William Gladstone Pub in Liverpool

Have paid £15 for a large G/T and a JD and Coke, when going to the bar for a last drink at 10.45pm , was informed sorry closed ! Even though there was fifteen minutes to closing and the pub was almost empty ! The reason , not enough staff, woeful service. Tables were dirty and with old spilt drinks , surly staff, lots of much better pubs nearby , avoid.

The pub is in a great location within the city, however it’s let down by fairly poor bar staff (with the exception of one who was fantastic) and poor quality over priced food. The menu is the usual standard pub food and has a reasonable selection, yet when trying to place a food order my wife was ignored despite their being nobody else at the bar! After a ten minute wait and someone being served in front of her, despite her asking to place an order, another member of staff came to the rescue and served her. Had she not, then we would have left, so hats off to the lady that served us and I believe may have been a manager.

Came here on Saturday although it was busy the atmosphere with the band was amazing! Was good to here some more 90/80s songs playing!

Just a great pub not trying to be anything else. Good drinks selection, well presented pub food. Sports on TV that isn't intrusive. Good level of music to create atmosphere without being over loud. Never quiet, never so busy you can't find a seat. Used to have a band on at weekends (hope they still do). Good mix of locals and visitors. Always get a visit in when we're there. Just a well run pub not trying to be anything more, can't beat them.

Popped in for food whilst visiting the city. Great, helpful staff and fab food! My steak was cooked to perfection, the best I've had in a long time......Will definitely go again on our stay.

Had a wonderful time he. Happened upon the place by pure chance. But was overwhelmed by the customer service from the staff. Alicia's customer service skills were exceptional. We ordred food. My wife has allergies and eating out can be somewhat of a "headache" but this young lady went out of her way. The rest of the team were also literally out of this world. Ben, josh, kat and izzy were all amazing in how they delivered a magical experience. Will be coming back, again an again. The music by the dj really had the place rocking with the most awesome atmosphere... an atmosphere found little or no where in this great city. 10/10 for this place.

Decided to have lunch, as I’m gluten intolerant we have been well informed by staff on fryers etc, staff very helpful, prices very good and food lovely.

The pub was very busy for the AJ fight but the atmosphere was great! The bar was chocker but the staff were so quick at getting everyone served. Just wanted to give a shout out to the bar manager/supervisor (he was young with a shaved head) he was sooooo nice when he took my order and made the drinks super quick! Credit to the pub xxx

Friendly staff great food great service, drinks are good price . Clean atmosphere. Great entertainment on weekend . Friday is DJ, Saturday it’s live music and Sunday karaoke night 🔥 10/10 would recommend

After looking at menu decided to try the pub. The menu was really confusing and meal deals unclear. I ordered sausage and mash as that was virtually the only meal without chips. After a while the chef came and told me there was no mash so had to have chips anyway. The general feeling was the place is a bit grubby and the food average.

Popped in for a bite to eat had a delicious pie and chips and a pint of Stella for less than a tenner. Lovely place all round

Visted Liverpool today was cold outside so found this place for a coffee waited a long time to be served,then told the drinks would be brought to the table to which we waited a long time. When the drinks did arrive the cappuccino is too watery and the 2 lattes which we got isn’t even milky as that’s what a latte is,I think the coffee machine needs cleaning out. Very disappointed! & service was a disappointment

Walking around this part of town my twin brother Stephen and I decided to drop into The William Gladstone Pub and what a very pleasant time we had. A really good pub, lovely decor and furnishings, tv's and big screens to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its a very good pub indeed. We were here on a Thursday afternoon, we track and traced and sanitised our hands and ordered a guinness each, guinness was poured in the correct manner even allowing time for the all important settle, we just kicked back, chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My guinness was absolutely superb, a rich,thick, creamy and most importantly iced cold guinness bursting with taste, on a hot afternoon a totally refreshing brew. We both really enjoyed our guinness in here, only stayed for the one each before moving on and as on every other visit to The William Gladstone Pub we had a fab time.The William Gladstone Pub is easy to locate along North John Street. Opening hours are;Monday to Thursday, 10am till 11pm. Friday & Saturday, 10am till 1am. Sunday, 10am till 11pm. Well worth a visit.

Service was amazing and kevin sorted everything out and lovely! couldn’t do enough for us and always making sure we had enough drink Thank you !!

Came for a breakfast with the family and the food was delicious and came out very quick. Staff were really polite and friendly. Can't wait for restrictions to be lifted as me and the work lot will come for a boogie x

This is a great place to go, great service, great price. I have to say though the manager PETER went out of his way with not just me everyone I saw him dealing with to deliver excellence in customer service. My family was happy and that makes me happy and that is down to PETER!! Ask for him to help you.

We visited this place today shown to table and after waiting 15 minutes still nobody came to take our order we walked out.

