Wooler Milk Bar in Northumberland

Visited on Saturday 30/03/24 and place was heaving and did have second thoughts about waiting but stayed and glad I did. Girl serving was polite despite obviously them being so busy we had ice creams and milk shake whilst dogs had doggy ice creams Absolutely delicious and would recommend to everyone

Have followed on Facebook for while and always wanted to go but never had the chance to visit till today and it was really lovely, pleasant friendly staff, milkshakes are amazing me and my sister both had kinder ones, mum enjoyed her tea and gluten free cake, we even brought home milk and milkshakes from the vending machine outside, will be back again :)

We had milkshakes and cakes that were amazing. The chocolate ice cream was gorgeous too. We also used the milk vending machine numerous times during our holiday. A fantastic idea, delicious fresh milkshake and excellent value for money

The food was good but the guy who worked there was quite rude and unpleasant. There was an issue with the milkshake machine out the front of the store. You buy a glass bottle in one machine, then buy your flavour milk and fill it in a other. It's a cool idea; quirky! However, I clicked for a chocolate milk and it came.out caramel - no big deal, the flavour was clearly just in the wrong place. I went in the store, explained that the milk in my hand was caramel - looked like it, smelled like it, tasted like it! He said that it was milk chocolate and that's how it looks and tastes. I said it was clearly caramel. He refused to believe that the yellow milk in my hand was caramel and not chocolate, even after I said that someone has just pressed for caramel and got a brown milk. He wouldn't even look at it. I don't like caramel and wasn't wasting my money on another try. I binned it. Won't be back.

Had a lovely breakfast here and so glad they serve vegan and vegetarian food. The cakes were also wonderful and I bought two of the delicious cheese scones to bring home. Coffee was also good and the staff extremely friendly and welcoming. Definitely a place to return to.

They were able to serve the people in front of us but then shut the door and said they were closed I thought that was pretty appalling

We stayed at the riverside this week and popped across to the milk bar every morning and enjoyed a lovely bacon butty and a cup of tea the staff were so nice and helpful bring food and drink to us outside as we had our dog we popped back in the afternoon for a delicious ice cream.we will be back!!!

Popped into this place for a quick bite. Had a latte & pasty - which was delicious, & two cheese scones to take out.

Quirky place reminds me of a old American diner with a modern twist with great shakes and ice cream. Service was friendly and quick. Would definitely recommend a fun place to visit and they also serve a great breakfast.

We tried several different flavours of milkshake and had breakfast one morning too. The milkshakes are fantastic, sitting down to breakfast was lovely due to the great food and nice American diner type seating. But more than anything the service is so friendly. We loved it.

Wonderful Ice cream. Staying locally and had read the reviews, so wanted to try it for ourselves. Really creamy, flavoursome homemade Ice cream. We sat inside to eat. Well worth a visit. Good value too

This review and rating is about the Ice Cream stop we did rather than the breakfast stop which was... well less than good but lets move on from that, An Ice cream bar.. got to visit! Sun was shining but didnt trust the clouds so went to sit inside. Mums wheelchair just fitted in the door and we found a good place to park it indide, Now,,, which sundae to choose? I finally decided on the chocolate brownie one. (mum had a hot scone) it was massive! Very tasty and very good value for money! Oh they do breakfast we gottatry on our way home (we did but wish we hadnt - it was nasty)

Can never drive or walk past this Milk Bar without buying an ice cream, so many flavours it’s difficult to choose

Huge selection of delicious cakes (Rocky road with crunchie was great and huge) as well as Doddington ice cream and cheese (we had just done a walk from outside the farm itself)

What a fantastic wee place. Their milkshakes are amazing as is their ice cream. Prices were very reasonable. I recommend you try it.

We stayed at the caravan park across the road so visited twice, the ice cream is lovely, and so are the cakes! Nice selection and the hot food they serve looked lovely too, would recommend.

10/10 for the milkshakes this was the second time we used the milk bar and it was great the staff were very friendly

Passed through Wooler to visit a friend while I was on holiday in Northumberland, went to have an ice-cream, I ended up having two ice-creams; so yummy that I felt like I was in heaven. I'm celiac and they offer a variety choice of flavours served in a gluten free cone. And not only if you are celiac you can taste one of the most delicious gluten free cakes along with a hot drink. Located in suck wonderful setting with very friendly and polite staff, especially Tracey who served us. I hope to go back soon to have few more ice-creams.

