Yr Hen Orsaf in Ceredigion

Visited a few times during our stay Covid restrictions adhered to by very friendly and efficient staff, food and drink as you would expect from this chain edible and drinkable at remarkable prices . Great building lots of space and tables enjoyed each visit.

Staff very helpful, quick to be seated and drinks and food came swiftly. Extremely good value and so organised regarding Covid 19.

Would like to thank Nick and all his team for looking after us while we were in the pub,it’s the first time we have been out since March so was a bit hesitant but everyone was very helpful and did everything to make us feel safe. Keep up your good work.

Good food at good price.. in these strange times the service is brilliant. Met at the door and seated as soon as possible. Track and trace can be done on smartphone or pen/paper. Tables nice and clean. Revised menu with no frills but the food is of good standard. The sirloin steak was lush. Staff polite and friendly. The location is great with bus and train station so close. Short walk to shops. The bonus is they are still doing a discount after the “Eat out to Help out” campaign. Well done.

Whilst on holiday used this location to eat three times. Well organized, great social distancing, hygiene, and track and trace. The staff very well organized and service very quick. Food and drink great value for money.

Very polite staff at entrance and after a small queue shown to our table. Felt very covid safe and all the staff were good. Great meal and great value.

The staff here really seem to have Covid sorted. Working hard to keep the whole place clean but with a friendly and welcoming attitude. Hasn't lost any of it's ambience with table spacing either.

We called in for a meal and was met at the door by a member of staff. We had to fill in a test and taste form then shown to a table. After ordering our meal and drinks on the app. The drinks came followed by our meal. The meal came on a hot plate and tasted very good.

We arrived straight off the train for breakfast as a group of 7, we waited a couple of minutes to be seated and filled in the track and trace details while we waited. The food was good as usual and I'm happy to have another Wetherspoons under my belt.

Had a great family dinner, staff were very accommodating, helpful & polite. Got us a table quickly to prevent queuing for too long. Very impressed

He swore at me and wouldn't serve me for no reason, horrible manners from the manger and wouldn’t treat people who give home money with respect

David the duty manager welcomed us at the door, he was very helpful and attentive despite being busy himself. I had the lasagne which I have to say is the best I have had in a long time. Perfect. Unfortunately my husbands steak wasn’t right and was immediately replaced without any hesitation. The replacement was perfect and David the duty manager brought my husband a complimentary drink for having to wait. Both he and the waitress checked all was ok with our meals. The waitress Brooke was extremely helpful too, nothing was too much both. Can’t fault the service.

It's a Wetherspoons...not expecting 'cordon bleu' and you'll have nothing to complain about. Tasty, simple, decently cooked grub and a nice drink to wash it down. That's all you need isn't it?

Myself and husband visited this Wetherspoons Wednesday the 12th 2020 8:30 evening time at first we thought wow this is a nice place stuff quite friendly keeping the pub clean just what you wanted to see....We were told that the bar closed at 10 o’clock at 9:57 my husband decided to go and fetch him self a pint of John Smiths there was a young lady cleaning up and I start the conversation with her she told me though that my husband had been told at the bar that they closed at 10 o’clock and he’s continued to buy a drink..I thought it was a bit odd so I said to her no way is that right and the law of the land is 20 minutes drinking uptime and at the time I thought this was correct I have since found out that it’s companies discretion but three minutes that’s a joke... she then fetched her Manager over towards which I thought was very intimidating he made it perfectly clear that she was right but would give us five minutes extra to finish our drink which was 10:05 I was quite shocked at this I said my bit I told him he was wrong I told him that I’d worked in the business for 42 years which I wish I’m done now but hay.. I wasn’t very happy at all but told myself leave it..... he then chose for some reason it to come back over to us so I asked him about two chaps that were drinking a 4 pint near the bar he said that they were staff and that they had worked a shift all day 12 hours and they had not had a break I told them I didn’t give a ...about this because to be fair I didn’t we finished our drinks took our glasses back to the bar and you could hear him mimicking me and the Brewery that I work for my husband when he hey hey...I said how bad is that you slagging your customers off can’t you just wait for them to walk out the pub first he did have the good grace to put his head down shocking behaviour.

