Xian in Bromley

We had a family birthday meal at this restaurant on Wednesday delayed by a year as this time last year the establishment was closed for decoration. Going on recommendations from over a year ago I booked. The service was good no complaints there but the food was very sub standard. The starters were ok and the crispy duck was fine. However cutting it up directly outside a toilet is a no no! This I never knew about until I got home and was told. If I had known it would have been sent back. All the mains were tasteless undercooked or overcooked unless your a sugar fanatic this place is not for you. Very disappointed indeed. Will not be returning.

I cannot understand the price or reviews for this place - the food was vile. Crispy duck was shredded by the toilet. I’d actually go as far as to say this is the worst Chinese I’ve ever had.

When my family & I wanted to treat ourselves & celebrate special occasions, Xian has been the place we would go & we were never disappointed. We have made so many memories & celebrated so much at Xian over the years. I am so pleased Xians is still here. We moved away in 1996 & still remember Xians as being our family favourite, plus we stole an ashtray, (because you could smoke in the restaurant back in those days!-I know disgusting!) which is in the same condition today as when we took it. The best Chinese in Bromley and Orpington! A wonderful meal for my husbands birthday! Staff are fantastic, they go above and beyond for customers and are excellent with children! Food is great quality and reasonably priced! We was let down by a Chinese restaurant we use regularly and phoned xians to see if they could fit us in, straight away they said yes and the table was ready when we arrived 15 minutes later! Thank you very much!

Eat lunch here quite regularly and have never had a bad experience. The quality and choice of menu is superb, the staff are very friendly and welcoming and efficient. Altogether, an absolute gem.

Shocked by price of drinks...2 x glasses of wine and a small Chinese beer £32.50. Food was good but again a tad overpriced. Central London prices in Orpington.

Blacklock always has excellent food but the service tonight was like being at a small family owned place. Such energy and friendliness. Jim, our main waiter was just so lovely. I'd shared that I'd had a difficult day at work and he gave me a card saying the restaurant wishes me all the best and sod my boss! How thoughtful and made me smile! The waitress provided great wine suggestions. They couldn't have been nicer or provided better service, alongside excellent service. What more could you want?!

Old Orpington favourite. Reliable and feels like a special experience every time. It’s not The Ivy of course, but it is so much more than just another oriental restaurant. Been coming here when I’m in the area for nearly 25 years. It’s a sound choice.

I don’t recognise at all the negative reviews on here. This restaurant is top class not some “frozen” chip bar etc. A top chef happens to eat in this restaurant often! Take out is exceptionally good also

We have been visiting as a family, both for occasions and just for a meal out, for close to a decade now. It has never failed once. Ambiance is great, busy but comfortable, service is very prompt and efficient, and the food has always been excellent, never ordered anything that was less than perfect.

Best Chinese food I’ve taste. I’m a fussy eater and they accommodate the fish according to my taste. Staffs so lovely and the owner always always makes you so welcome and at ease. Every week we eat out there or we order.

I’ve been eating in xian for 20 odd years , Saturday was my first since lockdown it was superb , great service as always and the food was as good as it’s ever been , incredible that it’s been so good for so long .

Mi pareja, que no es fanática de los mariscos, se mostró un poco escéptica, sin embargo, tenía la tostada de gambas y el plato principal de gambas. Siguiendo con esto, es seguro decir que se ha convertido. Al ser extremadamente críticos, la comida se sirvió rápidamente entre platos, pero después de pedir un descanso para fumar, disminuyeron la velocidad. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente y 100% volveré.

No recomendaría este lugar en absoluto, y no volveremos para darle una segunda oportunidad. ¿Muy pobre y decepcionante?

Tuve una deliciosa comida para llevar de Xian. Fue mi primera visita a este restaurante. El servicio fue bueno, el restaurante estaba limpio cuando llamé para hacer el pedido y lo envolvieron todo bien. La comida llegó rápidamente. Probamos algunos platos de pollo, varios acompañamientos y arroz frito con huevo. Todo estaba muy sabroso y caliente, con raciones de buen tamaño. Definitivamente volvería a comprar comida de Xian.

Went to Xian another good evening and excellent meal and service. They still were busy dispite being a couple of covers down, people self isolating. However the service was ten out of ten and the food was excellent very tasty and well presented. We decided to go off the set menu and it was worth it for the little extra cost involved. The vegetable dish was lovely nice and fresh and not soggy like in some places. Also the sizzling beef and sweet and sour pork, was really good too. No hesitation in recommending this place just book, a couple of weeks ahead for a weekend as once the panic attacks are over this place will be full, and I can see why.

