Xander's Fish Bar in Sefton

We spent a week in Southport. Eating out in different restaurants every night. The best and real good value for money was the Xander's Fish Bar in the town. Well done guys. Keep up the good work.

My only experience of fish and chips in Southport but wouldn't bother with the rest now. Regular portion is more than enough and proper peas typical chip shop curry would try the hot one another time for variety but excellent non the less. Crispy battered fish and delicious chips nothing soggy at all. Sit in looks great lots of great pictures of old Southport around. Interesting menu with battered haggis and black pudding and some reasonably priced sharing boxes which work out cheaper, however to feed four adults for £26 is great these days. Definitely one not to miss on a visit to Southport also it's early season but they open later than most places. Staff were lovely willing to have a chat and seem very proud of the offer people come from all over for their food.

We turned up at 19.20 on Wednesday evening. WOW the ladies were cleaning up for the day, however they were so accommodating and cooked us what we wanted. We didn’t know this was the 1st Wednesday they were open due to school holidays. They double wrapped everything as we were 25 mins away the caravan and motorhome site. If you are in Southport make sure you take time to visit Xanders Fish Bar it’s well worth it. Thank you team Xanders

Called in today ,ordered large fish, chips and mushy peas, all good tasty quality, will call in again next time in Southport.

To be honest the chips looked and tasted days old.

The staff went above and beyond to make my brothers birthday treat special.brought a cake out and sang aswell.i would like to say a big thankyou to the three members working that day.the food was excellent,huge portions,the tea and coffee was also lovely. Everything was 10 out of 10

Before we ordered our lunch we were pleased how tidy and clean the establishment was. We would recommend it to anyone wanting a very appetising meal. Great menu, fantastic service, it’s going to be our to-go place when we visit Southport again.We called again two weeks later, same high-standards very good quality meals. Xanders is our to-go place from now on.

2.90 for a battered sausage is day light robbery I’ll walk to the counter with my pants down next time

The staff were busy getting ready for the tea time period but took time to ask and check order and the food (fish sharing box) was more than enough for 3 of us.

Ordered on there web site which had a fault so order didn’t go through but still allowed payment and charged me £32.20 phoned up only to have phone put down twice and no other way to contact

A great chippy for takeaway or dining in. Spotlessly clean, each table quickly cleaned and replenished as soon as diners leave. The food is delicious, fish cooked to order, the batter was light and crispy, the fish was huge and so fresh and tasty. Hot or mild curry sauce, both are amazing, and we got to try the hot before we decided, we liked that a lot, considering the costumer is key to good business. We couldn't fault this place, great customer service, delicious food and clean. What more can you ask for

Lovely atmosphere 👌 Regular portion more than enough But beer in mind , apart large(£ 11.95) and Regular(£9.95) there is a small portion (£7.95).,served with bred with butter and coffee or tea on your choice. Still have sanitaiser at the table, compare to enother one! It's important hygiene is priority! Many thanks to stuff. Great couple

Excellent service. The gluten-free options were extensive, and the staff were well aware of the importance of segregation. This will be our go to chippie whenever we are in the area.

I have been here a couple of times and will definitely go again. The staff were friendly and were constantly cleaning while I was there. There was a wide range of food on the normal menu. However, I am on a gluten-free diet and I have not been to another chippy that has more than one thing that is gluten-free. The menu also says they have gluten-free fish, chips, sausages and nuggets. While I was there they also mentioned that they had a fryer dedicated to being gluten-free that looked to be away from their other fryers.

They have a light-up "Open" sign that's permanently on, so just because it says it's open doesn't mean they actually are.

Food was excellent and the service was vey efficient and friendly Would eat here again

Lovely staff great food and a good range of variety.

I ordered from here and the food was very disgusting. The chips were cold, egg fried rice was cold and horrible. No egg in the rice. Pie was empty and the pastry was hard and dry it was awful. 2 hour delivery wait. Never again 😒

Came in today after a trip with the family. There was 8 of us 5 very hypo kids and my mother who is gluten free. All the staff was lovely handled the big order very well and the food was beautiful highly recommend

This was my first time having food from Xander's fish bar and it was great. We had the sharing fish platter. It was lovely, everything was freshly made and tasted delicious. All the food is great value for money especially the sharing platters. Me and my family were very impressed and we will definitely be coming back again.

Delicious fish and chips, especially the gluten free! The kids had a great time, the staff were really friendly and the rasperry sauce for the icecream was a big hit!

Great food, with excellent service from friendly staff. The prices and very reasonable, and the location is also extremely clean.

