We visited here for Sunday lunch. 6 adults 1 dog. We were met by very friendly staff. Lovely warmly environment. We all had soup or chowder to start followed by roast lamb, roast beef and pork belly washed down with a lovely bottle (or 2) of red wine! We didn’t have desserts as we were all full. Probably the nicest Sunday lunch we’ve had in a long time ! Will definitely be back .

We were celebrating a birthday and chose this place as an up-market eating house in Alnmouth. The staff were brilliant but the food was disappointing. Two of us had the venison pie which was mainly mushroom filling and not much meat. One had the seafood pasta dish which was bland.

We had heard great things about the restaurant and the place we were staying had recommended it so we were looking forward to it. We had hoped to have the lobster but this was sold out when we ordered which was a shame but happens with popular dishes. The starters were of high quality, well presented and tasted very good so we looked forward to the rest of our meal. The vegetarian burger was awful and the flavour kept coming back for days, one of our other party had the pea risotto which was a huge pile of peas and rice lacking in any real flavour and we had to ask for some parmesan cheese to make it palatable. We left most of the dishes and were not asked why. The cheesecake tasted shop-bought and claggy although we may have been mistaken. The remaining main and dessert was very good. I would suggest that perhaps avoid going here if you are a vegetarian as the choice is very limited and the dishes are either strange tasting or tasteless. The meat dishes appear to be better but the desserts vary.

The staff went above and beyond to make the surprise party for our friend extra special. The food was lovely and Joy even made two bespoke cocktails for our group, named in honour of the birthday girl. The service was friendly and quick and the private area we were given made it a very special afternoon.

We went for a family dinner and the 6 of us cleaned the plates. The service was impeccable, the staff could not do enough for us. We recommend the cheese soufflé and the crab, absolutely delicious. We will go back again from the Thwaites family.

An excellent ‘proper’ pub with real ales and friendly bar. Separate restaurant for gastropub food which was very good. The steak pie is as previously described: fantastic! Home made that day with generous filling. Delicious. The menu and daily specials were enticing. Our meals were perfectly cooked (compliments to the chef). A great place for great price.

Went for the 2 course lunch menu. The food was very tasty but the portions were measured to say the least. Then we made the mistake of opting to finish with Turkish coffee without checking the menu for its price. At £9.20 for two thimble-fulls it was a sobering experience.

Its a shame the pub isn't open at lunchtime, but the owner did explain he can't get the staff or chefs. The area desperately needs a pub open at lunchtime, even although 1st Nov is considered "out of season" (the three surrounding caravan parks were all still busy). Very friendly owner, good beer, didn't sample the food in the evening. There aren't really any "cosy nooks" - it seems arranged for busy summer meal times. Dog friendly too.
