We had a lovely meal at yakitori, service was efficient and the food was so so delicious. The waiter apologised for our food being a little delayed (which was such a minor wait in comparison to other restaurants) but everýthing else was so quick and tasty we honestly didn't mind at all! We already can't wait for our next meal there, we want to eat the whole menu

Love going here. Restaurant is clean and Covid safe. They take your temperature and insist on you using the hand gel before you go in. Restaurant is not too busy either. Food is superb. Fresh sushi and sashimi choices. Good selection of hot drinks including English style tea and coffee. The trick with the menu is not to order too much although it’s v tempting when you have such a varied choice. Good vegetarian choices too and their miso soup is lovely. Worthwhile being patient for fabulous food. Will be back as soon as Covid -19 is done.

My son's fave restaurant of all time .Tucked away in Cardiff Bay is this little gem. The food here is simply superb. Everything is outstanding on the menu and cooked to perfection. This is fine dining not your typical take away food .Very highly recommended.Staff very helpful and friendly

The best Japanese restaurant in Cardiff for sure. Last time it was two of us, and everyone was so kind to us, there was a really quick service and the food was incredible. The place is so nice and with and they have covid measures ( space between tables, sanitizer and fever check) If you ever go don’t forget to try their katsu curry or their beef noodles, ITS A MUST.

EXCELLENT! Without a doubt, our favorite restaurant in Cardiff. Yakitori has the BEST selection of Japanese food, the sushi is incredible (highly recommend the duck maki rolls) and the Beef Teriyaki noodles are to die for! The service is outstanding, the staff are so friendly and so welcoming. We were recommended to go about a year ago and can honestly say we have been at least once a month since. Highly, highly recommend.

Took advantage of this amazing restaurant whilst the “eat out to help out” campaign was on, I ended having a ramen as my main (highly recommend) and prawn tempuras as a side! Very friendly staff, will be visiting again very shortly

This is my fav place to go for dinner with friends (yup introduced them to this place and they all loved it)..I could not get tired of the flavours!!I have moved to Milton Keynes but hope to visit when i am back in Cardiff soon and enjoy my favourite cuisine :)

First visited them in august and it was amazing! Went back there again with more friends after 3 days later as it was eatout. The sushi is really amazing and the chicken skewers as well. Highly recommended! Will definitely go back Again. Thanks

Una pequeña y agradable estafa.Curiosamente, no hay orden de bebidas, solo directamente a la comida.Falta de atención a lo que sale de la cocina, y mucho menos al detalle. . .Edamame sin chile y el "cangrejo de caparazón blando jumbo entero con mayonesa de wasabi", que era solo unas piernas y una mayonesa de chile. No tengo idea de en qué menú estaba trabajando el chef, pero aparentemente el de otro restaurante. Salsa aguada e insípida con tempura.La comida era perfectamente adecuada, lejos de ser alucinante y desafortunadamente no refleja las otras críticas más positivas en las que basamos nuestra decisión de visitar.Servicio al menos más atento que el chef, aunque la comida de otra persona se ofreció a nuestra mesa a pesar de que el restaurante no estaba lleno.No puedo pensar en ninguna razón para volver aquí tristemente.

We have dined here on many occasions but never left a review. In our opinion, it’s consistently good and the food is always delicious, hot and fresh. We opted for the chicken yakitori skewers to start followed by chicken karaage and the tepanyakki beef - absolutely delicious! The staff are always very friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to return.

Absolutely loved it. Food was so tasty and fresh. We had lots of the small plates and a main, which was very reasonable considering the amount of food we ordered! Friendly and good service too. Thoroughly enjoyed, would definitely recommend and will be returning!

We saw this restaurant on a previous trip to Mermaid Quay and we thought that we should one day book a table for the family and that day was yesterday.We thought the staff were friendly and attentive, we were served fairly quickly and the food was fresh.We bought a bit of everything so we tried the soft shell crab, crispy parcels, Sushi, Ramen and rice dishes.We all thought the food was great and tasty, so I will definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone that's looking for authentic Japanese food.

My friends and I decided to have Japanese, so we decided to try Yakitori #1 instead of Wagamama’s. I ordered the chicken kurrage which tasted beautiful with the salmon hosomaki sushi. Everything tasted fresh and good... just wish there was more!

I have been going to this restaurant for years so after lock down was lifted could not wait to go back we ordered various dishes then I ordered my favourite dish which was noodles with beef teriyaki but I was disgusted when this dish which cost £14.95 turned up in a desert bowl before lock down it was always served in a large what I would call a pasta bowl I didn’t complain because the waitress was so lovely I probably won’t go back again so sorry but I felt totally ripped off

Had lunch on Monday- some dishes better than others- like the soft shell crabs and the prawn skewers. The rice paper wraps, the sashimi was average. Did not take to the saki. Service was rather mixed and unfriendly.

