The food was really nice. I can’t say the same about the cleanliness of the place. They didn’t replace the glasses which are on the table which should be replaced every time someone sits down. The table was dirty and the customer service wasn’t great. I hope to come back again but they need to fix some issues. Neutral.

Very pricey, food was average, chapli kebab and kabuli pilau were tasty but the grills and karahi dishes were average. It was a busy evening so despite placing reservations in advance we found that our group of 18 had been split between two neighbouring tables which was a disappointment. Half of the group received their order in a timely manner whereas the other half had to wait a considerable length of time. The waiters apologised for the poor service but they weren't willing to discount the bill which at £34 per person was very pricey.

The food was tasty, the atmosphere was good but the waiting was very high, overall fantastic.

I ordered on Uber Eats . They confirm the order . After 10 minutes they canceled my order . Terrible service. Why would you confirm it if you want to cancel it . . It often leaves customers feeling frustrated, unvalued, and less likely to return. Common causes include inadequate training, low employee morale, or poor company policies.

Everything Was excellent 👌🏻 Food was yummy Ayesha the lady who served us is really friendly and Hardworking. Always with a smile on her face. Guys go n enjoy !

The food was nice but a little expensive. Order a mix plate for 4 people. + whole chicken grill and lamb karahi Cost around £120. Good place to eat with family but make sure you have the time to wait. It's a very busy restaurant.

Just a hype in ilford Food is average not wow! Chapli kebab was just a blend of cheap sausage meat. Lamb chop are actually mutton chops very spicy, not tender at all. Biryani was way too spicy for a restaurant of this cuisine and they had more bones than meet! I would not recommend. Not a fair value for money!

I visited this place yesterday for lunch found their menu fairly cheap decided have panner curry with naan bread with a drink. Panner curry Is the best taste ever I've tried against other restaurant

I visited Watan in Ilford, and I must say, the mango lassi was absolutely delightful! It was perfectly sweet and refreshing, making it the ideal complement to my meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and inviting, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The menu offers a great variety of dishes, and I can't wait to return to try more. If you’re in the area, definitely stop by for their amazing mango lassi!

Had a really nice lunch in watan today. The food was really nice, we had dal maash,tandoori naan, fish sizzler and kabli pilau. The excellent service was provided by Aisha. Thank you. To finish off we had the doodh paati. Such a nice place for a decent meal. Highly recommended.

Delicious lamb and chicken charsi! We came for a family dinner. The staff were so lovely, friendly and accommodating - Aisha our server was very kind and helpful. The atmosphere of the restaurant was buzzing and it’s clearly very popular for a good reason!

I was there with the family and we had a nice time had nice food good service but we ordered a bottle of mineral water and they gave us a jug of water that didn't taste like drinking water and charged 3£ for that water we didn't say anything because we where waiting for very long time, but other then this it's a good place to dine in with family

Poor customer service, staff don’t care about the customers, we ordered Afghan mix grill and Lamb charsi, they bought the mix grill out, when asked when the lamb charsi, they explained they where busy, we had almost finished the mix grill than they bought the lamb charsi, staff didn’t care. To top things, as soon as we finished we where handed the bill, we didn’t even ask for the bill, asked why we where given the bill, staff explained this is policy when they are busy. We don’t even spend an hour. Basically they take your money and kick you out as soon as you finish your food. I am not going back again, i would recommend you stay away.

We had a family dinner there. Service was very good. We ordered charsi lamb karahi, it was average. The kabuli pulao was good. Mix grill and chapli kebab were very good. Mantu was new dish for us but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Masala fries were a disappointment. The were oily and falavourless. They offered Salam cola which was very convenient for us.

All rounder, we avoided the busy queues and went lunch time. Platter was big enough for four. Nice service and food packed flavour.

Seriously tasty grills & Chapli kebabs at Watan, Ilford. Don’t mind the queues during the evenings, it’s worth the short wait.

It was my bday so I took my friends there. When we entered the atmosphere was nice and we sat down near the window. Firstly, the chairs are dirty, like we were trying to ignore the state they were in. Secondly, we ordered Mix Grill Platter for 2 people, the guy was nice and friendly. Thirdly, salad arrived first and it was very basic, like just very badly cut onion, lettuce, few very old olives and tomatoes. Fourth, the food arrived and smelled amazing but the rice was cold and dry. The lamb chops, kebabs and grills were absolutely delicious 😋 . However the food got cold very fast. The uncles sitting near us were making too much noise so the atmosphere wasn't really good. Another thing is the toilet is very dirty, like I wasn't expecting Watan to have such bad hygiene. I heard so much about Watan but then ut didn't live up to the expectations.

I head so much about watan. When for evening meal on Sunday. Unfortunately didn’t book in advance it was fully packed we had to wait about an hour to get a table people were getting angry coz of wait some people left because it was too long to get a table but good thing was you can grab menu and order so we did as soon as we got table our food was also ready didn’t have to wait another 20-30 minutes for food. It’s a small size restaurant on busy place. Food was great service wasn’t too bad. No parking!! make sure you park your cars wherever you find space and walk to restaurant.

