Superb Fish n chips tonight. Unlike any other London chippies I know, Wilsons is super fresh chunks of white tasty succulent cod enrobed in a light thin batter -that showcases the cod rather than imprisoning it in a thick hard batter. Chips thick - crisp outside and soft fuffy inside Its often like an award winning seaside chippy Restaurant on the east end essex border Expert fryers and non frozen fish fresh from market

The worst fish and chip shop in Chingford, ordered a takeaway and again, for the second time, received over cooked brown chips. They would not replace unless I collected, what was the point of a delivery!! Penny pinching, will never use them again.

Fish and chips used to be a reasonably priced family meal . Not anymore. Wilson’s have put up their prices again over past couple of months. Rock and chips for 2 now £21 ! A couple of months ago it was £19 even that was expensive. The fish portions and chips are small and chips are soggy. The fish we had today had a weird smell and wasn’t fresh. Was going to take back but wasn’t worth the petrol so went in bin. We’ve voted with our feet for future f&cs.

I am stuck for words but I’m going to give it a shot anyway. I am from Manchester visiting family in Loughton. I asked if we could have a chippy tonight and they recommended that we get a takeaway from Wilsons. I know my food and this has got to be one of the tastiest portions of Chips & Curry I have ever experienced. To top it off the customer service was 5 star which made the experience even better. Keep up the great work, no doubt this is the 1st of many visits.

I have been a regular customer of Wilson’s for a few years but the quality of the food has gradually deteriorated and the prices are now ridiculous given the quality. On the last two occasions I have had items missing from my order! It should not be necessary to rifle through the bag to make sure I have chips to go with my fish before leaving the shop! There are much better fish and chip shops locally at more reasonable prices so I will be giving Wilson’s a miss in the future.

How people queue for this place is beyond me! Fish mediocre at best and chips soggy!! When they first opened the chips were OK. The fish has always been poor. I use this place once in a blue moon and only when in a rush. No more visits from me . Staff act as if they are above the customer which is amazing given the crap served up. Sams ( down the road) actually have better fish and are far more friendly plus serve bigger portions. I actually am not worried about the size of the portion but more so the quality. Honestly try other places because this place is going from bad to worse!

Unfortunately, this is no longer the best fish and chip shop in the area. The quality and size of the fish and chip portions have changed for the worse over the last couple of years. My visit a couple of weeks ago finally made my mind up that it would be my last, which is sad because I have been a loyal customer for many years. The cod was small and covered in an oily soggy batter. The chips were poor and tasted like they had been sitting around for quote sometime. We all know prices have gone up, but quality does not need to be compromised. I recently tried another fish and chip shop in Buckhurst Hill after a recommendations from a friend. It's a pain because I have to drive there, but their fish and chips are far superior in every way. Sorry Wilsons, but you cannot have it every which way.

Only visited twice but my favourite chippy in the West Essex Fish and chips once and chicken burger meal on the second visit Both very nice

Delicious food as always. The fish and chips are fresh and the portion size is generous. Very clean and great service. Will be going back again.

Standards have really slipped the chips tasted like dried out cardboard; disgusting service especially paying £27 for the privilege; won’t be using them ever again !!!

Recieved order batter overcooked. Chips old and recooked. Shame on few occasions been ok but generally naff. Back to Sam's.

Parked up within 2 minutes of being handed the food to eat our haddock and chips. It was all soggy, stone cold and cooked in rancid fat. Disappointed as this used to be the best fish and chips for miles. Had to put it in the bin.

Very tasty food. I use this chippy on occasions as i work nearby. Food always tastes fresh and the staff always serve with a smile. Keep it up guys

This is not an award winning fish and chip shop. After ordering food through deliveroo and being very unhappy with the quality of food. Size. And how badly it was cooked I decided to contact Wilson’s directly to inform them as deliveroo are just a delivery service. Not only was the staff not interested in my criticism but were completely unaccountable for any problems with the food. Luckily deliveroo gave a refund but Wilson’s were completely unhelpful. Needless to say I will not order from Wilson’s again. As there are so many good fish and chip shops around.

