Whitby's in Rotherham

I didn’t enjoy the convention as much as I had hoped I would but the cod and chips made up for it . Yum yum , I think I ordered a whale not a fish great portions

Went today with my family, had regular cod, but was very disappointed with the fish. It was way too thin, I wold rather pay a little more an not get a cut down piece

Had our usual take away tonight, partner had pie and chips, very poor portion. I had scampi and chips, paid for 10 pieces of scampi only got 8 and one of them was an empty shell, again very poor portion of chips . Called up to complain about the scampi and was very rudely told WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO!! I explained very calmly that the next time we came in it would been nice for some kind of gesture seeing as we were regular customers. And guess what she put the phone down on me. So lm now in the process of arranging to see the manager at Whitby’s. Hopefully she will be reprimanded

Had takeaway cod, chips and home made pie. At a price of £5:95 for the pie I was expecting a deep filled luxury pie. WRONG. A pile of stewed steak with an inedible pastry lid. Served in a cardboard box that didn’t hold it well by the time I got it home. Cod was also thin and tasteless. Definitely gone downhill. It’s always been the best chippy in the area. I will leave it a couple of months before returning and hopefully put the poor experience down to one off.

My friends and I (except Chloe, she’s simply a colleague) went for a nice Fish and Chips to Whitbys. It was in fact in Rotherham, and not Whitby. However the food was scrumptious ! I particularly enjoyed the texture of the battered sausage. I washed it down with a nice slurp of Coke. I will be returning in the near future

Went to takeaway and just wanted scampi & chips and a cod on its own. When I got back to the car I had a look at the cod. The box it was in I thought was empty, it was that light. I took it back to takeaway and asked if it was proper size and was told it was. I said I had seen bigger goldfish at fair and that I wouldn't be going back ever. I have used Whitbys ever since it opened and have posted both good and bad reviews but this occasion was by far the worst. £6.85 for a cod that didn't match half the size they were when Whitbys opened.

Omg! Consistently giving me a perfect Gluten-free meal. I've said this time and again, that It's so rare to find a decent batteted fish and chip meal when we're out. We think nothing of adding 20 minutes to our journey, for Whitby's superb battered Haddock and chips. Thank you so much again you genius chef. We live in Birmingham but will go out of our way for this delicious treat.

A big Thank You to Whitbys, Catcliffe who fed 35 members of the Barnsley and District Multiple Sclerosis Support Group yesterday, 20th January, It cannot have been easy working with such a large party in a packed restaurant but you did quickly and efficiently especially Michelle who was extremely organised with a continuous smile on her face. The food was up to its usual high standard, hot and everyone eating at the same time. It’s the second year running the group have visited and thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Not been for a couple of years as I thought the food had gone down hill but today's visit from the takeaway was beautiful. the chips were cooked to perfection and the quality of the haddock was very good. It would of been 5 stars but the size of the haddock was probably the smallest iv ever had from any fish and chip shop would say it was like a mini fish but apart from that it was gorgeous

Should have booked. The car park was very busy but ample space. The place was packed but the receptionist said 15 minutes and it was bang on! We had drinks at the bar while we waited. The drinks were a reasonable price. The selection of draught was limited to a Spanish larger and a British beer. We were shown to our table and our order was taken promptly. The regular cod which was big was perfectly cooked in crispy batter and the chips were perfect. The mushy peas were good. The staff were all really efficient and pleasant. We will return.

Been going here on a regular basis most Saturdays for the last year or so, over the last 3 months have noticed the quality service & product has been varied to say the least. We know what it can be like so accepted the blips but no more! todays gripes cod & chips half the chips came hot half cold on the same plate. The fruit in Knickerbockers Glory yet again tainted by onion! experienced this twice before. So sadly that’s it no more chances.

Between 3 of us we ordered haddock, 2 cod and 3 x chips. Waitress no idea which one was the haddock when she brought them to the table, had to go back and check. The haddock was tiny even tho I ordered their largest size, and it was dried up either it had been overcooked or left under a heater for a long time. Chips were luke warm. No one came to check our food was okay. Did they know what they had given us was of a poor standard? When paying I complained but the attitude was - so what? Not even an apology? All round terrible dining experience. I will counter this poor review by saying I have been to their sister site in Doncaster and the fish and chips there have always been tremendous but unfortunately this was not and I wont ever be going back.