I have been coming here for years and only just realised I have never reviewed before. I always recommend this place to friends and family and have always had rave reviews for the food, service and overall quality of the meal. The staff are always friendly and happy help and the ambience is great. The set meals offer a variety of dishes to try all of which were all great (tried C this time) Would recommend booking well in advance to ensure you can get a table.

The interior is well decorated and service is welcoming. Ordered the set menu C. The starter was very good, the ribs were cooked well and had a good flavour but given the items in the dish, sweet and sour sauce is a must but was lacking. The rest of the dishes were decent and not too salty. The roast pork however was the worst pork I have had. The meat was not tender, fatty and not heated enough. There were also a lot of 'end bits' of char siu rather than the better more succulent middle parts. Overall not bad and would consider going again but I'd definitely steer clear of the pork if I did go back.

13 Dec Xian. Haven't visited in years and now remember what I've been missing! Had the Christmas menu, which was really excellent and such good value for money! The dishes included lobster, steak, etc, were all perfectly prepared and cooked (delicious and nicely presented) and good size portions. And to top it off we were offered any drink on the house to finish. Very generous. Will definitely return ASAP.

Make sure you book well in advance. Xian must be the busiest orthentic Chinese restaurant in Kent. The variety of wonderfully unusual Chinese dishes The wonderfull ambiance and friendly staff. Recommend for small and large groups.

I have visited this restaurant a few times and always loved it. They are attentive, staff are friendly and on this visit I had the opportunity to meet the owner and he was a true gentleman. Would highly recommend eating here!

Lo he usado para llevar a lo largo de los años y la comida en general está bien pero es cara para lo que obtienes. Acabo de entrar y me dijeron que se niegan sin contacto ya que han tenido problemas para no obtener el dinero. Dije que nunca había oído hablar de esto antes, pero incluso el gerente se acercó y me dijo que necesitaba ingresar mi número de PIN. Le expliqué que no me gusta hacerlo, de ahí la razón por la que muchos usan contacto sin contacto, pero fue en vano. Es bastante triste que me hayan conocido por mi nombre durante años y no lo volverán a usar.

I’m writing this from the restaurant, booked a week ago got a table in the middle of the restaurant non stop people walking both sides of you no peace at all. Prosecco flat sent it back next glass the same. Food mediocre at best. We wouldn’t come back

We dropped in on the off chance of a seat this evening. Welcomed by 3 really friendly members of the staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our starters and also the mains. Good bottle of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc to wash it down. The place was spotless including the toilets. We have often thought we'd go in and never quite made it since the restaurant first opened in the 1990's!! We will be going again though. Perhaps at the weekend it would be a bit tight for the seating but we had gone in about 6 pm on a Thursday so it was OK

Have reviewed here before thought we would try midweek again as weekends are busy. food ok service ok but for me its still too crammed in. Then on checking Scores on the Doors a lowly 2, will wait a few years again.

Our first time at XIAN, and very good, restored my love of Chinese food, after some bad experiences at other places. The food was superb, and each dish came up well presented and at a good pace so we were not rushed over the courses. Staff very attentive, friendly service and good atmosphere. No hesitation to recommend this restaurant, and look forward to going again and enjoying another great meal. I would suggest that you book to avoid disappointment as restaurant very busy, and I can see why.

Don’t expect a quiet romantic night here. It is very good but very busy. The food is really good- everything perfect but it is noisy. Worth it for the food and service though. A real treat for the senses. You won’t be disappointed!

The service was excellent and the food was very delicious. The gentleman who serve us was very much customer orientated and was generous to offer me different wine to taste until I found the right one.

Another lovely dinner, cannot beat it! Wouldn’t go anywhere else for a chinese in the area. Perfect for a weekend dinner or celebration! Will keep coming back!

I have eaten in this restaurant many times over the years and have always enjoyed the excellent food including very good service, the ambience of the restaurant is 2nd to none with the owners and staff making you feel very welcome, almost like you’re part of the family.

Excellent food, served in good time. It's a great shame that they've crammed too many tables in, as it makes it feel claustrophobic & it's also very difficult to hold a conversation with your fellow diners without shouting constantly.

