Watsons Bistro in Conwy

Delighted to see a modern brasserie specialising in seafood right in the centre tre of Conwy. These guys really know how to cook - great homemade tartare with the whitebait, perfectly firm green beans and melt-in-the-mouth garlic potatoes with the monkfish. Service was also excellent, and prices very reasonable for this level of quality.

Visited Conwy last week and booked a meal here because we came last year and had a couple of decent meals. Received our booking confirmation by text straight away. Job done. Turned up at the appointed time and the restaurant was shut! Tried to contact them no response. If you have my details to send me a confirmation you could have contacted me to say you were shut (for whatever reason). Walked past it the following day (Thursday) and it was shut again. Don't know what happening but talking to some locals it has changed hands from last year.

The place was very quiet and lacked atmosphere..........mainly because it has closed down but you still accepted my booking!!

We visited Watson's Conwy with friends. The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. Watson's had been recommended to me by friends who had visited recently. We were given several restaurants to try, Watson's was by far the best!

There used to be an Early Bird Menu here which was excellent value for three courses but this is now sadly withdrawn. Did not know that when we telephoned and booked a table. Service slightly off and food okay but not memorable. Disappointed.

No complaint with the food and service was good; Scallops were amazing, goats cheese was OK. Beef medallions were nice as was the duck. If I’m being picky the chips were under done. 4 stars overall, just expect that little bit extra from a Bistro.

I would recommend the place as the food was really nice and fresh. The staff were lovely and very friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxing so if you want to have a nice time and good food I am saying yes to this place. Thanks to the staff and the chef.

We were served quickly, and our food came at the right pace. Nice to get the bread and dipping oil at the beginning. We both enjoyed our food and the amount was just right- we could eat it all! My glass of wine was very good too. We'll defintely be back.

For us, a lovely meal is a combination of good food, good surroundings, service and atmosphere. The food was ok, but the bistro needs updating, and the atmosphere felt more like a cafe than a bistro. The coffee machine had broken too, but there was no offer of providing an alternative, not even an instant coffee or tea. Expensive meal taking everything into consideration.

We had a super evening at Watsons. The service was brilliant. The food was outstanding.

The food was decent, a smidge pricey, but I gather that to be the standard for inner Conwy. Service was quite slow. I found the food to be decent, but had heard comments that the chef has recently changed

Booked in while on holiday in Conwy. We enjoyed our meal very much and found the atmosphere great for a quiet, unrushed meal for two.

We were expecting very good food and service after seeing so many nice reviews. The meal was disappointing. Starters not seasoned enough (we had the aubergine and prawn cocktails which was a bit better). The mains definitely shouldn't cost that much. Lamb was nearly £30 and portion was like for a kid. Nothing special. At that price we were expecting a wow. The beef was definitely better but still very small portion and dry inside. The only good thing was the sauce, which again didn't save the whole meal. Paid £3 for a coke and it was not even half a pint. Service was average. Nice but sometimes they came to the table twice just to serve one item. Overall, would definitely not recommend. Too expensive for the quality and quantity. Also, the menu on their Google was the old one, where the lamb was £15 (which it should be). So be careful, go to their website to see the updated menu where a lot of dishes are not there anymore and all of them almost double.

the Bistro was a lucky find on the last day of our break in Conwy, a real gem , food was excellent and couldn't fault the service. My Beef blade was outstanding and Alison's salmon was spot on.

Slightly bizarre place. The friendliest of staff with the tastiest of dishes on the menu. Food is excellent, although there is no vegetarian or vegan option on the main menu. This place could really do with some investment - there is massive potential in the patio area but it has a tacky feel with a vertical fake grass wall, a windmill and some other oddities. It’s also not dog friendly (dogs outside only is not dog friendly). Good wine list at affordable price and didn’t feel ripped off by prices of selection. Summary- We would go back and we would recommend.

We had the salmon and filet medallions. And lemon roulade for dessert. Everything was delicious and superbly presented. The wine and spirit list is poor so I went with a Peroni and my spouse with a prosecco.

A la carte restaurant food average not great. Service average. Staff were not as expected didnt like it when we complained. Expensive for what was on offer. We werent impressed. Dont waste your money. We wouldnt return.

The service was good, the food depended on what order. My belly pork was not crisp enough, my partners beef needed more veg. The beef stroganoff was very sparse.

Beautiful meal. We visit regularly and always enjoy the food. I am vegetarian and there is always something nice available for me. Goats cheese balsamic mandarin and strawberries as a starter , home made bread and oil dip, and a beautiful aubergine stuffed with vegetables and ratatouille. It was a lovely meal. We know we will always have great quality food by an amazing chef. Lovely lady in charge. Thank you.

Would love to write a review but didn't get the opportunity. Booked a table through Open Table for 7pm on 21st June. Received confirmation by txt and email. Got to the restaurant to find it all closed up. Then received an email from Open Table saying they were sorry we had cancelled the reservation!!!