We had a fairly bad experience at the William Gladstone Pub due to the kitchen staff getting the order wrong. The waitress was rude and argued back for a while before taking the plate away and eventually replacing it. We complained to the manager, not about the mistake since that can happen, but about the handling of it He did apologise but did nothing whatsoever to make up for the bad experience. Desserts were served, but the dirty plates were left on the table throughout. Very poor service.Reading reviews elsewhere on this site, and other review sites, the manager always has an excuse or blames the customer and clearly has no intention of listening to our opinions and improving his pub.The food is typical Weatherspoons - not bad but nothing more than pub grub. We never expect much from a Weatherspoons, but this didnt even reach their typically low standards

On arrival we were greeted my a man on the Door who got us to scan the the track and trace. He was very polite and it was reassuring to see they had safety in mind. We were shown to a table and given time to peruse the menu. Our order for breakfast was taken by the same gent who had seated us very efficiently . The breakfast and our drinks were delivered very quickly and I must say, was delicious. As we were leaving the man was greeting more customers but still managed to thank us for our visit and wish us well. The man was older , had a trimmed grey beard and wore glasses. We will definitely be back when next visiting Liverpool

We visited the William Gladstone for a few drinks but we enjoyed it that much we ended up having food as well.We ordered a few beers and cocktails then fish&chips the food arrived in twenty minutes and was ever so tasty even better when you can watch footy on four screens from your table.Special mention for the excellent service and staff enjoyed a chat and a laugh.Thankyou.

My Friend and I visited the William Gladstone,North John street, Liverpool on Friday 4th June 21, we decided to have lunch there, we were served by a young lady ( Rhiannan) who was so efficient, she took our order and looked after us very well, asking if everything was ok, to which we replied it was, at the end of lunch, we asked her for directions back to the Liver buildings, she did just that, Nothing seemed to much trouble for this young lady, We would like to say a massive thank you to her, she is a credit to your establishment. We would like to wish her well for the future

Having rang the pub to pre book at short notice , we were warmly welcomed ... once seated our order taken , we both had bbq chicken melt 2 meals for £9.99 .. The meal was lovely , tender chicken and all piping hot .. The staff were very good , cleaning tables down and were wearing masks ... We felt very safe .. well done William Gladstone ...

Cheap and cheerful pub and grub place Staff were friendly and polite as you find all over Liverpool We visited the establishment as we were staying at the hotel opposite The food was OK for the price and served quickly I had the mixed grill which ok for £9.99 The curry was very watery though and the beef and ale pie was burnt The young lady apologised and changed it but the replacement was not much better She offered a glass of wine by way of apology In all I'd give a 7 out of 10

Do not go this pub! The lady who was working on the doors that night, around late 50’s was abusive to me and my friend for accidentally standing in front of the door this is not professional one bit and she should not be working on them doors

We visited this place when pubs were closed, it was a family meal my brother and I went to ,arks and Spencer’s whilst my parents walked 5 or so 10 minutes ahead.They were told they could not go into the restaurant until myself and brother arrived ( absolutely ridiculous ) the gent which I assume is some form of manager was rude, stated we have to order a main meal, we were already aware of this before entering the venue, however this did not seem the case with another couple who were allowed to come in and get a drink and snack.

Luego recibí otra comida que no había pedido (¡pedí un gammon de 10 oz, recibí el gammon pequeño del menú! - Otra pareja había pedido al mismo tiempo, y como las 4 comidas se enviaron juntas, tuvieron para ellos mezclados.) Mi compañero había terminado su comida y le preguntamos si la mía estaba en camino a él dijo que se estaba cocinando bastante abruptamente! Esperé 30 minutos para que se rectificara mi comida. Nadie vino para comprobar si mi comida estaba bien, o para ver si queríamos algo más. Nos fuimos con mi plato, etc. todavía en la mesa. Trabajo en la industria y soy plenamente consciente de lo difíciles que son las cosas en este momento, pero el servicio que recibimos fue completamente inaceptable.

The William Gladestone Pub is a wonderful city centre pub I always look forward to visiting on any trip into town I take.I love the look of this pub,set over two floors, great decor and furnishings including a cool looking serving bar and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, a great pub to unwind in.My twin brother Stephen and I were here on a Thursday afternoon, we thought we would visit some of the great pubs our city has to offer before P M Boris closed down the country to halt the spread of the coronavirus visited upon us .We ordered a Carlsberg beer each ,these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling and we just kicked back,chilled out and took in the great pub we were in .My beer was excellent, a light,hoppy and unpretentious lager style beer bursting with taste,very easy to drink,a beer style both myself and my twin brother Stephen are particularly fond of,while sipping our beers we decided to order a beef burger each ,after a short wait our burger meals arrived and what a treat ,burgers were superb ,a thick juicy burger ,a very generous filling, beautifully seasoned and served between two fresh tasty buns, fries that came with the burger meal were also superb, coupled with our delicious beers made for a great dining experience. We really enjoyed our burger and beers in here and the great vibe so much so that we ended up staying for another Carlsberg beer each before moving on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time. The William Gladstone Pub is easy to locate along North John Street .A great pub,one I highly recommend you visit if your in the area.