First meal out since lock down and extremely happy with service, procedure and food. Fantastic helpful gentleman on the door, David, and lovely waiters. All family happy. Thank you

Food was good, typical of weatherspoons. Good value for money and nice decor. Staff are always friendly and a good selection of beer and ciders.

Telephoned on new year's eve to find out if they were open for meals on new year's day and we're told "yes". We arrived just before 2pm after travelling back from the Midlands with my 92 year old mother. The pub was busy and because she is unable to climb onto higher stools we ended up in the outside eating area. Having sourced menus we made our choices but by the time I went to order at the bar customers were leaving having been informed that the place was understaffed and they were not taking food orders. My mother struggles to get about and had been looking forward to a meal out. Weatherspoon's is a brand I would normally trust but this was a terrible start to 2020. This smacks of extremely poor management.

Came here on xmas day as I was travelling to Aberystwyth to collect my son for the Christmas holidays I have rang the pub twice in the run-up to Christmas to confirm the opening hours of the pub as I had a 200 mile drive and wanted something to eat somewhere, they told me the pub would be open from 7:30 until 2 p.m. but when we got there at 10:40 the pub was closed and was only open at 11 a.m. we waited in the car car for the pub to open went in to order some food and I noticed there was no menus on the tables, I spoke to the barman he told me they wasn't serving any food at all, this could have been conveyed on their website, I had no way of having any food and had to travel home hungry not to mention my son was also hungry, very poor communication and changing the hours I was told twice were correct. I would have taken sandwiches or something to eat for the long journey if I had known they wasn't serving food

You can't go wrong with a Wetherspoons and this is no different. Great value food and drinks. Can sometimes be a bit busy but we usually manage to get a table. Friendly atmosphere and definitely one of my favourite pubs to go to in Aber.

Lady in front of me asked if they offered an alternative to draft wine with her meal offer. Was asked quite politely if she would like to see the Manager to which she replied 'yes'.

Popped in for a drink and a bite today but Brrrrrrr it was ruddy freezing with cold air blowing out of the ceiling at the front of the pub. Everyone, I kid you not, had their coats on while eating and drinking, (it should all be on camera). It was about the coldest day of the year, so thought why not nip in for a pint and a warm up, but by golly, it was a bad decision, it was freezing! We Brits really do stand for the worst of conditions, we complain, and just get fobbed off, and it really is not acceptable. Brrrrrr!

Arrived early on Saturday morning and we ordered two breakfasts. The meal was served very quickly and it was very nice indeed. We had two coffees from the machine which we thought was really nice. The staff were very polite and efficient. The seating area was clean and tidy and warm. Could not wish for better. Diolch

This place has definitely gone downhill in the last few years. Carpets,fittings and toilets are pretty dirty .Food was ok but various basic items like gammon,not available even at 2pm.

so i went here and had some drinks and it was a good atmosphere and had a large selection of drinks on sale. pretty standard weatherspoons other than that but definatelty one of the better ones.

Only question, can you add music?? Please? However you guys are the best around for pretty much everything.

We ordered our food and drinks and paid via the Weatherspoons app and they were brought to the table. No waiting, no queuing. Great prices as well.

I recently visited the wetherspoons in Aberystwyth. Whilst waiting for meal which was slow in service I was told by a rude Liverpool guy who was the manager that I couldn't charge my phone because it could strip a staff member so he pulled the charger and abruptly gave it to me. He the moved my bag saying that it was in the way. He was very rude and abrupt. His attitude was well your just a piece of meat and I don't care about customer service. I explained that it was very health and safety mad, to which he replied yeah whatever. His customer service was appalling. I know wetherspoons pays peanuts but they are really getting the lowest of the low judging by my experience at Yr Orsaf wetherspoons in Aberystwyth

