I booked two nights here with my 10 month old baby to meet up with family. When I arrived the staff could not have been more helpful and the room was comfortable. However, for £178 for two nights breakfast is not included. There is significant road noise. We dined in the restaurant both nights and was not offered a discount as patrons. I could cope with all of this and buying drinks from the bar, but when I asked for a small piece of bread or a roll for my 10 month old teething baby for the morning, the staff stated they couldn’t facilitate this and ‘Charles’ would be really angry if they gave away anything and stock checks everything . I know times are hard but I have spent a fortune here to receive very little. A piece of bread costs nothing. As a nurse working the whole way through the pandemic I find this pretty unacceptable as I have spent so much in the hotel/restaurant and it is for a baby. I will not be coming back.

We had visited Willow Barn several times in the past. Had not realised that name was changed and new owners in place. Do NOT rely on previous superb ratings . This is now trying to be a pub. Covid-19 precautions are a joke. Fingers crossed that we are OK. In hindsight I should have left taking our party of four elsewhere. I was misled by their telephone assurances that they were abiding by the new rules.

Birthday meal out for one of out offspring and what a fantastic choice of venue. Wonderful atmosphere and location. Pleaty of choice on the main menu, also covered gluten free for one of our party and plenty of choice on the kids menu. Home cooked food that went down all leaving empty plates. Even got a wow from my daughter on the beef blade ,and she can be a picky eater. Fantastic service and a very welcoming restaurant. We'll definitely be returning.

I popped into Willow Barn for the first time on the way to a meeting around 6.00pm and ordered a couple of starters. The whitebait and The goats cheese. The whitebait was very lightly breaded and probably the best I have tasted. The goats cheese was as good. Presentation was lovely with both.I shouldn’t have - but succumbed to the apple crumble. Delicious!! The custard ’was’ the best I have tasted. The apple crumble was a perfect portion with a good balance of apple and crumble, again beautifully presented!Robert was very attentive. The pricing very reasonable.I will certainly be back..

First off, it’s dog friendly- extra points for that! We were here on a Wednesday lunchtime. Restaurant was fairly quiet. Comfortable seats, decent size table. Big barn which was warm (cold outside with biting wind) and has a nice ambience. Served by Robert who was very attentive and helpful without being annoying. Menu isn’t vast, but covers several different tastes. Food took as long as would be expected when cooked to order, but worth the wait. Steak very tasty and cooked as requested. Nice chips etc. Smoked haddock very nicely presented and apparently very tasty. All were hot. Again, sweet menu not big but enough choice to suit all 3 of us. Yule log had delicious chocolate sauce which probably rescued what may have been a typically low taste sponge, but as a package was very nice.

Came here for breakfast one morning to find another restaurant that gives us unusual ambience and yet another place to add to our repeat places to go. The Willow Barn so very nearly gave us what we needed. The food was very reasonable but not superb, the ambience was fair but not truly quirky. The service was very good but the prices needed adjustment down to truly reflect the value given. Management need to severely look into the actual cost of a breakfast and not be fooled into thinking that high prices for average grub will bring repeat custom. I will keep an eye on the breakfast prices, because I feel that I would really like to put this on my list of favourites.

I have read many very good reviews about the restaurant but I’m afraid to say our experience wasn’t up to scratch. Six of us booked for dinner, it was a hot evening so we elected to eat in the conservatory as the bar/restaurant looked dark and possibly hot. We then realised It’s not a very nice area, no atmosphere, I suspect it’s mainly used for functions. The restaurant didn’t appear busy but we did experience a number of issues with our orders. It could be that we did pick “the wrong night” to visit.

For a party of six adults and six children to have all come away happy is a feat on it's own but to have two of the party coming away saying that that was the best veggie burger that they have had is really something. Who'd have thought a porcini mushroom, wilted spinach and goats cheese in a brioche bun could be THAT tastey!.. As we walked in the restaurant looked lovely with a piano to the right , tables down and upstairs with home baked cakes and scones at the bar. We were greeted immediately by the gentleman that was working. They had a set 2 or 3 course menu very reasonable priced and also a good choice of lighter lunch...we had the steak and ale pie that came with mash and vegetables and an extra small jug of gravey ...the meal looked great on the plate and tasted delicious! We also had a dessert which was equally well presented and tasted lovely...the atmosphere was really relaxing and the service was great...I will definitely be going there again ! Having seen good reviews overall thought we would be in for some delicious food. We had an early booking but were told when we arrived the fish dish of the day only one portion left. I ordered roast belly pork to be told sold the last one. Had the substitute fish . The fish was nicely cooked but accompanied by cabbage (totally unsuitable for fish in my opinion) along with mashed carrots and suede.Very uninspiring needed something with more texture and flavour. The puddings were less than appetizing. If you like steamed puddings with custard / ice cream you might be okay but totally unimaginative. We asked if there were any specials and offered Eton Mess or figs and strawberries with pouring cream? and told these weren't usually for sale!! The car park needs some lighting as pitch black when we arrived ( not very welcoming) and left. . The building inside was very attractive but lacked any atmosphere and being a barn was cold especially with the lack of other diners so adds to question why they had run out of 2 dishes so early in the evening

... by the change in menu. We regularly go here when I’m down visiting my mum and brother and although the service isn’t great, we are always willing to overlook this as the food was always good. The owner explained that the menu was changing, putting a positive spin on it, but I liked the old menu and only fancied the beef bourguignon. Now I expected the normal beef casserole type dish with carrots etc and what came up was a big chunk of roasted beef, which was a bit fatty. I think the prices have gone up a bit too; we went here for that reason, instead of the Cliff House, which always has excellent food and service. Think we might opt for there instead now.