Best food & sevice! One of the finest places on ilford lane that has great taste and nice warm vibe. I will definitely go there next time im in the UK!

Had a variety of different grill foods and curries. The mixed grill was well made and very flavoursome. Curries were also very tasty, though the lentil dish wasn't great. The white rice also didn't seem like it was freshly made, or it could've just been the case that they cooked it with too little water, so it was very dry. Though this could also just be a matter of preference. Food took a little while, but was understandable because of how busy the shop was. Despite the very warm temperature outside, the temperature was pleasant inside the restaurant with good air conditioning, even with the kitchen being so close to the dining area. I think they could improve the queue system slightly e.g. When they don't take reservations, introduce some sort of system where they take people's numbers and give them a message when their table is ready, giving 5 minutes leeway before the table is passed into the next customer, so that loads of people aren't squished up in the waiting area.

The real deal chapli kebab made exactly like it is in Peshawar. Everything is very good and fresh. Charcoal bbq. 4 types of rice great bread options and karahi. However i wish they had beef.

Went on a Sunday night , super busy and had to queue . However the service from Shah was exceptional , taking our order and getting us a table for 8 in quick time. I had been to the one in Southall previously and the service was poor. The food was really good and quick service throughout . The chapli kebabs are a different level, mixed grill was well cooked and the right level of spice . The charsi Karahi and peshwari namkeen Karahi was divine . Only area I would improve in the restaurant is that they need to get another WC , as people were having to queue . Definetly one to visit again .

What happens when a place has a good reputation, it’s packed.. This was the only downside as they don’t allow you to book a table.. so we had to wait about 40 mins to be seated. The queue just stayed the same length for the whole period we were there. In any case it just added to the anticipation and we were not let down. 8 people couldn’t finish the following Chapli kebabs 2x mixed grills 1x full charsi chicken karahi 1x full lamb karahi 8 naans All washed down with mango milkshakes. Couldn’t fault the food. The quality was good and good bang for your buck.. Service was exceptional. You don’t mind spending extra when they hit every mark, every single time.

Great grills and the rice with meat is something in a totally different world!!! I had the lemonade drink and it was so refreshing in this hot weather. I would like to thank the great staff for their fantastic hospitality and service.

After hearing good reviews about this place we decided to give it a go one day and it did not disappoint us. We ordered a mix grilled platter which was cooked to perfection served with rice and bread. Chapli Kabab was just okay. Charsi Karahi was tasty and Mint Margarita was delicious and would definitely recommend ordering. Staff was pleasant and attentive.

Parking is wherever you can find it, down the side roads. There was a queue outside when we got there, wait was about 20 minutes, though they took our orders at the door so we didn't have to wait to eat for too long. Food was very well cooked, went for the special mixed grill. Flavoursome and very generous portions, enjoyed by the whole family (5 adults, 2 kids, one baby) Would go again

Food was very good. Service was very bad. Staff were rude, throwing cutlery m, receipts on the table etc. The staff dropped our food on the table before serving it and added it back to the dish. When requested that they changed it, they became very negative which was disappointing. The food was wonderful but the staff ruined the experience for us unfortunately

Great place for Afghani cuisine

Took my family here and we all really enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. We got the Afghan mixed grill and kabali Pilau for the kids (as these dishes are milder) the Mrs and I got the lahori mixed grill and Peshawari chicken karahi and a couple of naans. The Food came out piping hot and the grilled meat is all cooked on proper coal so has that unique charcoal backdrop taste. The meat is all very good quality and cooked just right. The karahi and lahori grills are on the spicy side, so if you are not great with chilli then I would recommend sticking with the Afghan dishes/grills. Overall an excellent experience. The staff were also very helpful and at times even helping with the kids which is lovely gesture. Looking forward to coming back again. Highly recommend to anyone that likes Afghan/Pakistani style food.

Tasty Afghan grills, love the naan (its huge). You do get a lot of rice with the mix grill. If you enjoy rice there are a few different types that are provided. Overall lovely food and decent service.

I treid their Nihari today. I must admit I have never eaten better Nihari than this one. It was delicious and the piece was so succulent. Kudos to the chef. Me and my wife had a great time today. Thanks.

The Chapli kebabs are to die for. We ordered the Chapli kebab platter, charsi chicken and daal. Great food. We arrived just before 7pm and as soon as we was seated, the queues started forming and getting super busy. Service charge was included in the bill considering the service is slow- shouldn’t be added!

its a solid 4/5. food is nothing to write home about but neither is too bad that would upset a grandma. i wish the prices were a little bit on the cheaper side because man was it expensive.

An Amazing any Day / Weekend Dine In Place but do watch the queue. With spectacular food. The chef is amazing every dish you try he surprises us from his Paya Breakfast, to Chefs Special Lahori Chana, Mix Grill, Chapali Kebab, Tikka Kebabs, Lamb Gosht, Lamb Chops, Butter Chicken and the rest I’m sure its delicious as they are…You can see the Chef cooking in action which is different and a nice setting. All the staff brothers are very polite, I even asked that why do they not charge a service charge but the local consumers refuse to pay it which completely shocked me being disappointing for such yummy food 24/7.

