Always friendly this pub/restaurant is top drawer, lovely building going back several hundred years I believe, little garden for the summer and very good aspect in terms of sunny days, dog friendly. Particularly charming covered seating area also. Always excellent thanks white horse

Me, to landlady: “Hello”Landlady: “You’ll need to sign in”Me: “No problem. How’s it going?”Landlady: “What do you want then?”Me: .....I get that it’s weird and stressful in hospitality at the moment, but the bare minimum I expect from a pub is an actual hello. This was possibly the least warm welcome I’ve ever received in any establishment. The younger landlord actually seems a decent chap, but the landlady seems to consider customers an inconvenience.Such a waste of a great location and a very characterful pub.

Had a disappointing experience as a member of staff would not stick to the 2 person at a time rule that she had asked me to abide by, letting a customer jump me in the queue. She then took a strong overreaction to the fact that I queried this and took it upon herself to search my friend on fb to inform him that I had been barred from the pub the next day. Complete abuse of the track and trace system put in place and feel quite disgusted that they would disregard customer confidentiality!!

A warm welcome awaits you here. The staff are very welcoming and warm. The food was good and hot (fairly standard pub fare but done to a good standard). They have specials but these were limited on the day we went as it was a Monday and they explained that they had been very busy over the weekend. The food however was still of a high standard and the personal touches by the staff made for a very good experience. We will definitely be back

The food was great a nice selection for dinner. We were a table of 6, the food came out quickly, it was hot and fresh. Only 1 disappointment was that the bar staff gave us our G&Ts without any gin in it, a different staff member was at the bar and she insisted it had gin in it...she made us feel foolish...we then spoke to the staff member who made it and she smelt it, apologised and straight away corrected it.

Having recently moved to this part of the world my wife and I are keen walkers and sometimes we stop for a refreshment at random pubs/inns on our treks. We have stopped at this pub quite a few times and have always found the place very warm with a lovely roaring fire and is always a very clean establishment. The female staff and landlady are always welcoming, warm and helpful. It’s a cosy Olde World style pub with a good selection of beers and the wife tells me the wines are lovely and chilled. There is a lovely garden out the back which we generally vacate to on our walks weather permitting. It notably even has a small car park “rare in this area” and caters well for smokers with a covered seating area outside. We have eaten here on a few occasions and can recommend the Sunday Lunch which is delicious, plentiful and is value for money.

Both chose the prawn mayo baguettes which were lovely and fresh with plentiful juicy king prawns. Served with a delicious dressed salad and crispy plain tortilla chips the portion was large and could not have been tastier. Well done and would highly recommend

April 8th Open Mic was, by general agreement, the best this year!We were entertained & spoilt (& serenaded at times) by a talented array of 25 musicians & vocalists, the youngest (& talented) of whom was in his teens. We were also treated to an excellent horn section, infact at one point ;there was almost a complete orchestra on stage . For those of you who are reading this & are unsure about supporting these showcases of local talent, get your A into G on a Monday night!

We were staying in Westbourne for the weekend and were immediately drawn to this Fillers Pub.Our first visit was on Friday evening and we quickly saw that this was a middle class locals pub which suited us perfectly. The first thing I'll say is that I would have normally given it a 4 star rating because of a couple of very minor points - a mistske on my final bill and I sometimes felt a bit ignored at the bar when trying to order a round while the girls were 'chatting'.It qualifies for that Fifth Star however because .... Hoorah!!!!!! Sanctuary ... there were no TV screens to be seen - absolutely wonderful.Anyway... the drinks on Friday were superb for Ale drinkers and my wife found the white wine 'lush. We went back on Sunday and had a delicious lunch there; roast pork for me with all the trimmings and a chicken dish for the wife - both meals came with generous portions and loads of vegetables. We finished off with a crumble each (with a choice of custard, cream or ice cream). The meal was excellent, service was good and it only cost £36.90 total for the 2 of us, inclusive of a small Coke each.