This restaurant never fails on quality and value for money . So glad to see the Yakitori open again. Food was awesome and good service already looking forward to the next visit.

We had a family lunch in the middle of August. They were running the "eat out to help out" Government Scheme which knocked £40 off the bill. I was a bit surprised that they didn't have a lunch menu, we had to order off the main menu.We had a Sashimi Combo Platter, plus some Maki Rolls (California and Firecracker), plus a main course each, and a round of drinks. Before the eat-out discount it was £117 (which isn't a cheap lunch for four). Net of discount it was £77 which was okay.Really liked the display cooking at the rear of the restaurant.The Sashimi combo was so fresh, and the Firecracker Maki Rolls were awesome. A bit disappointed that they didn't do any deep fried Maki - the California roll was okay. For mains; Three of the four had Teppanyaki Beef which was awesome, my seafood combo (three prawns, three pieces of salmon and a scallop cut into three pieces) with noodles was fab (although nearly £18 in itself).I thoroughly enjoyed the food - which was fab. A pricey lunch at full price though.Would go back but, in the absence of a lunch menu, would only go back in the evening.

Decided to treat ourselves to lunch on way back from Pembrokeshire holiday, as regularly eat here. Food was as good as ever. Social distancing in place from moment we arrived and staff brilliant as ever. They seem busier than ever, so i would advise booking!

We came here last minute and our waitress Rosha was very friendly and even though they were fully booked let us sit outside. It’s a really nice spot on Cardiff bay as well. As we were waiting to order food the restaurant got very busy and we thought the staff handled it really well, even when wearing a mask :) The food was amazing and some of the best Japanese cuisine i’ve ever tasted. Would highly recommend any of the Maki Rolls and defiantly get the chicken gyoza’s and the ramen, we got the duck one and it tasted phenomenal. We used the eat out to help out scheme, so cost us £10 each. Couldn’t fault the food or restaurant at all.

We have visited Yakitori #1 a number of times over the past few years and the food is always brilliant. We tend to order a variety of items such as gyozas, skewers, sushi and noodles. Every dish is always perfect. The staff are friendly and hard-working, I would highly recommend and encourage everyone to visit.

My partner and I love the food here the sushi is fresh and tasty and if you are not into sushi there are some beautiful rice and noodle dishes to try. Seriously great food

My boyfriend and I have visited yakatori for around 4 years now.The food is exquisite. Every mouthful is an explosion of flavour. The food is fresh, clean and delicious. The staff and company are marvellous.Each and everytime the owner welcomes us with open arms and remembers who we are and what weve been up to. They provide us with an update on how they are and how there family is doing which is the most wonderful touch as it makes you feel at home.The staff are professional and provide great suggestions.And then there is the price, which is so good and more than reasonable!! Love this place, you would be a fool not to go here.

Been meaning to try this place for a while so decided to pop in for lunch. Nice pleasant interior with open kitchen at the rear. Staff friendly and welcoming. Had the lunchtime menu of chicken karage with rice and katsu chicken. Both were delicious. Didn't have drinks which kept the bill reasonable at just over £20. Lots of sushi dishes available as well as noodles and rice. Maybe slightly overpriced but considering most pub meals are around £10 this was much better and well worth it. Overall a nice meal and would definitely try again.

after trying every sushi places in Cardiff, we are returning only to Yakitori#1. Great location in the Cardiff Bay, always very high standard of the food and their tempura soft shell crab is a total highlight

Probablemente no volveremos a pesar de que visitamos el área de la bahía regularmente.

What a shock, 2 skewers of chicken 4 small portions of "JUMBO CRAB"(not the whole as i was expecting for soft shell crab) and 3 prawns for £30. you do the maths. Most certainly wont go again.

This 2nd visit every bit as good as my first. Deliciously different. Very tasty beef grilled with noodles, beef super tender. Quick service, nice staff who are helpful to novices with Japanese food. Spoilt for choice so difficult to get it just right without going overboard, until we get used to it i guess.

You will not be disappointed. Great food. Great service. This place had one of the best sushi we had in a while. Fresh and great taste on each platter. A little more expensive than other places but well worth it. Enjoy!

We randomly popped in here for lunch one day and wow! The food was divine and not too pricey for Cardiff bay. We can’t wait to visit again.

Had dinner here. The food was decent and the service was on time. We did try their yakitori and I would only recommend their beef which is cooked well. In terms of pricing I would say it is slightly overpriced but then again, it is located in a prime location.