I went here with friends on a Friday night which was booked for 7pm a couple of weeks in advanced as it does get busy. We Was sitting down talking over drinks and felt a little rushed and pressured to pick our food by the waitresse. We had one of the set course. The food was very tasty not greasy at all. All the dishes came out pretty quick, and by the end we all were totally stuffed. It was a very enjoyable meal. I would like to come back here again to try more of the menu.

The customer service was appalling, none of the staff want to serve you or take your order, no customer checkbacks. Although most of the food was good, my friends had food poisoning after the meal. We ate there on Monday evening and it was the only meal we had together as a reunion. On Wednesday, I had a very bad fever and chills and had been throwing up. I had to take the day off work and have lost my appetite since and still feel sick. My friends have both felt sick as well as symptoms of food poisoning. One friend can't keep anything down him as he is so sick and has to go to A&E.; Someone really needs to check the hygiene of this place as clearly the restaurant does not care about the quality of its food or customer service.

Took my sister again to celebrate the occasion of the birthday of our late mother (2nd year on the bounce) for a midweek lunch. Both had a starter and main and a couple of soft drinks. As always restaurant was busy, service was excellent and food superb. If you haven't been - just go! If you have Chinese elsewhere - why??

We visited with my wife and 3 months old at lunch time and ordered their lunch set menu. Staff was smiling and neat all the time. All food was delicious, smoked chicken starter was amazing.

Our first time at this restaurant we had read about and it didn't disappoint. The staff were friendly and efficient with fast, good service. The food was stunning, way above the usual Chinese. Prices were reasonable and the house wine was good though I prefer jasmine tea with Chinese food so we had a big pot. A lively restaurant and plenty of people obviously local and returning. Best to book as it is very busy.

This is my favourite Chinese restaurant by far. The food is always amazing and service is always friendly and attentive. Small restaurant but full of atmosphere

We came across this restaurant after a visit to Crofton Roman Villa near Orpington station, it was a fair walk and we were quite peckish, we arrived about 1.0ish and were immediately shown to a table, we were quickly served with drinks and the fixed menu and the main menu, we all chose the fixed menu and it was more than enough for all of us, we just managed to clear it all but for a small amount of rice, during the whole meal we were attended to regularly, we were asked if we would like any deserts as the kitchen staff would like to go home, it was then that we realised we were the only people in the restaurant, we asked if we could order liquors and were told it was fine and when they came we were told not to rush as there was no hurry. All in all this was a very pleasant experience, great food, excellent service and the ambiance of the premises was nice. We left at 2.30 and assumed that the opening hours were 12.00 - 2.00 thoroughly recommend this venue, the cost was just under £60.00 including a bottle of wine and a pot of China tea.

This has got to be the number one Chinese restaurant south of the River Thames. All i can say is excellent. But you must book well in advance. Once you have been you will most certainly go back.

Ordinary food in a dated dingy and cramped place. Staff were very rude in their service and also hurt my little 8 year old in the way they moved the table. we decided to walk away. Enter if you like being served by aroggant rude people.

Y para una experiencia china más selecta / elegante, Kai, China Tang y Hakkasan también están cerca. Tengo la suerte de tener acceso fácil a la comida china de primera calidad.

Comí aquí un sábado por la noche para celebrar el cumpleaños de mi madre. Comenzó con un poco de sal y pimienta, calamares, champiñones y langostinos antes de pasar al marisco mixto con entremeses. Lo más destacado fueron los tostados de langostinos que eran dos veces más que los comidos en otros lugares y cargados con langostinos. Luego nos movimos en el pato crujiente rallado que bueno pero bastante estándar. Luego terminó con gambas en anacardo y frijoles amarillos, carne crujiente rallada, carne de cerdo agridulce, arroz especial para amigos y fideos de Singapur. Todo lo cual estaba bien, pero tal vez le faltaba un poco de profundidad de sabor. El restaurante estaba abarrotado, obviamente haciendo algo bien.

Yet again amazing food and a wonderful evening at Xians! Hands down THE BEST chinese around. Generous portions, food cooked to perfection and attentive staff. Most certainly will be coming back here!

Always pretty crowed for dinner. Staff are friendly and efficient. Food is excellently cooked with a wide variety of dishes. This is not the place for a small intimate meal as it is fairly noisy. This is no ordinary Chinese restaurant, the food is always very special, delicately seasoned and beautifuly displayed, the staff are very efficient and attentive. You have to book well in advance if you want weekend evenings but it is well worth a visit.

