Wheatacre White Lion in South Norfolk

Nice pub, friendly staff and great food. We stayed for a night and unfortunately a radiator leaked on my partners shoes and ruined them (hence loss of stars) Other than that, a nice B&B too.

Visited at lunchtime today whilst in the area for my partners birthday. Amazing, friendly service (I'd mentioned that it was my fiancé's birthday and arrived to a balloon and happy birthday sign, and we were given a taster dessert with Happy Birthday piped on it FOC). Food was fantastic, so tasty. This is my second visit and I'd go again.

We stopped in here for some food whilst staying at the Priory Glamp site. The staff are very friendly, and the food is out of this world ! If you are near, it's a must!

We’ve been eating at the White Lion for many years now, unfortunately our visit yesterday was disappointing. Service was great but the menu is now very limited as seen on the sample menu. Although there were some specials if you have a fussy eater you might struggle. The couple on the table next to us felt the same. This will prevent us booking again unless the menu changes, such a shame!

Me and my partner went in for a male and the food was cold my chips got put in a metal cup with paint chipping of it which did not eat the chips because they were soggy because they was in a metal cup. I have been there multiple times with family but when me and my and my partner went the way to service was slack if any fault like I got discriminated against Eva because of my age or sexuality preference

My partner and I went for a Valentine’s Day evening out, sadly very disappointing. The food is very good, if not a little bit on the pricey side but not too shocking, however, the service is essentially non-existent. First of all, we waited for around 20 minutes just for someone to come over and take an order, not overly a problem but it should’ve been a sign of things to come. After placing our order we waited. And waited. And waited. Around 40-50 minutes. In which time multiple tables had been served starters and main although ordering after us. I managed to wave down a waiter and ask about our food. We watched as him and another waitress went back and forth with each other. Soon after food finally arrived, with an apology and offer of a free dessert and our drinks taken off the bill. We thank the waiter and start eating. Now we’ve finished our mains and we wait. We wait and we wait and we wait. No one comes to ask if we want more drinks, no one comes to clear plates, no one comes to offer dessert. So we decide to pay and leave. This is the second time we’ve visited now and it’s the second time service has been poor. So for anyone going the food is lovely. But be prepared to wait.

Birthday meal for my nephew. Service was excellent and everyone enjoyed lunch.

Came for a meal on Christmas Eve with my partner and puppy (there’s a dedicated seating area that’s dog friendly). Every member of staff we spoke to were so lovely and welcoming. Our food was absolutely delicious some of the best food I’ve ever had out. The pub is cosy and inviting, a lovely atmosphere and booked to go back for another special occasion.

Gloriously beautiful situation and gardens, inside has a cosy bar and spacious restaurant. Popular with locals and visitors alike as well as some well behaved dogs who very much appreciated the doggie bar treats. The staff were lovely - friendly and helpful and buzzing round making sure all were having a good time. The menu is obvious put together by someone who knows and loves food and was executed very well indeed. Highly recommend!

Visited here this evening to celebrate our birthdays on our weekend away. We were able to book a table to eat with our dog too and the was absolutely amazing, along with the service/staff. I’m a coeliac (gluten free) and had some lovely choices on the menu and felt confident with what I was being served. Would definitely recommend!!

Been vegan for 20 years, been all over the world, had some great vegan food, and you know what, we didn't expect to find such good quality vegan food in the middle of the broads! The cauliflower stater was perfect, so perfect, I ordered another. I had an excellent vegan Sunday roast for mains, it was superbly seasoned! It was really good. So, so impressed with this place. The staff were a delight, it wasn't expensive, it's a lovely old building and the outdoor area is really well presented. Top quality vegan food! The toilets even had mini hand towels to dry your hands. Only seen this in 4/5 star restaurants. Nice touch!

Live local to here but never had anymore than a drink before. Perfect roast for Mr and perfect fish & chips for me. Definitely be back.

Met up with old friends and the spacious dining area allowed for a large table. Plenty of choice on the menu with some interesting and very pleasant combinations. The food was of a good quality and quantity served promptly and all together which doesn’t always happen with large groups. Although it is a fair bit off the beaten track it is well worth the diversion.

Had a meal and stayed the night. Meal was wonderful and the room was comfortable and clean. However, the service was fantastic... Nothing was too much for us and a nice little birthday surprise for me too. Lovely relaxed atmosphere made for a superb evening all round. Thank you.

