Stopped of here on a Sunday afternoon..went to Burger King and ordered two chicken royale meals . Seemed to be self service only using the machine . When the meals arrived we noticed the chips had spilled out into the paper bag for carrying., the Burger buns were definitely not fresh or had been sitting out for some time ..this restaurant is also more expensive than other Burger kings as you pay for the convenience but certainly not my favourite

Toilets were clean which was surprising considering the atrocious weather at the time. Only bought a sandwich and drink for lunch at usual high prices. My only complaint really regards the parking area for caravans and motorhomes. Ridiculous area that was essentially a free for all and you could easily get blocked in for a period of time. Worst caravan parking area I’ve been to yet. In the end we came back out and parked in the HGV area.

Would just like to state before going into our review please mind the pothole upon entering!!!Abington aka LADington (inside joke with the Service Station Nation team) is our definitive favourite services, fantastic customer services with good quality and range of options made available to you, few sinks not working in toilets but compared to some services we've been to not the biggest issue and is to be expected, also we do feel its important to point out that prices can be quite high but it's a services and you know what your going into and you'll find the same with any of the Great British services up and down the motorway (a gripe you learn to deal with lol) but anyway not to digress as we rate based upon quality, cleanliness and service and Abington ticks all of those boxes.

19.00hrs visit on Friday in the bad weather conditions, I failed to see one of the large potholes on the entry road to the car park. Just had the bill for £300 for a new tire to replace the existing one with a shredded side wall and repair to a damaged alloy wheel. Welcome Break, expensive break.

Our usual stop for food on our way up Scotland. The service staff all wore masks and gloves and there was hand sanitizers readily available. We were even offered a mask, but due to Asthma we declined. The Burger King staff were brilliant and made sure everyone stayed apart and all contactless ordering with machine cleaned after every customer. The burger was very tasty and the chips piping hot. A little expensive, but that’s motorway services for you.

I had a break there on my way back from holidays, to have lunch. The place is tidy, but the choice of food is limited (as ever on the motorway anyway). What really made me angry was to receive a parking charge notice of £60 a few weeks after for breaching the 2h parking limit by 20 min, when I never saw any mention of it. If there are any signs, they are not visible, and the restaurants should warn about this.Overall, not happy from the place.

I've got to admit, these services were fairly unique when compared to others I have stopped at. Pinpointed in a scenic area with great views of the Scottish landscape, the services were clean, modern and boasted various businesses. My colleague and I visited on both southbound and northbound journeys. We used the toilet facilities on both occasions (clean) and also purchased 'Krispy Kreme Donuts' and 'Starbucks Coffees'. No issues with anything.Point to note - Starbucks offer a discount with DDS cards for military personnel.

Popped in for something to eat after a long day. Very convenient being beside the Days Inn where we were staying. There are various food/drink options. We opted for the noodle bar and were happy enough with our choice. Were able to taste the different toppings prior to choosing with was a big help. Food was tasty though could have been hotter and being able to add a drink for £1 was handy. Also used WH Smiths the following morning to pick up some cans of coke. Being Smiths it was ridiculously over-priced....Service area as a whole seemed clean and well maintained and all stuff we interacted with were friendly and polite.

No it doesn't as we have drunk it in many places for years. Another customer agreed our coffee was awful. They eventually gave us a new drink,,,,, not much better. Our advice is don't go to Starbucks here.

Could not believe lack of service in Starbucks. Shop fairly empty-girl on till polite-ordered and paid for 1 cake and 2 coffees. Had to then work our way through around 20 customers crowding around at the end of the counter. Found the only cleared table-( loads of empty dirty tables. ) Sat down to realise the crowd were waiting for orders. We waited 15 minutes for 2 black coffees in a professional coffee house! All customers disgruntled and totally confused at the system and delay. A family nearby waited around 15 to 20 minutes for 3 toasties and cold drinks which were served bit by bit-(Looks like only 1 toaster in a shop selling toasties as one of the few hot foods??!!) 4 staff on duty that we saw. No apologies, no hurrying- it all seemed normal service to them. Some of the tables were cleared while we were there but not in any rush. As one lady stated aloud " completely bizarre, never seen anything like it". Travellers don't come in for hassle and a stressful wait in a poor atmosphere.Annandale Services next time- much better!!

