This is a lovely little restaurant on route to Stirling Castle and it serves the most delicious Thai food, the staff are Thai and can advise the most uneducated into the ingredients of their menu, you feel like one of their family and there is never to urge to get you out of your table, in fact when you book you can be there for as long as you want.

had pre booked for 3 people on Sunday evening so we arrived on time and were expected. Ordered our drinks and meals. Drinks arrived promptly as did the starters. We were still waiting for the main courses though at 8.30 having arrived at 7. When they arrived there was a side dish that was forgotten about and then was brought out eventually after reminding the waiter. no complaints with the food to be fair but pretty bad service as I wouldn't normally be that happy about waiting 90mins for my main course so if you have lots of time(and want to buy bottles of wine) then I would recommend, otherwise....

I think this cosy restaurant would offer a very intimate dining experience and would be perfect on a night out with friends. When we dropped in for lunch it was empty, however, which is such a shame because the food on offer is delicious and the staff so attentive. Fresh flavours in an authentic environment served up by friendly and helpful staff. What's not to love?

Visited on 31.05.15. Step 1. Trudge 400 yards to a "legit" ATM to get cash. Why? Not told at time of booking that cash only as Switch facility not up and running. In a cashless society it is reasonable and normal to pay by debit card. The service? Pleasant but erratic on occasions. Action.....pause.The food? The food was actually very good and the portions generous. Mixed starter usual fare but well cooked. Lamb starter was delicious. Ditto their Thai take on lamb shank. Can't honestly vouch for authenticity but we all enjoyed, really enjoyed, what we had. @£80 for 3 with a tip and worth £80.In conclusion, if Banks are truly making life this difficult for restaurants to get debit card machines that is a disgrace. If restaurants don't advise "cash only" at time of booking that is also a disgrace..

Me and my friend always love to search for nice food in Stirling. Since we were studying in Stirling and live close to the town, we always tend to find restaurants that are easy to go to. Went there since I was a fresher student , both of us totally agreed that the standard of food are totally awesome. Although it is not technically cheap, you get excellent quality of traditional Thai food ! Since then , we keep going back until we both graduate! If I find an opportunity, I would definitely go back!

Been eating in here last time, two years ago. Stopped because very small portions where being served despite many comments advising management of discontented customers.I was here yesterday and hoped new management would be better. Portions size definetly better. Pad kraw prow good. Good green curry and average red curry on a par with a Tesco takeaway. The noodles dish almost cold and not really nice despite waiter raccomandation. 3 tables in and the kitchen seamed to come to a stand still with quite some wait for the main courses. Waiter a bit lost on a quite night , I dread to think what it would be on a busy night.. Both in the floor and in the kitchen !!!. The first few weeks of any restaurant are always the make or brake for the business. You should really get your act together as you are coming across quite amateurish. I really wish for this place to succeed as is the only Thai restaurant near by. But just don't try to run a restaurant, albeit quite small, with just one person on the floor and one in the kitchen. As a new venture you could have expected some brisk business with new and old customer checking out your operation. Menu reasonably priced !! Wishing all the best.

I had wanted to come here for months as it was highly recommended. When we decided to come it had just been taken over and was under new management. The food could not have been faulted, we decided to go for the banquet meal A as we had never had any Thai food before and with this option we managed to try a good selection. It all tasted amazing. However the service wasn't the best, don't get me wrong the man was lovely but he was very forgetful and seemed to be very stressed. He told us how he wasn't expecting it to be as busy as it was, there were 3 small tables in! I was slightly surprised when he mentioned he had been working there for a while, although maybe he just lacked training. Maybe something for management to think about so they can improve. I will still return, hopefully the bad service was just a blip and it will be improved once the staff know exactly what they should be doing.

This isn't easy.Wanida and John have 'retired' after 12 years running Wilawan. The restaurant is now trading as Talay Thai and we wish Da and all her team every success. Please, please give them the support you have given Wanida and I over the years. You are guaranteed authentic Thai food at reasonable prices in pleasant surroundings with one major advantage over Wilawan.I will not be subjecting you to my warped and somewhat politically incorrect sense of humour!!Before I go, I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all the good people that we have had the honour of and you need to know that without you, there would have been no Wilawan.I must go now because I'm beginning to fill up but please, give Talay Thai your support.Keep the legend alive.Wanida and I thank you all.