Maybe it wasn't the best idea to go in on an early Saturday evening for a meal with my 4 year old daughter; it was very busy, managed to find one empty table which was a high table and chairs straight in front of the bar, as a plus I thought this would be good to keep an eye on my daughter whilst I went to the bar to order. However; there was a fairly big group of loud blokes drinking at the end table, next to them was a table of 4 blokes having after work drinks, our table was on the other end but we then had people stood right up against out table whilst they were queuing to order at the bar, the queue system was confusing (there seemed to be two queues one at each side of the bar), we could see a hatch at the side of the bar (to the kitchen?) which had loads of empty, dirty glasses, staff were all rushing around, I managed to stop one to ask where the menus were (obviously sat on my own with my young daughter) and was just hurriedly told where I could find them, no offer to get them for me so I'm either leaving my 4 year old on her own with all these people around or I take her with me and then risk losing the table. After queuing to order I was then disappointed that a) our first choice of pizza wasn't available as the dough machine was broken, and b) my second choice of gammon was also not available (none left), it was the manager serving me, I commented that they were not doing very well and to his credit he offered steak at the same price as the gammon. As I had a big queue behind me and didn't want to go back to studying the menu I just agreed to the steak and chicken nuggets for my daughter. To be fair, the food came out in a decent time and was ok but overall just not a nice experience.

This used to be a pub we visited often but last couple of times it seems to have gone down a bit. It can get very busy and queues can be a problem. Food sometimes not always as hot as it should be (I guess so much is being plated out it can sit around a while before being taken to tables). Staff always seem rushed off their feet and try their best. Recent menu changes confusing (could not see a Sunday lunch offering) - with this and seeing the queues we went on somewhere else. Perhaps better at quieter times?

I visited for breakfast with my family and ordered a bacon butty with a coffee and a side of hash browns, when I ordered I asked for the bacon crispy. My sandwich came with butter on the bread. When the man came back to the table I stated "could I change this sandwich as I don't like butter and it doesn't say it comes with butter on the menu" he took the sandwich away then came back with a replacement stating "this doesn't have any butter and we will do it this once as bacon butty means butter and if you don't like butter you need to say when ordering" I felt he was rude and abrupt and my complaint wasn't handled in a professional manner as he was trying to argue his point across on how bacon butty means a sandwich with butter. This the manager who i am making the complaint about he was so rude never again will I be visiting this restaurant.

It's a place to kill time while waiting for somewhere else to open.

A fine building, and the usual cheap beer. A very disappointing steak the night we were there, staff didn't seem particularly bothered.

You know what you're getting with Weatherspoons food, pub grub. The prices are fair and there's unlimited coffee/tea refills, it's a winner for a cheap breakfast.

We’re fairly regular visitors to Aberystwyth Wetherspoons and I have left several reviews on this establishment in the past, including favourable ones. Unfortunately, and very disappointingly, our latest visit was our worst Wetherspoons experience that I can recall for a long time. We visited on Tuesday 27th August at around 1.45pm just as the lunchtime rush was finishing. We managed to get table 75 outside, which was crammed full of plates of half eaten food and half finished drinks, and children’s drawings, crayons etc. My partner & Mother went to order at the bar and whilst they were there asked if someone could clear the table. Whilst they were still at the bar, several servers came out, didn’t even look at our table, but looked at another high table in the middle, which was also piled up with empty plates and glasses, but ignored that & went back inside. In fact even after asking at the bar, no one came to clear our table so we reluctantly moved all the dirty plates & glasses to a small table next to us that had become free, as it was making us feel ill having to look at leftover food melting in the afternoon Sun. We also had to wipe the table ourselves.

We come here alot cause we love Aberystwyth and we love a wetherspoon...

Don’t know where to queue for food or drinks bar area disorganised and staff have difficulty serving food. Tables not cleared so customers have to clear tables themselves. More staff needed and need to make clear where to queue at the bar. Staff are doing there best and very friendly. At last ramps have replaced steps where numerous people including my wife have fallen. Why didn’t this get sorted out when the recent refurbishment was done.

I visit at least once a month but due to unfortunate circumstance haven't been for 4 months and found the menu has changed. I always had the triple chicken and always recommended it to friends. However they had taken this of the menu. I, however, decided to try something i used to enjoy which was Tennessee burger (chicken) and it was vile! It tasted watery and was honestly disappointing. They've also stopped the frappes (in summer which i find highly odd).

received my fish and chips, humongous fish, satisfactory chips but a minuscule amount of mushy peas. even my dog would have been disappointed. he would have run away for sure if i'd have shown him them. was also not happy with the face i was greeted with when asking for an extra portion, the cheek!! doesn't sound like an obscenely strange request if you ask me!!! to cut a long story and mocking from my friends short, i got my extra and was overall very happy. would visit again if i'm honest.

waited 50 minutes for 2 cold breakfasts , this is the 3rd weather spoons we have had terrible food in . We have decided to avoid Weatherspoons in future, since they increased their prices there are plenty of small cafes ect offering good value

Big gang of us with kids all had a good meal and a fun visit here. Typical pub fare, reliable, nice and bit place so we found room for many.

