I've worked my way through most of Woods' 'mains', so opted for two 'starters' - salmon rillette, then duck liver parfait (get the full works off their website). A concentrated chocolate tart with pistachio ice cream to follow; and to drink, a lovely complex Noelia Bebelia Albarino (for which you'd pay at least 50 quid in most other places with the now usual 3x mark-up, but not here). Some slightly soggy (to my taste) chips were immediately replaced with the crispest of fries. Woods seems to have abandoned their previous policy of making most wines under £100 available by the glass. Otherwise, Paddy and co have got it absolutely right. My wife is a fan too..

This was recommended in the leaflet given out at a local CAMC caravan site. Looking for somewhere to celebrate our anniversary we went for it and were certainly not disappointed. A really great meal and after starter and main we even managed to share a delicious pud! Friendly efficient staff and a pleasant ambience. If we lived nearer this would become a regular haunt.

What a find! Paddy & Sally the Couple that own/run this Establishment are not only friendly but are Unique Characters that echo the Establishment. The Cuisine was off the Highest Quality & the Beer was in fine fettle. The wine list was extensive & priced very reasonable. The Staff were also very friendly as was the local characters that frequented the Cosy Bar Area. Our Meals for the 4 of us, were Delicious, probably the Best Lamb that I have tasted. The Cheese Board was Excellent & Paddy, bless Him capped the night by giving me a Complimentary Glass of Port on the House!

We went for lunch while staying near Dulverton, and both ordered the seabass dish. It was delicious and beautifully served. The wine by the glass was also excellent; both red and white. The sorbets I had for dessert water fantastic - blackberry is an unusual flavour to have as sorbet. The only diner was the cheese board was well over-priced at £9 for only 4 small pieces of cheese. It would have been ok at £5, but was rather meagre compared to most cheeseboards we've ordered elsewhere. We would go again. I've rated service as very good because the waitress was friendly and helpful, but it was rather slow - they were very busy; maybe a COVID effect. Fortunately we had time.

We booked in advance for Sunday evening Dinner. We were first in at 6.45pm. The staff were lovely and the meal was truly excellent. we tried to book again in the week and couldn't as it was full ! We would definitely visit again. Many thanks to the whole team.NB for the owners: we were surprised at how many people were around the Bar which we had to pass through...difficult to keep social distancing. Whilst the staff all wore masks , a gentleman (the owner?) with longish grey hair visited almost all the tables (except ours!!!!) taking orders and serving...without any mask or shield. He may have a legitimate reason, but it was unusual and a bit off-putting.

We ate at this restaurant during our stay in Dulverton. We booked in advance as the online menu looked amazing. We were not disappointed. The food was amazing. All locally sourced I believe. The owner was a wealth of information on wine, most bottles he has he will sell by the glass, which came in very handy as I was drinking white while my husband was wanting red. We ate at this restaurant on two separate evenings during our stay in Dulverton. On both occasions the food was of very high quality, the wine was good and the general ambience and service very good. As often happens, there is something you fancy on the menu that sounds delicious apart from the one component part (usually an accompanying sauce)that you don’t fancy!! It was no trouble for adjustments to be made, and it was much appreciated. If we were ever in the area again, we would definitely eat there again!

We ate about mid day on a Sunday, the restaurant was not overly busy. We had not booked but were given the choice of eating inside or outside in the small courtyard garden, we chose to eat outside. The establishment is clean, inviting and well appointed. Social distancing and Covid 19 protocols were in place. if the weather is good enough do try eating in the small courtyard. The service was excellent, the young ladies who served us were friendly, polite, professional and a credit to the establishment. We were attended to quickly but not rushed. We were asked a few times if everything was ok but did not feel intruded upon. The food served was nothing short of excellent. The portions were good, it was very well cooked and well presented. We could not find fault with the food or hot drinks at all. Our compliments to the chef. As I have said we could not find fault at this time with any aspect of our visit and would highly recommend eating here. We will go back.Well done Woods.

Wine list was comprehensive and we tried a Washington state Riesling and a SA pinotage.Starters were scallops and parsnip purée delicious but the three scallops were tiny so we thought the portion a bit mean, also Asian mussels that had a delicious sauce. Bread is served with the starters which was disappointing as it was sliced. Mains were plaice and brill both well cooked. A selection of cheeses completed our meal. Really enjoyed ourselves.

Great to be back in Woods again after its lockdown closure. The personal protection measures in place were discreet but reassuring. I had a perfectly cooked lamb shank and my partner a big and juicy lamb-burger. A shared Eton Mess to follow. A great lunch but two small niggles: one, we've had crisper chips before at Woods (we mentioned this to the waitress); and two, if you have a fabulous wine-list, as Woods does, the wine glasses should be large enough to do the wine justice. But Woods remains the best place to eat and drink for miles around.

