Amazing food, lovely staff & super cute restaurant

Our experience at this restaurant was amazing. The food was tasty and fresh. Our daughter is very allergic to fish and they made sure there was no mixing of foods and oils. Sae served us and attended to us and he was an absolute gem. The foods we were not sure of he knew what was in them and advised us. My daughter who is 5 years old said the Korean boneless chicken was spicy goodness🥰 this place caters for everyone. We definitely will be back😊

My girlfriend and I came to Yorokobi for my birthday dinner and after rushing home to write this review, I cannot possibly sing higher praise to the Kitchen and Staff! All of the young lads and ladies who waited on us were super polite, friendly and extremely efficient. Our food arrived within minutes despite a busy service and every bite was exceptional, the Karaage was notably delicious as an appetiser and the portion was large enough to satisfy us both. The sushi was heavenly, both on the palette and to look at, I had to further order a ‘Legend Roll’, to take home as I knew I would regret not doing so later on. Bibimbap - best I’ve had in the western hemisphere hands down! If you’re looking for an unpretentious and totally memorable experience, book in and pay Yorokobi a visit, you will not be disappointed!

Cosy place, and pretty busy. The food was good except for one glass noodle dish that was a little oversalted. They replaced it with no issues though. Excellent service by well trained wait staff. Wide range of vegetarian as well as gluten free options with a whole gluten free menu available!

A bit overpriced, but still tasty. We were a bit cautious coming here on a visit, seeing it used to have a Michelin star (as plastered across the windows) but no longer has it. However the starters were excellent and convinced us to stay for a main course. Unfortunately this fell a little short for me, but no doubt it was still good quality. To start we had the soft shell crab and yakitori. Yakitori were pretty standard, on a par with just about every other place we've had it, but they're so good as it is. The crab on the other hand was excellent, delicate flavour and cooked to perfection. For mains we had the korean sizzling barbecue which came with far too few (3) leaves of lettuce wrap up all the meat. It came with rice as well though, so probably this was by design However rice was served with flat plates which was a bit awkward. I found the meat itself lacking a bit of flavour, it wasn't marinated and the accompanying sauce portion was a bit small. We also had the special 10-piece sushi selection which was somewhat hit and miss. The eel, octopus and suf clam were excellent, while the scallop was a bit gritty and didn't have any smoky flavour you'd expect given the torched presentation. Overall it was undoubtedly a good meal, but I can see why the michelin star rating is conspicuously missing after 2019. The price was also I felt too high, our bill came in at £77, which if it had been more like £50 I would have been perfectly happy.

Absolutely outstanding meal. Everything cooked to perfection. Great service throughout. Only issue was the constant flow of delivery drivers coming in, sitting down and watching videos with the volume up on their phones, which took away the ambiance of the restaurant.

I have been going to Yorokobi for years. The food quality stands head and shoulders above its competition, the service is always super friendly and top class. Another local independent gem that we are lucky to have in Aberdeen.

The food here was excellent. Beautiful mixed sashimi and mains. Service was great (especially the young guy serving). I only marked this place down due to the decor and ambiance. Needs a facelift and something done with the lighting (really bright). The toilets need some serious refurb.

Poorly run restaurant, there are better Japanese/ Korean restaurants in Aberdeen. Don't waste your time.

Went as a group of 5 and enjoyed a really lovely dinner with excellent service. We had a variety of items off the menu and all of them were delicious.

First of all the Food is fantastic, let's just get that in...was very well presented and was very good, top notch........... The Décor though, the pictures of the food on the walls, the extremely bright lighting, the wobbly tables ( though that's a world wide Dining issue) and the 'Facilities' ( Circa The Grill 1985, one for the oldies out there), while didn't put a damper on the evening, did make for a less than comfortable/intimate experience let's say.

Sushi was very good. I have never not been given ginger and wasabi with sushi though, so that was disappointing. My partners beef dish was only ok, small and a bit dry. Expected more from this. The chili edamame were delicious.

We’ve eaten here several times before and always really loved it. However, this time was very disappointing. The food was ok, maybe not quite as good as usual but the service was very poor. We had an 8pm table, called to say we’d be 5 minutes late. We had to wait a few minutes before we were sat down. Everything took a while to come and we had to ask for glasses to go with the water and even cutlery and chopsticks!! We were all sharing and had been told we could ask for more food as and when we needed it. We asked for more (very delicious!) noodles and when we reminded them about them later we asked if we could order another dish too to be told that the kitchen was closed. At 9.30 on a Saturday! By 10 we were the only diners left and the staff gave us the distinct impression it was time for us to leave! Very disappointing 😟

Excellent food and service. We were accompanied by friends who knew Japanese cuisine and dishes. It's a bit of a learning curve for me but a delicious one!