I reviewed this place very favourably a year ago, and having heard that it has been refurbished, decided to give it another go. I did not stay to eat or drink (shame, I like the Weatherspoon model, but this has now sunk to the worst of the group experienced by me). Problem areas: toilets filthy (drainy smell with wee odour), floors filthy with food and other rubbish, empty tables filthy presumably waiting for someone to complain before they are cleaned for next guests. Generally feeling that no-one cares, and such staff as could be found looked uninterested. They need to employ someone just to clear tables, this is a bit of a no brainer! Food did not look inviting. Difficult to see exactly what has been refurbed, or where the groups budget for this went. Please, Tim Martin, get a grip - this is constructive criticism. I left and decamped to the Express Cafe across the street, and was pleased with the food etc.

We went on spec for a birthday meal on a Thursday evening and were surprised how busy it was. Good pub grub, great choice of drinks and plenty of 'special offers'. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was good value. Only downside was the smoking area immediately adjacent to the under cover eating area so the smoke drifted across making the 'no smoking' rule in the rest of the site rather a sham. A bonus for train spotters - the covered are is right at the end of the incoming platform!

Ate here, or tried to at least! The 2nd visit I was told they literally had hardly any food in, this was a Wednesday at around 3pm!! The first visit food was good, service quick and place was kept clean. 3rd visit, the food was again good but there seemed to be a lack of staff which left many tables needing clearing, when someone did come to clear them, they spent more time talking about their night out with a colleague than any cleaning!

We called in for lunch with friends I had the Ham and Cheese Pannini when it came it was well presented and tasted good.

Had food here on Sunday with wife and daughter. Good selection on menu and reasonably priced. Ordered gammon eggs and chips. Very tasty indeed.

Love visiting wetherspoons around the country the best value for money and the food is pretty brilliant without a doubt also my favour ite drink is served there which is thatchers cider. My wife also loved it.

Built into part of the train station Yr Hen Orsaf offers the value and variety you expect from a Weatherspoons. Hardly a place for a romantic dinner, or special night out, but a good venue for a drink or good honest food.

Lovely place to eat after a day out. Food could of been a bit warmer though. Other than that we had excellent service. Thank you.

Je vindt in het Verenigd Koninkrijk overal restaurants van Wetherspoon en in het oude stationsgebouw van Aberystwyth zit Yr Hen Orsaf, wat vermoedelijk Het Oude Station betekent. Het is geen haute cuisine maar je kunt er voor een budgetvriendelijke prijs eten en drinken. Ik nam een Welsh Steak and Ale Pie en een pint en betaalde daar nog geen GBP 10,- voor. Het smaakte prima. Je bestelt aan de bar. Drankjes neem je mee, maaltijden worden aan tafel geserveerd maar je moet wel eerst een tafel kiezen want je moet je tafelnummer opgeven. Ik was tevreden.

We use the pub regularly as it’s the best place to get a decent cider. Often eat there too and food is well up to scratch.

We went in to the pub for a change, it was packed but we found a table order are meal and drinks, we thought we would have a wait as it was really busy, but no it was very quick and good value for your money , one of the best Witherspoons we have been very clean and tidy

Pretty good food, everything I saw there up to the usual 'Spoons standard, and the pizza I had was fine. It's not fine dining, it's Wetherspoons, and nothing wrong with that

Took some friends very busy good value for drinks and meals but the queuing system at the bar is annoying great location disappointed the Abbott ale was not available great selection of gin

Visited Yr Hen Orsaf a week or so ago, as a break in my journey to North Wales. I must take this opportunity to compliment and express my thanks to Dairan (apologies if spelt incorrectly) and a colleague for their care and consideration in ensuring my order was dealt with promptly despite the fact that it was particularly busy there at the time. Very nice it was too. Well worth a visit if you are in the area and I will try to call again very soon.. Diolch yn fawr iawn

Couldn't fault service today. Staff friendly and all worked hard clearing tables and serving food. No wait for food and served hot.