We always eat here whenever we come to Conwy. Food always excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Tucked away just round the corner from our holiday cottage which was extremely handy.The food was wonderful and so was the service.The prices were very reasonable for what we got which was the early bird meal .Would highly recommend the Bistro as the staff were most accommodating great night thank you 🙏

Greeted and seated straight away but then it seemed we were forgotten and eventually had to ask for a drink after 15 minutes. Food was nicely presented and tasty. After the plates were cleared we seemed to be forgotten again and had to find someone to get the bill. After paying, no change was bought back to us, we were eventually asked if we were OK and did we need a receipt? To which we replied well some change would be good!! It wasn't particularly busy. Disappointing, and wouldn't return 😕

There is nothing wrong with the food. But it's not what the reviews say. But we went based on reviews, I wished we hadn't. It's expensive for what it is, it's not a lovely experience, especially because you can be treated to a good feast in a much better ambience for a similar price or less. Sorry would never recommend it.

Food is excellent. This was return visit whilst on holiday. Just as good as 2 years ago, and it was the only place we rebooked for a meal out at the end of our stay.

On the basis of very good reviews I booked a table for us for 31st May through Open Table. It was subsequently cancelled with no explanation. Checking the website suggested that they were closing for an extended period due to staff issues. We went past tonight (1st June) to find that they had been open. Not a great way to treat customers.

Table was infested with little red bugs. Waiter spilt a glass of wine on my brother. Food was good though. I ordered the lamb rump and I would recommend it.

Even though we were 10 minutes late the staff were really accommodating. We had a table near the patio doors which were opened because we ladies of an age were a bit warm. The other diners near us were sympathetic and chatty and the atmosphere was very cordial and inclusive. Service was attentive but not fussy, the food was lovely and the early bird menu is excellent value. The only downside was I was too full to try the lemon roulade!

Three of us for an early evening meal - friendly staff and prompt service of well cooked and well presented meals. We have been to Watsons several times and have always been happy with the food and service - which means we recommend it - & will go again!

Very interesting menu with plenty of choice. Dishes beautifully presented and well balanced. Service friendly and quietly unfussy. Early Bird menu is excellent value. Look forward to eating there again.

After a day of visiting castles, we had a dinner at Watson’s Bistro and had a wonderful meal. They have a great selection of wines by the bottle or the glass at what I thought were very reasonable prices. My haddock dinner was cooked perfectly and was accompanied by a variety of similarly well-cooked vegetables and mashed potatoes. My wife’s prawn and grilled vegetables in a garlic sauce was delicious. The bread and ginger garlic dipping oil was a nice bonus.

Nice cosy restaurant. Food is cooked to order. Good menu choices. Relaxed atmosphere.

The staff is great (except the hostess), the location is right. The menu looks descent, but what you get is boring for that price. (100,- pounds total for 2 persons, incl starters and 2 drinks). Just ask for gravy, pepper, salt, vinegar and all condiments and you are fine. And please take chairs with you, sitting on the is a experience asswell.

Found to be expensive for what you get pint of beer peroni in bottles £8.60 food was flavoursome but very little of it, had to get food after, good staff but I'm not paying the mortgage. Won't go again its for people with more money than sense.

I took my friend here for her 40th birthday & we loved it! The food was delicious & the ambience was lovely & welcoming. Everything was fresh & homemade. We will be going back. Thank you for a lovely evening :)

Had Christmas meal with work colleagues on Saturday. We had to choose in advance as we were a party of 10. Our food was nice, I had the goats cheese and beetroot salad starter which was good. Followed by the turkey, which was nicely cooked. Staff were friendly, the restaurant was busy but we didn't have to wait for service. We enjoyed the evening, thank you 😊. Went again April 2023- I think the menu hasn't changed. They were closed for a couple of months, I think it could do with updating. They offer early bird menu on weekdays, my goats cheese starter had no beetroot, they'd run out but this wasn't explained, I was just served it with strawberries instead. My pork belly was fine.

We had our last meal in Wales here. It was delicious, my salmon was wonderful. The service was excellent, the staff very friendly and attentive. We were so happy to find this gem.

Food was delicious and service was good but a table of 4 customers were seated right next to us in the restaurant that was otherwise empty. Their conversation overwhelmed our quiet, romantic dinner so that we left as soon as we finished our meal. Wasn't the other tables fault but it would have been good for the customers to be spaced out more.

This place is simply superb! Tucked away off the main stretch so not one you'd just walk past and wander in to. The food is right up there with the best I've ever had. The service impeccable and the feel of the place is lovely. If you're ever in Conwy and can book this place in advance I'd urge you to. You will not regret it!

My lamb was excellent. However hubby thought the beef was bit on the dry side. Staff were excellent. Very attentive and polite. Background music was good but overall when sat in the side area there is a lack of atmosphere. Overall a great little restaurant. Recommended to try it out.

