we realised how close it was to the University. The place is fairly simply decorated and there is nothing fancy but we really liked the food. Some very tasty starters including a lovely aubergine with yoghurt and absolutely delicious light breads. For mains we had a lamb dish, again with aubergine, with beautifully tender pieces of meat. The lamb kebab was also great and the rice beautifully fluffy and light. No booze served here but we enjoyed the fresh lemonade. They prefer cash to a card. Good place to go for something different and judged on our visit, obviously very popular with Liverpool's Iranian community

Maybe it was our own fault - going to a Persian restaurant when we don't eat meat, but we had looked at the menu online and there were a number of dishes with (v) next to them.It all started so well, we had starters of Dolme (delicious stuffed vine leaves) and the equally delicious Kaske-E-Baderjan (an aubergine-based meal, served with flat bread). There was only the one red wine, Shiraz, which was O.K., but certainly nothing to rave about.Unfortunately it turned out that the vegetarian mains were basically meat dishes, with the meat removed. From memory, I think that there were just three such dishes, and our waiter suggested avoiding one of them if we weren't having meat!We both went for Ghormeh Sabzi which, without the meat, seemed to be a pureed mixture of fennel, leek, and, possibly aubergine. It was served with a large portion of boiled rice. Although advertised as having a variety of herbs, it was one of the most bland dishes we have ever had. It did just feel like we were simply refuelling. We ordered deserts, a chocolate cake for me, and ice cream for my wife. The cake was O.K., if a little dry, but my wife's ice cream failed to materialise. So, after a great start, ultimately disappointing. If there had been no vegetarian mains on the menu, we wouldn't have gone, but there has to be more to a vegetarian dish than simply a meat dish with the meat removed.

It's like the sort of place you stumble across, in the middle of nowhere, when you are in an unfamiliar country on holiday. The menu is a mess, half Italian, half middle eastern. No idea how many insalate caprese they have sold, but I doubt it gets into double figures. The wine list consists of 1 bottle of red, 1 white and 1 rose, no choice, that's it. We had the red, it was cheap (£13.00) and perfectly drinkable, as for the food I really enjoyed it. The hummus and aubergine dips with hot bread were very good and the meats perfectly grilled, moist and smokey. Chips and salad are freshly done, which sounds obvious, but how many times have you had them soggy and oily.Portions are bigIf the owners spent a little time they could make the venue match the quality of cooking however if it's well cooked, great value, honest food you are looking for then look no further.

Good menu to chose from: grills, fish, stews etc, but for me it's the starters and sides which bring me back time and again to Middle Eastern cuisine. Very quiet when we visited but that meant that we weren't rushed and could savour every bite. The bread was delicious - thin and slightly crunchy - just the way I like it, and served as a spoon to scoop up the creamy Mast o khiar and the even-more delicious Kashke Bademjoon. A main of Ghormeh Sabzi followed- a herby stew flavoured with dried limes, served with rice. Flavoursome and different, in a good way. It was easy to see that this was a family-run business, whose owners were proud of their culinary heritage and wanted to share it with their guests. The owner/manager offered friendly explanations of the menu items beyond what was written down and we engaged in a comparison of the Persian/Lebanese pronunciation of sumac. With so many dishes to choose from and such a warm and enjoyable experience, we will be returning.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, anytime we ask for anything we get it straight away.Iranian events are amazing! they are for people who like to party and join in no matter what. Loud music, dj, buffet, dancing.. its for people who would like to explore a new culture and join in. It is not for people who want a quiet meal with family or do not like loud music or crowded place. If you dont like that then go on a night that is not iranian event night i suggest.Unfortunately we all know for every place there is always those few people who will complain about every thing no matter what. They do not explain everything fully, twist things around makes others look bad and only explain their own situation. From my own experience with hotels or restaurants if i don't like a place i leave it at that and never go back! Not complain and ask for free things and try to return, if so bad why would you want to return... Will definitely be visiting zagros again soon!