Visited the Milk Bar on a cycle trip.Found the Doddington Ice Cream in the strawberry milkshakes was Quality. Refreshing, tasty and very cold in the heat. We also tried the the Tuna & Cheese & tomato panini’s with salad . Very good Staff friendly and Social distancing and seating areas a good standard . Used by locals & tourists and very popular Highly recommend

Well set up for social distancing. Bought lunch through a hatch. Paninis with salad were gorgeous. Hubby loved his sausage roll. And the milkshakes were incredible. I had the Oreo one - absolutely amazing.

I’ve always enjoyed Doddington Dairy ice cream but the Jaffa cake one was exceptional. It was so tangy I could still taste it an hour later. Despite the inside area being closed due to Covid restrictions the service was perfect and the staff very friendly and informative.

Fantastic products and a great range to choose from, the ice cream choices are great and all taste fantastic too.

Staying in College Valley so came into Wooler for lunch. Found the Milk Bar, brilliant little cafe. So good we came back the next day. The soups are the best we’ve ever had. Great food all round and very friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

We had lunch today at the Milk Bar and the red pepper and chilli soup was amazing with a lovely spicy kick. Your gluten free bread was so nice (where do you get it from?) my sons burger was fantastic and really meaty topped with Doddington cheese. Of course we had ice cream /sorbet and brought cakes away to eat at a later time. Tonight I had the lime and courgette cake, Gluten free and Dairy free WOW WOW WOW ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. home baking makes such a difference than the supermarket gf/df. Can't wait to return ❤️

What a great place - a piece of history. Coffee was amazing. Milkshakes were amazing. Soda float was amazing. Food was great. Service also very friendly. We’ll deffo be back soon.

Popped in to buy a cheese hamper as a Christmas present.....needless to say I will be making my own when they are charging £25 for a small hamper consisting of 200g if cheese, biscuits and a chutney. The cheese in the fridge is £3.77 for just over 200g the biscuits are £2 approx so they are charging £19 for the chutney and basket I’m not sure who priced these but that is ridiculous! On another note the milkbar is brilliant I am in regularly, the staff are good and coffee excellent I will continue to visit but will not be buying their Christmas hampers!

First visit and we were not disappointed. We both had the ice cream and we were both very pleased. The staff could not be more helpful thank you. I would recommend it saw a young man getting two milk shakes to take away they also looked lovely. We will go back.

A convenient location for this milk bar, service was quick which was ideal as we did not have time to spare on our journey southwards, drinks were as expected. Adjacent parking available.

We were so excited to find we were staying opposite this place but when visiting one weekday morning with a baby asleep in the buggy we wished we hadn’t bothered. Three members of staff ignored us at the counter for five minutes before we were able to place our order. Not even a hello. There were a few tables but it wasn’t full and one of the staff members was having a chat at a table walking past several customers trying to get her attention. We waited 25 minutes for two drinks, nervously anticipating our son waking up. Iced coffee and milkshake were yummy but small given the prices (the most expensive drinks we had the whole week we were in Northumberland, pricier than some meals) and the couple next to us got their coffees banged down in front of them long after they’d finished their breakfasts which they clearly weren’t impressed with. I think what was most disappointing was how soulless this place was. All of the staff seemed unhappy to be there and did their very best to avoid any eye contact with customers. We love Northumberland because the people here can never do enough for you and are so friendly but this was the one place all week where we felt unwelcome. We will not be visiting when we return to Wooler in the spring.

I have bypassed Wooler for years on my way to Edinburgh and back, but recently I stayed at a local caravan site and my son noticed the milk bar and asked to go in for a milkshake......There is so much more than just milkshakes and ice cream, although I'll admit it was mainly the Doddington ice cream I had. I thought the prices for all their food and drinks were excellent and the staff were friendly. We went a couple of times over the week and was never disappointed! I would recommend stopping at this milk bar to anyone, whether your just in the area or as I used to do on your way through Wooler as a stop off!

Excellent selection of milkshakes, well priced and great tasting Breakfast rolls slightly expensive and the bacon very fatty Recommend highly for milkshake/ice cream and the cakes look good also!