Absolutely the worst restaurant experience I have ever had anywhere in the world. Took ages for the staff to take our order. Food arrived after about 50mins. Had about 2 mouthfuls and then heard the staff telling some of the others on our table that we had to leave now, unbelievable. I am a fast eater, 5mins tops for a main. The staff in this restaurant are taking the mick, and need a more realistic booking policy. We had a 1.5hr booking and asked to leave even before all our food was delivered. Then told we had to take the rest as takeaway, seriously! This was a complete surprise. There needs to be changes here, absolutely no customer service in evidence. I ordered bimibap which came in a roasting cast iron bowl, but with no porcelain dish was a hazard to eat from, and left the food in the base burnt and dried out, not worth the price. Summary : avoid, try any other restaurant in Aberdeen first. At least in burger king they will let you stay to finish the food you ordered!

Fabulous mix of Japanese/Corean food.

Placed an order via Deliveroo and experienced the most disappointing meal ever. The Japchae was excessively salty, and the KFC didn't justify its price. Usually, I go for Wagamama, but it wasn't accepting orders today. Despite the higher cost, I decided to try this alternative and ended up extremely disappointed.

I had a lovely dinner with my family. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The Dragon roll and assorted tempura is a must.

Very nice place. The food is really good, but the general ambience can improve. Service was all right too. However, £10 for the Korean cake roll (in the photo), that's a little too steep for what it actually is!

Came here for my daughters birthday. There was a group of 10 of us. Service was fantastic, food recommendations were spot on.

I enjoyed my time here. This is a cozy restaurant with a reasonable variety of selections of food. There are Korean cuisines available, as well as Japanese food. I had egg fried rice, with salmon teriyaki along with a blackcurrant drink. My friends had sushi, miso soup and rice, and we all loved our meals. The staff who attended to us was polite and professional, and the atmosphere in here is family-friendly.

First, It is not the first time I ordered it by deliveroo. I will say that the food quality is good. But the services were very bad, I ordered at around 19:30m and it took more than 90 minutes, and still not finished the preparation, I dont understand but if the restaurant does not want to prepare it why dont you just cancel my order, why you have to keep me waiting? it does not make sense for such behaviour. Please dont waste time and money on this reataurant. Please learn how to respect to your customers! I finially able to cancel the order after contacting deliveroo, it is not the problem of deliveroo, it is just the behaviour issue of this restaurant!

Were greeted warmly upon our arrival and shown to our table, lovely atmosphere inside the restaurant and staff are wonderful. The food was simply outstanding, I can’t remember the last time we had a meal out that was this good, we were there to celebrate my daughters birthday and both my daughter & son loved every part of their meal as well. The restaurant was full by the time we left (19:00 ish on a Tuesday) so probably best to book in advance if your going, I’d highly recommend & we’ll certainly be back in the near future.

What a delight. The staff were warm and friendly, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. We booked early in the evening, which proved to be a good idea as, even mid week, it became very busy around 7pm.

