Wellington Arms in Basingstoke and Deane

We just celebrated our wedding at this amazingly beautiful venue! I honestly would not recommend this place enough. All staff were so attentive and couldn’t do enough for you no matter what we needed. From the family meal we had the night before to leaving on Sunday, we couldn’t have asked for more. Jemma was absolutely incredible and I cannot thank her enough for what she done for us all and made our day so perfect! Also one of the bartenders Cris who specialises in cocktails made us a number of amazing shots which were just WOW!

Lovely pub, has a really nice character. Roast dinner was great and very high quality. Staff were very friendly. My favourite pub in the local area.

The car park was practically empty on a Wednesday shortly after 1pm when I arrived, which set a warning as the place is on a busy main road in an upmarket commuter neighbourhood. There were only two other tables occupied in the large and gloomy dining room. The menu was completely unoriginal and uninspiring. My friend ordered chicken Milanese which looked dry and tasteless when it eventually arrived. I ordered steak which was chewy and the French fries were more chips and past their prime if indeed they had ever reached it. Maybe we were there on a off day but I won't be going again for sure.

I have just celebrated my daughter’s wedding at the Wellington Arms and I am absolutely in awe of this place. All the staff, Bar,waiting and hotel were fantastic. They were friendly polite and extremely welcoming. Gemma the wedding host was an absolute legend and I cannot fault one single thing, she is a credit to the company and went above and beyond. Gemma was at my daughters beck and call right from the 7am start to past midnight. The Waterloo suite looked incredible and was done flawlessly. I will add some photos as soon as they are ready. We were a small wedding party and were well looked after. Loved the food. Lovely service. We’d preordered- but instead of coming out and naming the dish they had (hoping it would be claimed by the correct customer) they came and said the names of those who’d ordered it. We paid for our own drinks and this was all managed seamlessly - the bills spot on. Wedding can be stressful- the Wellington Arms did not make any aspect stressful at all. They worked to accommodate dietary requirements. We will be back - often.

Not been here for a few years so keen to try their Sunday lunchtime offerings. Although only just midday, quite a few guests with young children and dogs were already seated (not the dogs, they had their own baskets!) but all well behaved! We ordered a sourdough ancient grains bread with marmite butter to share but on arrival 30 minutes later, the waitress apologised for there being no marmite butter. Also the bread was a bit overdone and hard and no sign of grains, more like a Ciabatta. My partner thought her vegan Wellington roast excellent and so was my roast belly pork but no crackling as advertised. Plenty of well cooked veg with a good selection and the roasties were just right. It's a nice country pub with a decent menu, not a hurried service but that's fine on a leisurely Sunday. Service was fine, seemed to be plenty of staff and a satisfaction check made. Prices not exorbitant, and 10% service charge included.. Toilets perfectly acceptable. Just a couple of minor details stop me giving it the full 5 stars.

A lovely lunch, we were well taken care of by Eva when we dined in the Waterloo suite for mothers day. However I think the management were ambitious to put on more covers using the suite as there were some delays like waiting an hour for starters and the ambience was slughtly lacking leaving us a little bit like the unpopular guests at a wedding in a very plain room. The food however was great, the staff tried hard to accommodate and were attentive and the pre dining organisation was good with the ability to pre order from the menu.

Such miserable, unhelpful staff! Almost like stroppy teenagers (Kevin and Perry come to mind). Wasn't interested in serving us, didn't give us our cutlery between courses, didn't ask how the meal was or if we needed anything else. Just come to the table to take our plates. We had to ask if we could have more drinks. And when our drinks finally arrived, a "Kevin" asked us "do ya want pudding"? For such a beautiful place, the service is not what you'd expect. Food wasn't all that nice either. Had fish and chips, and the fish had so much flour under the batter that it became a white paste. Won't be rushing back

We have visited here many times for lunch and always enjoyed it. This evening we had the opportunity to come for dinner and it was excellent. We shared focaccia and a scotch egg to start and then had the pot pie and pasta - delicious! We were very well looked after from drinks through to dinner and Eva, in particular, looked after us extremely well. Next time we are in the area we are going to try and stay - they were fully booked tonight which is a good sign!

Really lovely spot for any occasion. Very friendly and attentive staff, we love Eva! Delicious food, in particular their Sunday roasts! I'm not that type of person who leaves reviews and comments, but I was encouraged by my friends to leave one. This was our first visit at Wellington Arms. We were extremely impressed with the service and food. The young lady who served us was phenomenal. Service was quick, with a smile. Food was superb and the sirloin is to die for. We will definitely be back again, I think we have a new favourite for our Sunday lunch meetings.

Had a wonderful stay at the hotel fantastic food, warm cosy great atmosphere. Staff were all very welcoming, Eva was a star thank you for making our stay extra special .

We go out for breakfast quite often especially if we have people visiting. We only booked here as our usual places were fully booked, I’m so pleased they were as this has just become our favourite. The service from Eva was superb, very attentive without being intrusive. The food was so good especially the bacon, you can tell everything is freshly prepared. Thank you to Eva and the chefs for a lovely experience, we will be back.

Although I drive by many times, only today I popped in for lunch. The place deserves all the good words. The lunch was delicious, the service impeccable, the restaurant very clean and pet friendly. Eva was our waitress today and she is a lovely person, kind, patient, always smiling. Enjoyed the whole experience and definitely recommend this place for a place to eat.

Lovely location, however service and food doesn’t match. The venue doesn’t know whether it’s a hotel restaurant, bistro or pub. The food is below average for quality and cost therefore not good value compared with alternative local establishments.

Visited with family and 2 of the dishes were awful Monkfish mornay had been under the grill for too Long and was scorched and dry ie some parts burned and no sauce and just three bites of overcooked fish The flat iron steak was over cooked and so tough it eventually ended up in the dog. On our journey home, it was so refreshing to be greeted with a warm welcome from the staff of which there were many and not be turned away as we didn’t have a booking! It was a Monday night and very early evening and they were preparing for many a Christmas party due in. The food was lovely and the atmosphere soon buzzing. A lovely log burner was glowing away in an already nice and warm restaurant. We could have stayed there longer had we not needed to get on the road home. Definitely somewhere we will be returning to soon and definitely recommend!

5 Lovely accommodation and fabulous staff that go above and beyond to make your stay the best it can be . Fantastic accommodation, the most comfortable beds, coffee machines in room and dog lovers paradise- dog beds - dog bowls in certain dog rooms !! The breakfasts are awesome lovely selection of both hot and cold . Chefs don’t get a mention but are amazing ! I booked a pre-xmas family festive lunch for 7 of us. Eva was our waitress, and could not do enough to make the experience a great one. Xmas crackers were on the table when we arrived, and the staff were all very friendly, and the food excellent. 3 of our party went for the soup, which was good. Five had the Turkey dinner, while two tried the Venison and the Beef Bourguignon. 3 enjoyed the choux bun and I had the Xmas pudding. A complimentary bottle of prosecco was very much appreciated, as we'd booked the table and paid a deposit mid October. Mini mince pies and complimentary coffees were also much appreciated. A special thank you to Eva, for making our family lunch so enjoyable. Thanks again!!

Winner of our worst lunch of 2023 award. Three of us had the set menu and one the a'la carte. The venison pie was fine (the a'la carte). The set menu was dire. Two had pork tenderloin - so tough as to be inedible, even after we asked for steak knives. The steak was tough, overcooked and cold. No vegetables came with the dishes so we had to use the a'la carte menu for those. Ordered potatoes and carrots, got cabbage in a heavy cheese sauce with bacon on top and some sort of deep fried mashed potato block. Service was pleasant but slow and confused.