Both myself and friend ordered a burger, it was excellent quality with a side salad. The service was friendly and decided to order ice cream made by the Doddington Dairy. Everything priced reasonable for excellent quality. We will return again.

We went searching for Doddingtons Dairy Farm after having tasted the ice cream! Well they dont sell direct to the public anymore from the farm....BUT they do sell from a Milk Bar at Wooler....We were so relieved to have found the place after having searched for ages to find it...only to find they were closing in 15mins! The staff were so incredibly friendly they not only served us as if we had all day but let us use the facilities after theyd officially closed for the day. As to the ice cream....its to die for its even better than Haagen Daz and thats saying something! Gorgeous milkshakes as well as brilliant service...we didnt want to leave...Definitely well worth a visit...be warned you wont want to leave!!!! Thank you to the lovely ladies who looked after us!

Excellent coffee and ice cream. The carrot cake was very moist. I would visit again to have a milk shake and buy some local cheese.

We were staying just outside Wooler but had seen this on google before we arrived. We visited a couple of times during the week and I have to say the icecream was amazing and the flavours seemed to change each time.

Brilliant food. Well worth the money. We had panini which served with homemade coleslaw and salad. Kids had proper oven cooked jacket potato again served with coleslaw and salad.

For a daytime snack or meal, from breakfast till late afternoon, this place is perfect.

We visited the milk bar today (Sunday of bank holiday) and it was exceptionally busy as the ice creams and milk shakes are lovely. It was a shame that the floors, tables and chairs were filthy. I understand it is a very busy place on a hot day but I don’t think hygiene should be at shortfall to this. Standing the the que for our ice cream there was a water substance dripping from the air conditioning until (that was either not on or not working) and cobwebs in every corner and every fitting. It would have been a much more pleasant experience should it have been moderately clean.

Wonderful lunch as usual. Staff so welcoming even when really busy. My favourite place for coffee. But please please can someone put a ‘soft closer’ on the door because when it is really busy with people going in and out the noise is awful.

Called in for ice cream and coffee. Service was excellent. Granddaughter was offered a taste of any of the selection of ice creams. Both ice creams we bought were delicious and creamy. Coffee was brought to our table - freshly ground and hot with a square of fudge and milk in a miniature milk churn. Nice touches.

There’s really no need for me to write a long review here, after all, it’s not like this place is a 5 star restaurant. However, if it was, it would deserve all 5 stars for it’s ice cream alone!

We picked up a leaflet for here in an antique centre and went looking for it. The sat-nav was a bit dodgy but then suddenly it was there. Love it when somewhere is a bit different, this is quirky and worth a stop. Lovely ice cream too.

We are holidaying in Wooler and have visited this ice cream parlour 2 days running on our way back to the house after activity day’s out!!! We have tried a variety of their ice cream sundaes and flavoured ice creams on waffle cones and milkshakes and have not been disappointed in any of them. Absolutely amazing flavours and a large variety of them too. The staff are lovely and friendly and we were allowed to taste a couple of the flavours before choosing what we wanted. Although only small it is very clean although at very busy times the tables may not be cleared so quickly but after asking about a sticky table they were very quick to come and sort it. I cannot recommend this ice cream place enough except to say if we were staying nearby much longer than a week I may need a bigger size in trousers xx

Such a treat. The most excellent ice cream I've had in a long time. Ginger and salted caramel in a chocolate sugar cone. Beware the melting ice cream towards the bottom of the cone. It is delicious and will go all over you if your are not careful!!!!!

We were staying North of Wooler and saw the milkshake bar when passing. Called in beginning of the week, dog friendly outside seating, so that is a bonus. The 3 if us had different shakes and as always tried each others. All were very nice but the skittles one is very sweet. Decided to have a second visit and once again the staff were so friendly and the shakes were lovely. Cannot decide if l prefer the banana or chocolate, will have to come back next year to try more.

Stopped at doddingtons to try the milkshake and wasn't disappointed full of flavour. Had a lovely jacket potatoe and a fruit scone with jam and clotted cream also very nice

I have been working in Wooler for the past 18 months and as I travel quite a distance to get there I always set off early and have the A697 breakfast everyday with a pot of tea. The quality of the food is spot on as it is sourced from local suppliers and it tastes delicious. Suffice to say I always leave feeling well satisfied.