This was the best meal we have had this side of the lockdown. Food, superb, service, excellent and overall experience was great. Not too expensive, but certainly better value than elsewhere in Conwy. We will certainly return next time we are in the area.

We went here per the recommendation of our bed & breakfast nearby and were sure glad we did! This was in August 2022. Service: fast and friendly. Food: We got two courses (31.25 pounds at the early bird rate) and tried the salmon, chicken, cheese cake, and sticky toffee pudding. All of these dishes were super yummy, but the pudding might have been our favorite.

Bistro has a warm and cozy atmosphere - comfortable tables well spaced. Relatively small menu (hooray!). Wine list not extensive, but well chosen and good value. Charming, friendly service. Early bird supper very reasonable

Find this hidden venue and I don't think you'd be disappointed. The food is very good but the restaurant was very quiet. I recommend the goulash. Although quiet for a Friday night, I'd put that down to the early season, give it a go. Staff friendly and service good.

Lovely food as always, but the place felt dead- it lacked any vibe the staff were all very young and possibly lacked experience? no music on and just didnt feel like a place we would stay any longer than needed to eat the food. certainly wouldnt have gone earlier for an extra drink beforehand

There was a good choice on the menu and the food was very nice. Maybe just a little over priced. However, if we are in the area again, I would definitely return.

Not a great experience unfortunately. Lots of errors...too many to list but including; - only flavoured gins available, no local non flavoured available - food order taken before our drinks were brought as they took a long time - only 1 block of ice was brought with the gin and when we asked for more after a good 5 or so minutes none arrived until we went to the bar to ask for it and then it took another 5 minutes! - limited dairy free options for my friend...soup was the only starter suitable and no sauce with the chicken (nothing suitable offered as an alternative) - beef medallions brought for friend when they had ordered Haddock?! They kept it as didn't want to wait. It was delicious apparently but not what ordered. - large bottle of prosecco was charged for when only the small 20cl bottle had been served (this was then adjusted on the bill for us) Such a shame...we've been a few times and it can be hit and miss. Nice waiter staff but very inexperienced.

Food was excellent as usual. Nice friendly and welcoming staff. The vegetarian curry was fantastic, so many different vegetables cooked al dente with rice and small naan bread. Always a nice touch to be given complimentary warm bread with oils. Always lovely to visit. Thank you.

Had a fantastic dinner here a while ago so thought we would return. Very underwhelming food. Scallops starter very expensive and just ok. Goats cheese was my husbands choice was cold he expected it to be warm. Not impressed. We both chose beef stroganoff as my husbands first choice of fillet steak not available early on a Saturday evening which we thought was surprising and disappointing. The stroganoff was peppery and not enough cream and very disappointing. My husbands is so much better. We didn’t have a sweet. We won’t be returning.

Visited on a Saturday in first week in January, restaurant about 1/3rd full, limited menu with no black board specials (I assume because it was quiet session), food offered was traditional such as prawn cocktail, pate, deep fried Brie then chicken breast, beef stroganoff, oven...

Watson's Bistro is one of our favourites in Conwy. Always a great welcome and enjoyable meal in a lovely setting.

We were enticed into booking by an excellently crafted website with a menu describing inventive dishes. On arrival, an unprofessional and dour welcome, a glance at the plates of diners, examination of the real menu and the news that several items were ‘off’ was enough to persuade us that this was not the place for us. We strolled back to the Erskine Arms and had an excellent meal, professionally served.

Did think it was quite expensive for a Sunday night out

We had the shoulder of lamb and the medallions of beef which were both delicious. Followed by Lemon Curd Roullade and Sticky Toffee pudding. The sponge of the sticky toffee was so light and everything tasted lovely. My partner loved the roullade Friendly staff and...

We were disappointed in our food on this visit. My king prawns were tiny and extremely bland, as were the noodles and vegetables accompanying the belly pork. £92 for 2 including 1 glass of wine and 2 bottles of ( warm) beer

A lovely treat. We come here about 3 times a year and it never fails to impress. Excellent food and drink at reasonable prices.

Excellent place, very tasty food and great quality

We were welcomed by a young polite lady who showed us to a very appreciative corner table where we began to soak in the atmosphere, we were given menus and drinks order taken , drinks came very quickly and so did our starter, home made soup (amazing) followed by the fish dish (again amazing) we shared a sticky toffee pudding (mmm) we were asked if all was well more than once and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and evening, will be back soon.

Delicious food. Friendly efficient staff.. Seated in pleasant conservatory. My husband has a shellfish intolerance which limited his choice of starters, but he really enjoyed the pate he chose. Will certainly return.

Absolute gem. This place is totally amazing. The food is out of this world and the staff go above and beyond to take make sure everything is perfect for you. Once you experience I doubt you'd even think of eating anywhere else in the Conway area.

A family run gem - despite the strong competition Watson’s Bistro remains our favourite restaurant here in Conwy.