Alhumdulillah Very Delicious food, im regular visitor to Watan. Definite stopover for all food lovers, Good Ambience and Excellent service, Specially Manager Mr Shah handling and customer service is outstanding.

Nice decent place. Most of the time there is a cue, but cue comes down quite quick. Youd have to deive around few times for parking. Inside atmosphere is quite busy and full but not bad id say.

Lamb shish was very salty even salad was not good just onion lattace chapli kebab was good

First time trying Afghan food and it was very tasty, so underrated. Food was ok the oiler side but not a problem to me. Service was QUICK, quick to observe and serve. Had the meat Mantu (?) and that was delicious. Likewise with curry. Overall very happy. Bonus points for the size of the naan.

Very busy place in Ilford. Food is hit or miss. Some days it is amazing. Some days not so good. So very hard to give it a proper rating. The venue is a bit small, and always packed. So nice for a group meal.

Too crowded Service is good considering it was pretty crowded Food - very nice especially the mixed grilled and namak Charsi karahi (a bit oily but that's given). Note: we ordered chicken karahi, but waiter insisted we ordered lamb. Waiter 1-0 Us. Haleem - I didn't taste it, but the family said, it wasn't all that. Other than that - no complaints.

Delicious food. I would recommend getting a curry along with the platter as the platter consists of dry grilled items and rice. The Lamb Chops are cooked to medium. The Butter Chicken is sweet at tasty. Also, worth going at lunch. Theres hardly anyone in there.

Just came here specially to thanks wattan ilford lane team for their generosity and services We visited wattan today and ordered Nihari We accidently broke their mud pot and upon telling the staff they immediately rushed to kitchen to exchange the pot and to our surprise instead of questioning They served us hot new full Nihari that’s what we call customer service Hands down to best management ever We were guilty and very happy at same time that how beautifully they managed the whole situation and maintained the hygiene as well that they didn’t microwaved the gravy left in broken post Anyways thanks a lot we are already ur regular customer but from now that's our favourite restaurant ever who value customers more then anything !!!

Outstanding food, but there is not of space to sit and a long wait is a normal occurrence. The shortage of sitting space and and over crowdedness over total too a negative experience

Ac was on full blast so food went extremely cold before you knew it also with grilled food you need it to have some flavour and it to be piping hot rice was bland few of them the afghan rice with carrotand raisin was good, got order partly wrong. Decor is nice but would not go back. Sorry 😞

Place is a little small and cramped when busy, but that is Ilford lane for you, as most places are a tight squeeze! Food is amazing here, and there's always a Q in the evening! I wish the place had a better ventilation/ AC as it's an open kitchen, it can get uncomfortablely hot during busy hours!

Kabuli Pulao was Great and Mango Lassi was also good but Peshawari Lamb Karahi was not good meat was not cooked properly it was so hard to chew than complained to the manager he came and tried to cut the meat with spoon to check if we r lying but he can’t even do it with the spoon so he took it back and after few minutes came back but the meat was still the same can’t eat it

I read the reviews on google and was mix So I checked it out for myself I ordered a mix grill , prawn grill , chapli kebab and a charsi khari, I think the food was ok not the hype everyone is going on about just touching on the average, would I come here again , no I wouldn’t because it was nothing special

Food great no fault on their food, I would defo recommend the butter chicken or afghani mixed grill sharing platter. Everytime I’ve been the place is busy with long ques and it’s too noisy, they should probably play some background nasheeds to cover out the loud noise, it’s quite overwhelming hearing customers talk so loud. The customer service isn’t the greatest, as the workers try to rush you out when we haven’t finished food, which is not nice. The workers all smell like bad body odour, which is really off putting when they pass by the tables or when they distribute the food out. They really need to get their workers to wear deodorant and body spray, as the body odour really stinks it put me off my food a few times.

Easy 4* review. Door service was great, I turned up with no booking on a busy Sunday evening, he remembered me by face and made sure our party of 6 got a table without much wait. All the food was tasty and fresh. Chappli was best I've ever had, maybe due to not being Afghan I can't judge better but it was so easy to eat. Lamb charsi was boney which was disappointing as the flavour was really nice. Could have had the whole handi to myself. Lassi was lovely. Only gripe was mojito was pretty basic. Do make a visit!

Masala fish was more like gravy while i was expecting dry or fried, very salty Seekh kebab was average don’t know why they sprinkle hand full of chaat masala Malai boti was supposed to be in separate serving as i ordered as separately but it came with seekh kebab with full of chaat masala so big big no Lamb karahi was below average Rates were very high in comparison to other restaurants and doesn’t reflect taste at all Service is no doubt good but below average food Not recommended if you know real lahori food taste

Been coming here for years, does not dissapoint. Tasty, large portions and good quality. What more can one ask for. The only downside is that it get very busy and often queues are long with wait times being at least 45mins is not uncommon
