Nice old pub atmosphere but terribly cold sitting out at the back of the building. Had to keep our coats on.

Really nice building but didn't feel at all welcome. My wife got dirty looks for breastfeeding our 4 month old and the bar staff made it clear we had to leave by 7 because of the baby - a shame but we won't be going back

Went for a quick drink on boxing day. Great selection of drinks for all tastes. My beer geek partner was impressed by the selection of cask ales. The building is steeped in history and extremely cosy. I have never been in the summer,but beer garden looks fab. Lots of greenery and shade.

On a cold, dark, and windswept Sunday Night The Great North Road through Chipping Barnet was a bleak place to be searching for a traditional hostelry. Having rejected several, alas, modernised establishments nearby, I peeped through the not very promising condensation-obscured windows of Ye old Mitre, and risked popping in. Thawing out over a mulled cider served by a very pleasant bar-person, it gradually dawned on me as I took in the details of this lovely old rabbit warren of a coaching-house, that it is one of the last real pubs left around London. Marvellously-curated real ales, and all manner of intriguing beverages freshly chalked-up. In every direction there are inviting nooks and crannies, very comfortably furnished, with beautiful fireplaces. A reassuring buzz of conversation amongst friends, rather than the strident yahooing so prevalent elsewhere these days. As a regular of such establishments as the French House, the Dog and Duck, (Soho), the Nags Head (Hyde Park Corner), and even the old Lamb and Flag, Covent Garden, during its heyday, I can see that Ye Old Mitre is a splendid discovery, beautifully looked after by its Owner and Team, to which I shall return right speedily!

Really like this pub, it has good food and the staff are lovely. Great pub food and the portions more than adequate. 😀

Extremely atmospheric pub indeed especially with the Halloween 👻 decorative theme. The staff are very friendly and helpful when choosing a drink to have. I chose a pint of Abbott Ale🍺

Not a big pub goer but this is a nice one and historic. It's an old coaching stop. Landlord is happy to pour a snifter if you want to try something you're not sure of.

Absolutely lovely, historic pub and the pride of Barnet. Draught Tim Taylor Landlord and GK Abbot were on beautiful form tonight. Delicious food and friendly, welcoming staff. I asked my son where he wanted to eat for his birthday and he said: “Old Mitre”. They kindly gave him a free dessert! Top place

Great outdoor seating area with heaters, good Beers and spirits. BUT NOT IF YOU WANT something non alcoholic! The only non alcoholic Gin was a Strawberry flavoured offering & they didn't have any Sparkling water.. call themselves award winning.....not if you don't cater for people who can't drink alcohol (on some occasions!)

Tried to go for dinner here with my parents, husband and 2-month-old baby on Saturday evening. My husband arrived first and ordered a drink before we arrived. The pub wasn't busy - we were the only customers inside and there were a couple of groups outside. Our baby was being quiet. We weren't planning to stay as they had stopped serving food (it was 8:20pm) but as my husband was only halfway through his pint, my parents and I ordered drinks while we waited for him to finish. After we had paid, one of the bar staff said unfortunately the pub has a policy of no under-18s after 7pm and they hadn't noticed the baby when we walked in. We agreed that we would finish our drinks then leave. A couple of minutes later another staff member came over to have the same conversation with us, even though she was aware this conversation had already happened. This seemed unnecessary and we reiterated firmly that we were going to finish our drinks which we had already paid for, then leave. We also observed that the pub's policy was discriminatory against me as a breastfeeding mother, as my newborn baby needs to be with me so effectively their policy bars me after 7pm. The staff member said she didn't make the rules and had just been instructed to speak to us by her manager. A few minutes later the manager came and said he heard there had been a conflict. We had the same conversation with him and he confirmed it was fine for us to finish our drinks then leave but he remarked that there was a sign on the door advising of the no-under-18s-after-7pm policy. We checked this as we left and couldn't find any such sign. The policy itself is unpleasant and possibly illegal but the way the staff handled this was appalling. As they had only told us we couldn't be there after we had paid for our drinks, they should have either offered us a refund or just let us peacefully finish our drinks then leave, rather than making our time there so uncomfortable.