Upon entering the restaurant there are a number of signs with Michelin ratings and Japanese Restaurant Of The Year In The North, this obviously builds a lot of expectations along with the high prices for the food and the ratings online. Initially when we entered there wasn’t someone at the door to ask if we had a reservation or to take us to a table, there was only one table occupied at the time, it wasn’t busy and you would expect to be waited on immediately. We ordered our food and drinks all together, waited twenty minutes for the waiter to come over, apologising the drinks order had been lost. This was fine at the time as it seemed like a genuine mistake and the waiter was attentive to resolve, which happened fairly quickly to his credit. However, when we received our main meals, two of the three meals came out. My girlfriend and I planned to have the two Korean bbq options and share, which didn’t happen in the end due to the long wait for the second portion. We had to chase for the second portion to come, at this point two strikes which can happen but was frustrating, particularly when it ruined our plans to share. We had to wait a good twenty minutes or so for the other portion to come. When the meal arrived it didn’t come with the sauce. Again we had to wait and call the staff over and at this point third strike. By the time the staff had come over and resolved it just felt like a highly aggravating and very frustrating experience. We could also see the staff were offering more attention to other tables and they didn’t really come over and see how we were getting on, particularly when all the waiters had each been contacted on the mistakes made, you would think this would raise an alert in their mind to look after us. If I’m honest, for the price, the service just wasn’t up to standard. Given the strikes mentioned, having worked in customer service roles before, there should be an internal alarm going around to ensure your customers are getting the service they have paid for, particularly when mistakes have happened. At the end of the meal we didn’t receive an apology or a discount for the meal, which I do not expect but out of courtesy for the experience this would have been a nice gesture. I think the meals were ok, but they were not to the standard I would expect for the amount charged. It all seemed very basic, I’ve had meals in other restaurants which are cheaper but far better quality. In order to improve more contact with all your customers to ensure everything is fine would be great and goes a long way, it felt like we the customers had to do all the chasing for your waiters. I think some of the meals could also be reviewed, I’ve had Yakitori for half the price elsewhere and it was honestly fantastic, this really wasn’t a £9.00 meal, which is insanely steep for a very simple starter. Overall I cannot recommend.

Not only that when the food came it was not great at all, very very expensive for the quality. I'll be going to wagamamas next time. No wonder they lost their Michelin status.

Started tasteless. Ordered beef main, served freezing cold, told would receive a new dish, but was just blasted in the microwave. No apologies or discount given. Won't be back.

Went for anniversary dinner. The food, service, and atmosphere were spectacular. Really recommend this place. I was super surprised that other reviews said that “service is poor”, it’s completely untrue! Thank you, guys, will come again!!!

Good restaurant with authentic Japanese and Korean food. Definitely not the average sushi place, with a good selection of peculiar dishes. Also quite a nice range of Japanese and Korean beverages. Everything we had was very good except for the salmon sashimi which didn't really taste like much. Can be quite crowded and noisy, and also fairly expensive, but definitely a good experience.

Amazing meal! I had the chicken gyoza, hot udon soup with tempura prawns and a glass of the in house made Yuzu-ade. The gyoza were light, crispy and piping hot with a delicious classic dipping sauce, and the Udon was fantastic! Such a light but flavoursome broth, wonderfully cooked noodles and a really filling portion, especially with the added prawns. The yuzuade was really fruity and fresh, a perfect pairing with the hot and savoury udon. Loved the glass too, very pretty! I chose to dine here solo as I was just passing through Aberdeen for this one night, and it was a fantastic decision. Service was friendly and quick even though it got pretty busy by the time I was finishing my meal. Whether with friends or travelling on my own again, I'll definitely try to be back!

We had a few hours wait for a flight from Aberdeen so we took a 20 minute cab drive to Yorokobi. Very glad we did. The food was great- the tempura was melt-in-the-mouth good and the sushi was fresh and beautifully presented by the very courteous and attentive staff. Go there if you get a chance.

A few years ago we booked a table at this restaurant for a Christmas meal. When we got there, we found that the restaurant was closed that day. Fortunately the ever-reliable Poldinos saved the day and squeezed us in without a booking. We haven't been since, but today we decided to give it another chance as it was my son's birthday and he likes sushi, so we booked a table for 7.30 When we arrived it was obvious the place was full. They had either forgotten or ignored our booking. After standing around for about 15 minutes, we - my son, husband and myself - were eventually given a table at the back, between the bar and the toilets, underneath glaring spotlights, which was obviously not part of the main restaurant, and probably the staff eating area. I told them this was not acceptable, but they said there was nothing else, and what with it now being 8.00pm on a Saturday night, we really had no option but to take it, although if it had not been my son's birthday I would have just walked out. From our unpleasant table beside the toilets we had a nice view of the main restaurant, where, to add insult to injury, we could see other parties being seated and about 15 or 20 minutes later a couple were given a table for 4 in front of the screens we were sequestered behind. The food was okay, but I was so pissed off that I didn't enjoy any of it I would recommend anyone who likes Japanese/Korean food to go to the recently opened Seoul restaurant on Crown Street, where they at least understand that treating customers like this is not a viable business model.

The staff were friendly and accommodating. The food was superb! I ordered the usual sushi and maki set, other friends ordered chicken teriyaki, beef, etc everyone was 100% happy with their food and service.