We went on a Sunday night and it was very quiet, really don’t know why because the quality of the food was great. Lovely range of choices and super fresh. Service and wine also great. Highly recommend

It was my son's birthday 36th mind. He's a fan of this stuff. Bit of rice wrapped in a leaf with maybe a couple of grams of fish.

I have been here twice now & i'm never disappointed. The staff are lovely, the sushi was amazing, the food is so fresh and the rice is perfect. There is so much to choose from & all are just amazing. I totally recommend this place! Thanks for having us ☺ will be coming back x

The reviews are too entusiastic: we didn’t eat as well as expected: too much surimi, too fried, no particular combinations of flavours and elements. Mediocre sushi with no fantasy. They also made a mistake in the order and tried to convince us that it was the right dish.

Large menu with numerous delightfully tasty sounding dishes. A new experience for us & well worth the visit. 8 smaller dishes & 3 large 'mains' including 4 cokes & lemon/honey drink came to just over £100 so although perhaps a little expensive the gastronomic experience was superb. Waiting staff were polite too.

Tucked away off mermaid quay the service is prompt and friendly, the food is gorgeous, the ramen eaten in proper Japanese style with slurping and sipping is lovely.

I visited in the early afternoon and chose the tempanyaki beef. I honesty had no expectations and to my surprise it tasted delicious! The beef was so tasty and tender. I highly recommend

We originally tried to dine here on a Tuesday evening, but it was closed (don't get caught out by the website, which says they are open all week). We were pleased we tried again the following day though as we had a lovely meal. My husband commented that the chicken Katsu curry was much nicer than the Wagamama's version, and I thoroughly enjoyed the mixed seafood dish. The sashimi grade salmon it came with was particularly delicious. Drinks were also good, we had Japanese beer to start and ended our meal with sake, which was beautifully presented.

Well worth a visit. It was not expensive and the food was bursting with flavour. Good customer service and really helpfull when asking about some of the dishes, our server took time to explain. I highly rerecommend this place and will be gong back next time I'm in Cardiff.

Mi madre olvidó sus gafas en el restaurante y cuando no pudimos recuperarlas a la mañana siguiente, ya que el restaurante estaba cerrado, ¡el dueño tuvo la amabilidad de enviarlas a ella después de que llamáramos! Went here to try something different from the usual Wagamamas. Staff were nice, but after giving my order and asked for it without certain ingredients she didn’t write it down so came back to check what I asked for it to be without, even asking saying again it was still completely wrong. Pricey for small meal

Too frequently these days, you find somewhere nice to eat but when you revisit the food has deteriorated. Yakitori food is as good as ever. I have one ask though - add a chilli option to your ramen dishes, I do miss the chilli ramen!

Came here to use my groupon voucher. Set meal was lovely even tho we had a few concerns before hand. Food came out quickly and everything tasted amazing. Accidently smashed a glass but staff were quick to clean up and were very friendly about the situation. Lovely atmosphere and i would highly recommend the chicken katsu curry!

Food was ok although I ordered without certain veg, they came back to politely double check my order but still gave it with the wrong veg. Prices seemed ok but when the bill came it looked OTT. The known brand Wagamama was even cheaper.

I visited Yakitori for the first time yesterday evening, and was really impressed with the range of, and quality of food. I went along with some family members, who highly recommended the place. At first, I wasn't sure, as I'm not really keen on Sushi. However, there was such an impressive and extensive range of food on offer, together with Sushi (if you want it) that I needn't have been concerned. As a group, we shared each others' dishes - many of the dishes make sharing possible, and everything was absolutely delicious.

Visited for late lunch on a Saturday. Reasonably busy, but as always service very good. Been here several times and always enjoyed, but surprisingly Yakitori has improved its standards from very good to excellent. Dishes were tasty and well presented. Very highly recommended.

First visit and also first real experiance of Japenese food and left very impressed will definatley return. Food was amazing so many flavours, can't pin point one that stood out more than the other. Service was great and food came out hot, fast and well presented. Price was reasonable 4 dishes, and 4 drinks came to £50. Can't wait to go back!

First visit here, lots of choice on the menu and the food was delivered hot and timely. Tasty and well-presented, reasonable prices. The temptation is to compare this with Wagamama and it compares well. Definitely a good alternative.

After my second visit, I want to share my experience with others, so here is my review.

We’ve been to lots of Japanese restaurants, including the chains, but our meal was a cut above. Great maki and nigiri, all fresh and flavoursome. Only downside was that a few dishes didn’t come, but we didn’t press the point as we had over ordered; needless to say we weren’t charged. I’d return very happily!

