A clean and comfortable place to stay, I can’t complain about the room. But It was ruined by a grumpy member of staff. We came down for breakfast in the morning and were seated in a tight corner space, offerd tea or coffee, no offer of any juice or cereal, no offer of a refill on hot drinks there was no customer service what so ever from the member of staff. When I was paying the bill I quibbled over the charge, he was very abrupt in his reply, that the breakfast was not free, it was an extra £20 which I did not really agree with as we were not offered the free breakfast. The service was not what I would have expected from a business where your bread and butter are the customers. Will not be staying again.

What a find the day before we were due to go back home! We liked the look of the place when we drove by so booked a table for Sunday lunch. From the moment we walked in (with our large dog) we were made to feel welcome. The staff were friendly and helpful. The sourdough starter and dip was melt-in-the-mouth delicious. Best ever! The mains were served hot and were beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. I can’t recommend highly enough and have just booked to go back to the area in the Summer. Can’t wait!

A great stay, with a fantastic breakfast and a great Sunday lunch......but spoilt by an extremely unfriendly member of staff. The final straw was coming down for a coffee at 10.25am on Sunday to be told that check out was 10.30am [no one had mentioned this previously]. I said Ok, we would drink our coffee, pack and leave. At 10.55 we came down to settle our bar tab and leave......he said it was £75. That seemed high and when I asked for a copy of the bill I saw he had added a late departure charge of £25. When I asked he said we were 25 mins late leaving and it was £25.......ie. £1 a minute!!! Never experienced anything like this before will not be going back.......which is sad because it not a bad place! Just spoilt by a single member of staff.

We were recommended to eat here on a Sunday, so we made the booking, and arrived on a cold Sunday afternoon. The place was packed, but Ian showed us to our table, and very friendly he was to. Food quickly ordered, and 10 minutes later, there it was in front of us. Belly of port, with all the trimmings, and wow, what a delight. The food was exquisite, and plenty of it. We will definitely be back for some more. Many thanks to all the staff.

The pub has all the signs to be amazing but sadly it is not by any stretch of the imagination. The village setting is quintessentially British and on arrival the scenery does put you in a great mood. Sadly that lift in spirit does not last on. Stayed one night there and as soon as you walk in you feel like the staff are disappointed that you did make it to the place. Taken to the room upstairs and it was very very clean. Yes it is small and the shower room reminds you to go back to weight watchers upon your return home. It’s a pub room and walls are paper thin. I could hear the person next door unzip his suitcase!! I hope that’s what it was…. Booked dinner for 7:30 and the restaurant was simply empty. Guy at bar took me the the table furthest away and luckily I ordered my drinks whilst I was at the bar. Guy brought me the menu when I sat down but he never came back. At 7:50 I walked to the bar to call the waitress who was most helpful since the guy forgot about me. Dinner was pricey but very good. Guy from counter came to get my plate at 8:20 and I asked for the dessert menu. 15 minutes later I walked to bar to tell them I am leaving. The guy then said oh sorry I forgot to bring the menu!! The restaurant was just empty and he forgot!!!! The 2 staff were busy all the time discussing tipping week whilst they totally ignored a paying customer. Room wise: if you are like me and built for comfort with extra padding, you will find the shower room and the toilet most uncomfortable. It is extremely small and tight. No hot water in wash basin but shower was powerful and hot. Breakfast is included but it’s only continental. Full English is extra. You don’t help yourself but rather tell the waitress what you want and she brings it to you. Coffee is made fresh in front of you and the morning service (without the bearded guy from night before) was excellent!

Booked a specific room for a special occasion, which the hotel was notified of. Was given a different one, with several conflicting excuses. Spent ages listening to the phone conversation in the room we should have had, through paper thin walls. We were the only customers in the overpriced and chilly restaurant so there was no atmosphere. Asked the waitress if there was salad with the steak and she said no, so we ordered salad. The steak came with a mound of pea shoots. The salad was a bucket of pea shoots. We'd had enough pea shoots so we didn’t eat the salad. We went to the bar area after dinner, having not been offered a chance to order dessert or coffee, to hear the chef loudly complaining to the bar staff about customers who "complain" (we didn’t complain, we asked) about salad, only to leave it. Next morning, our otherwise lovely breakfast had a pile of inappropriate pea shoots on it. On a full English breakfast.