A warning to tired travellers. My brother in law was returning to Edinburgh after a hectic holiday in the USA and suffering with jet lag. He always stops at the Abington services for a toilet break and a coffee and has never noticed any warning about time limits on parking. On his latest journey he was so tired and fell asleep in his car. Ten days later he got a parking fine through the post because he had outstayed his welcome by being in the car park for two hours and twenty minutes. The fine is charged at £100.

Just the same as most service stations, the usual Berger places, small snack shops and a fish and chip counter. It’s does have a coffee take away. Most people would use it like us, for a quick toilet btreak and intake of some food / coffee. Prices generally higher and nothing much different from any other service station. Travelling to Scotland on a very windy and wet day we decided to stop for a break at these services. Food choices were burgers or fish and chips. There’s a Starbucks but the smallest coffee is as big as a bucket the muffins were tasteless and so hard they were probably stale. The system for getting served is definitely not fast we only had two coffees and two muffins which took nearly twenty minutes to serve. For this it cost just short of £11.00 which is ridiculous. When service stations first opened it was always accepted that prices should be higher because they weren’t easy to staff but in this day and age staff have transport and the service areas aren’t that inaccessible like they were originally. Travelling this route again we would give these services a miss there are plenty of places not far from the motorway that offer better food and more competitive prices. There is also a WH Smith shop where a single bottle of water cost at least £1.80 everything seems to be dearer in this shop crisps sweets and chocolate are all sold at inflated prices.

Food at Harry Ramsden was OK although they got one order wrong and they weren’t busy by any means. Chopstix food was lukewarm at best and very hard to eat noodles from a cardboard box with a flimsy plastic fork. Burger King is Burger King - not much more to say, food as expected. I reviewed this establishment a few years ago and I rated it as really poor, however this was before the refurbishment where they brought in some some big brands to improve the quality and service (Harry Ramsdens, Starbucks etc). Then almost overnight the quality and service really improved. I am sad to say that this lasted only for about six months, then the standards started dropping again (food quality and service). Now almost two years or more later it did not surprise me that on our latest visit Burger King could not offer burgers as the machine was broken. The chips in Ramsdens are clearly reheated and fish is not to the same standard as it once was. Overall overpriced and under delivers.

Stopped here to grab some food on the way back down south following a 2 week holiday in Scotland. The food was in line with what you'd expect from a Burger King chain, but the service was way off the mark.We were served by a young blonde guy - and he was sullen, rude and unhelpful. He tutted at me as I took a few seconds to consider my drink choice. Didn't smile at us once. Drummed his fingers whilst I asked my son whether he wanted a burger with or without cheese. Then got our order wrong, which when I pointed it out to him told me that wasn't what I had ordered - despite the fact that I recited my request word-for-word from the menu above his head. When I pointed to the meal I had ordered and said that's the one I requested, he said 'no you didn't', turned his back on me and walked away. I didn't have he energy to argue, particularly as we'd waited 10 mins for the food in the first place. However management at this centre should take a long hard look at their staff - I am sure there are plenty of other individuals in the team who could provide a more pleasant experience for customers.

We stopped here to use the toilet and have some lunch on May 9th 2016 during our journey from Kirkcaldy to Penrith. The gents toilets were not very clean at all. The urinals' drains were coated in rust, and the floor was rather wet. A generous amount of basins were provided in the handwashing area but the soap dispenser was empty and the tapwater was boiling hot (there is no sign warning of the heat). Hand dryer was fantastic (Dyson Airblade Vs are my personal favourite :D).Ordered a 'bacon double cheeseburger' from Burger King and it tasted fantastic, but had to wait a good twenty minutes at the counter. Ate it on one of the outdoor picnic benches (it happened to be one of the hottest days of 2016 so it was pleasant) which was chipped and scruffy. The indoor foodcourt was absolutely filthy, with previous customers' waste everywhere. Couldn't see any staff cleaning tables! There was also a lot of wasps coming in through the door, and nobody made an effort to swat them (a real risk for someone with wasp allergies)Overall, I am pretty impressed with Abington (apart from the cleanliness!), and have scheduled another stop here in May because of the convenient location.