I recently visited this restaurant with my partner and daughter as a farewell meal as my daughter was leaving for America that evening for over 3 months. I actually felt embarrassed that this would be her last memory of Liverpool for a while.I was informed beforehand that there was an Iranian night on but they stated that we would be most welcome. This did not seem to be the case when we got there as we were largely ignored. We also stated beforehand that we needed a table for 6pm and to be eating by 6.30 at the latest as we needed to be out of the restaurant by 7.30pm at the latest as my daughter had a train to catch. Once again we were told that would not be a problem. When we arrived we were seated at a table that looked like it had just been plonked there as an afterthought as it in no way fitted in with the other (empty) tables. After a while the waiter came over to inform us that the food woyld not be out until 7pm which was a lot later that we had been told. He then left without offering us a drink or even a starter which we found a little rude. We did eventually get our food which was nice but there wasnt much variety. It was 2 types of chicken, rice and salad which was a little disappointing. We were also seated by patio doors so that anytime somebody wanted to go out there we had to move out of the way for them while we were eating which was quite annoying especially as there were other tables we could have sat at which were empty. Because of the the delay in the food arriving we had no time for a dessert and overall left there feeling really disappointed and let down. We all felt that as we were not part of the Iranian set we were treated completely differently. I did actually put in a complaint about our treatment and they did state we could have a free glass of wine if we went back. When i stated that we dont drink wine i didnt hear anything else from them. i will not be recommending this restaurant to any of my friends and will most definitley not be returning.

I visited this restaurant before the Everton vs Man Utd match. Although the outside does not look too inviting, the food was delicious. I had Houmous for starter & then lamb skewers for main. Both were excellent & the bread was so lovely. Definitely worth a visit!!!

My son booked a family get together at the restaurant, none of us including my son had ate here before and to be honest in spite of driving pretty regularly up London Road I had never noticed it before. All 9 family members, ages from, 12 years to 'many years' tried starters and mains that were Persian inspired. We were all amazed at the presentation and quality of our various choices. The wide menu features main courses that would suit even the those diners who might resist the pleasure of the chefs excellent Persian creations but my advise is they will be missing something special if they do try one of the Persian dishes

We went on a Tuesday night and it was empty, which was a real shame. The bill for three starters, two mains and beers came to £45 (£25 with a taste card). The aubergine starter was lovely and smooth with a minty flavour and was served with a lovely naan bread. The main was a kebab dish which was cooked well and we ordered it with the rice served with berries which tasted just as I remembered. Would definitely recommend for any type of visitor.

We were staying nearby and dropped in without know anything about the restaurant. It was busy and had a lovely, friendly, lively atmosphere. There was a huge family party of Iranins there, so we thought the food must be authentic - which it was. Stunningly good aubergine starter and naan bread light as a feather. The meat in the main meals was cooked to perfection.Excellent service and good value. Couldn't have asked for more.

2nd visit for this out of the way Persian restaurant. On both occasions it has been very quiet and perhaps lacking the atmosphere in line with the great food it serves. The service however is fantastic, both the waitresses and the owner were polite, attentive and added to dinning experience. The menu combines well known middle eastern dishes with a few Persian specialties. The highlight for me are the dishes from the grill. The Kebabs have been tender and well seasoned on both occasions, served with a generous portion of rice. Zargros is also very reasonably priced. We had 3 courses and a bottle of wine for a little over £25 pp. Definitely worth a visit

With an Iranian side to our family, we love getting out to Persian / Middle Eastern restaurants in the north-west and our meal at Zagros was one of the best we've ever had. The chicken koubideh and the makhsous were absolutely delicious and the service was very attentive from a nice Hungarian lady who kept bringing more warm bread and aubergine dips. We went in September and meant to write a review sooner but not being from Liverpool I managed to forget the name of the restaurant. Will certainly be back, though! Many thanks for a lovely evening.