When we arrived we were told we had not made a booking and that it was likely we had booked at a similar named pub in Petersfield. We looked at the booking log and pointed out our booking to the server who joked that we shouldn't panic. The food itself was very good and the waiting staff attentive, however when paying the bill there were further problems caused by the same staff member who had been unable to find our booking. The bill was about 110 pound so we asked to put 80 pound on one card and 50 on another, giving a 20 pound tip. We were told we could possibly do this and that if we wanted to share the bill we would need to go to the bar and itemise every item in order to split it. We pointed out we were paying mote than the bill and offered to pay the exact bill but again were told we had to go the bar and list every item each family had ordered. A disappointing end to a pleasant meal.

We were glad we did as the roast beef was fantastic. Lots of roast potatoes, the best Yorkshire pudding ever, roasted shallots and beetroot added a nice change to the standard veg you usually get with a roast. Really enjoyable.

Clean and warm welcome - pork belly was stunning but the harissa pasta was not good - as it was under the govt eat out scheme then ok but if we had paid full price for the pasta i would have asked foe my money back - menu v meat orientated but give a thought for the veggies

Friends who have ventured out to pubs/restaurants over the past week or so told me they felt pretty safe as the waiting staff were masked and being careful when handling items, we therefore decided to visit The George for a meal. We were extremely disappointed that none of the waiting or bar staff were wearing masks and when the Chef walked through the restaurant he also was not wearing one. No gloves were worn and cutlery etc was all handed out as per normal.

There is a sign outside wishing everyone a warm welcome saying coffee is served. So popped in at 11am for a coffee with my Mum and husband. When I ordered two coffees and a coke I was told by an older member of staff “he thought he’d taken the Starbucks” sign down. He was most sarcastic no please or thank yous . I commented it was a little early for alcohol at 11am. Lady after me ordered 3 coffees I said he told me it’s not Starbucks he then commented he was fed up making coffee and the village needed a coffee shop!! So much for warm welcome. Coffee was served by friendly young man which was the only highlight. After covid and now venturing out don’t expect to be talked to so rudely.

Popped in Saturday lunchtime after completing a country walk around East Meon and were glad we did.Good service, friendly staff, excellent food and beers. The 3 starters we had were really good - well presented, lots of flavour and good attention to detail. Worth noting too that the owners and staff were well organised with good communication to all customers ref the procedures they need to follow the COVID shutdown ... good to see.More than happy to recommend this pub !

Whilst on our way home from Portsmouth on Wednesday we decided to explore some of Hampshire's villages and stopped at this amazing pub for lunch. On a cold and windy day we found the pub to be warm and welcoming and thefood is locally sourced and is wonderful. The best treacle sponge ever!Unfortunately I left my scarf at the pub so we went back on Friday to collect it and have another lunch.I can't recommend this pub enough and am looking forward to going back soon.

I was staying here this week and really couldn’t fault the food. Plenty of choice on the menu but some of the dishes are quite expensive. I went for a burger which was delicious. Full English breakfast in the morning was spot on.

came here for my birthday meal with my husband. Food was delicious, service.... non-existent!You would be looked after better in pizza hut or wetherspoons! No acknowledgement in regards drinks or care in regards to food being served and if it's ok. (luckily for this establishment their chef is pretty good!).For 4x drinks each, 1x appetizer, 1x starter and 2x mains with a side, accumulating to £108.00 Bill for 2 people is madness. Wanted to try this place as menu has always seemed interesting glad we can say we tried it. would I reccomend? No.Will I return? No. And that is thanks to the lack of service the staff provide.

Used to love this place...weekend lunch was shambolic though. Over an hour food to arrive...portions were miniscule (suspect they had run out of beef?) and beef was as tough as old boots. Very disappointed. Under new hands? New chef????Oh...and one thing that has gone up are the prices...just as quality has collapsed