Was initially only popping in for a drink to keep us going but thought might as well get a bite to eat then stick on the road. Wished we had never bothered. Went to order a pizza from the Papa John's. Had to tell the staff member there was wasps on the donuts at the counter. His solution was just to simply waft it away. I told him it had on at least 4 of the donuts nut was ignored. Decided against the pizza especially after being told it would be 20 minutes. My other half had chips and fish from Harry Ramsden. He sat down to wait as told by the staff. To be fair these were nice but because nobody called out the order or brought it out he spotted it on the side 15 minutes later getting cold.Meanwhile I waited 15 minutes to be served at the Burger King. Then had to wait another 10 minutes for an overpriced under cooked tasteless chicken burger. Only saving grace was the fries which were nice but the size of the portion would have been polished off in two minutes by my two year old nephew. To finish of the toilets were filthy, and the grocery store severely over priced (£3 for a bag of sweets).Think we'll die of thirst next time.....

We called in here on our way back from a weekend down South with my wheelchair bound mum - and wished we had kept driving. We opted to order fish and chips at the Harry Ramsden's and were told there would be a 10 minute wait. That's OK but we were expected to sit and wait and listen for someone shouting out our order - an impossible task given the noise levels in the dreadful seating area and we were in the closest seat - only about five yards away. We had to just keep an eye out for our order through the throng of others standing in front of us doing the same - tricky given that everyone was basically having fish and chips. The place must just be badly deigned for noise because it wasn't that busy but you could not hear yourself think. The food was passable. Accessibility was OK apart from the disabled bays being further away than the electric bays and there being more of them. We parked in an electric bay - so there!

Wir hatten dort am 09.08.2016 zu Mittag gegessen. Wir hatten beide ein Fish and Chips Meal inklusive Getränk für etwa 9 Pfund.Uns schmeckte das Fish and Chips sehr gut. Gerne wieder.

This place needs a refurbished. Crowded dark and the worst for wear . had a Burger King meal...the burger was not enjoyable but the tea was good. toilet facilities clean but worn out. Stick to the outside tables.

First: why are electric charging units more important to have closer to the services than the disabled bays which are now moved over the road? Interesting decision to make disabled people have to walk further in pain and hey, across the oncoming traffic. Good to know you've sorted out your priorities! Then, in this day and age of pleading with people to eat healthily, what do we find after the refurb: a chip shop, a burger bar, a pizza stop and doughnut stall. Someone missed the memo here! I was looking for a baked potato, salad and something nice (& light) to eat when I am sitting in the car for hours..........not to be. Not only that, but having reluctantly purchased some (vile) hot food we took it to the eating area and found not one single table cleared (around 1.30pm on 7 May). I had to clear a table and then clean the chairs - yuck, yuck and yuck again. We won't be stopping here again. This place should be ashamed to masquerade as a service station - its just a junk food dump. I am rarely this blunt, but this place was awful.

These services are about 20-30 minutes from Glasgow. We avoid many services if they are too big, the toilets just become too dirty the busier they are. Always feed the Rooks and Sparrows in the carpark. Once a horrible cleaning lady with a Scottish accent yelled at us and said the birds were responsible for all the mess and rubbish. Sorry, but it is the people, not the birds who are throwing their rubbish out the window! Burger King always busy, but you are served quickly. Don't know how they put up with rude people who talk to them like rubbish! Manners cost nothing. Last time we were there, we went for breakfast at Harry Ramsdens, not only does fish and chips, but greasy breakfasts. The bacon, sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes were all sitting next to each other and the lady serving actually used the same tongs to pick up bacon and the mushrooms, that meant I couldn't have any breakfast. As a vegetarian, I do not want meat juice over my vegies. However, staff were friendly and nice. Dunkin Donuts right next to them also. This sevices also has a motel, quite reasonably priced when we enquired.

Choice of Harry Ramsdens, Starbucks, Papa Johns and Burger king for our breakfast. Slightly pricey for the Harry Ramsdens breakfast but freshly cooked and with a smile. Motorway Services do get a bad reputation but you can find far worse than this one.

Stopped in here on the way to Dumfries. These places do get a bad wrap and often justifiably. Have to say on this occasion pleasantly surprised.Went in for breakfast and who knew that Harry ramsdens did breakfast? It was actually ok and thought a bit expensive I've had much worse elsewhere. Roll was soft and the food was hot and the coffee ok.Okay so not gourmet and not the savoy, but decent enough.

