Great hotel in a great location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice comfortable rooms and comfy beds. Great value for money. We'll be back!

Went here for Mother's Day. Things started well with a complimentary glass of Prosecco but when we went through to the carvery area it was virtually bare of food. My daughter ended up with virtually no veg at all although the rest of the main course was hot and tasty. We didn't have a starter as we couldn't work out what they were. Desert had clearly been sourced from Sainsbury freezer or similar. £17 for 2 very indifferent glasses of wine and we were charged £28 per person not the advertised £20. Loos were not pleasant. All in all not good value for the £80 we ended up paying.

The rooms were clean, beds were comfy and soft. The manager Dill was very friendly and kind to all of us. We had a great time for 3 days at wards.

I had a very good experience at Wards. The rooms were great, the food was delicious and the service was top-notch. Thank you Wards for making me and my family feel comfortable. Hoping to see you soon!!

4 of us went for Christmas dinner it was the worst meal I have had at a restaurant, and grossly over priced, no way did they provide what they promised, we even had to clear the table ourselves and go and get wine and water ourselves. Unfortunately I was stupid enough to pre pay as asked! Wont be making that mistake again.

Beautiful restaurant. The staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We ordered the seasonal pre-Christmas lunch which was amazing, large portions, hot, tasty and well presented. This restaurant was also dog friendly as is the whole of the hotel, we will definitely stay here in the future.

Extremely disappointed and angry. I tried to book a table on the website only for this not to work. I then emailed to make a reservation using the email address provided on the webpage. No response at all. I then rang to book and was told that the table had been reserved for the date and time I asked for. This was supposed to be a special meal out to celebrate my husband's birthday. We arrived at the restaurant at the time booked only to be told by the person working in the bar that they weren't open and weren't serving any food. This was witnessed by people at the bar and was extremely embarrassing as I explained that I had rung to make a booking and was told that the table was booked. I was then asked several questions about who I had spoken to and it seemed almost as if it was implied that I was not telling the truth. This is no way to treat customers. If I had been told on the phone that they were not open that evening I would have made different plans to celebrate my husband's birthday. Instead having been told the table was booked I naturally trusted that this was the case only to be let down and my husband's birthday treat completely ruined. They need to sort out properly how people are able to book tables. You can't do it online, it appears that no one answers your emails and then whoever answers the phone doesn't actually book it for you, but says that they have done so. We had been to Earls restaurant many times in the past prior to covid 19 and had always been well catered for and the food had been wonderful. I had also arranged for meals out with lots of work colleagues there in the past without any problems. I think that it is possible that the hotel/ restaurant has changed hands since then. I will not be returning now as I and my husband were made to feel thoroughly embarrassed and let down.

We came here yesterday to soak up some sun. We sat outside and ordered the fish and chips. The portion was massive and well worth the wait. I would like to try again sometime.

We ordered a High Tea and a Gentleman's Tea as part of a celebration and we were amazed at the quantity and quality of the food we were given. If you are going to opt for the Gentleman's Tea be advised , you'll probably need elasticated waist trousers if you plan on eating everything. The scotch egg (about the size of a cricket ball) was amazing and the homemade chilli jam that accompanied the cheese scone was superb. However, it's not just the food that makes this place so special it's the management and staff too who really do take pride in the work and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We will be regular customers Thank you Earls.

We have just enjoyed a great evening at Earls Restaurant. The food was first class with service and drinks to match. This place is a must for anyone looking to eat in Folkestone, we'll definitely be returning

Excellent food as usual. The plates were hot (hooray!) Two had confit of duck which was served with beans, carrots and a potato dauphineuse(?). Extra roast potatoes were offered together with red cabbage and extra gravy. Others had roast pork and roast beef with seasonal vegetables (parsnip, cauli, and broccoli) together with a pig-in-blanket, stuffing and Yorkshire pudding. As the food was freshly prepared we had to wait a lengthy time but we were talking so it wasn't too bad. There was a lack of staff but we were the only table when we had booked early so again not a problem. I like the friendly atmosphere and the quiet so you can have a discussion. Other couples arrived as we finished. The good news is they are reintroducing the senior lunches later this month 2 courses at £9.99 on Mondays and Tuesdays! We'll be back then. Thoroughly recommended for the food.