Extremely/maybe too busy for the staff who do there upmost,a very badly poured beer on my first by the duty manager. Second much better.

I visited Yr Hen Orsaf twice during Whit week for breakfast. I can thoroughly recommend the breakfast wrap which I had on both visits. Served quickly and very tasty on both occasions. For just a little extra (think it was 80p) you can have a pint of ice cold fruit juice with it. And, it’s the carton type fruit juice that isn’t cheap, so it was very nice and refreshing.

Went for lunch and no burgers. Yes might not be the most healthiest of things, but when you’ve just spent ages with grumpy tired hungry children going through the menu it is a tad annoying. Pizza was burnt and soggy, how? The rest of the food ok. I know it’s not too grade cuisine, but no burgers, come on.

Ever since it has been renovated the service time and space has gone down hill! Even though the staff are doing their very best to accommodate everyone to the best of their abilities, the restaurant is simply understaffed. I feel as though they need to assess their rotas and swap for more staff to be in at not only busy times but others as well.

We ate here twice while in Aberystwyth over Easter. Food as expected, with fast service & as always the app makes ordering easy. Located in a beautiful building with plenty of seating inside and outside. Recommended.

Not impressed today came out with the family for a meal and the chef said we would be able to order in twenty minutes. Still here an hour later not being able to order. This is our worst visit

Good food for reasonable price. Partner felt that bar staff a bit slow in taking our food order. Were quicker taking drink orders only from other customers. Quite busy. Like most Wetherspoon pubs there was no music or TV but I think music at a low volume in the background would have been better than just chatting sounds.

Having visiting again since our last trip here in February last year I am glad to,see it has done the refurbishment as they said and it is a good improvement. Only visiting for a drink before our train and found the usual "Spoons" attentive and friendly service and good drinks Value.

I was travelling home to South Wales from North Wales and had an hour to wait for my connecting bus, so as it was lunchtime and the bus station was right next to Wetherspoons, I popped in here. It was also Mother’s Day, but I hadn’t expected it to be that busy as I wouldn’t have thought that many people would want to go to Wetherspoons for Mother’s Day. However, it was very busy with what seemed to be mainly families out for Mother’s Day and travellers using the bus and train stations going by the cases. I decided to stay anyway as I didn’t have time to traipse around Aberystwyth looking for somewhere to eat. I managed to find a table, even though most were occupied. It was dirty, but I thought that someone would be along soon to clean it. They never did, even though they could see it was dirty when they brought me my drink, and later my food. I used the app to order my food and drink as I was travelling alone and I was afraid someone would take my table if went up to the bar to order. I wanted lasagne with nothing else with it, however, on the app, it would not let me proceed without either ordering chips or garlic pizza, both of which I had to pay extra for. I was not happy about this. Had they been free, I would have been happy to pick one, however it was unfair that I was forced to pay extra for something I didn’t want. I begrudgingly chose the garlic pizza. Garlic bread used to come free with the lasagne at Wetherspoons, yet this has now changed - the lasagne is more expensive and you no longer have free garlic bread. Instead of garlic bread, you’re offered garlic pizza/flatbread for an extra cost and it isn’t as nice as the garlic bread. I ordered a glass of wine with my meal, which arrived in 10 minutes. I had to wait 30 minutes for my main meal, which was unacceptable. They should have had more staff serving that day, especially given what day it was and the location of the establishment right next to the bus and train stations.

Wife had mixed grill , steak gristle and half of gammon,was very ill after but got money back no problem will not eat here again

I came in with my partner for lunch today and I ordered the grilled chicken burger which was ok in the middle but the edges were very solid and to be honest not edible then both me and my partner had the warm chocolate fudge cake with ice cream and again being honest the ice cream was more ice than cream over all I found the food rather poor quality for here and to top it off my partner tried ordering multiple things before the grilled chicken burger of which none were in stock very poor experience

Excellent local pub. The refurbished premises are open for a limited time today. Good, friendly staff, new, well decorated premises, not as crampted as before. So far so very good. Keep it up!