We were awaiting a bed becoming available at the Royal Liverpool Hospital, so wanted a restaurant that was near-by. The Zagros popped up on the Trip Advisor widget and had good reviews. More importantly it was wheelchair accessible ('accessibility' would be a useful addition to Trip Advisor! The Chinese restaurant that is closer to the hospital has a lot of steps so it is not accessible for wheelchair users.)There were only a couple of other tables occupied although all the other diners appeared to be of 'Middle Eastern' origins, which is a good sign when eating Middle Eastern food! The food was excellent, I had a couple of different lamb skewers. The waitress gave a recommendation to my wife (who isn't a fan of lamb) to have a particular chicken dish. Her dish was served with pomegranate rice which was delightful and unusual. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had a side order of olives & feta cheese. We both had non-alchoholic drinks. The bill was £27. The waitress, who is from Iran was extremely pleasant and friendly. I said to my wife while we were eating, that if we lived in Liverpool we would be regulars in Zagros Persian Restaurant, that's how good it is. If I have any criticism it is that I would have liked to see a larger menu of traditional Iranian food, perhaps a 'specials' board?

The chicken kebabs are great and you get it with salad, chips and a freshly made flat bread...and the price.....only £3.50 (its not on the menu, but at the front of the restaurant). You can also sit outside when the weather is nice for a coffee etc.A must visit.....even if its just for lunch!

I took my wife and two daughters here at 7 on a Wednesday evening and the place was quiet, although it got busier while we were there. The menu had a good choice of classic Persian starters, grills and stews. Starters were £4-5 each, grills between £7 and £12 and the stews about £8 each. Previous experience of Iranian restaurants (mostly in London) has taught me that the best ones alternate their stews, offering a different one each night of the week, as it is not cost effective to cook up the full range every day as each one has a completely separate set of ingredients and too much would go to waste. More on this later. We started with the bademjan e kashk (mashed aubergine with reconstituted whey) which I thought lovely. Their home made flat bread was faultless. For main course our two kids had joojeh (grilled chicken pieces) and my wife had the grilled lamb pieces (I forget what they called it). They were large portions so naturally I had to help out and it was seriously good stuff. In all seriousness you won't get better barbecued meat in Liverpool.I ordered bademjaan for my main course which was described as a stew of aubergine and sour grapes with lamb. Now for my only niggle. What I got was lamb with yellow split peas, dried limes and a couple of pieces of aubergine added in. If you are familiar with Persian cuisine you will know that lamb, split peas and dried lime is only served together in a dish called gheimeh. It doesn't become bademjaan merely by the addition of some softened aubergine. Anyway I don't want to go on about it. My only problem was I thought they'd got my order wrong, although the chef didn't agree. What the hell, it was delicious. Maybe they could avoid the need for shortcuts by only doing one stew per night - be a good way of getting punters to go back on different days of the week!

Ignore the bad reviews; although this place looks like a late night snot-gobbler it's far from it!I ordered a lamb Qozy and the meal consisted of:A bowl of good dal soupTwo huge pieces of meltingly tender slow-cooked lamb which just fell off the boneA mountain of rich, buttery Byriani style rice (you can have plain rice if you prefer) A bowl of aubergine stew and a bowl of potatoes, both excellentA plate of saladA bottle of water.... All for 8 quid. We also had a huge pile of char grilled, marinated chicken wings - some of the best I've had - as well as some delicious, light, freshly baked naan bread. My companions all had 'half size' kofta; the half portion is 2 enormous skewers served on the same brilliant bread with salad. I would defy anyone to eat a 'full' portion. The flavours are Kurdish not Turkish so don't expect your average kebab. The chicken is flavoured with sumac which is zingy and citrussy and I suspect that's why one of the reviewers didn't like it. Go with an open mind and you'll love it - and show me somewhere else you can stuff your face with great food for £8!
