Great bar good choice of ales and great menu with seasonal dishes as well as standard pub food .

Since this pub has been renamed "Black shale" and had a complete overhaul, it is so very much improved. Really comfortable , and very good decor. Very helpful, and friendly staff. Superb foods. Myself and a friend wanted something to eat, but, not too heavy. So we both chose "Fish finger Sandwiches". When the food came , we were not disappointed, it was superb, hot, tasty, food, and just the right thing to have.... We were both impressed. I would recommend it to anyone. The seats were very comfortable too...👍👍. This pub is also near the Beeston Interchange near Beeston Square - so very easy to get to by tram, or bus....

Didn't have any of the food although the menu looked good. Came for the quiz, absolutely brilliant. Great service. 2 Canadian thumbs up.

Clean, modern but no atmosphere, over £10 for two pints of lager

Fantastic Sunday lunch , the beef is pink and succulent, the pork is really tasty and the chicken is beautifully cooked. Prices start at £17.95 upto £21.95 for mixed (all three together)well worth it !

Absolutely fuming waited 25mins no one came for a drinks order or food, walked out!!! 3 members of staff at the till with no customers

Only eaten at White Lion once for Sunday lunch - enjoyed meal & manager & staff very friendly & helpful. Been in for evening drinks a few times. Good choice of beer and friendly bar staff. Good to see this major refurb seems to have been successful as for a long time it has been an eyesore but it's totally turned round.

Pretty average here, service was pretty bad as everyone had called in sick apparently. Not the staff's fault! They were at least very polite despite being run off their feet

Love the refurb, food was delicious, especially the chunky chips. Great and unique vegan menu available. Duncan was our waiter and was really friendly, helpful and personal.

We only had drinks, most enjoyable as we stayed for 3! Will go back to try the food in the near future. The menu looked nice and well proportioned, there was plenty on there to interest us. Service at the bar was to be expected, little to no waiting. See you soon.

Best Sunday lunch. Excellent service, Roast beef and veg absolutely delicious.

Bar too small and too noisey. Beer is cloudy and they had three attempts to make a shandy.

Visited last night whilst on a bike ride (The white lion). Had a lovely couple of pints sitting at the front. It's a really nice pub with nice decor and very clean. Craig behind the bar was very friendly and attentive. We will be back when next in that neck of the woods

First time in, since the place reopened. We called in lunch time, not very busy, the meal was fantastic. Highly recommended

I went early lunchtime and there was only me and a couple in there so not much atmosphere. The background music was subtle. The decor is very stylish. I will definitely go back, maybe in the evening.

Lincoln Green have taken over the running of the pub and created a bar and separate restaurant and it's excellent. The bar is a good size serving all core beers, a couple of seasonal beers and some guest beers. The restaurant is very well presented and has a very nice menu. I haven't eaten there yet, but my wife has and really enjoyed her meal. A good addition to the Beeston pub scene.

Used to frequent the old spacious White Lion in years gone by, very disappointed at how small the area allocated to the pub is. Felt pokey and cramped. Obviously Blackshale are seen as the main owners of this building now, such a shame as had been looking forward to it re-opening.

Food is brilliant very well made and tasty but would like a bigger menu as I feel like I’m choosing the same items everytime. Beer garden is lovely would be brill if we didn’t have to order food to just sit out and have a drink as the white lion part is a bit small and usually full . staff are lovely and hard working overall I love the pub and kitchen would highly recommend but just some tweaks to the menu. Maybe allow people to sit outside if they just want a drink?

They've done a lovely job of it but the landlord is abrupt and it can put you off. I know it's his baby but needs to be more approachable. Saw other customers leave as soon as they could.

Updated old pub. Split into the White Lion pub and Blackshale restaurant. Lovely and clean as you'd expect from a new venue, with great staff. Good choice of Lincoln Green beers in both sides. Nice pub snacks in the White Lion and posh nosh in the Blackshale, although a bit pricey.

Something to note. The original White Lion has been taken over by Lincoln Green brewery. It is operated as two separate bars. The White Lion bar serves mainly cask beers. We visited the second bar, called the Blackshale Inn, that has its own separate entrance. We booked on line which was easy to do. We had a warm welcome and taken to our table. We were given the menu's that includes gluten free options which is great as my wife is a celiac. They pleasingly have their own gluten free beer, Marion, and I had one of the brewers craft beers Drifter. This was a lovely fruity beer, quite strong at 7.5abv. We had gluten free goat cheese souffle and potted shrimp as starters, both very nice. We followed with a gluten free porchetta belly pork and blade of beef for mains, both were really nice, we thoroughly enjoyed them. I also had another beer, a stout this time called Black Ripper at 5%abv, again very nice. The staff were really helpful and friendly and we liked the way the restaurant was laid out. The menu isn't vast, but that could be a a good thing, given our experience. This was our first visit and it certainly won't be our last. We need to try the White Lion bar next. We would thoroughly recommend on this showing.

I was really looking forward to this pub reopening but unfortunately it is a bit of a damp squib. The food, beer and service are great but the beer garden lets the place down. If you just come for a drink and want to sit outside you have to sit on benches on a busy street or make your way through a ‘secret’ door, disturbing people eating in the restaurant, into a bland garden area. There is a small covered area but unfortunately not one that allows smoking or vaping so if it rains or has been raining you are not welcome. Hopefully the outside offering improves over time.