We really enjoyed our lunch here and thought the food was excellent value for money. The place is small and busy but we managed to find a table. A lot of people come here for the great milkshakes and ice cream but we wanted something more substantial and I was delighted to find I could have a sandwich with vegetarian sausages. The staff are very friendly and the whole place has a nice atmosphere. There are a few tables outside, plus of course the diary cow!

A big group of us stayed at the riverside park and over the course of the weekend sampled lots from here, cakes, breakfasts, milkshakes.... all were lovely but the milkshakes and ice creams especially 👌

We always visit the Milk Bar when in Northumberland. Lovely panini and Welsh rarebit. My husband had a strawberry milkshake which he said was the best he’s ever had! The coffee is nice and strong with good facilities for families inside and out. 100% recommend!

The Milk Bar is a place to go if you are wanting a place to meet up with your Friends or if you are wanting somewhere to go for a Tea / Coffee and a light snack.

Been here before and never been disappointed. Superb, strong coffee and a wide variety of delicious cakes at VERY reasonable prices make this a definite stopover if ever pasing through Wooler.

On a day trip to the area we decided to pop in for lunch and were pleasantly surprised at the great selection and standard of fayre, particularly the ploughman’s which came as a huge plate with bread, local artisan crackers, a large wedge of home produced cheese, ham, fruit x4 varieties plus coleslaw and chutney -yum! Quirky place, attentive service and even better was the delicious ice creams we followed our lunch with.

Visited with my friend in the way back from Alnwick and thought we’d call in! Staff were friendly and quick! We had a mars bar crispy and a rocky road! Both were lovely and very tasty! £8 for 2 traybakes and 2 drinks is very reasonable!!

My husband and I were looking for somewhere to have a light bite and had almost given up when we saw The Milk Bar. We nearly drove past as we though it was just a milkshake parlour but we pulled and and I looked at a menu from the outside. We saw that light meals were available until 5pm and we went inside.

Lovely little cafe with unreal selection of ice cream and milkshakes. The kids and grown ups loved it. Was always busy and serves breakfast with lunch and snacks.

Popped into Doddington milk bar after a long walk. The staff were welcoming and the place was spotless. The amount of choice was amazing for a relatively small cafe. We both had ice cream sundaes with chocolate brownie pieces. The brownie was delicious and stayed squidgy even in the ice cream. The ice cream itself was excellent and the flavours on offer were a nice mix of the classics and some interesting options. I can wholeheartedly recommend the white chocolate and Malibu!

Fab selection of ice cream flavours. My 7 year old son chose an Oreo ice cream and a strawberry milkshake and described them as "delicious". Will definitely be back.

You’ll be spoilt for choice here including diary free alternatives. A lovely opportunity for a sweet or savoury treat at a price that won’t break the bank 😊

Today I had the pleasure in returning to the Milk Bar as a highlight in visiting the small town of Wooler. The food offering was again as good as my last visit, presented nicely by the most friendly and courteous staff. Clearly the finest quality ingredients is used, not to be confused with cheaper fast food outlets, here everything is cooked to order at reasonable cost. I’m left with confidence I will experience the same on my return in the coming months.

Great visit and very busy for a Sunday, great ice cream and price what you'd expect. Prop best for a summer visit as a small shop

We holidayed in Wooler for a week in the Riverside Caravan Park over the road from the Milk Bar. (Great Deluxe Lodge there, must do other review!)

Took the grand kids in for a Milk shake, they were over the moon they said they was the best milk shakes they ever tasted

We’ve visited the Milk Bar a number of times with family members and have always enjoyed the food. The milkshakes made with Doddington Ice Cream are our grandaughters favourites. The mini ones are perfect for little ones. It’s certainly a place that all of our family will go to time and time again.

We were staying at the local holiday park and visited on a Sunday after having been swimming. Wow, wish we'd visited Friday and then we could have gone in every day over the weekend. The kids and my hubby had a milkshake but I opted for the waffles and I'm so glad I did. It was way more than I was expecting, it look amazing and tasted even better. Absolutely delicious and hubby and kids were only allowed a little taste as I didn't want to share. Hoping me might get chance to call in again tomorrow before we leave. If not then if we visit the area again we will definitely be back.