The outside of the shop is adorned with 5 stars and ‘award winning’ style messages. If you’re going to big yourselves up so much, shouldn’t you aspire to uphold the claims? Although the shop is well presented, the service was less than spectacular. Rude, miserable staff did their best to provide indifferent service, prices are on the high side although the food was okay but nothing special. Wouldn’t recommend and won’t go back.

Great fish and chips, very busy always a queue as everything is cooked to order. But it is well worth the wait.

Certainly close to the worst fish and chips I have ever had!Whilst undoubtedly the fish was very fresh and pleasantly white, the batter was totally undercooked and not crispy at all making the whole thing soft and soggy!For, what is meant to be, a quality fish and chip shop it was very dissapointing.The chips were similarly undercooked and insipid and tasted of oil!Obviously they felt the need to turn out their meals at a quick pace given the socially distanced queue but surely not at the expense of the end product?Talking of expense, at nearly £10 for a large cod and chips I would have expected my supper to at least have been properly cooked!!I will not be returning and/or recommending!

Disappointed Small portions more like a large fish finger than piece of Cod and not good value for money well overpriced. Sam's fish & chips just a short walk away much better tastier better value and portions and much friendlier welcoming staff.

Just short of £10 for fish, chips and curry sauce. fish and chips OK but curry sauce weak and watery. No fork supplied, nowhere to sit to dine, not even a litter bin outside to dispose of wrappings. Surly service. Shame. Would not revisit

Poor service again which means I'll be going elsewhere in future. What is it with the server calling everyone "darling." I find it quite rude. Sausages are cheap nasty rubbish but according to the staff "this is what people want." Pies are lukewarm. Fish is apparently cooked fresh which means at least a 10 minute wait.

Wilsons is a Fish and Chip Shop, rather than a restaurant, but it has two tables each with two seats. And as the folk waiting for chips to fry were standing up, I asked to eat in. The fish was already cooked and waiting. So I expected the usual woolly cod after being in there ages and some fresh chips. Instead the cod was lovely, soft big flakes in a pleasant batter. One or two early chips were hard but the rest fine. All in a stiff cardboard box for £7.45. Worth going if youre in Chingford hungry. Turnover seemed quite high for a weekday at 1.45pm.

We choose haddock which is always freshly cooked & delicious. However, this is not a restaurant but a fish & chip shop. There are two tables but basically these are for people waiting for their order although occasional people do eat at the tables. We are regular eaters of Wilson’s fish & chips.

Love Wilsons but last 3 visits definite noticed a drop in their previous high standards and quality of fresh fish n chipsRecently chips hard and darker in colour - Fish not quite as flavoursomeWont give up on them yet as has been so good in the past - but it takes a long time to build up a great reputation and not long to lose it Will give it another couple of goes before checking out new options

This is my regular fish and chips place and aside from the odd mistake when ordering the food is great. The staff are friendly and polite and overall my regular.... ButPurchased my regular portion of hot kickers which usually come as large wings and crispy ..... but this time the wings were ting and over cooked border line burnt. Clearly the member of staff saw these before putting them in the box and not to mention the chef should have checked these.Disappointing guys !!

Chips were great. Savaloy brilliant.. Sausage in batter a touch soggy.And that just the one thing.Staff pleasant efficient polite. No problems there.Just one thing... Keep an eye on that oil..temperature boys. Otherwise the sausage in batter will come out soggy.instead of.crispy.I'm a.fryer myself so.....But I'm sure it was.just a one off.Always loved.Wilson's so will definitely be going back