We ate here last many years ago and can’t believe the difference. We selected mostly old favourites from the extensive menu. Portions were large and beautifully presented. Will definitely visit again soon.

First time had visited for some years. Really delicious lunch, lovely flavours. Family business which you can tell as family really want you to enjoy your meal & have a really enjoyable experience.

Four of us came in and ate. The portions were very big and very delicious i would def come again it was a lovely evening.

After having this restaurant recommended by a friend we decided to take Mum there for Mothers Day Eve. I’ve been in greasy spoon cafes with more ambience than this restaurant! Tables crammed in and the noise is deafening. Service was very prompt but with absolutely no personal service, I don’t expect to have a chat but a smile would be a bonus! One of the starters was wrong and then one of the main dishes didn’t turn up till we’d nearly completed the meal. That said, the food was nice - nothing exemplary just ‘nice’. To top it all off the man who took the card payment simply thrust the machine at us then stood gazing into space as the payment went through, not one word did he utter - not even a thank you! Rude, miserable staff! Avoid!

Klein restaurant dat wat steriel aanvoelt maar de sfeer is er gezellig. de 'shareables' schotels zijn heel lekker. Goed om te weten is dat de hoeveelheid van deze schotels heel groot zijn, dus voor mensen met grote honger. Geen top keuken maar wel lekker. Personeel is heel gedienstig en vriendelijk.

Four of us went out for a meal to Xain on Saturday night excellent service food lovely as usual the place was very busy not one empty table but the service was very good cosidering they were so busy but they did it all with a smile well done.

We went there on a cold Wednesday night and didn’t bother booking thinking it would be half empty! .mWe walked up and down the High Street past many restaurants that were empty before finding Xian. To our surprise the restaurant was almost full and we got the last table.

Was taken here by friends who rave over the place and now I see why. Top quality food from an extensive menu. The place was packed. You have to book in advance for a Saturday evening meal. This has many many regulars which is always a very good sign.

Hidden Gem, I’ve read some reviews about Xian being expensive and the staff not being Friendly………Nothing could be further from the truth, The food is top quality and I’m a great believer of “You get what you pay for”, Sure you can go to a Chinese down the road and pay a few quid less but expect the quality to match the price.

First visit to Xian for a couple of years. Forgot quite how good a restaurant this is. The food is very tasty and well presented and the service is uber efficient. Always fully booked and has a great buzz. Will be returning very soon.

I first ate here some 20 years ago, my second visit was last month! There wasn't any reason for the absence, it just wasn't a restaurant on my usual list. I'm local and my brother suggested it after he'd seen the reviews on Trip advisor. Wow, what have I been missing. The food was excellent. The staff were extremely busy but as polite as they could be. Everything was presented well, tasted great and a doggie bag was provided without any fuss. It's now on my list of eateries and I will be returning soon.

We have been going to Xian for ten years and always had an excellent meal. The food is exceptional, fresh and very reasonably priced and the staff are always attentive. Can't recommend it highly enough. We have lived in various parts of the country and this is the only Chinese restaurant that we could recommend.

An excellent restaurant with first class service, great food, and a very friendly atmosphere. Good news it does not compromise these standards on its "take out" menu. If you are going at a weekend recommend you book at least a week in advance as it only does two sittings ( around 6-30pm and 8-30pm) and these places are taken very quickly. Also if you use the take away menu at weekends phone before 6-15pm or you will be getting the "engaged signal" for ages. Which probably tells you just how popular it is. It certainly is not a cheap place to eat , but once you have tasted their fare you will never want to go anywhere else.

The terracotta warriors are an amazing site, there are 3 pits of these figures which were initially found by a farmer digging in his field.

It was really busy but the staff carried themselves well and the food was great. You can see why it was busy. Great customer service.

Fine well prepared food from an extensive menu covering many far east varieties of food with a natural ambiance and briiliant staff

Booked again for 6 of us on Saturday night, 2 birthdays being celebrated and both wanted to come here! Mixed hors d'oeuvres (both types for 4 people) more than enough to start followed by the duck as ever, exquisit. Shared a selection of mains with noodles & beansprouts and whilst all claimed to be full, 2 managed a delicious toffee apple desert. Plenty of wine, G&T;'s and beer but still great VFM in my view. We will be back again, and again . . .

Refused to take telephone call on deaf relay service, continually hang up. Denied to access to book . Food might be good but because I have a disability I don get chance to try it