WE had a lovely evening at The White Lion. The service was excellent and so was the food. I am vegetarian and ordered the beetroot tart which was gorgeous...so much flavour in the beetroot and dressed with courgette spaghetti and watercress(?) and pine nuts and served with hassleback potatoes. Even in this day and age, it is not always easy to find tasty and interesting vegetarian food but I would be very keen to go back and try the other options on the menu at this pub. My friends are meateaters and also enjoyed their meals...beautiful food, well presented. Highly recommend for vegetarians/vegans and meateaters!

Went to the white lion on Friday last week. Absolutely great setting, atmosphere was perfect, staff were very attentive. The food was also delicious, value for money was definitely achieved and will definitely go back!

Had a great stay and evening meal and drinks but breakfast in the morning was disappointing one small poached egg overdone one piece of bacon that you could snap it was that dry ,one mushroom one sausage one grilled tomato small pot of beans was well over priced for what you got apart from that had nice time .

We have now visited The White Lion for many months and both the food and service is perfect. We sat outside in the summer and in the restaurant in the cooler months and on both occasions the smiling staff have been most welcoming. I would recommend to all who enjoy good food and helpful staff.

I have eaten here several times and has always been very good. After lockdown myself and friends decided to book a room here and dinner. Everything was lovely the staff in the restaurant were excellent and answered all our questions. I had steak and triple cooked chips. The steak was average and the chips were awful. We booked in a week or so before our meal. We booked for a Monday evening. The restaurant wasn’t very busy. We were seated a few tables away from anyone, which was nice & also abiding to Covid 19 measures. We visited for family lunch. Covid-19 arrangements were very good. Food was brilliant, staff were professional and very friendly. I would recommend the Pork Belly which was delicious. Apparently the Chicken Caesar Salad was very good too. I would not hesitate to visit again when in the area.

Had another great meal at the Wheatacre white lion yesterday. The first since pandemic. The Food was, as always much better than normal pub grub. All of our four meals were superbly presented and good value, the service was a little slow but staff were pleasant and made up for their shortfall in service by being polite and pleasant even due to their unexpected busyness on a very hot day. Still overall a superb luncheon experience. Felt safe with social,distances and will,return.

Visited this pub last week and I was thrilled. Firstly, we felt safe; it was clear that this establishment is taking Covid regulations seriously, which was really reassuring.The food was absolutely incredible and we were so well looked after by all of the staff there. It was clearly a busy afternoon with diners outside and in the restaurant but we were attended to at all times and the servers couldn’t have done more to help us. I had the pork belly and it was beautifully cooked - along with all of the trimmings! I’m not always impressed by a roast dinner out, but this was certainly not one to be missed.I can’t wait to come again and try something else from the full menu. Thanks to all the staff at the Wheatacre for such a lovely afternoon!

Had a meal on Friday evening, starters were the best part. Strongly recommend the goats cheese and the mushrooms. Steaks were so overpriced and in my opinion not good enough for the price paid. £27 for a ribeye - ridiculous, I mean I don’t mind paying for good food but that’s entering fillet territory. It was overcooked, which they rectified without question. The triple cooked chips were inedible - everyone left them. I am sure in a previous life they started as a potato, but ended up as a hard, brown almost burnt offering in a heap that we actually thought had been cooked days ago. Heston would be horrified (the king of the triple cooked chip) one of the party had the burger which was great but had no jam or Gherkin......Staff were lovely, and the new girl that started on Friday was a little star !!!!!

We have stayed at the nearby Wheatacre Hall Barns a number of times but never eaten at the White Lion. 'Eat Out to Help Out' was all the incentive we needed to book a table in advance for an evening meal.Menu choice was very good, looked and tasted great - and a sensible option to what can be bland kids menu choice by simply offering smaller portions of the adult meals.Added bonus seeing 4 horses turn up (outside!) to allow their adult riders to enjoy a drink.

Due to the pandemic, we called several days ahead to determine if the restaurant could accommodate us. We were advised that there were only reservations inside but after 7pm which is fair enough. We were advised however that if we arrive at 6pm, we could be accommodated for food sat outside but it was not possible to reserve tables outside. As we had kids, we duly arrived at 5:30pm. First thing we observed were 2 large tables RESERVED outside!!! Having sat down on some free tables outside, we were then duly advised that we could not have/be served food as they were too busy!! Though we did observe a smaller group that arrived after us being offered the food menu!!!! Very disappointed!!

We stayed for a night and had a great time. Jay was excellent and made us feel at home from the start. The food was outstanding especially the pork belly. Great atmosphere and would definitely recommend. A lovely spot and find. Thank you!