We shared a started of foie gras and onion marmalade - which was pleasant. I then had the plaice with walnut and shrimp crusting. The fish was nicely cooked and moist, the topping was nice but could have done with a little more and maybe just crisped up a bit to give a crunchier texture above the fish but having said that very pleasant, chips were great. One of our group had the guinea fowl and it was really delicious beautifully cooked tender and accompanied by fondant potatoes and a little leg rissole. We all had puddings, the brûlée with liquorice ice cream was very nice - all were finished. Wines are excellent with good choices and reasonable prices. Yet another successful and enjoyable visit.

Our 5th year of living in Dulverton and our 5th year of attending the Beaujolais Nouveau event. For this event, they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (apparently, some people book for all 3!). The chefs here are always great, we have never had a bad meal here but they go mad for this day! The menu must take them ages to put together let alone prepare. Everything has a strong French influence but using amazing fresh, local produce wherever possible. We both ordered the French onion soup which was remarkable, I can only imagine the time needed to get that depth of flavour. Although we knew we had ordered a large main meal, we couldn't help but also order a bowl of French fries with French cheese and grated winter truffle - Oh my goodness!! Wish these were always on the menu! We enjoyed a glass of Beaujolais when we first arrived (remarkably good this year) then took Paddy the owners recommendation for wine with our meal once we had ordered. Wow! Highly recommend asking for advice about wine choices. We are not complete novices but we are always blown away by Paddy's interpretation of the type of wines we like and the food we have ordered. He never fails to exceed our hopes and deliver a stunning wine no matter what the price bracket. As ever, Paddy's waiting and bar staff are utterly delightful and just add to a very special evening.

However, last night we had Paddy (the owner) personally pair wines to go with every course of our meal. Amazing! The food was, as always, stunning but made even more special with perfectly chosen wines which enhanced everything. Paddy's knowledge of wine is exceptional and is so generous with his time. Being so passionate about wine means that he clearly takes great pleasure from ensuring he finds the perfect one for you and your food. It really is no surprise that Woods has won "National Wine Pub of the Year" so many years in a row. There are wines to suit every budget and all are carefully chosen. So please, take advantage of Paddy's encyclopaedic knowledge of wine and open your mind to trying different wines, you really won't regret it!

Our first visit- we were renting a house in the area but didn’t want to cook every night. We couldn’t have chosen any better. There were 11 of us and sometimes catering for that number can be problematic. However, not here. All the food came out together. There was not too long a wait between courses but neither where we rushed. The staff were friendly and professional at the same time. The wine list was excellent and we were given good advice - they didn’t try to push more expensive wines as some places do - in fact one that was recommended to us as a substitute was actually slightly cheaper. Delicious

Every time we visit Dulverton we have a meal at Woods. The food again was beautifully cooked and full of flavour. The Turbot was on point and the prawns tasted fresh. The chef changed the bacon sauce for me because I'm Pescatarian. My wife had the vegetarian risotto which she enjoyed. For dessert I had strawberry cheesecake with I think, almond ice cream and my wife had chocolate mousse both delicious. The wine list is extensive and though I was having fish the Rousillion, le Roc des Anges beckoned me having enjoyed Rousillion wines in the past. The service was excellent, the atmosphere welcoming, the food tasty and well presented and the price was....well it is Woods and the food is delicious.

Booked last minute. Very welcoming and the restaurant is dog friendly. Started with the "ethical" foie gras followed by skate wings. The quality of food was excellent and above our expectations. Finished off with sticky toffee pudding and chocolate mousse. A memorable meal in this quirky little restaurant. Highly recommend.

We were celebrating our wedding anniversary whilst staying near Exmoor and Woods was recommended to us for a celebratory lunch with a friend. Lovely first impression and starters were all good. Our friend ordered fish and chips for his main course. The fish was clearly overcooked when it arrived as the batter was dark brown and a little too crisp! Not wanting to make a fuss, he ate most of the meal although the fish was dry. He left the batter, of course. After the meal, our friend commented on the meal and, as a gesture of goodwill, the price of his meal was reduced by about £4. The occasion was ruined and we cannot understand why the chef and the waiter thought that it was acceptable to serve overcooked fish?

We had to book three days in advance which is usually a good sign. The first impression was like a standard pub - people sitting outside drinking pints, and when you first go in, you are in the public bar. We were then shown to our table, and enjoyed a wonderful evening with excellent food and wine. We had to wait a while for the main courses, but there were people at every table so that probably explains the delay. Friendly staff, whonwelcomed a well behaved dog. One slight difference from expectations was the bottle of wine was already opened when it was brought to our table. It was very nice, but I had expected it to be opened at the table.

