Waxy O'Connor's in Glasgow City

This place is extra cool! It’s a maze and it’s super fun to explore and the visuals are amazing. We had a pint and two half pints, with two desserts and we liked it all. The girls singing truly had great voices. We recommend visiting it if you pass by!

Incredible atmosphere unmatched in any location I’ve been to in Glasgow. Felt very private while also being so open and lively. Great place to have a drink and chat with friends. Only issues I’ve had is that the staff can sometimes be a bit inattentive and taking a good while to get your drinks ready

Fun and quirky interior design, however that does not change the quality of the drinks. Felt the prices in here for not just Guinness but also spirit+mixer drinks were very extortionate. Guinness itself did not have the quality to justify the price that was charged. Will not be back.

Server added service charge to our drinks we collected at the bar without us even knowing. Unfortunately it is isn't - but this should almost certainly be against the law. This pub should be boycotted, along with Shilling Brewing Co. who I've heard do the exact same.

So, this is a great discovery! A very good bar with several different atmospheres, incredible and unique decor, the concerts in the evening are very nice, with several counters never waiting to be served a drink, clean overall and a great atmosphere!

Just up in Glasgow for the day and nipped in for a couple of drinks. Loved it! 😁😁😁

It is a super cool place. So many levels. It is very popular. Expect a bar and not a restaurant so your expectations are right. Super hard to try to get food. No same day reservations for groups. Maybe better on weekdays. Definitely a party weekend location. We came for group dinner and left after a few drinks and ate at take away street shops.

Went here on Saturday evening at around 7:00 pm. One of the bouncers working the door on the main street entrance refused my wife and I entry with the usual statement. "The bar is full come-back in an hour." My wife is Asian and she thought that was the reason for our refusal. I thought he was just on a power trip. So, we decided to walk around to the back of the bar and try to get in that way. The bouncers working those doors were a much more friendly bunch they said hello and enjoy, as we walked straight into the bar. There was a good crowd inside, but in no way was it full. The staff inside the bar were nice and quick at serving drinks. We stayed until 930pm, hoping for some live music on St Patrick's Day Eve, but no, just rugby on tv.

Amazing live music band, a beautiful interior. On a weekday during the day, it's the perfect quiet place to relax with a pint and talk. On a weekend night it's the loudest bar on the street with great music and great craic. Bar lines are done often enough. One issue is locating the bathrooms. The place is a maze EDIT: Just found out the food is amazing too, well done Waxy's!

I visited this pub on my trip to Glasgow. One of the best pubs I’ve been. It was a plus that was St. Patrick’s day. I will definitely come back. Totally recommended.

Been there a couple of times now and it's genuinely the nicest looking pub I've ever been in. Fair selection of drinks too. Let down by policies: - automatic 5% service charge, what is this, America? Also, barman used that as an excuse for my £6 pint costing £6.72, something wrong there - despite service charge, you have to collect your food from the kitchen with no indication of when it's ready. We were waiting for a while outside the kitchen after their suggested time. What's the point in the service charge?

Busy pub on many levels, next to the station. Plenty seating, always a great atmosphere and often with live music.

Popped in for drinks and live band playing. I absolutely LOVED this place and definitely would go back

We didn't have food. Unique pub, so many little areas to sit, gave food or drinks beautiful inside, love it.

Me and my friend ( both female and 25) refused entry. “Here we go”, as we approached the door and we were not drunk. Fair enough we had our Celtic scarves on from earlier from the match, but would have taken them off it was such an issue. I did innocently ask “Is this not an Irish bar?” to which I got a bald, over 50 bouncer shouting down the street at me, “Nah we’re a Northern Irish bar” and trying to get a rise out of us. Would not recommend. So rude and well definitely not Irish.

Was in to watch the rugby. Busy but not crowded. Place is a maze if you're a first time visitor! Food was decent. Always think they could do with more bar staff when busy. One of the growing places that automatically adds on a service charge to everything! Even if you buy 1 drink at the bar, not just food. Card only payments also, no cash.

Only stayed for one drink as it was card only and it was mostly cash I had on me and therfore I had to use my bank card and use money in my account that I wasn't planning to use.

Nice pub and friendly staff, but INSANELY EXPENSIVE. £12 for a pint of IPA and a bottle of Corona... absolutely crazy!

We dropped into the Waxy O'Connor because it was mentioned by a friend, we weren't disappointed, the food and service couldn't have been better also both young ladies we're very helpful about a beverage we we're trying to find, with their help yes you've guessed right they managed to find we're it was and phoned them to let them know we we're on our way. We had a private room for a family doo. It was excellent, clean, and great space staff service was top class.

Lots of different areas, likeable place with good range of drinks. Service can be slow, also they add a £1 tip so quite expensive.