My two daughters and husband opted for ice-creams which were delicious and i had a milkshake. The cakes looked equally good, and we were surprised to see paninis and burgers on the menu and agreed that next time we are in the area we'll be back to sample more delights! Also, the place was spotlessly clean. Recommended.

Great food, generous portions of salad or coleslaw to accompany one's choice and sensibly priced. I returned here twice he will make a point of coming again next time I am in the Northeast. There was a nice selection of cheeses that you can buy to take away. I bought some as gifts to take home. I didn't have any ice cream but my companion did he loved it. thy were advertising take away packed lunches for hikers too which seems like a very good idea.The butternut squash and lentil pastie was the nicest thing I have tasted in a long while and I be tried to recreate it at home but it's the Dodingtons cheese that made all of the difference. One of my party was pregnant me so wanted to avoid unpasteurised milk cheese; the staff couldn't have been more helpful and happily replaced it with pasteurised milk cheese which is used in the children's menu.

As a returning customer after about three previous visits I thought to highlight both mine and my friends latest experience. Both of us ordered burgers and teas, the presentation and quality was particularly outstanding. After complementing our satisfaction to the friendly staff, we learned that they sorced their meat locally as much of their products on offer. The Milk Bar is owned by the local Doddington dairy farm, so they sell cheeses etc.. including their ice cream, which we heard other customers praising its quality. All in all and excellent experience and we look forward to visiting here again soon.

Oh glory! A bowl of home made soup that I am sure was big enough to swim in!!!! A meal in itself! Hubby had the home made quiche of the day - equally delicious! Excellent menu to eat in plus can take out. Obviously it also sells the local cheeses, straight from the farm, as well as own ice cream. A dairy lovers paradise!

Had the best fruit scone with jam & cream ever... great coffee & milkshake. Traybake, cakes, ice cream everything was fantastic. Hot and cold snacks you can eat inside or out. Staff were lovely and even gave our dog a sausage!.

We went to the Riverside caravan park and decided to visit the Milk Bar as it was a two minute walk from the park. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the coffee was excellent. The milkshakes were delicious and the food was too, all made with the produce from the Doddington dairy, which is not far away. This place is a little gem! The way a REAL cafe should be!

A great little stop right next to the A697, whether you're after breakfast, lunch or just a treat. Doddington's dairy cheese and ice cream are absolutely incredible, and the freshly cooked food served at the milk bar is just as good!

We stopped off here for lunch on the way south from Scotland. Service was friendly. Our group had a selection of dishes - paninis, baked potato and rarebit, ice-cream, coffees and milkshakes. Everyone very much enjoyed what they had - thumbs up all round for the milkshakes, ice-cream and cheese. While the cheese was delicious, those of us who had the rarebit thought it was let down by the bread which seemed to be supermarket white sliced loaf. Nice salad and coleslaw with each dish though.

Visited the Milk Bar on a road trip back from Scotland to London. We were driving past and quickly decided to turn the car around as it looked really good. We were served by Heather who was really lovely and she kindly let us try the ice cream whilst buying coffees. That little tester spoon compelled us to buy the ice cream, without doubt the tastiest ice cream I have ever eaten. I went for White Chocolate and Raspberry flavour and it was simply amazing. Thanks Heather!

Enjoyed two visits here , when in the area for the weekend. Brilliant choice of ice creams. Also lovely choice of breakfasts and sandwiches etc.

Excellent coffee and cake, great staff and immaculately clean, really nice feel when dinning, Paula and Chris from Wigan.

We had a vanilla milkshake, a Ferraro rocher ice cream, a raspberry sorbet and a slice of Malteser cake. Sat in the sunshine outside and enjoyed, all absolutely delicious! Well worth a little detour.

Amazing little place!! I had a kinder bueno milkshake and my partner had a strawberry milkshake they were amazing we also had some ice cream which was the nicest we’ve had lots of flavours to choose! We will deffo be back, lovely place to sit outside and inside.

This is a small shop with some inside seating and to be found just as you get to Wooler. The main attraction has to be the excellent local ice cream. A reasonable range of flavours and excellent quality. Well worth hunting out if you are in the area.

Excellent in every way. Welcoming - everyone, including the customers, was friendly. Comfortable, easily accessible, very good food, most of it locally sourced, much of it from the farm itself. They work hard here and deserve to be very successful.