This is a typical Wetherspoons restaurant situated in the converted railway station cafe and entrance. Offers good food and service, self-service coffee with a large range of real ales at very competitive prices. Nearby parking and shopping.

Went on Thursday curry night and like most Weatherspoon pubs the food was fine and good value for money. Busy during the university term time and we had to wait for a table to become free but not too long as turn around times are quick as the food is served very quickly.

I went here with my family and I enjoyed the wide variety of choices available BUT the tables were very sticky, the chips are not very exciting and the meat was very dry. Very sad.

makes such a difference when the staff are jolly and pleasant only had time for a quick beer but will definitely return if nearby again

Always busy and always not got something you want, can't understand you have a Welch menu then dont have the items to order and camcorder them from the app, quality of the food is poor and most items are over cooked and dry.

Typically Witherspoons beer could be better, food usual microwave rubbish from Witherspoons, service the bar lad was pleasant but the rest reminds me why I stay clear of Witherspoons

By far and away, one of the worst Wetherspoons out there.

I regularly pop in for a pint here and no matter its busy or quiet the service su the bar is hopeless..They obviously don't do any training.hire and go..

We have visited 4 times over recent weeks and it has always delivered the Weatherspoons experience. Good ale and well priced food. Staff were friendly. Only slight criticism was that the breakfast could have been hotter, it was warm. Always excellent value. Where else can you get a good pint for £2?

I visited this Weatherspoons as a direct result of a recommendation from a family member.

This is a very average Wetherspoons, that obviously has management issues that badly need sorting as it would not take a lot to put right. It currently does not offer the wide choice of most venues in this chain, and a point to note they do not serve chicken!

Originally ordered the chicken and ribs combo but unfortunately told that they no longer do it.. WHY:(

Used this pub for the first time the other day! Flat access so okay for wheel chairs, big and well designed with a nice glass enclosure on the train side for outside eating!

Pub is really nice and serves good food, but the tables were horrible with leftover food and drinks left and not being tidied up.

Up to the usual standard nothing posh but food was as expected in a wetherspoons but we could not find a " two for set price" menu. when asked this was still available at the till but I wonder for how much longer as it seems to be phased out at other places in the group - luckily there are other places in Aberyswyth where this is still available for those of us with limited budgets.

We visited here on a Monday morning in October during a week’s Holiday in the area. The breakfast wrap was very tasty, although the pub had run out of sausages, which was a little disappointing, as it’s one of the main ingredients for a breakfast. One of the staff members was very friendly though, which made up for this shortfall, and the service was also fast.

2nd visit here. First time to use the app. It was very busy but service was fab. Staff very friendly. Ordered the vegan breakfast- well done spoons and 2 big breakfasts. Tasty and filling. The only disappointment was the awful smell coming from the disabled toilets

We visited and it was packed with students, given the University not unexpected! Very noisy in one room a bit quieter in another. Had to really search for a menu, where were they, students take them home?

This was our first visit to this Wetherspoons but wasn’t impressed. After eventually finding a table(which hadn’t been cleared of plates or wiped down) we ordered our food and drinks. The food did arrive quickly and was very nice but could be a lot better and looked liked more staff were needed to cover the tables. May give them another chance next time we visit.

Visited here for a lunch time meal, service was good, no issues and food was good and good value. Tables were being cleared as soon as people left their tables not left.. would recommend.

Nearly everything we wanted to order was out of stock, also the menu was very limited compared to other Wetherspoons. We couldn't find anywhere to sit that didn't have cold air blowing from the old ventilation system. The plus sides are that the staff were friendly and helpful,and unlike most Wetherspoons they clean the tables! But the menus could do with a wipe clean. The food we did get was good and they hadn't ran out of beer!

Nice lunch with good service even though they were extremely busy. Excellent value for money. Will return.

Went to tregaron for three nights staying at a relatives and as we travelled up by train the wetherspoons was right on the train station.

Very rude waitress threw a glass at us on leaving because she brought us the wrong drinks and then used highly inappropriate language toward our small brother and his dog

The chips were hot usual spoons but the burger yuk it was burnt and cold I love weather spoons and always go to one of there is one in the town I'm in ,won't be going back to that pub, that was frankly disgusting.
