Wimpy in Basingstoke and Deane

Had a great breakfast here, and staff were very accommodating to serve us brekkie just before 11.30am. Food was great and big shout out to Julian who served us. He was really polite and friendly, a credit to Wimpy 😊

Must say fantastically & efficiently run restaurant, all the staff were excellent and asked all the right questions, the manager was also very accommodating and he has a great team.

food was alright, chips were good as always. staff were pretty unenthusiastic with the exception of one lad, appeared to be his first day, he was attentive and helpful. The other three boys grouped together near kitchen and just made us feel watched and judged and made my partner uncomfortable. they even hit each other time: 1532 22/06/2023 (visible to customers and cameras) one started shadow boxing too, just really unprofessional, probably won’t return for a little while

The staff here are so polite and friendly, very welcoming and the place is clean and tidy , What let it down was the prices and the minuscule portion . For two quarter pounders with cheese and chips and a hot chocolate and sprite , the bill came to a whopping £27.04 , Very very expensive and sorry the portion size isn’t worth the money . I know prices have gone up everywhere but will sadly avoid this place from now on . It’s a fast food burger place , you can pay the same for a restaurant in Windsor .

Took our young grandson to the Festival Place Discovery Centre and at lunchtime decided to give the Wimpey a try as it’s nextdoor. Plenty of booth seating and staff were attentive and helpful. Grandson appreciated the dice game which we all played and it kept him busy while waiting for our food order. The Wimpey chain was one of the first (if not the first?) fast food eateries in the UK and nice to see it’s still surviving - ambience is far better than the more well known brands and prices are reasonable was well.

I have reviewed before but feel this restaurant needs recognition for its customer service and cleanliness. Visted today for brunch and the service recived from a young lad (who was a trainee) was impeccable. Also the manager is very attentive. Other establishments should take a leaf out of their book. It is a pleasure to visit..plus reasonable prices.

I dont know who wrote all the good reviews, or how much they were paid to write them, but they are absolutely 100 percent false. £26 for 2 people to have burgers, fries and one drink, for truly the worst meal I've ever had in my life. Dry, tasteless burgers, that didn't even taste like beef. Chips were the bargain Iceland type. Flat Pepsi in a pint glass that was 80 percent ice. The dollar menus at the fast food places are head and shoulders above this slop they claim is food. I would be ashamed of myself if I ran this place. I would have mentioned this at the restaurant, but of course no one bothered to ask. Because of course they already know the muck they sell. Avoid at all costs.

Well placed in Festival Place Basingstoke. Recommend the sweet potatoe fries. Clean environment with attentive servers. Meets expectations re quality of food, mains and puds. No complaints, cheap and cheerful and beats the competition. Thanks.

Our go to place for breakfast in Basingstoke. Always great service and the staff are all lovely. Nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend.

A vey busy Saturday lunchtime in Festival Place. Well managed Covid-19 mitigations. Friendly service, good food and value for money. We enjoyed our meal and the service provided. Please be mindful that the toilets are down 2 flights of stairs.

Although I’ve reviewed this branch before - it’s been well over 6 months since I was last in but I can say standards haven’t dropped. The team have adapted well to the Covid-19 situation and the way in area is really clean. My order was cooked perfectly with special requests fulfilled. The staff are polite and helpful - no complaints at all!

Popped in for a quick bite to eat on Friday afternoon. We ordered two mains, two drinks & 2 desserts & it was less than £19! Food was piping hot & tasted great. Desserts are on a BOGOF deal so a really good deal! The restaurant was lovely & clean, the staff were cleaning & clearing tables as soon as customers left. Waitresses were very friendly & attentive & table service is always nicer than having to order at a counter. Would highly recommend!

With Wimpy, you are not expecting anything mind blowing when it comes to the dining experience - it is a simple, cafe like setting and a basic range of food centred on burgers. All this said the restaurant was immaculately clean, the service was prompt and polite, the food was as ordered with good size portions and the meal was good value for money. Sure this isn't somewhere you take a date, or seek out a posh meal but for food whilst out shopping in Basingstoke, it fits the bill.

Haven't been in a Wimpy for years. I wondered if they still served the icecream float, and they do. The food was nice, excellent service as well. Looking forward to going back again soon.