I studied the reviews of the Willow Barn Restaurant before deciding to book Sunday Lunch for a family get together after my wife's total hip replacement operation 2 weeks ago. The staff were initially helpful when I popped in to check out the location and to make sure they had a disabled toilet and to select a table in the restaurant. On the day, we were shown to our table and a high chair was provided for our 18 month old grandson as well as the menus. We all opted to have one of the Sunday roast options plus a dessert. All of the food was nicely prepared and enjoyable but the level of service generally was below what you would expect given the high standard of reviews. We were regularly having to chase the staff for drinks, to order desserts and finally for the bill ! They had a notice on the entrance door which was advertising for new staff which they clearly need. However, as we all know, it is not how many staff that you have that counts; it's all about how good the staff are that you have. As at least one other review has pointed out, the front of house staff just appear to be disorganised and although we were not in any hurry, we arrived between 1.30pm and 1.45pm and paid the bill at around 4.15pm after having to request it. No complaint about the food or the venue and the piano player was also a nice touch but the service side prevented me giving more than an average score.

I have visited here twice over recent weeks. Both times we attended we used vouchers that we purchased from Groupon.

I was invited here as my cousin was staying at the same location, and therefore this review is for the restaurant only and not the accommodation.

The Willow Barn is one of those places that you frequently drive past and then one day just decide to visit, and when you do, you wished you had stopped on many occasions before. My first visit was on a Sunday in 2017 when I was looking for somewhere to eat at around 4pm, just when everything was closing. I decided to stop at the Willow Barn so I could at least get a coffee with my 3 fellow family members. What I found was simply great. We were greeted by friendly staff, which was amazing as they had all been working all day and had been extremely busy in the morning and at lunch. We were able to order from the menu without any issues, and everything that we enquired about or subsequently ordered was available. We sat outside in a very sunny and sheltered courtyard with comfortable seating. The service was very friendly and efficient and we engaged with the staff with no issues at all. Our drinks and food arrived in a timely fashion and we were all very happy and satisfied with our meal choices. Some other people were hanging around from a long lunch and the Barn had a great atmosphere. Apparently we had missed the piano player who regularly performs at Sunday lunchtime, but we vowed to return. Return we have done, on many occasions since then and the service and food quality still remains high.

We enjoyed our meals and found the restaurant had a good ambience. Dogs are allowed which meant there was some barking at times but it didn't stop us enjoying our meals.

We thought we would visit Willow Barn Restaurant for Sunday Lunch after reading the excellent reviews on here and we were not disappointed. We both had the roast beef lunch which we could not fault it was excellent. We will definitely return when we are next on holiday here in Highcliffe.

Came in for Sunday lunch with my family. Absolutely perfect food. Gravy was amazing and my partners beef was cooked to perfection. I had the chicken and it was beautiful. Duncan, Sean (sp?) , Darren and Rob were all fantastic and attentive. I cannot fault the place, and i am ridiculously fussy. 10/10 would recommend you come here.

My partner and I had a lovely evening meal ona Friday evening. The setting is really nice, the service was faultless and the food, was just delicious. Price was quite reasonable as well. If we lived close to the Willow Barn we would make it a regular place to go to, even if it was just for a drink. We intend to return when we come back for a day in the New Forest.

We decided to have dinner at this restaurant after reading good reviews. The highlight was definitely the food. I enjoyed the chicken supreme from the specials board and the sticky toffee pudding. Both dishes of a high standard and decent portions. Interior decoration very pleasant. Waiting staff very friendly and attentive. The only negative was the place was so quiet that we were the only people there so the atmosphere was pretty much nonexistent. We can't understand why more people weren't there especially on a Saturday evening. Maybe because it is not located next to the coast. I hope that this positive review will encourage more people to experience this great place.

Stopped here for a sandwich lunch today with a work colleague and had a great first experience. Good service and a lovely setting. Well priced too - we had a tuna mayo sandwich and an open bacon sandwich. Very fresh and plentyful. I will return !

Hotel tastefully and traditionally furnished throughout. Our twin room was spacious with a lovely large ensuite bathroom and everything very clean. Staff welcoming and friendly. Great choice of cooked breakfast and we also enjoyed a very good quality, nicely presented evening meal. Overall stay was extremely good value for money.

Used to visit this little tea room a few times a year but it was shut today and it looks pretty permanent. I'd advise not taking the time to try as others seem to have had the same issue.

Really pleased to have found The Ship for accommodation for 2 nights. First impressions on a very cold January evening: the pub was buzzing, staff were welcoming and friendly, room warm and with a bath (always a plus) everything very clean. Breakfast was good and we booked 6 of us for Sunday lunch. There's a happy and friendly vibe about this place. Thank you Sylwia - we shall be back!