Just had the fish share box, that came with 2 fish, 4 x small sausage, absolutely loads chips and 4 pots of curry sauce (could choose from curry, gravy, beans or mushy peas). All of it was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious, couldn't believe how much you get in the box, we will definitely be back. Amazing value, would definitely serve 4 adults or 2 adults & 4 kids easily. All the staff were lovely aswell

Not a review, but please can you make the batter on your fish CRISPY, also , would you consider giving fish bits, scrap's... If you make your batter for the fish extra crispy that would be AWESOME.......

Called in on way home as we normally call in to another chippy at our end of town. Ordered what we normally have and have to say quality is excellent and the curry sauce is as I like it very hot not like some places mild and watery. Will definitely be ordering and eating here again.

Fantastic place... ate in andhad 'small' cod Special. £7.50 for fish, chips n mushy peas, bread n butter, hot drink...so fresh n tasty. Couldn't finish it!!! And a free sausage and bowl of water for our dog Pepper. Lovely staff, great value and service. Thank you so much, our new fave Chippy!!!

Popped in for fish and chip lunch, not been before. Bright and clean restaurant with subdued music. Helpful, friendly staff. No coffee machine - kettle and instant. Senior special- fish, chips, peas, bread and butter, coffee £7.50. No frills, no complaints. Perfect for me.

The food was 30 mins late, some items were cold and incorrect. The main problem with the food was that it had been obviously stored & microwaved before delivery, I've never had a fish so much like cardboard. The kids meal had been nuked along with a pack of jellied sweets, which had then melted to become one big mess of a sweet. A label on one of the boxes stating when it was made and noted to be used within 3 months!!! Absolutely shocking!!!

This is the best gluten free chippy there is, not just in Southport but the whole of Merseyside and Lancashire! I’ve eaten in and they keep the tables nice and clean but also had takeaways too, very pleased. I got meals for three, it’s good value too!

Just had the best fish and chips with mushy peas in Southport. Ive been to a few and these were superior by far. Food was nice and hot and the batter was excellent. Will be my first port of call for fish and chips in the future!! Fully recommend to go if you are looking for the best fish and chips in town. Also the gravy was fantastic and nice and tasty and homemade tasting,. Many thanks again!!!

The best fish and chips ever! The gravy was moreish, we couldn't get enough. Extensive menu. Dine in or take away. The man is clearly passionate about his business and takes pride in his work. Would highly recommend.

Oldschool chippie/fish bar, and the best I've had in Southport. Fish was fresh and the chips and batter were great. Cost just under a tenner to sit in and have fish, chips, peas and bread and butter with a cup of tea. Can't say fairer than that in this economy!

Rate it less than one star but unable to do so. Appalling service. One of the female staff took a piece of scampi from one of the warming shelves and ate it!!!! Food like cardboard and tasteless, although a hint of perfume pervaded. Took a few mouthfuls and gave up. Not a single member of staff asked if the meal was ok. As I left, I expressed my disgust at what I was served and had paid for. There was no apology or concern at my displeasure. The response to my complaint was dismissive and rude. All the management care about is taking your money. Customer satisfaction and pride in their work does not exist. Do not understand how other reviews are so positive????? Not impressed at all!!!!!

Just went in to get some food as we have eaten here before and the food has been absolutely amazing, no faults. Walked in tonight, most tables away from the door (cold) was dirty and hasn’t been cleaned with previous customers food left on the table. Restaurant wasn’t busy so no reason it wasn’t cleaned. Asked staff to clean the table so we could sit down, which was done but the worker had a clear attitude on her. Once the plates were gone, she moved onto another table, but the table we wanted to sit on still had food on it. We asked for it to be wiped to which she sneered and grumbled in agreement. We then walked out as the behaviour was shocking from a worker towards a customer. We will try again, as food is lovely. But think your staff need some more training

Always liked this chippy even before it was Xanders. Handy for my bus stop and location good.

This is my number 1. Dine in for Southport . You get a Smile on your face as soon as the Food arrives as it will be a proper Fish and Chips with mushy peas.tea or coffee. bread and butter . You have to go. I only give praise as you need to give XANDER'Sa visit.see photos 📸

Popped in after taking my daughter to splashworld waterpark. Such a nice place family owned girls behind the counter super friendly and great with my daughter really welcoming place. Food - really fresh food and made to order so its class quality and they are far from shy with portions we ordered regular it was a big meal Mild curry sauce my daughter loves it

I only occasiinally go to a chippie but I was really surprised how nice it was. Some places you can tell its not the freshest and it kinda puts you off. Steak and Kidney pudding was full of meat, gravy was really nice (some places its like wallpaper paste), and chips were yummy. Nice and friendly too. Deffinately come again when I want my comfort food. PS even got Gluten Free all cooked sepperately. How good is that. Well done ! 😋