I’ll assume you know the basics of a Wimpy - as a child of the 70s and 80s it’s very much as I remember it with lots of the classics on the menu alongside new ideas.I visit this restaurant perhaps once a month for lunch (or an all-day breakfast) and the food is always hot, fast (cooked to order but it’s quick stuff mostly) and exactly what you’d expect it to be.The staff are what makes this more than just a burger/fast food restaurant - they are always welcoming and accommodating. There are always plenty of them too which means efficient service and a very clean restaurant. This has been a favourite of my son for many years as he prefers less noisy environments and music is quiet and tables are well spaced with some booths and alcoves.

An excellent burger with potatoes....lovely ice-creams & Milkshakes. I've tried thisone one day with my spanish friend, & I loved it from the first time that I've seen it. In Italy I didn't know it.

I’m not a fan of Quorn as a rule. However, after trying my husband’s Southern fried Quorn chicken burger and it not tasting like Quorn. I knew I had to come back and order one myself. They don’t use the same southern fried patty as in the supermarket, which I don’t like. It’s a different milder formula and they give it this kfc type soft coating. It’s absoutely delicious! For the best veggie chicken burger, you must go to Wimpys. The chips are lovely as well as is their mango smoothie and strawberry shakes.

I don't want to sound snobby, but it's chavvy crowd that this place attracts which detracts from the good and cheap food. Nothing much to be done about that.

Love the burgers here, staff very friendly, relaxing atmosphere, food delicious, lots of variety on the menu, will be back for sure.

Visited Wimpy Basingstoke this week, and as per usual, found it to be a very pleasant Experience all round!

Today after school I needed to pop into town and thought as I had to drag my 2 sons along I thought I'd treat them to a wimpy.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality & value of the food & service. Dining out can be quite stressful for a family of 5 with 6mo but we were seated & served quickly with the server reassuringly accommodating us incl. with my vegan wife with adapted Spicy Quorn Burger. All the family enjoyed their meal & the experience incl. the boys playing a board game provided by the restaurant. My Quarterpounder Club was delicious and my eldest rated his International Grill all day breakfast too. I would highly recommend this restaurant to all and we now expect to become regulars so we’ll be returning soon, perhaps with milkshakes & desserts next time! This team were a credit to the company, especially the manager & the server. Why not give it a try?!

Went here as a mid-day treat, the burgers here are just delicious as are the fries and onion rings, only traumatic thing was that we didn't have time to have a Knickerbocker Glory, my childhood favourite as it is the very best at Wimpy. Staff always friendly and efficient. Can't wait for our next visit.

We visited today with our nine year old grandson. We hadn’t been in a Wimpy for about 40 years! We were acknowledged the minute we walked in the door and made to feel very welcome. The cafe looked spotless with no dirty tables or scruffy menus. We had our drinks order taken immediately and given time to choose our lunch. The waitresses seemed happy in their work and very pleasant to speak to.

Saw this Wimpy and just had to come in to eat. Just love the burger and chips and the price is so good. Loved it.

Still loving the Wimpy Bar! Enjoyed the old classic wimpy special grill and it tasted just as good as it did 40 odd years ago!!! Followed it up with a brown derby and perfection!

Wimpy in Festival Place is currently our favorite place to get breakfast in town of a weekend. We've tried many places over the years. We tried Wimpy a few months ago and we are still using. the breakfast sausage and hash brown muffins are amazing.

As a regular customer to the Wimpy in Basingstoke sadly it has plummeted from favour, Heinz ketchup has been replaced with a cheap and nasty vinegar falavored red sauce, the milk shakes taste like a cheaper ingredient is now being used, service was still very good and very quick and the prices are still reasonable but they have lost me and my family as customers due to their penny pinching tactics. Save a penny lose a pound.

Dropped in for drinks and had the seasonal chocolate & peppermint coffee complete with a mince pie and chocolate wafer, and I had a cherry milkshake - fabulous! Have had breakfast and lunch here several times before and always good, as with any Wimpy.

Hadn't been to a Wimpy since I was about 12, I'm now 51 & I have to say its as good as it always was, Service at this Wimpy was excellent, Waitress very friendly and as it was Halloween when we went they had made an effort to dress up and decorate the restaurant. Food was excellent, had a Knickerbocker Glory, absolutely delicious. Will return sooner that the last time for sure.