Very pleased that The Mitre hasn’t changed since Greene King took over. If anything it’s improved. Great beer choice and the food is better. The biggest relief is no changes to the interior. I have visited this pub for over 30 years and the history of it has always been a big motivator. Long may it continue in an age where still many pubs are closing

Best pub in Barnet! Great beer - good options and well kept. Friendly staff. Atmospheric bars. Large outdoor seating area. Live music a couple of times a month too.

Friendly, cosy, warm hospitality and atmosphere, fantastic range of ales and ciders, lovely beer garden! Oh and the place is ancient! Which automatically makes it a superb place to visit!

Still good, though some empty pumps i.e. less choice and I think maybe under new management. Fingers crossed 🍺 Visited recently (June 23) and would recommend Ye Olde Mitre and definitely back up to 5 stars! A good range of ales, friendly bar team and sheltered outside seating area. Lovely sunny afternoon spent here. Thank you.

Good old fashioned pub selling a fine variety of real ales, lagers and ciders. There's a quirky beer garden and lots of interesting historical pictures and newspaper cuttings on the walls. A real find.

Now this is a pub to feel at home in. Traditional features, comfortable seating and good range of good beers. I was surprised how spacious it was as I goind it stretched back so far. Have to visit Barnet Hospital nearby so hope to return here a number of times

A most wonderful pub! The service is warm and friendly, swift and pleasant. The beer is always good quality at a very decent price. Wine selection is perfect and also a good price. The public areas are always clean and well maintained. The gents toilet is always clean and fresh. I highly recommend this Barnét Boozer to the masses!

Visited once. Not going back. Unwelcoming and rude staff who refused to serve us because we had a child, when there is no information children are not welcome. What a disappointment

Rude staff, no explicit information regarding no children allowed. Approached our table to kick us out. Should be informed that this should be done by a professional door supervisor and not someone from behind the bar. Such a shame a historic pub represented by rude people.

Dreadful experience tonight. The mitre has been our local for the past 30 years but atmosphere and service have been affected since Green King took over. Staff look miserable. Greeted by an unsmiling bar server with a ‘you’ll alright?’ Drinks ordered, only to then have to leave at 7pm because my 22 year old daughter (drinking a non-alcoholic Appletiser ) couldn’t provide proof of age. Apparently you now have to be 18+ to enter the pub from 5pm onwards. Dreadful music now playing from speakers and bright overhead lighting to rear seating area. Such a shame ….

Great little pub which my family and I used to use every week but sadly the open fire which was a great centre point has been taken out and seems like it’s lost it’s character .

Lived in Barnet for many years and have always walked past this place but never been in. For some reason I always thought it was (no offence to old men as I am one) an 'old man's pub'. I was delighted to be wrong. Warm and welcoming with a gorgeous interior with varied seating areas either in the bar, out the back or in the large garden at the rear. Really good selection of ales (had one of the Christmas specials which didn't disappoint) and they even sell gourmet pet food for your four legged friend. Think it's also CAMRA officiated. So with friendly service, great drinks, homely furnishings and pet friendly definitely one to recommend. I will certainly be back!

Superb pub in Barnet. Good selection of ales and beers. Staff are always nice. It’s really cosy for the winter with its low ceilings, traditional bar and fireplace near the front. It extends out like the tardis way in to the back so there’s plenty of space and also a very large garden too.

Update: I love this boozer, it's a proper old pub with a great selection of ales and a relaxed atmosphere. The landlord may have changed a few times over the years, but the pub has retained the same welcoming vibe throughout and remains one of my all time favourite haunts. Not somewhere I bring my noisy kids, but there is no better place in Barnet for a few quiet beers.

This is a beautiful old pub. I'd become jaded re pub food , however we had a lovely meal. I recommend the burger and my wife had the bacon and chicken sandwich. Both were great. The stuff were friendly and welcoming. Needless to say the beer was fantastic! Thank goodness it's local and we will definitely go back soon.