Whilst not offering the gimmicks of high street chains or the coziness of smaller establishments yakitori simply does sushi very, very well. Prices are consistent with the quality on offer, being neither cheap nor expensive. Easily the best sushi restaurant in Cardiff

We booked a table for our family for a birthday celebration. We said on the booking it was for a birthday celebration. When we arrived the restaurant was closed. We waited for around 20 minutes and called the restaurant several times but no response so we ended up having to find somewhere else. Very disappointed.

In a wonderful location this restaurant has an excellent advantage.

The Cardiff Bay Area has many chain restaurants. It is refreshing to find an independent restaurant where the food is freshly prepared and the staff are helpful.

Usé un cupón de groupon que recibí como regalo de cumpleaños y fui a Cardiff Bay para una comida a la hora del almuerzo. No hay elección, pero lo que teníamos era delicioso. Curry de pollo Katsu - pechuga de pollo en rodajas gruesas con una capa de pan rallado - servida en una cama de arroz pegajoso. Esto fue acompañado por pequeños paquetes de albóndigas de vegetales (gyoza) con una salsa de chile dulce. Definitivamente volveré a probar el resto del menú.

Excellent food, only thing was everything came at once, we ordered starters and main dish but they didn't ask us if we wanted them separately. Overcharged for a bottle of wine when my wife just had a glass, good job we checked the bill, not sure if we hadn't spotted it we would of paid it? Anyway, waiter sorted it straight

I have been here on several occasions with my nieces family, for both lunch & dinner. The food is first rate - delicious ramen, stir fried noodles, katsu curry & the best agedashi tofu I have had so far.

The food was great, the pickled ginger was exceptional. The spider Maki was absolutely brilliant. Well worth a visit. The staff are very friendly and the service was very quick and attentive.

Food was great had no complaints about sushi at all really good and fresh but service from male staff was friendly and professional but waitress answered phone rudely when we're making reservations so we were hesitant on going but we still went and had good food and drinks to our date night so we glad we didn't judge straight away.

We had a lovely meal at Yakitori this evening. The menu is extensive, portions generous and staff friendly. The soft shell crab maki and the duck noodles were delicious, as were the chicken and the sweet potato skewers. We really enjoyed our visit as an end to a good bank holiday weekend.

This was my second visit to Yakitori and once again the food was fantastic but unfortunately our visit was marred by the service we received. The chicken gyoza, duck maki and yakiniku beef skewer we shared for starters were delicious. The gyoza was crispy and flavourful and the duck maki was very fresh and they were very generous with the amount of duck. The beef was so tasty that both of my parents had it for mains, one with noodles and one salad. I had the duck in plum sauce with rice and it had a lot of flavour and all were good portion sizes. The food came out quickly (the restaurant was not busy so I would have been surprised if we'd had a long wait) but the rest of the service was lacklustre and the young lady who served us gave the impression that she would rather have been anywhere else but there. When she cleared our plates and all our napkins after the starters she only replaced one napkin and we had to catch her later to ask for more, and she appeared uninterested and bored throughout our entire visit. I have worked in the service industry so I understand the pressure that is put on members of staff but it was a very quiet day and it would have improved our overall experience if the service had been friendlier. However I would like to mention that the gentleman who took our payment stopped what he was doing in order to attend to us once he saw that we were waiting which we appreciated.

Visited during the Eisteddfod. The food was simply delicious, especially the soft shell crab which was wonderful. Service was quick. A real find and so glad we chose it over the chain restaurants in the area.

This restaurant is hidden in Mermaid Quay with generic chain restaurants and is a real gem of a restaurant. The food is beatifully presented and some of the best Japanese food I have eaten. It was very fresh and tasty, we were a party of four so we tried lots of sushi ans small dishes.There was a vegetarian and ceoliac in the party and there were plenty of dishes to choose from. The staff were friendly and efficeint. We will be visiting again.

Me and my daughter visited last night before a show and we were not disappointed! Lovely restaurant, clean and modern. Staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered miso sweet potato skewers and seared salmon skewers followed by salmon sashimi (delicious) and a generous portion of salmon and avocado rolls which were lovely. My favourite was the tempura prawn hand roll which was larger then expected and really tasty. All food was served fresh and there was only a short wait for it to be served. I highly recommend going here if you visit the Bay

We dropped in for a quick bite to eat and decided to have 5 starters between the 2 of us as we couldn’t decide what we wanted and we were both very happy. The beef ongiri (sorry not sure of spelling) was amazing. I would also recommend the vegetable tempura which was also a highlight.