Recently reopened - mould on walls, cash only bar, horrendous karaoke, cheap, poor quality drinks at the bar with no hand pulled lines. Friend had bottle of wine so bad they left it, Amstel tasted odd. Won't be back.

Una vez más, tuve una gran porción de arroz en lugar del pan realmente bueno.La decoración se ve un poco cansada pero los baños están impecables y la comida deliciosa. Definitivamente uno para una visita de regreso.

What a delightful experience; handsome, helpful owner obviously loves cooking as his dishes are substantial, flavoursome and imaginative. Definitely a highlight of the day!

La comida estaba muy bien presentada, se veía muy apetecible y era muy sabrosa. El anfitrión fue muy amable. Realmente me gustó el aspecto del menú de Tapas, por lo que sin duda volveremos.

Fabulous Portuguese / Brazilian food at a good price cooked by a French chef. Very friendly bar staff too. All whilst listening to salsa and bachata music and drinking sangria. Feels like we're on holiday!

Nice pub near the Beeston Exchange. Quite nice Tappas selection as well as a monthly board game night

I have been to the White Lion a couple of times. They do specially themed food days. I think the owner is a Portuguese guy, and the food, especially the burgers are amazing. The Hungarian Street Food guys frequent the pub gardens and cook their own food to the joy of the eastern European residents of the city and anyone who loves "langos" or Hungarian style black pudding. They serve standard branded beers, and I reckon the wine range is better that a most average pubs (and there is nothing wrong being an average pub). The pub garden has some benches and tables, a worn three piece under a roof for rainy days and committed garden sitting types, and some outdoor toys for kids.

Considering the quality of the food and the price paid, it's probably the best tapas that we have had in Nottingham. The service was great, very polite and welcoming. I recommend the sangria. I fully recommend a visit.

Visitamos aquí como parte del regalo del día de la madre de mi esposa que habíamos estado en España, habíamos tenido tapas antes, pero nunca aquí tuvimos 4 tapas y 2 sangrías Comí langostinos con mantequilla de ajo y albóndigas picantes, siendo esta última mejor ya que las gambas eran un poco pequeña, mi esposa tenía croquetas de queso y pollo, y estaba impresionada con esta última también la sangría era muy agradable también podría volver a visitarla

We had a fabulous evening here. The proprietor is welcoming and an asset to the establishment, there was Latin American music piped through the speakers, we thought the tapas was outstanding and such good value. The decor is traditional pub and it's tired but it's clean. We will certainly go back. Looks like they have entertainment on some nights. The sangria was spot on.

Great food (even as a veggie), friendly relaxed atmosphere along with different dance events and live music. While the walls are decorated with work from local artists. :-)

Got my stuffed peppers to take home and heat up ! Can't say everything until I eat them but,pancake and Apricot jam went down a treat!

Met up with a small group of friends and had a lovely relaxed evening. Two of the group ordered food and it looked lovely. They really enjoyed the meals. I have tried pastie de nata on a previous visit and it was glorious. Very laid back service and very attentive to our group. I didn't have enough money to eat last night, but with an inviting menu, I'll be eating there soon as possible.

Went for upstairs Beeston Tales storytelling session. Nice large venue but let down by the fact that neither of the barmen had any idea of what they are selling through the pumps (e.g. I had to tell one of them that he was going to pull me a pint of lager when I'd asked for one of the bitters). I may come back for the monthly storytelling, but not as a local because I require that barstaff know something about the ales they are serving.

How disappointing was this place. Empty pub, went to the bar to find there was nobody to serve. Expenditure drinks, atmosphere was colder than the Antarctic. Why all the hype about this place, must have excited the occupants of the local mortuary........

Mi marido y yo visitamos este lugar varias veces en el pasado y nos pareció un lugar encantador para comer tapas y bebidas. Sin embargo, esta vez el lugar estaba desaliñado, con una barra llena de vasos vacíos y mesas sin aclarar. Dos años después de mi primera visita, los baños de las señoras aún tienen una fuga deficiente y la parte inferior de mis pantalones se empapó cuando me quedé quieto. No había papel higiénico para absorber el "líquido" en mis pantalones, así que tuve que irme a casa y cambiar ya que no podía decir si era agua o orina de alguien. No estoy seguro si es bajo una nueva administración, pero nos decepcionó en esta visita.

Nice enough place but was a little pricey for 2 pints of Sages at approx £4.50 ea. Was quiet too on a Friday night so no atmosphere to mention.

Great food and customer service :) We really enjoyed the Tapas and the seafood paella (new on the menu!), but my alltime favorite is the brazilian stroganoff!

I've been in the White Lion a few times now. The tapas are really good and it's a great place to have a nice proper meal.. the feijoada is really good! Today, we had sea food paella.. didn't disappoint!

I dropped in for a quick pint with a work colleague whilst producing an article and the smells from the kitchen simply proved too enticing.

I've been to White Lion several times, they have a delicious choice of tapas and are now serving a very authentic Paella. It is definitely one of the best pubs in Beeston!

Visit with friends, we ate a paella as if we were in Spain, very good, congratulations for the work to the whole team.