Stopped here for a short break for a cup of tea and a snack on our way home you have a choice of Harry Ramsdons,Papa Johns,Burger King,& Starbucks we opted to get tea and a snack from Burger King it was fine and went to the seating area there were plenty of empty tables as it wasn't very busy but even though they were empty the tables were far from clean in fact the whole place had an air of uncleanliness we did manage to find an almost clean table but I wouldn't say it was the best experience and had it been a bit warmer we would have sat outside. It really doesn't take 5minutes to spray and wipe a table and brush the floor .Service stations are always going to get people stopping regardless of the condition but surely Welcome Break you should take a bit more pride in your product and make it a more enjoyable experience for the visiting public

Abington is a small Service Station just off the M74 at J13 (with A702 to Edinburgh or the Clyde Valley Tourist Route). The building has limited public areas, but covers all the main requirements - clean toilets, small shop, (very) small games area and choice of fast food outlets (Burger King, Starbucks, Harry Ramsdens, Papa Johns/Dunkin Donuts). Seating is within Starbucks, or the communal area beside Papa Johns and Harry Ramsdens. There was still seats available at lunchtime on a midweek, but no-one tidying up the trays that had not been self-cleared.Not one to make a detour for, but not one to avoid either - you get exactly what you would expect, fast food and facilities.

Arrived, car park full of potholes, went inside. Place was stinking of the toilets throughout the building. Put me right off having something to eat. If you're up that way find a local hostelry instead of the services

Only can describe this as the fawlty towers of motorway services!! Food bland and cold, waitress straight out of a Carry on Film. Eating area filthy with food all over the floor and tables desperate for a clean!!! Eat in many Harry Ramsden outlets around the country and this one is an embarrassment to the brand!!!

Ok. It's a service area. But come on Welcome Break. The standard of cleanliness in the seated eating area is truly appalling. We visited on a trip from Carlisle to Glasgow and picked up a Burger King meal which was fine. We went to the eating area alongside Harry Ramsden's and even though it was empty could not find one clean table. Discarded meals with dried food on the plates indicating they had been there for some time. Even empty tables were smeared with dried food, crumbs and spilt liquid. We found one semi clean table and sat down but quickly got up and left to eat in the car. The floor was a disgrace, covered in food and discarded wrappers. 3 members of staff at Ramsden's just looked on bored. Surely they could see the state of the spot and summonsed a cleaner. Their acceptance of such a hygiene risk was a disgrace. As I say, I don't expect much from a service area. But this place is an utter hovel!

Back again at these services. And decided to give Harry Ramsden's a try as I like my fish and chips. The very nice lady on the till advised me to go for the larger fish, as it came with a drink, a side order and would cost me less. Thank you. Food cooked fresh and to order, some other services should take note. Great fish & chips as well.

Am very surprised that Harry Ramsdens has not been mentioned on these reviews.Could not find their reference to this service area. However we found service area very pleasant and hope that signage is improved as the car parking is confusing.Great place to stop over.

Plenty of car park spaces, fuel and toilets plus good food and cheap gifts from the shop. I stopped here at around 21:00 hours and again a few days later at around 08:00 hours and both times the toilets were very clean, staff looked as if they were genuinely pleased to serve me and I had food and brought items from the shop. Considering this is a Motorway stop I never felt as if they were charging normal motorway prices - I felt it was extremely good value for food, goods and petrol and there is a good choice of food. I will definitely use this Welcome Break again!

Stopped here on way down to England for a quick break, as we often do. It's convenient for both North and Southbound traffic just off the M74. The food is what you would expect from the fast food outlets, Burger King, Harry Ramsdens, Starbucks and Papa John's. The pricing is as you would expect from motorway service area. Overall functional, convenient, if a bit basic.

If you on route to either Edinburgh or Glasgow this rest area is well located. Wether you just want a coffee or something to eat its a good spot. Usual motorway pricing structure.

We have used this services on many occasions and have always foudn the facilities to be clean and fresh and the staff to be friendly and helpful. The food at all outlets has always been first class until our last visit. We ordered our meals at the Harry Ramsdens counter and to be quite frank, the female member of staff was rude and unconcerend. Furthermore she had absolutely no idea what they had available either. TO make matters worse, I really cannot abide seeing staff members with long hair in a food environment with it in a ponytail which is not secured by a hair net.We waited for our meals and when they arrived, my order was burnt. I tried to eat the meal but had to return it to the counter. It was prefectly obvious that the battered sausages were reheated. WHen I spoke to the staff member she wandered off to get a supervisor who came and gave me a refund. There was absolutely no mention of cooking me something else so I ended up going to Burger King instead.I was very disappointed with my visit. I will try the facility once again, but probably not that food outlet.