We have eaten from this fish n chip shop on several occasions.... but Saturday 9th February we decided to eat from Wilsons. I ordered rock eel and chips i went to cut into the fish and WOW a disgusting smell of Ammonia came out so much so it went into my eyes!! the smell was unbelievable I have never ever smelt anything like this before my husband also commented on it. I telephoned the shop to tell them they just said "do you want your money back"? No i said my husband is finishing his meal as don't want two meals spoil t then he will return the nasty meal - My husband went back again to the shop, they just gave him another pc of fish n chips nothing was said other than sorry... not the fact that he made two visits we dont live on the doorstep the other as a gesture i thought they would have given him the money back for the inconvenience not impressed!! Anyway I googled Ammonia from fish and it saysquote "The ammonia-like smell is because the fish is not fresh. It is a product of decomposition - DONT eat it!! I am sorry to say that we will not be getting anymore fish and chips from WILSONS for a while and their response stinks TOO!!

I have found the quality very hit and miss. Also, there is no queuing system when you walk in, just customers randomly standing around forcing you to ask who is being served since the staff don't help with this either. And, its always the same; Very annoying!

Great chippy. Old fashioned favourites, friendly service. Highly recommend trying this out when you are next in Chingford.

Its not awonder this plaice has won awards. The fish and chips are real treat and cooked perfectly. Without doubt the best around here.

Wilsons does excellent quality, cooked to order food. Slightly more expensive than your typical chippy, but really good food prepared and cooked really well. Chips taste so good they evoke childhood memories of eating out of newspaper. Fish is top drawer and cooked perfectly so it's soft and flaky.

Food is usually good as is the service. Have knocked stars off as quite a few times I have been here dogs are in the shop at the counter. Was in today and a customer came in with a dog, and another customer pointed out the dog should not be in there. The member of staff asked the dog owner to go out, but then staff were clearly rude, several times, to the customer who pointed out the dogs presence and made loud, negative and rude comments for other customers to hear. Not acceptable. Do not see this casual and rude attitude in other Fish & chip shops.

Stop here on the way to gilwell park for fish and chips. The food was freshly cooked, really nice, chips were brilliant, would definitely go again.

Have been here several times and it’s been good however last night when we went it smelt really awful. Not a fresh fish smell at all. The young guy working there is always lovely shame the other women is not so friendly!

The go to place for fish and chips. Don’t go anywhere else, go to Wilson’s because you won’t be disappointed. The quality is amazing.

Me and my wife get fish and chips from time to time from wilsons. They are very busy,and there is generally a queue. But it is worth it.the fish and chips come in a box and it doesn't look enough to fill you up,but it is..friendly service,best fish and chips around.....

Friday night dinner wouldn’t be the same without Wilson’s fish and chips, it’s a tradition now on Friday to go here for our take away. Its excellent value. Staff polite and prompt, great tasting food

I often come here for my Friday lunch with my boyfriend. I always have the big fish and chips with gravy curry sauce and baked beans and two drinks great value. The food is always hot when it's brought to the table. The staff r very friendly and helpful. The food always tastes great. Me and my boyfriend love this place.

Staying at Gilwell Park and thought hello “Fish on Friday” so off it’s off to Wilson’s. Disappointed “sorry no Rock “ how about the Haddock? That’s on and a lovely large piece of haddock with crispy batter was wrapped. Thanks guys and I will come earlier next time.

A little pricier then your usual "chippy" but worth it! The food is always fresh and they always have some great lunch,kids,oap deals

A half decent fish and chips shop. It is quite expensive compared to others I've been to and sometimes Saturday lunch times and chips seemed to be very dry

We were staying locally in Gilwell Scout Activity Centre and used Wilsons on two separate occasions for large orders. The food went down a treat, ranging from the large cod, the chicken burger, chicken strips and half a chicken. The meal deal was perfect for our youth members, sauces and drinks accompanied the meals and everything went down well with our gang!Value for money without a doubt and we'd recommend this establishment for groups. Once they have advance notice of a large order they'll fulfill it.Many thanks from us Irish Scouts!