Entré hoy para el almuerzo mi segunda visita. Me parece que es un lugar relajante para comer y es ideal para una comida rápida. La ensalada en mi hamburguesa fresca, el cheeseburger sabía era delicioso. Todo a un precio razonable, un montón de asientos con buen servicio.

Aparecimos en un almuerzo rápido y fácil. Hemos comido anteriormente. El servicio era bueno, la comida era fresca y llegamos en buen tiempo. Genial para un bocado rápido para comer. También se pueden ver como las calorías en el menú, así que puedes hacer una carta informado.

Sadly this has declined in standard during the past few years (it used to be a most friendly and enjoyable place to take one's children) and no longer represents good value nor particularly well cooked meals.

This place is great for a quick lunch, the prices are reasonable and there is a good selection on the menu. All of the staff are very polite, friendly, courteous and efficient and head office is quick to solve any issues you may have. The lime milkshake I had was delicious and very well blended. In terms of atmosphere, the restaurant is modern and spotlessly clean!Aside from the recurring lack of a loyalty scheme and the fact that the staff didn't ask me if I enjoyed my meal, my main issue here was the extremely disappointing fish and chips. Although it was made as requested, the fish was of an extremely poor quality and resembled a mushy fish finger - it was so bad that I didn't finish eating it. The chips were bland, although the peas were fine. Napkins were available and the cutlery was very clean.Overall, this place suits the need well for a quick and cheap lunch - I will return!

Found bones in the bacon, bacon was thin and tasteless, breakfasts have gone downhill at Wimpy. Other customers had said about the bones when we visited aswell. Been to Wimpy before and enjoyed the food but felt let down on this occasion. Debbie

I noticed quite a few bad reviews posted on here recently so I thought I should visit and check the accuracy of my last review. I was very surprised because I found the service to be excellent today, it was friendly and very efficient. Additionally, the ice cream and cone were both delicious and the place offers consistently good value for money. I was pleased to be automatically given a napkin and a free flake (usually 20p). The restaurant is clean and has a nice atmosphere.My only real complaint would be that the points about refrigerating the flakes and introducing a loyalty scheme in my last review have not been addressed (I may contact Wimpy head office about the latter point).Overall, I feel that this place is brilliant and is the cheapest option for having a sit-down meal in town. I strongly recommend.

They are so fast to your table to try and take your order after sitting down its silly.The food then arrives and portion sizes are small for price you pay.Then if you wanted desert your couldn't as nobody can be bothered to return to the table.Very bad service and not the first time either. Will not be returning which is a shame.

We were greeted at the door and asked where we would like to sit. The restaurant is clean with a retro look. You can see the chef working in the open kitchen.We ordered coffee which came quickly. One of us had a Fish in a Bun whilst the other chose a Sausage Sandwich so nothing complicated and it came as expected. The waitress was cheerful and checked we had exactly what we required. The menu is extensive.In total the meal came to just under £10. You pay at the till. Small slips come with each course which I presented but I assume it's already loaded in the till.Toilet facilities were in the basement. The town centre location makes it a convenient place to have a quick break from shopping or a more substantial meal. It's nothing special but meets the need adequately.

As a huge fan of Wimpy, it pains me to write how disgusted we were with the food and service at this specific restaurant yesterday, 7 April 2016.Don't know if it was the manager, owner or just waiter, but the welcome wasn't the friendliest, and taking our order seemed to be an unpleasant chore... The latte & cappuccino was not what you'd expect from Wimpy, and the breakfast was beneath mediocre. The scrambled egg my little boy ordered looked like it was a smashed up fried egg instead, so he did not want to eat it. We weren't even asked how we preferred out eggs?! It seemed like serving us was 'hard work' and there was not the tiniest bit of a friendly face or smile... Maybe we came too early?? I've been to this Wimpy many times before, but they've just ensured that I won't be visiting again! :((

My wife is a huge Wimpy fan of old and currently two months pregnant and had a craving for some old school action.There isn't a Wimpy in Southampton so we drove up to Basingstoke specifically to visit the restaurant.I didn't eat myself but my wife was extremely satisfied with her quarter pounder meal and classic Brown Derby dessert. Service was excellent and the place was spotless, and very family friendly if we had taken our kids.A British institution and far better than its American fast food competitors. Am kicking myself for not ordering an OG Bender now. But we will return!!!!