Perhaps I'm spoiled ... my wife is Thai ... we get excellent Thai food at inexpensive prices where we live in Germany. While the Food was acceptable, I have never know my wife to want to eat an entire portion of Som Tam ... tonight she ate it all and was still very hungry .. she ate a second main meal! She was so shocked by the small size of the portion, she asked me to take a photo of it!Add into that equation that the restaurant said they put extra in because we had to wait so long! And then the price! ... That was eye watering by my expectations (in Germany that meal would have cost less than 35€ here it was £50 ... £2.50 for a small potion of sticky rice ... "are you kidding!!!" And it took over 45 mins from ordering the food to it being brought out to us, my wife says an hour, but I'm not so sure it was that long.Won't be going back! ... and my wife was saying "next time I will wait until I go back to Germany for Thai food" - Far more likely is that we'll buy the spices, or bring them with us, and cook our own.Thank you for an education!

Ate here in a spur of the moment choice after discovering the closure of the restaurant next door. It was on a Saturday night and the place was busy but not crammed. The friendly, attentive and helpful waitress showed us to a table in the back part of the restaurant which reminded us of home, a very quiet and comfortable table despite the Saturday night crowd. Within moments our drinks orders were taken and we were given an extensive and attractive menu to mull over. The thai fish cakes and the tempura king prawns were absolutely faultless, fresh, flavoursome and cooked perfectly and authentically. The food only improved with the main course, with the Panang chicken and the other main being amongst the best food either of us had ever eaten, the rice sides were perfect too. The key point to each dish was you could taste the freshness of the food combined with excellent flavour. The staff were always on hand without being overbearing, and the time spent in the restaurant was a very relaxing and rewarding dining experience. The value for money was also spot on, with 4 drinks and two starters and mains coming in at comfortably under £55 all in. A 100% must try in Stirling, we will be back soon.

I honestly don't understand why this isn't rated #1 restaurant in Stirling. The food is fantastic - wonderfully cooked, full of interesting, vibrant flavours and beautifully presented - and the atmosphere is wonderful, with lots of chat and laughter. A real gem of a place. We're not the most adventurous diners and have lived in Stirling for years before eating here; we're sorry we waited so long. Perhaps part of the reason is the unprepossessing look of the place from the outside and the fact that they don't advertise at all Maybe that's because they're so good they don't need to advertise, but that means that some people out there don't know about it, which is a shame.

The warm welcome we received from the waitress Ploy was very sincere. The food was amazing as we like all kinds of food. The lunch menu meal we started with spicy soup and fish cakes followed by a No16 and No 17 which was a Chillie stir fry. Then a tapioca sweet with a mixture of other very tasty additions. My wife had a pancake and coconut ice cream all served very appealing. This was a overall great meal served by the most friendly waitress.

Die Kellnerin hat uns kompetent und sehr freundlich beraten. Wie bereits vorgewarnt ging es etwas länger, bis der erste Gang serviert wurde. Dafür wurden wir mit jedem Bissen belohnt. I am not experiences in Thai food therefore let a colleague order various Prawn, Chicken, Duck and Monk Fish dishes on my behalf and we were all just going to share. I tried a bit of each and everythign was lovely and of good fresh quality. This restaurant is ideal for this type of dining as everything is served in little dishes with rice separately so easy to share. The restuarant was limited in beet selection - I think only Tiger beer, and only 1 Rose wine option which we drank the two bottles of and that was their stock finished. We went on a Wednesday evening at 6.30pm and by 7.30pm the restaurant was full (although it is small). Therefore I would recommend booking! The staff were all knowledgable and authentic and very attentive.Through the back towards the kitchen area there is the toilet - one toilet for both male and female.i would recommend this restaurant and absolutely return!

The 2 women on the floor were very pleasant and extremely efficient. We shared a platter starter and had a main course each with one portion of noodles and one drink each and the bill came to £49. If you want to spend £49 go to Mango's indian for a far superior meal.In my opinion the meal was worth about £30 so was a tad overpriced. And so, do we need another Thai restaurant in Stirling? I sincerely think so if it were to bring something new and exciting.

