Yuvraaj in Sunderland

Without a doubt the best Indian restaurant in the region. The food is outstanding and aswell as traditional dishes they have an extensive range of contemporary and chef specials. What also makes a huge difference is how friendly and attentive the staff are. They are so welcoming and nothing is an issue. They made our little boy’s 8th birthday tonight so special it’s restaurants like this where you can understand why they have so many regular customers and why you have to book in advance. It’s a must if you haven’t visited already!

Never been before, but saw the good reviews. Had a great night, food was amazing, every one agreed. Staff were lovely, and after issues with pre booked taxis, said if we came back would book taxis for us Will be returning

Came for pre theatre dinner. Service was great and food outstanding! And only £70 for 2 alcoholic drinks. I starter and 2 mains, rice and 2 naans would 100% return

Wanted to experience as never been before. Worst experience I’ve had of any restaurant I’ve been in. Booked well in advance and waited nearly half an hour in a cramped reception area. First 2 Cobras we were served with Lime in them. Can honestly say the food was average. The dining area is cramped and very dated. I half expected to see Ant and Dec pop out at the end of the meal. As for the price. Definitely not worth that amount of money for 2. The waiters serving were very apologetic and to have someone at the end once we had paid the bill to keep on apologising and asking if we would return topped it off.

I continue to sing the praises of Monie and his staff - I was therefore delighted to see that they’ve won the Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year at Nations Curry Awards 2024 - well done, congratulations to you all

I arrived early in the evening just as they opened and was welcomed and taken to a very nice dining area. I ordered my food and the place began to build up with eager hungry customers and the atmosphere was lovely, especially as I was dining alone as I was in Sunderland for business. I travel the country and like to sample different options when eating in an Indian restaurant. This one is by far the best I have experienced to date and the food is reasonably priced for the delicious food they serve. I tried one of the signature dishes KHOS KHANA MURGH which was basically a full meal on one plate I had beautiful vegetables a mushroom rice and chicken cooked to my specifications with regards spice levels. This restaurant easily accessible and with parking I the centre of Sunderland is a real find and when I am up here for business next I will be making a beeline to eat here again. Thank you

Went straight to the main course and had chicken methi and lamb Lucknow . Both were delicious ... the lamb was lovely and tender.... great service with on site parking. Will definitely go back.

Two of us ate here last week. Staff were extremely busy but were polite and friendly.Both my partner and I found the food quite bland. He had the sheek kebab and said that there was no spice. I had the vegetarian treat which i must say looked amazing, there was two types of bhaji and a tikka coloured paneer slice but again it all tasted very plain. The main course portion size was on the small side both of us felt. We decided to try somewhere different for a change but will be sticking to Moti Raj.

Dined at yuvraaj last night, as always the food was superb, the restaurant was full to the brim, the waiting staff were flat out but still provided excellent service, taking time to ensure we had everything we needed. We were unable to get a taxi to take us home so looked like we were walking, to my amazement one of the waiters came out and offered us a ride home in his car, we greatly appreciated that, now thats what you call outstanding service.Thank you

Wow, what can I say? Last night we had the most delicious meal at Yuvraaj Indian restaurant. The food was sensational (as always) & Moni & his lads were perfect hosts for us. Attentive staff & a relaxed atmosphere made for a perfect midweek meal. No wonder you’re rated the best Indian restaurant in Sunderland. I’ve added a few pics of the food which included Grilled King Prawns, Goan Fish, Lamb Karai, Hari Mirch Gusth with tikka chicken, Lamb Dansak & Prawns on Puri. Sundries were great too especially the Peshwari naan bread. If you’ve never tried Yuvraaj Restaurant before, get yourself along to Douro Terrace, you won’t be disappointed.

Delicious meal; beautifully cooked. If you like a good Indian/Bangladeshi meal then look no further than this delightful restaurant. The staff are attentive but not intrusive and the baby-faced owner is an absolute delight. Well worth a visit.

If you want gluten free just ask, they can tell you all the dishes, probably quicker to say what’s not gf. Staff are great, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.Food is gorgeous, I’ve been here loads of times and had various dishes and all have been excellent. Aspall cider in bottles as well.

Visited with friends and we all had an excellent night.Very good menu, two of the party are vegetarian but there was plenty of choice. Very good service and like it here because we can actually talk and hear each other without shouting all night ! Perhaps it's an age thing but we have been to some good restaurants but won't return as we can't hear ourselves think. This restaurant may not be as " trendy " as some but if you want excellent food, good service in a lovely place , book a table, you will not be disappointed.

i have visited Yuvraaj regularly over the last few years with different groups of friends and family but only just got round to doing a review.yuvraaj one is my local favourite restaurant, the staff are friendly and cant do enough for you, the food is beautiful, the best nans i have tasted, i can't really fault the place, i have tried every Indian restaurants in and around the Sunderland area over the years but this is number one.