Tables weren't set up properly, my niece and I had to move furniture ourselves and lay up the correct number of place settings. Food was good but the event was ruined by sloppy management and lack of empathy to the occasion. Would definitely not recommend booking for an event etc

We loved the food. My sea bass was cooked perfectly, crispy skin and all ,yum. Jackie’s pork medallions and mash were in a delicious sauce. Chapel down three graces excellent moussey fizz. Soup was good too. Nina was a great waitress. But all a bit quiet today, so no ambience . Entrance needs improvement

Having often dined at Earls in the past we booked what we expected was the Sunday carvery for a party of 12 to celebrate a birthday. We were met by only 1 member of staff who was serving meals, serving drinks to diners, manning the bar and clearing the tables. Apparently other staff had not turned up due to a family emergency. Obviously service was extremely slow - but give Nina credit - she soldiered on in the face of adversity and did a magnificent job, all with a smile on her face whilst being extremely polite. It must have been very difficult for her as other diners got up and left due to the long wait and another group complained constantly and refused to pay the service charge. We waited an hour for drinks and debated whether or not to leave as it was apparent that our meal would be at least another hour. We skipped the starter as we were all hungry by this time. We were told the main was a ‘plated carvery’ not the buffet we expected. When it arrived the food was not very hot and the portions were not very generous. Not one of the 12 diners received Yorkshire puddings! I’m not a big eater but even I still felt hungry. The deserts although limited in choice were very good. The owner arrived to assist with serving the main course but that was all the help he offered the waitress and certainly no apology or explanation to the diners for the very poor service due to inadequate staffing levels. Having seen the owners appearing on Channel 4’s Four in a Bed and their claims of offering excellent facilities and service - I can say that we were all distinctly unimpressed with the service and food. The cost of dining here for 9 adults and 3 children was £321 without a service charge! For serving lukewarm food that we waited for 2 hours for - I felt they should pay us for the negative dining experience. I would also remove their board outside stating they offer the best carvery in Folkestone. Would we dine here again - most definitely not. Possibly if the hotel and restaurant were in new hands and which could be a possibility in the not too distant future - for I fail to see how they can stay in business with such poor levels of service and quality of food.

We were in Folkstone for the day and stopped her for a meal before going to see a show at Leas Hall which is quite nearby. Connor greeted us at the bar and served us drinks. He was from Margate where we live so we shared stories about the changes and living in the same town. I ordered the Tex burger and my husband had the Serloin Steak. The food came quickly and was cooked to perfection. Thank you Connor for a great service and compliments to the chef...Will definitely come back if visiting Folkstone again

Excellent food as usual. We had the senior's menu as it was a Tuesday (served Mon and Tues). At only £13.99 for two courses plus sweets at £6.95 it was value for money. Being mid week it was very quiet. Thoroughly recommended.

An early Mother's Day celebration, avoiding the crowds on Sunday by having it Saturday. We had a couple of beef and ale pies, pork belly dinner and I had a confit of duck meal All served on very hot plates with very tasty vegetables. (See menu for proper descriptions). These were followed by (GF) roulades which were delicious. The waiter ( Christian) was attentive at a professional level. Coffee was v good, served with biscuits and mints came with the bill. Thoroughly recommended.

Had a meal at wards restaurant a couple of years ago,thought we would go again as was extremely good. How disappointed, enter the bar at 1.30 to be asked to sit and wait while they check are table. Also sitting in the bar a table of three people swearing and making people feel uncomfortable. Also a young family waiting for a table. Once we were shown to are table we went to get a starter each ,due to covid they serve it for you, a selection of salad and pate with undercooked bread rolls. After a disappointing starter thought they could redeem them with the carvery roast.... How wrong had to wait 5 minutes while the potatoes were cooked, chef then carved the meat 1 slice of beef,turkey and pork. Dry stuffing ball and cheap pig in blanket, four anaemic roast potatoes some cabbage, carrot ,mashed swede and roast parsnips, Yorkshire pudding and a brown liquid that was meant to be gravy... the only thing on my plate that was hot were the potatoes ( but not properly roasted) . None of the food had any taste or flavour and the gravy was luke warm brown liquid. On complaining to the manager ,apologies for the food you only need to pay for 1 meal. Got the bill paid and asked for copies of the bill ,upon checking had been given the wrong bill once brought to his attention refunded the over payment. Can't understand where it has gone so wrong.

Our first visit to the hotel for Sunday Lunch and a very good decision! Firstly, we were warmly welcomed by the staff who couldn't be more helpful and we ordered drinks at the bar. Earl's restaurant was very clean and well presented. Everything was clearly explained to us and we opted for two courses (lunch and dessert) from the carvery. The food was freshly prepared with three meat options ( beef, pork & turkey) and an excellent selection of vegetables with all the trimmings. The food was absolutely delicious and we just had room for our desserts. There must have been around eight options for dessert and it was hard to choose which one to have. They all looked scrumptious and I had a lemon roulade with cream followed by coffee. We had an excellent Sunday Lunch, in comfortable surroundings and at a reasonable price. We plan to try their Friday Fish Madness very soon. Highly recommended.

