we ordered a takeaway. Some good some not so good. 1. spring rolls were excellent but not enough Chili sauce. 2. sweet & sour chicken and boiled rice. Did not enjoy. Better if I had had the chicken in black bean sauce. 3. the golden mushroom aubergine with rice was very good for me but my partner was not so pleased. 4. the scallops with asparagus etc was a bit underwhelming. 5. mixed veg with noodles was ok but I don't like the use of spring onions in a lot of their dishes. Ugh. not great value for money at £70

Always really good food, good menu with choice and efficient service whether you eat in or takeaway. I think the food is better than most restaurants tried in China Town. Only improvement would be recovering of some of the seats (clearly too many customers over the years😀).

We had a movie booking at 4.20 and this restaurant was conveniently located to the town centre but not a chain. Friendly staff and service was prompt. But the main talking point is the food - really tasty and fresh. The menu had a lot of variety, and we found something great for all the family. It was also good value for money for a family of 4.

Going with the family, the staff were friendly and made us feel v welcome. The food was very true to the food I have experienced in the Asia region (having travelled a lot). Good quality means this is not the cheapest place - and not does it pretend to be. It is a good middle to above middle price for the food. Will be going there as a special treat any time I'm in Kingston.

I decided to give this restaurant a go after seeing so many good reviews on TripAdvisor. Being of Chinese descent and used to good Chinese home cooking, I am normally let down by Chinese restaurant food so tend to avoid them, except to eat Dim Sum.So, I took my family including my two children (8 & 10) not expecting much and were blown away by the quality of each dish we ordered! We all had starters (bao, soft shell crab & salt and pepper squid) which was all very good. Not greasy, perfectly crisp and seasoned crab and squid. The bao bun was not dense but light and airy. The mains ordered were roast duck, braised aubergine hotpot and beef brisket hotpot, Singapore noodles and boiled rice. Every single dish was so delicious, well seasoned and cooked to perfection! The portions were generous so we couldn't finish our mains which was a shame as the desserts looked very tempting. The owner visited each table to ask how the food/service was, showing that they care about maintaining a repeat customer base. I had a good chat with the owner who made a point of mentioning that they roast their ducks at the restaurant everyday - something many restaurants don't do.The service throughout was friendly and efficient, and they don't add a service charge to the bill leaving it up to the customer to decide, which is rare these days! This place also serves bubble tea and smoothies - BONUS!I've finally found a great Chinese restaurant which is local to me (after living here for 7 years) and already have my sights on a return visit next week to celebrate Chinese New Year.If you are local to Kingston, I'd highly recommend this restaurant!

I've been on two occasions, once on an evening midweek when it was very quiet and again on this occasion (Saturday evening) when it was very busy. Naturally service was speedier when the restaurant was quieter. The food is reasonably priced and good sizes if you buy the rice or noodle dishes - uncertain on the cost effectiveness of buying a main and a side of rice as I've not yet tried this option. We had hoisin duck wraps to start with which were divine! Mains - the black bean beef rice bowl was delicious, though spicier than anticipated, and the duck noodles were tasty too, just not as good as the rice bowl. I like that the online menu has pictures of the food so you have a better idea as to what you're ordering, some of the menu items I'd have had to search online for definitions otherwise.

Wow this is a find! Tucked away just along the Richmond road from Kingston railway station . Never mind the dark exteriors this is the place for real Chinese cooking and sublime flavours this is not the sweet and sour pork type of Chinese this is the real thing not the europeanised menu. Our choice included a wonderful sea bass in a delightful sauce also lamb chops as most will have never had before .Why aren’t all lamb chops likes these just superb Masterchef cooking. The crispy noodles with scallops weren’t bad either as was the baby Chinese cabbage The sweet was an unusual ice cream in a rice ball. If you want to try serious Chinese food as good as they get in Canton then this is the place to visit . If you come by car there is one of the Kingston carparks at the rear of the establishment.