For a few months this was our 'go to' for fish and chips on a Friday night. The first couple of times it was good, fresh fish, decent chips and whilst a little pricey it was worth the extra. Then it hit the skids - on three consecutive occasions my order was either wrong or not complete, the fish was greasy and not fresh (could have been leftover from lunch it was that sad) and the chips were only partially cooked with no colour and tasteless. With plenty of choice in Chingford I now go elsewhere.

After hearing how good the fish and chips were, I was looking forward to a real treat. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed. The fish was nice but it was covered in soggy batter and accompanied with tasteless chips. Won't be going back!

The cod was very tasty and with a flaky texture and coated in an excellent batter. Nicely cooked chips all in a card box. Excellent service with plenty of staff, well done. More choice than your average chippy and good prices too.

Although I have known of Wilsons for quite some time, I final tried their fish and chips. Great cod, freshly cooked whilst you wait. My son loved their ribs too.

Just visited Wilson on a cold Wed evening. Rather busy for mid week but now know whycooked to order, fresh moist chunky flakes of cod and decent chips as it should beA World if difference to your average London chippy and reminded me of the best seaside fish and chips Keep up the good work Wilsons

Working nearby and fancied a fish supper, checked trip advisor and saw Sam's and Wilsons both nearby. After reading reviews we went to Wilsons and we were not disappointed, it was delicious, fish batter light and crisp, veggie burger was also tasty with fresh coleslaw and a nice ciabatta bap, portions very generous, price was surprisingly low for the area, I have paid more in Birmingham for much worse!! The shop was clean and well lit, inviting and the staff were really friendly, a short wait for freshly cooked food is always OK in my books!!

Great traditional fish and chips with a bit of luxury touch. Must try if you are nearby. The fish is always fresh and prepared to order.

Always busy but the wait for freshly-cooked fish is definitely worth it. They have a wide variety of fish, plus the usuals now found in places like this (chicken, ribs etc.), all served with a smile and for a fair price. Cannot recommend this place enough if you are in the area.

Don't go anywhere else for your fish and chips, me and my partner went here for the first time recently having exhausted our local chip shops. The place is perfect, very clean, the staff are really friendly and the cod and chips are to die for! Perfect batter, fresh crisp chips and very reasonably priced. We won't go anywhere else.

Just happened upon this wonderful place, was walking by in the rain and smelt this wonderful aroma at lunch time and had to have some fish and chips. The best we had eaten while on holiday,. The service was so good, the people so friendly and the place soooooo clean. The food was to die for. So succulent and soooooooooo much. Not one thing was wrong a PERFECT, PERFECT place to go to. Went back there about 10 days later and got the same service and same food so it was consistent as far as I can tell. So glad we found this place. When we next travel to England we will be back to this wonderful place and enjoy happy memories with the owners who were so friendly and made us so welcome. Thank you for being there, June.

Wilsons saved us from starvation!! We had been dining at a restaurant down the road however after an hour and a half we walked out without being fed and headed to the nearest chippy. The staff were brilliant and the food was fantastic. All 7 of us were fed in record time and thought it was the best fish and chips we'd eaten. Lined our stomachs perfectly for the night!The staff even got us extra chairs from out the back, gave us some leftovers for free and let us finish our grub whilst they locked up. Top marks to everyone. Thank you!!

Such a WONDERFUL surprise finding this place, it was raining and we had walked from the station and just ambled along and smelt this wonderful aroma, who could not resist. We was greeted with a wonderful smile and such a happy face. We placed our order and when we received it, WOW, what a gigantic serving, so large, wish had only ordered one serving as not used to such large portions in the United States. Every thing was delicious, The place was sooooo clean and spic and span, The service was prompt and extremely pleasant, Both owners came out and talked to us and welcomed us and really made us feel so welcome, a real delite to have found this place, in fact we came back again about 10 days later and had another meal with them as the food was soooooooooo good and the owners were soooooo wonderful. Thank you for giving us such happy memories. June.