Staff very attentive, had gyozo staters and the Japanese Curry and honestly could have had a second plate. Had a Mochi Dessert. Lovely Suntory whisky to round off tonight. Definitely will be back soon

Fantastic. Unfortunately 5 of our party of 9 had to cancel at the last minute as they tested positive for COVID. Their policy is to charge £15 a head for a no show, which is fair, particularly as they had to turn down booking that night. However, they waived the charge and gave us a smaller table, maybe with a bit of a financial loss to them. The food we had was fantastic, the service was fantastic and I cannot recommend them enough. I'll be back next month with my recovered colleagues and the month after that, and again and again.

Awful service but good food. Afraid the service was really poor to say the least. We were shown to our table and it was a good 30 minutes before we were served our first drinks. We ordered our food and two starters showed up around 15 mins later. The third starter some 10 mins after this and mine - a simple salad (which really wasn’t special despite being labelled “Japanese” about 20 mins later. Terrible start. The waiter said he’d arrange a discount for the delay. We ordered a bottle of red wine - this was brought to the table and just opened and left there. No showing the label, allowing one to taste it (it was a corked bottle) etc. Not that that in itself is a big deal but it is a restaurant and should be done - smacks of poor training and ignorance. The mains all arrived together fortunately and were very tasty. When I went to pay they firstly didn’t want to reduce the bill then offered a 50% discount on my salad alone. I felt this to be awful service and at the very least they should have taken that off. Probably a round of drinks should have been offered too (although I doubt we’d have had them - it’s the principle at stake). In short - a good meal completely spoiled by poor service. and it’s expensive to boot. Pity really as I do rather like Japanese food.

I've been to Yorokobi numerous times. The food is generally great, though I would agree with others that the portion sizes are small and on the pricey side. For me, it doesn’t matter if the food is good if I leave hungry! We’d usually just order a few extra sides to make up for it. I'd continue to go, if not for the completely unreasonable response to a miscommunication when my partner booked a table in June 2022. We were running late, so called a few hours beforehand to see if we could push the reservation back by an hour, giving them the name of the booking when doing so. They said we could, but when we arrived there was no booking on file. They didn't have any tables, so we ordered takeaway and went home with it. We had a booking for 5 people, but one of the couples joining had to pull out so there were 3 of us (relevant for later in the review…). My partner had reserved the table on her card and a week later was charged the reservation fee (~£30 per head as I recall) as if we had no-showed. When we called to ask why, it turned out that the original booking had mistakenly been made one week later than we thought it had; this explained why there was no booking for the date we arrived. The booking of the wrong date was entirely on us, but when my partner originally called to move the booking to a later time, they agreed to do so - I don't know how/why they did this given that there was no booking for this date. If they had looked up the booking correctly, we could have cancelled the booking for a week later and wouldn’t have travelled into town to find there was no table despite being told there was one a few hours prior. Until this point I wouldn’t really see anything to complain about, bit of a screw up from us and them. However, they refused to refund us the reservation fee which was a substantial sum, reluctantly giving us a voucher in the end. Additionally, the voucher was only for the 3 people that turned up, not the 5 people included in the original booking – just seemed cheeky on their end. They also took off an admin fee, which was only a few quid but again, given the mutual mistakes seemed cheeky. When we used the voucher we had a nice meal but the service was rushed and one of the mains didn’t come in time to be eaten with the rest of the people eating and a side dish never arrived. They were also rushing around trying to find tables for people who had booked in advance but turned up to find no tables ready. Seems to me that they consistently struggle with managing bookings during busy times, but don’t seek to rectify any issues and blame either the customers or members, or their own staff based on some of the reviews here.

The best sushi in town. Professional service at the highest level. The real flavors of Japan.

I've eaten here a lot over the years (since they moved from the market), and it's never disappointed me. They have a fantastic selection of sushi, maki, and sashimi as well as Korean dishes (Korean BBQ, Dolsot bibimbab, and Bulgogi). There's a good selection for vegetarians and a few vegan options too. Everything is always freshly made and delicious! The service was great. All the serving staff were very friendly and were happy to give advice on dishes. I will definitely be back! One note is that this establishment is small, and so doesn't have room for baby changing facilities. I had a thick changing mat with me and so was able to change my wee one on the bathroom floor.

Perfect dinner! They have an extended menu a with all Japanese options. I couldn’t pick just one. The food was aligned to my expectations and the service was delightful. A very good hidden spot in Aberdeen city.