Wimpy is a restaurant in Festival Place offering a variety of dishes and a casual sit-down atmosphere in addition to waiter/waitress service. They now do takeaway and delivery.I visited on Sunday the 20th and ordered an ice cream cone to take away.I was served right away by the manager. The restaurant was quiet. Generally, his attitude had improved greatly since the last visit and he had much better manners, he said please and said 'you're welcome' after I said thank you. A little bit more expression may have made the service perfect, as he wasn't particularly talkative which is important when serving customers.The ice cream was delicious and of a high quality, in order to further improve the flakes should be kept in the fridge as mine was quite soft where it had been kept in the warm kitchen. There is an excellent selection on the menu.Overall, the price is very reasonable for what you get which is a meal of good quality. The introduction of a loyalty scheme could be a good addition to an already very good restaurant.The restaurant seemed clean and they have a hygiene rating of 5.Overall, I was really impressed and if you need a casual place to eat in town, I would strongly advise going here.

Out shopping so and wanted a quick snack, I fancied a bacon sandwich and so did my wife. Great service, good food just what was wanted. And we could sit down with a knife and fork. Lovely.

Still great tasting food and service as it's always been and it's nice to see it back in Basingstoke.

All you would expect from a Wimpy Burgers and chips at their best good choice of drinks and all sorts of fatty foods not much choice if you want a healthy option.

Went with my brother who loves this place, it was clean, friendly and had a good choice of food ,extras were not to expensive quick service and the milkshakes are great!!Toilets are down stairs so no good for disabled people but the festival place toilets are very close.

This is the placer for chips they were a delight to eat. The milkshakes are a dream to drink too with so many flavours to choose from and they do great veggie burgers as well.

Not our usual type of place to eat but I wasn't disappointed. The food was cooked to order and came out really quick which very much pleased our children. Cannot grumble.

Last time I visited, I was served a cold burger - I didn't want to make a fuss in-store and so I spoke to wimpy head office when I got home who passed my comments down and I received a free £10 voucher which I was impressed with. I went to make a revisit at around 2 o'clock today and when I entered I was greeted by a very nice lady who said I could sit anywhere.The general atmosphere remains nice and they have even made some minor refurbishments since my last visit which are affective. I do think that Wimpy have an excellent choice of foods on the menu and this is one of the things I like most. £2.80 for a burger isn't too bad but £2 to add on chips is, in my opinion, a bit excessive. I also feel that £6.20 for haddock and chips is a lot. The desserts were cheap.The waitress was prompt with taking my order and drinks came out almost instantly - the milkshake was runny and inconsistent which was a shame. The meals came out not long after and they were correct, they looked and tasted nice so I was impressed. I then proceeded to ask the waitress if I could use my voucher to pay for my meal; she didn't seem particularly happy that I had it and she took it to her manager who said that I needed to produce the letter for it; it was lucky I had it in my bag still. He then reluctantly agreed to let me use it. This showed me an example of poor service.The waitress herself wasn't very friendly although the other lady was. Plate clearing was rather slow even though the restaurant was practically empty and I felt somewhat ignored. I was also left waiting for my dessert as a result of this and we left because we were getting annoyed waiting for the dessert to be collected.We then said goodbye to the nice waitress and went up to the till to pay - I'm not sure weather he was annoyed at me because of the voucher but the manager was quite rude. He wasn't very talkative and he needs to remember to say please and thank you fe. the total bill came to £17. I used the £10 voucher and then after he said "Give me £7". A please on the end would have been nice. Then I did and he didn't say thank you. I do expect basic manners from the manager. He could also improve his attitude towards kids.This was Wimpy's chance to improve their impression on me however I think they failed. I will probably return but I will expect to see service improve.

Having walked past many times decided to give it a try and was pleasantly surprised. Friendly waitresses, varied menu, very reasonable prices. I chose the Haiwian toastie, only £3.95, and was delicious, served with side salad which looked fresh and tasted good. My husband chose a burger which he also enjoyed. For a cheap lunch, this is a good place to choose.

I love Wimpy it's such a shame there's hardly any left in the UK nowa days :( . Food is amazing, well cooked an delicious! They do a lovely wide rang of food which includes cooked breakii mixed grills burgers and fish and chips ect ect ect all for very very reasonable prices ! Staff are all friendly and helpful. Would choose over any fast food such as burgerking any day !