We tried this restaurant for the first time on Monday 11th February and found that their 'banquet for two' option at £20.95 a head was great value, with a marvellous selection of starters followed by two excellent mains with pad thai, rice and stir fried vegetables, then a very nice not too sweet coconut ice cream was really very good indeed. It suffered from the usual failing of much thai food that it was not exactly piping hot, but the flavours really were excellent. The only thing that let the restaurant down a little was the service. When shown to our table, there was an empty beer bottle hiding on an adjacent shelf and there were no napkins provided. When we ordered a bottle of merlot, which was in itself fine, if with a little too much of a tannin aftertaste, after pouring out two glasses (with no opportunity to taste first) the top was firmly put back on again. Service was friendly enough, but plates of food were put down without thought as to accessibility on what was a very small table, so just a minor black mark - perhaps the waitress involved was new.Overall, though, a restaurant well worth giving another visit to

Always eat here when shopping in stirling lunch menu is great value for money at £8.95 per person for 2 courses. Only complaints would be a larger portion of chicken satay for the starter!!! And the soft drinks are poured from large plastic bottles would be nicer to have either cans or the small glass bottles instead. Apart from that we had another lovely meal and will no doubt be back in a couple of weeks.

This restaurant is fantastic, located in the centre of Stirling, it is the best Thai food I have tasted outside of Thailand. I go there with my friends when I am back in Scotland and it is simply a pleasure every time. The staff are super friendly and attentive, the decor and atmosphere are nice. Most importantly the food is delicious and also well presented. I would recommend the thai green curry and coconut rice. The deserts are also good and if you chose a cup of green or jasmine tea to end the meal, it will come in a very cute elephant teapot. Simply wonderful.

I cannot say enough about this little gem of a place. I love, love, love the food, staff and place so much. I go every year for my birthday and as often as possible. The Thai house white wine is fab and cheap. And the sweet potato fritters are to die for.

Visited Wilawan's tonight in a group of 4. We'd been several times but my parents hadn't been before. We had 2 courses each and all dishes were freshly made and all very tasty. Highly recommend the Chicken Yang and the Sirloin Steak sizzler. The Pud Mee noodles are a must. Free Thai prawn crackers are provided at the start of the meal also.Excellent service and lovely atmosphere. No need to book on a Sunday but would imagine you'd need to book on a Friday or a Saturday.Lots of choice on the menu. Dishes range from Pork. Chicken, Beef, Vegetable and many fish dishes. A good mix of mild to hot dishes so something for everyone's palate.Good range of alcoholic drinks from wine to the usual spirits. No draught beer but Tiger & Singha is served in bottles.Spotlessly clean restaurant and the toilets are of the same high standard. Our bill for 4 adults came to £97, that was for 2 courses each (2 of which were the grilled king prawns) and 2 alcoholic drinks each.In summary, I'll be coming again, very soon! Try this place, you won't be disappointed!!

It has been a while since I last ate here and after last nights experience I do not know why. Two of us enjoyed the mixed starter selection, a Thai Green curry, and sea bass in pickled plum with Thai herbs, noodles and rice. The fish was absolutely outstanding! The service was perfect - welcoming, efficient, and we were delighted to be able to relax and chat without feeling rushed in any way.I honestly can't wait to go back. On another positive, the uncomfortable chairs from my last visit have been replaced - perfect! Please do try this place, it really was very good.

we've eaten in many Thai restaurants but this remains our favourite, we travel 45 miles to eat here and its worth every minute, always welcoming and service is amazing, usually 4 of us and if we finish a dish or rice the waitress always asks if we would like filled back up at no extra charge, the mixed starter platter is so good, we once had it as a dessert, this was no fault of portions just greed. i cant recommend any specific main course as i've tried almost all of them and 1s as good as the other dependent on your taste, but try it and guarantee you'll be back

We were on holiday in Scotland and had gone to the castle for the day. At lunchtime we nipped out and came across the Wila Wan. Looked bit scruffy from the outside but the lunch menu in the window enticed us in. Once inside we were greeted by friendly staff. We opted for the lunch meal deal, two courses for under £10. All food was freshly cooked and delicious. I had the fishcakes, other half had the chicken wings, mmmmmm. Our starter was good but our mains were amazing, I would say it was the best Thai we have been to. I had the Thai curry with noodles (not yellow, green or the red one) and I didn't want it to end. Our little girl had a satay chicken stick with a bowl of plain rice filled with all kinds of fresh vegetables. We then fancied a pud so shared the pancake filled with coconut that came with coconut ice cream, words cannot describe how delicious this was. We will be going back to Stirling just to go here.