I have given it a 1 because there isn't a 0 rating as the service was disgusting. I visited with friends and was disgusted with the treatment from staff. I had ordered my drink but when my friends tried to order a drink they were told that he couldn't serve them as he had to collect glasses. As the bar was very busy this left me astounded. I then asked to speak to the manager who was not helpful at all and said that the bar staff just did as they were told. I would have thought looking after customers was more important than collecting glasses. I will definitely not be returning to this pub.

On a very busy Saturday in Liverpool, this pub was good for a drink and a chat where others are too noisy to hear conversation. Altthough the rugby was on, it wasn't too loud. Good spot for people watching if you get a window seat, enjoying the variety of tourists checking out the Mathew Street area, gift shops and bars.

frozen asda burger and about 10 chips. waited 35 minutes and it was crap. nothing like the pictures on the menu. little beer flys landing on my drink that didnt impress me either. I'd rather go to McDonald's next time

Visited here after work with my daughter - wish we hadn’t of bothered . We were served by a middle aged man . No knowledge of the menu or the the drinks. In fact he was just plain rude, when the food arrived it was not even warm or edible. He didn’t acknowledge a single person at the bar .

I purchased a meal, along with 8 friends, when it came there were 3 items missing. When I complained, I was made to feel that I was in the wrong. The man I spoke to told me he was the Manager, he didn't have a name badge on, I wasn't sure, I would expect a Manager to respect their customers and not raise their voice at them. He said 'What do you want me to do about it'. I asked for a refund, he snatched the plate and then gave me my money back. I was told by a waiter that they has run out of the items I had ordered. I wish I had known when I ordered, I could have chosen an alternative.

Walk down the road and you'll get pints at Wetherspoons prices. Here? Two pints of Hop House? Ten quid. Yuppie crap hole. None of the 'special offers' available! Cardboard food, expensive drinks. Avoid at all costs....we will.

Very important question, what is the point of the upstairs bar? I’ve never seen in open, just seems to be a display bar for the sake of it. Also, why are the upstairs toilets always closed it’s so bizarre. The food menu has also changed and not for the good, the burgers are ruined they were much nicer beforehand and they were bigger as well.

La visita del día 22 fue una buena experiencia, el personal fue acogedor, la comida estuvo buena y la orden correcta, mi esposa fue al personal cuando estábamos a punto de irnos y les agradeció el servicio y la comida que habíamos recibido. Lamentablemente, el día 23 el personal que nos atendió no fue tan acogedor, el café que pedimos no era el café entregado a la mesa, el desayuno no estaba completo ya que faltaban los champiñones y los marrones de ceniza. No se ofrecen explicaciones ni sustituciones.

Visit here often, food is good basic pub food, always hot and tasty, good value, quick service... Drinks are good value for city centre... Nice atmosphere, lively, but I've gone here for years and always feel safe... Great location, walking distance to all the city centre.

We found this pub while exploring the Beatles and Cavern area in nearby Mathew Street and we were pleasantly surprised at the efficiency of the staff and the cleanliness of the pub. We stopped primarily for a late breakfast which was served quickly and without fuss – tasty good cooked food. Cheerful staff and a bit of a laugh with the bar staff kept everyone grinning. Don’t know what it would be like later in the day but certainly ideal for a quick midday bite.

William Gladstone pub and restaurant was good but not as good as neighboring pubs. They are more to the fast food type of pub. The service was excellent.

Two meals and two drinks for £11.98 was amazing value. My pie middling, her indoors' macaroni very nice. Good banter with staff

Didn't eat here as pub grub generally not our thing but the draft beer was great. Moretti on draft was fantastic. You can sit at the window overlooking Matthew Street and watch the people coming and going. Nice way to spend an hour...or two.

Recently bought 5 meals, two were children's and included ice cream, I told the server that I'd come back and tell him what flavours later, he said No problem. But there was a problem as he refused to give us the desserts because he needed more money to put through the till, he then said I hadn't paid for it, the itemized bill proved different, as you can imagine the boys were upset.

The place looks nice. But the service was quite slow and the quality of the dishes was not as good as we expected it to be.