Food was nice but the portion was tiny was more like a kids meal than a main meal. Wasn't worth the money for the size of the portions but food was nice

The owner Moni greeted us like old friends - we'd been once before! The enthusiasm he has for the food is infectious, he can tell you all about the recipes. The food itself is fantastic. From start to finish, this place is fantastic. My friend and I visited from Newcastle and wanted to go for an Indian, as we regularly visit different Indian restaurants around Newcastle. On entry, we were welcomed and asked to sit in the very nicely decorated waiting area for our table, as we were early. Menu is very large and vast. There is so much choice, more than other Indian restaurants I have been to. The atmosphere was superb, and the ambience and décor was really nice and very pleasant to sit in.The food was excellent. No complains. We both ordered poppodums/pickle tray and we both had a Madras with rice and naan bread. All was excellent. Everything was piping hot and can't fault it really. The thing that made this restaurant stand out really was the service. The staff can't do more for you. At the end of out meal they apologised for our extra wait, all of 2 minutes. They were attentive, but not too attentive; we never had to "chase" anyone down. The service was very personal. It was just great. Also, you get After Eights. Lovely touch.I would absolutely recommend Yuvraaj and I'd go as far to say I would travel from Newcastle to Sunderland just to come here for dinner. Excellent restaurant and deserves 5 stars. Tea time treat for a family of 3.There are many good Indian restaurants in Sunderland so it's hard to rank them on food alone. The food was really good, but what set this place apart was the staff. Really polite and friendly service from a great team of front of house staff. We hadn't been here for a number of years but we now remember what we've been missing Thank you for a superb meal.

You will find it hard to find a better restaurant in Sunderland for Indian food, I have been to this restaurant on many occasions and it never ever disappoints the food is always top notch and always tastes so fresh credit also has to go to the staff who always make you feel so welcome keep up the good work guys

We visited this restaurant while holidaying in the City, after reading the excellent reviews on this site but were sadly disappointed. Food was very good, although we did feel our meal was rather rushed when they served up our main course before we had finished our starters (being a Saturday night the place was very busy but we had booked well in advance.) When it came to ordering dessert we were informed none were available, due to delivery issues so our meal was rather "cut short". Can't say we shall be returning as found several much better Indian restaurants in the area, sorry!

As a family of curry lovers, when visiting Sunderland, we wanted to visit an Indian restaurant. Recommended to us by our guesthouse owners, we went to Yuvraaj.We were not disappointed at all. The restaurant gave us the best curry we have ever had! The variety of dishes on the menu was amazing. The service was brilliant and the bill was reasonable. Can not fault Yuvraaj at all and would definitely revisit.

The food and service are always excellent. Kandahari is an amazing dish as is the Patil. Moni (the owner) always makes the night a special occasion. His staff are all knowledgeable and attentive . Our favourite Indian restaurant .

An excellent dinner with family. 4 of us went to Yuuvraj after booking a table on line only ten minutes before we arrived.When we got to the restaurant we were welcomed and shown to our table straight away. The covid restrictions were really well managed and we were screened off but had plenty of space to be comfortable. Staff were very professional and attentive without being overly present and they very kindly and quickly replaced a drink free of charge and gave my wife towels to dry herself off after she knocked her drink over herself.The food was absolutely perfect and delicious and the service was excellent too.The bill came in at under eighty pounds including drinks and was well worth every penny. I know that we will be back and I would recommend the place to anyone.

During lockdown we prayed this place would re-open to the same standard, how very wrong we were, it’s even better!The guys always make you feel welcome and take time to speak, restrictions have not negatively impacted the business in the slightest.Keep up the hard work.

The food was excellent, after having perused the menu and really not being able to decide we opted for the managers recommendation and honestly so glad we did. The poppadum's & pickle tray were amazing to start with, then the main courses were so special neither of us wanted it to end !No rush from any members of staff, screens all around, covid reg's being covered more than adequately made this a most amazing dining experience and one we shall happily do so again when we return.

Yuvraaj is a beautiful restaurant and very Covid safe. Everyone of the staff we spoke to were so friendly. There is a fantastic choice of food available with a fair few different dishes along with the usual dishes. All of our meals were absolutely delicious! I would definitely recommend this fabulous restaurant!

Me and my Mam went here as our first meal out after the 2nd lockdown and were not disappointed! The food was absolutely stunning! The service was amazing as well, all of the staff were very attentive and welcoming! We will definitely be back in the future!

I visited here with my parents and two children over the summer holidays. I was very apprehensive as my dad is difficult to please. Coming from Birmingham, and being Asian we're used to a good curry. However the staff and management here were brilliant. Listened to what we wanted and served delicious food which we all enjoyed. Tables were well spaced out and felt at ease. I would definately recommend.

Always excellent food and service. I ordered Kandahari but asked for it to be made vindaloo hot , one of the best dishes I have ever tasted. The manager and his staff take time to ensure you have a good experience when eating here and take time to explain the different dishes if required. No concerns over covid with all the precautions the restaurant have in place . We had another brilliant night in our favourite Indian restaurant.

Chicken jalfrezi curry is the best I’ve had in Sunderland. Staff are friendly and go above expectations. I’ll see you again in a few weeks. COVID restrictions in place and amazing service.

My wife and I decided on the Yuvraj for a night out after reading the reviews. It has to be said we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived to a friendly welcome, shown swiftly to our table. Social Distancing was in place. The menu is very extensive with loads of dishes from various parts of India and surrounding area, as well as the traditional favourites. The service was first class, nothing was any trouble. My wife had onion bhaji followed by lamb rogan josh. I went for bhuna prawn on puree followed by the most delicious Lanka Piaza. At the end of the night we were given a choice of any drink we wished, they even booked us a cab. All in all great place, very authentic, first class food and service. We will be back.