I think wimpy is a great restaurant I have been there twice and I found the service great and the meals where great the price wasn't bad either, the only problem was when I went with my friends me and my friend when down into the bathroom we got scared cos the light turned off my other friends heard us scream, haha we will definitely visit again because it is a great place for lunch as well!!

I've never been to a Wimpy! So we went to visit earlier in the year. The food was ok but service was a little slow. It's like a fast good restaurant but with service. It wasn't the cleanest either and the table was dirty and we had to get our order corrected as it was wrong.

A brilliant meal once again with good food in a nice atmosphere. The food was a bit expensive but was well worth it for what you get, especially compared to it's competitors. The chips could have been cooked for a bit longer but they were adequate.I don't know the name of the lady who served my food but she was very nice and in fact all staff should be congratulated on their friendly approach. Service was also generally quick although it took a little while for plates to be collected.Overall I will be sure to return again as this is one of my favourite restaurants in the whole of Basingstoke!

What was good - *Very friendly waitresses and manager which was an improvement on last time.*The fish was delicious as per usual.*Managed to maintain its good cleanliness.What was not so good - *No criticism on service, the staff here are always friendly and the standards of service are outstanding - food was ready within 2 minutes and staff were very attentive to all of our needs :-).A big improvement on last time.*The food was below the usual impeccable standard: The milkshake was runny and inconsistent but I mixed it and it was still good. The chips were better but still not perfect. Overall good food but milkshakes were disappointing and as one of the main reasons I frequently go to wimpy, I was expecting better.*For what you get, the food is generally good value but rivals such as burger king and McDonalds are cheaper but to be honest your money is better spent here.Overall, a big improvement on last time and I would come again, my only issue is the milkshake but even then it was still good mixed.

Love wimpy great but burgers, the fact you can get it in a brown roll which nowhere else does is a winner for . Service is prompt and mostly friendly. Milkshakes are fantastic. Good value for money highly recommended for a tasty lunch but not for a relaxing atmosphere it is always noisy

The good parts:*Waitresses were friendly and quick service.*Fish was lovely.*Milkshake was good.*Very clean and a new food hygiene score of '5' displayed on the door.*Much quieter this time.The bad parts:*Chips were cooked a bit inconsistently, some were better than others.*More expensive than it's rivals.*Not enough menus supplied to our table.*Although all of the tables apart from 1 were free at the time, we were crammed into a tiny table in the corner.*While the man at the till was polite, he could be a bit more talkative/friendly.Overall a very good start but just more attention to detail needs to be brought forward to improve. Beats it's rivals in most areas.

I've always loved Wimpys so when we saw the one in Basingstoke lunch was on.We were seated straight away onto a tiny table even though the restaurant was nearly empty.The prices are way to high for what you get. Nearly £5 for a veggie burger and then you have to add on chips. All in all 4 people came to over £60. Sadly I won't be back as prices are far to high and also the staff were very unfriendly and would rather just stand there reading magazines.

This restaurant is absoloutly amazing and by far one of my favorites in basingstoke however I have to say i was very dissapointed to find that this restaurant failed their last food hygeine inspection with a score of '2'. Still, it beats most other places in terms of taste. It also gets very busy around lunchtime but this is made up by the fact that it is very modern!

We often eat here for Saturday breakfast, there are always seats available, the breakfast is cooked to order, you can add or change items on the menu, the food is always hot, the staff are polite, one of the best places for breakfast in Basingstoke.

I always come here for their bean burger and good veggie choices. Always great service, definitely top of the fast food list for me. There should be more of them..:)

Very good and lovely environment to eat. Burgers are great no matter which one you choose. Prices are very reasonable and service is great.

Wimpy remains in my mind the best of it's genre and well worth paying a little extra for. A shame that the brand seems to be in decline. I had the half pounder with cheese and chips, an old favourite, and the taste was excellent. Other restaurants of similar type can't match Wimpy for overall taste.

Good food, good service from this branch. Wimpy burgers are always good, much better than the usual burger chain rubbish, freshly cooked every time. This branch is clean and tidy and great positioning in Festival Place, can't recommend it highly enough

Worth going simply for the milkshakes the Wimpy in Basingstoke offers an alternative to other fast food outlets. The food is always well presented and comes to the table quickly. Plates, knives and forks etc are always clean. Service is efficient and prompt. It's not the Fat Duck or elBulli but I guarantee honest fast food delivered promptly in a clean environment.