Today hubby and I really enjoyed Sunday lunch at the White Horse, in Westbourne. I had beef, he had pork, and both plates were presented crammed with roast beef/pork with oodles of crispy potatoes, a roast parsnip and a Yorkshire pudding in a tasty gravy. My beef was thickly sliced, really tender and full of flavour, hubby enjoyed his pork. The vegetables come piping hot in a large sharing bowl. A good variety, really fresh. Restaurant was pretty full - we’d booked - and nice mix of people in the restaurant. Only after we’d eaten did we discuss how we should have swapped a slice of each other’s roast, so we’d have tried both, especially as portions are so generous! Highly recommend!

The fact the pub was deserted at 6.30 should have been a clue. The only noise was the cook coughing away in the kitchen. The food, when it finally arrived, was just about edible. Not great.

Don't seem to be many good pubs in West Sussex but after a detailed search came up with this one which doesn't look particularly special from outside but the reviews were good so we thought we would try it for Saturday lunch. One of our better decisions! Delightful olde world pub with beams, horse brasses and delightful china condiments. Proper home cooked pub food prepared by the landlady and all very reasonably priced. Delicious main courses and proper puddings, like bread and butter pudding and custard. Not a gastro pub and nothing pretentious, just a best loved pub with excellent beer and food. Happy to recommend and would probably go out of my way to revisit if I'm in West Sussex again.

Travelling up from Emsworth to Petersfield we stopped off in Westbourne for lunch. Although on a sunny Saturday, we were able to get a parking space in the Square, opposite the White Horse. In fact, they also have a small designated car park at the rear. There is a straightforward bar menu which suited us well, but there is also an extensive specials board for the serious eater. Friendly, efficient staff made us welcome on what was clearly set to be a busy day with group bookings

Feel guilty admitting I have never had a meal at our local pub, eventhough I drink in the pub regularly. Finally a group of us went for Sunday lunch. From beginning to end the lunch was great and we spent a lovely few hours enjoying the cooking produced by Steph, who is both chef and landlady. Both roasts of beef and turkey were cooked to perfection. Plenty of veg accompanied the meal. The pudding of Guinness and chocolate was delicious. Nothing was rushed and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing and delicious meal in our local. Something we all agreed we would do again soon.

We took a leisurely lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. We started with a couple of drinks and some feta stuffed sweet red peppers to share between the two of us, they were really good as they had a subtle chilli kick about them.I followed this with the Moussaka and greek salad which was very enjoyable and my wife had the "Liver and Bacon" she always makes me taste her liver and bacon dish whenever she has it and I have to say this is the first time in my life I have enjoyed the taste and texture of Liver and Bacon. Chef when I complemented her said it was probably because it was lambs liver instead of pigs liver. Either way it was superb, I may even order it myself next time we visit. We accompanied our meal with a bottle of the house white which was very pleasant.Thank you for a lovely lunch.

We went to the White Horse PH for a pub meal and found that Wednesday nights are Thai food evenings. We tried the Thai menu which was adequate and a change from the usual pub food offering. I had not been to this pub before but it had a range of real ales and staff were friendly enough. It was very quiet which suggests that the Thai food offering is not being promoted very well. I think the nearest Thai restaurants are either in Portsmouth or Chichester. A reasonable meal and a pleasant enough pub but nothing very special.

I had moussaka with Greek salad and my husband had the chicken in white wine and mushroom sauce with the crispiest chips. We were served by the chef herself who carried the dishes out from the kitchen. We'll be going again! It's interesting that there is a skittle alley, so it would be good for a group evening. The pub is under new management and the website has not been updated. We turned up expecting a curry evening (curry and a drink for £8,95), but this was not on offer. We had lovely home cooked basic rustic food. The restaurant was straight out of a second hand shop, or auction. The tables did not match. The chairs matched by table, but not with others. Each condiment set matched, but was unique. Quirky - get the picture? The staff were lovely, and the portion sizes were very substantial.

This was the third pub we tried in the area, the other two had very long queues with 2 hour waits and car parks were full, so we were relieved to find a cosy corner table here, bench on one side, chairs the other, parking not too far away, the roast dinners were perfectly acceptable, large portions, service friendly if not particularly quick, and they took the dog and toddler in their stride - although no nappy changing area other than the toilet floor was an issue. An enjoyable and relaxed afternoon, thank you.