This place is lovely however the staff are appalling! I ordered Singaporean noodles and specifically asked for no pork! When my order came after a few bites I realised my noodles had pork! When I told Carmen who took my order she replied “you said no shrimp!!” I could not believe it how could she mistake pork for shrimp?!?! Without getting emotional I asked Carmen for a new dish! Which she took the order for straight away... she did not even ask me how everything was after she bought the new dish! When paying for the bill no apology nothing and when leaving not even an acknowledgement! Such a shame this place looks great and the food portions are generous and very tasty!

My wife only likes Indian so I only get one non-Indian takeaway a year but after 14 years of marriage, I think we've found the place that converted her. Every single dish was distinctive and just obviously done to a high quality. My little boy is still eating the prawn crackers three days later they were so fresh. Tried this place based on previous TripAdvisor reviews. So glad we did. The whole family enjoyed the meal very much. Excellent selection of Cantonese dishes. Basic alcoholic drinks selection but if booze is not your thing, there are loads of great options like Hong Kong style icys, smoothies and a good selection of teas. Service is fast, efficient and very friendly. Every dish was delicious, the crispy king prawn rolls were amazing, the ginger beef was done perfectly, crispy and flavourful and not too chewy. If you have read any of my other reviews, you may have deduced that I have a particular fondness for char siu pork. I am happy to report that the char siu pork at Yimchai is among the best I have ever had. Lean and so tender, perfectly flavoured. I was very happy that we over-ordered as that meant I had leftovers for lunch the next day. I am already looking forward to going back for more. A fabulous feast of sweet & sour chicken, beef in black bean sauce and lemon chicken for a very reasonable price. The service was wonderful and were very accommodating when asking for adjustments to the menu. The restaurant is lovely and clean and very modern. If you don't want bones with your duck then request to have the breast and not the leg. We will definitely return.

Service was terrific, choice of dishes good, but I found most dishes bland, lack of flavor. Nice presentation, busy, just bland.

Nice looking, clean place. The service was friendly initially and the salt and pepper squid was divine. But after ‘half-time’ everything changed: the aromatic crispy duck just wasn’t as billed - devoid of flavour and definitely not crispy. The shredded duck was served pre-cut on a plate without you seeing the original duck; I suspect it was ‘bought in’ already cut up and just warmed through. Frankly it was no better than the M&S; pre-packed take-home version. Perhaps the staff knew that I wasn’t happy, as the bill was delivered without the smiles that were evident when I first arrived. All in all an ‘okay’ experience, nothing special, and a far cry from the excellent Obon Japanese restaurant across the road, which was sadly closed for their summer holidays when I visited.

I visited on the 25th July and was welcomed in by a kind waitress who seemed slightly nervous when she spoke, She was a very nice waitress and had a great attention to detail, we asked to be seated near the air conditioning and we were directed to a nice table at the back near the kitchen, the only downside was that we could hear the chefs shouting and the bell of the orders every few minutes however, menus were handed out quickly and drinks orders and food orders were done in a quick but respectfully spaced out time just right not too fast and not slow. The food we had was the Duck Noodle soup it was lovely! The stock of the soup was a bit tasteless however the meat and general food was excellent. Service was good, The drinks variety is impressive. Good place however I can see why it may be overlooked as I did not know of it’s existence prior to my visit because it’s location is slightly out of the way from where people would typically go looking for a restaurant. Reasonably priced and clean and authentic interior,

The food is delicious and the portions are really generous. As the prices are quite reasonable, Yimchai comes highly recommended to both residents of and visitors to Kingston upon Thames. The service is friendly, quick and efficient. For us it is one of the best places to eat out in the town.

Nice healthy dim sum without msg, for the more sensitive palet. Organic ingredients too is great! I don’t feel bloated and unhealthy after eating here. If you ate used to strongly flavoured sauces and salt you may not like this place.