Visited 12/01/2024 for a quick drink. Please be aware the disabled toilet is 2 flights stairs up with NO lift/elevator access..... Surely in this day and age there has to be easier access? We entered from West George St and once we got our beverages from the pleasant enough guy behind the bar (reasonably priced too) we chose a table and I asked said guy for the disabled toilet to be told that it's upstairs??? On my return I gave the said guy behind bar benefit of doubt that he misheard me, and asked if there was a easier access facility to be directed to but if I wanted to speak to manager. I declined... P.S. this establishment is cash free, direct/credit card only. Never had food. Prices, service and surroundings pleasant enough. Update: received answer to my review 3 days after posting. The manager replied that there is most definitely a lift to all floors for the purposes of moving people with mobility issues to any floor. The young barman (had a beard) on duty that day at ground floor bar certainly was not aware of any lift and didn't inform me of it.

Called in here as it's quite close to Queen Street. Cool place with friendly staff, it's a bit of a maze but adds to the charm. For food I went with a bacon cheeseburger and chips which cost £13. For the price I was a bit disappointed to be honest, you can get a properly good burger for that price in many places but this was distinctly average.

Lots of character, did get lost ( wasn't too drunk) on 3 levels so make sure you remember where you were before going to the toilets...

Really unusual setting and the steps and balconies made it look almost like a scene from Harry potter. Worth a visit

Had a great lunch on Thursday, not much just a cheese toastie, but omg it was delicious, don't know what relish was in it but it hit the mark. Only issue we had was our drink was spilt by the waiter, accidents happen, but he never replaced the drink, which in my mind he should of. Didn't put us off as we returned that evening. Lovely pub, and very central for visitors.

Fun little maze of a pub with multiple levels and multiple small bars. If the worst thing I can say about it is that it was too busy and lively then that's not really a complaint. A ton of fun should be giving another visit as soon as I can.

If nothing else is available, this is an ok choice - because of its location it is just too busy and not very clean as a result. Despite looking like a maze it's a rather impersonal place. Nice prosecco though 👍

Arrived in Waxys at 3.30pm. Knew it would be busy but had to wait for 20 minutes to get served. Wasn't the barmaid's fault as she was on her own behind the bar. To add insult to injury after another lengthy wait to order food was told that they had to close the kitchen due to backlog of meals already ordered! No bar snacks available either . Such a disappointing experience in Waxys that is our go to place in town. Left to go elsewhere as we were starving after shopping. Will think twice next time.

Didn't eat here so can't rate that. Took friends on a busy Saturday night for their first visit. They were amazed by the overall size of the place and by the number of bars on a variety of levels. Great place to explore and enjoy.

Such a fun pub experience in Glasgow. There are so many hidden rooms and the interiors are incredible, including trees, stained glass, wooden staircases and a small balcony where the live music is played from. The drink prices are reasonable and the selections are great. There are multiple bars throughout the pub so the queues are never too long. Phone signal is a no go and you may get lost but that’s part of the fun.

Great for a drink and spot on atmosphere. The architecture is something to be admired.. The urinals are something different too!

Staff and food amazing. Was there for my granddaughter's graduation. Very attentive from the minute we went in till we came out. We had 2 courses, very hard to choose as too many choices. Prices were fantastic especially it's location, could see all the decorations at George Square. Fantastic day.

This place is handy if your coming or waiting on a train, clean and tidy pub, plenty rooms on different levels, so if your meeting someone make sure you tell them what part you're in 😄, another pub that doesn't take cash !

Pints can be expensive at £6 odds a pint, but there's a lot on tap to choose from and everywhere seems to be in the same boat with regards to price. Friendly staff, but can sometimes take a while to get served. The place itself is nicely done but can be like a maze or Hogwarts with staircases going here, there and everywhere!

Multi quirky level pub in an old tradition (looks like a scene out of Hogwarts setting, there is a stage so they have live entertainment some nights, nice atmosphere prices seem ok for a large city.

Absolutely farcical! Couldn’t get served at any bar. Finally got the attention of 1 barman, tried to order & he walked away from us! Pretty filthy too - my coat was marked with grease (?) from the walls. There are plenty of places in Glasgow to spend my money so won’t be returning here.

Sometimes hard to get served n place is like a warren n loses any atmosphere.

Nice Irish pub with a good choice of beers on tap. Live music being played. Only minus for me is that because of all the stairs (which are obviously also a unique feature), the typical Irish pub atmosphere doesn’t come up. Edit: Changed it from 4 to 5 stars as I think 4 stars is a bit unfair, considering that stairs or not is really personal preference! :)

An Irish bar that cannot give you an Irish coffee, also bar staff not very helpful. Bar man did not acknowledge me while I stood waiting to be served while he had a chat, don't mind him having a chat but his priority was chatting and not serving customers.