Been here a few times before and always believed it to be my personal favourite in Stirling. The food is excellent and I have never had any issues with quality or quantity. I do understand the comments regarding the price for some dishes yet you get what you pay for! I have been in the evening but this week I decided to try it for lunch (8.95 for 2 courses) The quality and standard were on par with my previous visits and portion size was just right. Excellent lunch for my partner and I, £20 odd pound for a great meal and 4 (large) glasses of wine will definitely be back and don't be put off if it's quiet for lunch.... I think that's just the way Baker street in Stirling is at that time of day. Great job guys!!

Stirling is not noted as a gastronomic hot spot, so I was initially sceptical when a friend suggested Wila Wan. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. The restaurant has a rather intimate feel and the staff were delightful. The food was nicely prepared and presented and was really very good. I had steamed sea bass with sticky rice and my husband had an unusual prawn and mussel 'parcel' . Prices were very reasonable. Overall, a very nice experience.

The food was of good quality, however, we felt that some of the mains are overpriced. For example, pad Thai (noodles) with vegetables was £10.95, which was the same as with chicken, or a main chicken/meat curry dish. Our meal came to £40 for only one starter, two meals, one dessert, a beer and an orange juice. We eat in a lot of Thai restaurants and this has been by far the most expensive. Service was ok, had to ask for water, atmosphere wasn't fab as not many tables in. However, the food itself was pleasant. We would return but will probably try other restaurants in the area first.

I visited Stirling recently & had a meal at this Thai restaurant. Unfortunately I was very disappointed in both the food & the service. I had a vegetarian starter which was really greasy - unpleasantly so. And Pad Thai for main course. I wouldn't have thought it was possible to make a bad Pad Thai but this one was bland & flavourless. Only the addition of chopped apricots in the dish gave any flavour & it is definitely the first time I've ever encountered apricots in a Pad Thai!! I felt the meal overall was very disappointing & definitely not worth the price charged.

Dined here last night with the other half and have done so on many occasions. The atmosphere is laid back, relaxed and elegant. The food so authentic you could close your eyes and be forgiven for thinking you were actually in Thailand. I lived there for 3 years so would like to think I know a thing or two about Thai. Tom Yum with king prawns to start...gorgeous followed by a beautifully spicy beef salad with all the appropriate flavours required for this dish. A nice and very reasonably priced white Rioja to wash it all down with and I as made up. Total bill came to £52 for the two of us and I would happily have paid more! Will be back! Krap-kun-kap!

Great authentic thai food, with humble and reserved service. Definitely a place worth a visit if you like thai food. Some of the food prices were maybe touching being a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for and it was of a high quality. Drink prices very reasonable! Four of us visited recently and we all said it was one of the best thai meals we have had. Maybe lacking a bit of the raw heat I would expect, but the vegetarian options didn’t really have this. Although staff were accommodating and able to adapt to taste – it maybe just didn’t for my palate as I love chilli!

The food was nice - three out of four dishes we had were good so no complaints. The dish that we didn't like was the Beef stir fry with chilli and basil - I would not order this one again as the meat was poor quality and the dish didn't taste authentic. Som Tum, Tom Yum an Red curry chicken tasted like they should so we did have an enjoyable experience. The food was, however, somewhat overpriced. If you want Thai in Stirling this is your only choice and it's not bad.

This is a nice looking restaurant and was very busy. We booked prior to going but we were left at least 15 mins before being given a menu and eventually had to prompt the staff. Then we were left another 15 mins before our drinks orders were taken. When starters arrived one of them was wrong so we had to send it back , then we waited another 20 mins before the right one came. Food when it did come was quite good . We paid around £47 for starters/mains and 2 drinks.

Food is excellent but restaurant needs attention. We ordered chicken satay and chicken spring rolls to start. Both yummy. For main we went for Moo Dang and a pineapple curry. Again, very tasty. Price-wise it was all very reasonable. The restaurant itself just needs some general maintenance. But overall, really good.

Buena comida y volveremos!