My 81 year old father and i went for a meal there about a month ago and he had the beef and double gloucester pie and i had the beef yorkshire wrap. Dads said his was ok. My beef tasted like shoe leather not that i have tasted shoe leather but if i did this would be it. There was hardly any veg or chips on my plate. Also 2 much yorkshire wrap. They did bring more veg when they realised the portion size on my plate. But not chips. Anyhow yesterday because of the rain we went in again. My 81 year old dad on a walking stick. Had to go up 3 stairs to seat were people wernt watching you eat and sitting on top of you down below when we sat down the table was exremely sticky was then wiped again. I ordered the meal fish burger and chips and my dad ordered the steak and chips medium rare. The scarce amount of chips on the plate were absolutely freezing they changed them for hot ones. My dads steak came out ectremely bloody The manager came over after myself waiting and complaining at the bar he then reheated my dads steak it came back my dad proceeded to cut it the knife wasnt sharp enough so i went up the bar again to ask for another knife after waiting again . Dads steak by this time was cold it was also full of rubbery fat. My burger was freezing i then complained again and waited again at the bar for manager about how many times the meal was disrupted due to the complaints and asked him if he would try to put the knife through my dads steak and if he could replenish my burger and provide my dad with a better knife. Will the manager argued back that it was a perfectly good steak knife and flatly refused to do anything about the meal being cold due to the complaints made about the meal in general. It was horrendous and i would never recommend it to a dog never mind a human being.

Food was lovely and so was the bar staff especially the lovely ladie who served me Helen I will definitely be going there again next time I'm in the city would recommend to anyone visiting.

It looked like a spoons, felt like a spoons so i'm going to say it probably was a spoons. Happy with my drinks, happy with my food but a place like this can never be 5*.

I asked for a cup of tea and was told to wait while people who wanted real drinks were served. It was my first time on a solo visit as my husband had just died and was made to feel like my custom did not matter.

Visited here for lunch not for me. Food was poor and portions very small. There are other nicer eating places in the vicinity.

Came here twice during our Liverpool visit, situated at the End of Mathew St, so handy if your into the Beatles, food and beer reasonable prices and tasty, highly recommended

Since moving to Liverpool myself and work colleagues have always visited the Gladstone and made it a starting and normally finishing point to a night out......staff have always been welcoming,friendly and are always keeping us upto date with new offers and promotions.....Kevin behind the bar is always happy within his role and comes over to say hello when we come in. Highly recommend grabbing a burger before starting the night off........Good food, Good Atmosphere, Great prices.....Fantastic Staff!!!

Oh my gosh, there are no words to describe the amazing welcome we received here during a recent visit to the uk. Knowledgeable, warm, welcoming staff who took the time to chat and make our experience extra pleasant (also explained some Scouse phrases!) We dropped by for a drink and stayed to eat because we felt so comfortable. The staff make this establishment what it is. Food was great too!!!

The pub is located at the entrance to Matthew street and offers several beers on tap and all other liquors. We tried the food there, the fish and chips was good but the pie was not.

We all agreed that this was bland tasteless food. We would not recommend it decor is tatty and needs serious refurbish. Sunday roast was not good. One of the three of us had hunters pie he was not fussed and left half of it too. Gravy was thick and tasteless.

Ordered lunch and a few drinks, beer was warm but in fairness a small bottle of Prosecco was drinkable and cold.

We have been to the William Gladstone a few times in the past and enjoyed our experience,and as we were in Liverpool again we thought we would call again.On this occasion I ordered drinks at the bar but had to wait about seven minutes to be served as there was only one staff serving,two other staff came past the barman but were not interested in serving me.Want rush back again.

Our daughter and son in law took us for our anniversary it was excellent and would certainly go back again

Went for a drink on Saturday 1st June lunch time just got to liverpool from Surrey. Asked about a table for later to watch the liverpool game Vanessa sorted one out for us which was great so we could sit and watch it. Great night all staff excellent would definitely visit again for another match. Just a shame air con not working!! But great customer service thanks

Nice location between the Pier Head and the Cavern area.Pub grub,reasonable portions and good lager.Not too crowded when I visited but probably a bit busy on weekends and or major football matches..

Someone told us to go to this pub while we were in Liverpool for a weekend. So glad they did. Food brilliant and not expensive beer too was a great price so all weekend we had lunch and our tea here. Staff was also great, easy to chat with and always had a smile on there faces which made it a relaxed and happy pub to be in. Love this pub

I was quite surprised to read the negative comments, possibly there are staff issues. However I found the drinks prices low in comparison with other city centre pubs we used. This pub is part of a chain which I am not familiar with.

Busy but a nice relaxed atmosphere, plenty of televisions for sport, goods very typical pub grub nothing amazing but can’t complain. Good drinks selection, great service! Mark in particular should get a lot of credit, involved in his guests without being pushy and just made us feel really comfortable and happy Thankyou!

This is a drinking pub primarily...and thus has that feel about it. Super sticky floors and expensive drinks... Is good for groups of drinkers on a pub crawl but I wouldn't come here again myself.

Been here a couple of times and always found it to have a great atmosphere, very good location too, look forward to my next visit