We were invited here by good friends as this is Kevin’s favourite place to eat. We had a really good meal and were impressed by the wine list, which was more of a book than a list. Plenty to choose from for sure. This is obviously a very popular place to eat as every table was either full or reserved. This meant that you could guarantee that you would be waiting for your food but it also meant it was freshly cooked. I would highly recommend it if you are in the area.

My experience was very good overall and would go again . The atmosphere was pleaseanttry until an unruly family came in but that is the nature of the beast.my wife and I went for lunch and for starters I had the asparagus and potato soup with truffle which I had never had before and it was beautiful.my wife had the foil gras parfait which was also stunning.for mains my wife had the skate wing which was phenomenal.i had the honey glazed sausages egg and chips which I found disappointing because the sausage could be far better for meat content.then my wife had the chocolate mousse with all the trimmings which again was magnificent.the service was a bit slow but they were polite when at the table hence the tip. Really pleased overall.

We had a great evening here on Friday. The food was fantastic, a little bit different, beautifully presented and delicious. The staff who served us were friendly but unobtrusive and let us enjoy a leisurely evening. We enjoyed everything but particularly loved the chocolate mousse and the apple and cucumber sorbet. We would highly recommend

Spent two evenings out of a three night visit on Exmoor at Woods. Staff couldn't be more obliging, locals welcomed my wife and I like old friends and food and drink was top notch. No need for frills, bling or fashion of the day just an acceptance of local ways is all you need to wear. Book in advance if you want to eat in the restaurant side if you don't want to be disappointed.

We visited on Easter Sunday. It was full, as you would expect, but the service was still excellent. The menu had got real thought behind it and we could soon see why it has 2 AA rosettes. All three courses were beautiful. There was only one vegetarian main (gnocchi) but it was one of the nicest gnocchi dishes I have ever had. The goat sausages my other half had were different to the usual sausage options. We both thoroughly enjoyed our visit and if we are ever back this way it will be the first place we book to eat!

Woods offers well presented award winning dishes but at an affordable price plus you can take your best four legged friend. We opted for the lamb and were treated to an amazing mixture of fare that teased the tase buds followed by creme brulee accompanied by chocolate ice cream and a cookie which did the same. The food was cooked just right bringing out all the flavour and textures for both the main and desert with the exception of the potato. In our opinion it offered nothing to the lamb dish tasting watery and occassionally bordering on undercooked but just a minor blip to an otherwise outstanding meal at an unbelievable price and would go again if in the area.

A hungry pair of travellers we happened upon Woods. Although we hadn't booked and there was no space at the inn, a very kindly local couple moved tables so we could have a meal - and what a meal. After an enjoyable drink at the bar we both decided upon Omelette Arnold Bennett which came with a lovely dressed salad. Beforehand, we were treated to a delicious amuse bouche of cheese croquette with a slightly curried tomato relish. The omelette was perfect with plenty of smoky haddock and little nuggets of cheese. I followed with coffee crème brulee. Good flavour, silky crème and the brulee was generous served with chocolate ice cream on chocolate crumb. We were also treated to a petite four of Easter egg fudge - again mouth watering. Make a special journey to this place - don't forget to book. Its popularity shows its worth. A small "front-room" size, no frills bar but which has charm and character without needing to try hard and a slightly bigger dining room. Simple, good food cooked and presented well with discrete but friendly service. Do it, just go and be treated to excellent food at a very reasonable price.

We visited Woods again today and had a delicious lunch. Beautiful restaurant, quirky, eclectic and so cosy, with a roaring fire. A well stocked bar and very friendly staff to greet and serve us. My daughter had the lamb burger, which she said was the best she had ever tasted. It was a special treat on our holiday and we will definitely be back at Christmas. The local Dulverton small batch Northmoor Gin is just wonderful! Thank you to all at Woods for a perfect lunch!

We ate here about eight years ago and remember enjoying the experience and this time was no exception. The tables are cosy and private being partitioned by old stable-like woodwork and is furnished in an eclectic mix of characterful furniture with a roaring wood burner to add to the warmth. The bar area was packed with jovial drinkers adding to the atmosphere (it's separate from the dining area if you're looking for a quieter meal). The staff were amazing; really authentically friendly and so efficient and well trained. Nice to be shown our Santenay 1er Cru before opening, the proper way! The sea bass and sirloin were cooked to perfection and we can't fault the experience. The owner or manager made a point of seeing us out and asking if everything was ok for us. Really enjoyable evening and experience, Saturday evening and faultless - thoroughly recommended.

Well you no doubt have read reviews but let me assure you that this is no ordinary restaurant as the food is absolutely superb. The sirloin steak I had was the best that I have ever eaten and was delicious. The crème de la crème was the sticky toffee dessert which was unbelievable. Loads of nuts, beautiful sauce, ice cream and a wonderful bit of sticky toffee - worth the visit just for this! This truly is a marvellous find and I fully recommend this establishment.