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely dinner in pleasant surroundings. I had a chicken caesar salad starter which was really nice and a huge plateful.We also shared a selection of mixed rolls with olive oil, chilly butter and balsamic vinegar. Enough for two.For my main I had the fish pie, which was large and very tasty. My wife had steak pie which she substituted her mash for chips. This came with four different vegetables, all piping hot.We were now too full up to enjoy any desserts. We did have some wine, and bottles were a reasonable price, especially for a hotel.Service was good, but it was a quiet night. I would certainly recommend having lunch or dinner here. A very big thanks to the manageress and all the staff for meeting all our requirements last week when we bade farewell to my wife’s beloved father. The booking was made at short notice but nothing was too much trouble, and chef even rustled-up a last minute Vegan platter that was amazing! The spread was fantastic and the (requested) “fat chips” and “doorstep cheese sandwiches” were just perfect too! Thanks again.

Our whole visit was a first class experience. The mostly young staff were helpful, polite and customer focussed. They were mindful from our booking that one of our party was vegan. The food was excellent with the beef being beautifully cooked. I can't fault this Sunday dinner. Thank you.

Myself and my family had our Christmas Day lunch here this year, and I have to say it was fabulous. The food was outstanding, everything perfectly cooked and piping hot, the starters were so good it was hard to not over do it before the main event. We had a very enjoyable Christmas Day lunch. Greeted at the door with mulled wine and friendly staff. A selection of 30 starters, 3 different meats for the main course and a choice of 15 different desserts. Every thing was prepared, cooked and presented very nicely. Currently sitting at the table with mum having just enjoyed a spectacular 3 course Christmas lunch. We are still sitting here because we cannot move. We were greeted as soon as we came through the door with mulled wine and a friendly smile. Coats taken and hung up. Having first enjoyed a drink at the bar, we came to our table and a veritable feast awaited. Super friendly staff, manager/owner very attentive. We held our works Christmas Party at Wards Hotel and were treated to a wonderful meal. Plenty of starters offering a wide choice, followed by a three meat carvery dinner and you could help yourself to as much as you like. All followed by some wonderful desserts. I would recommend this venue when considering your Christmas parties

We had our running club Xmas do 21st Dec. Food was great and I was pleased to have a lovely veggie option. The veggie wellington was delicious. All the food was great and the staff were really friendly. The young waitress Georgia was really helpful. I would definitely recommend the food and atmosphere in this restaurant.

We had our works Christmas party here on Saturday and I haven't injoyed myself so much in a long time. The meal was three course, buffet starter, carvary & a selection of twelve desserts to choose from. The buffet starter was wonderful with a huge choice of starters all presented beautifully & tasted fantastic. The main course consisted of a choice of three meats or a mixture of meats the usual pigs in blankets, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding & a great selection of different veg all cooked to a high standard. Dessert, well what can I say, how do you choose from twelve different desserts? In the end I went for the key lime pie which was delicious. We finished off with a very nice cup of fresh coffee. To round it all up there was a disco which was great fun. This was the best meal out I have had in many years & would recommend you give it a go. Thanks to all the staff for making it a great evening.

Following a distastrous Xmas party at a local venue ,last year where literally EVERYTHING was wrong .....a lot was resting on last nights annual event . Wards Christmas party was simply the best ! Venue was very festive and ambience lovely .Staff were attentive and efficient ,and nothing was too much trouble for them.The manager was friendly and welcoming -such a lovely man. Food was exceptional ,every course well cooked and high quality .Music and dancing to finish the best Christmas party night ever .Thank you wards you've restored our faith in Christmas party nights ......next year there's only one place to go !!!

On Saturday 14th December we went to Wards restaurant for our Christmas meal. They served a carvery 3 course Christmas meal, wow it was fantastic the food was brilliant I couldn’t fault it at all, there was plenty of choice and the quality was excellent the starters there was a really wide range of salad, prawns, pate, and many other yummy dishes. Mains I had turkey, beef and pork all of which were cooked to perfection there was 6 different vegetables to choose from roast and boiled potatoes Yorkshire pudding pigs in blankets and of course stuffing balls, also the gravy was delicious. Dessert well what can I say there was so much choice 19 to be exact it took me a while to choose I managed to choose and again delicious. Service also excellent and staff really friendly, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back in the future.

Just had our second Christmas lunch at the Wards Hotel. Last week I opted to start with mushroom soup and my request to have it served hot was adhered to and it was nice although I didn't like the scone that accompanied it. My second course was Belly Pork and it was awful. What meat there was disintegrated when touched almost into mush and the fat hadn't been cooked at all. I even had to return the vegetables as they were cold. Today we returned but this time I had the duck and every mouthful was delicious and the veg was hot. My only criticism was the sweetness of the sauce as it was too sweet for me but that is obviously down to personal taste. Perhaps the chef just had an off day last week but he made up for it today. Just one last point. I wish they had some sort of cover on the tables. I kept having to stop my plate from spinning away from me as the table surface was slippery. Thank heaven for the spare napkin.

My Colleagues and I attended Wards Hotel/Earls Restaurant yesterday (30/11/19) for our works Christmas Party. It was absolutely brilliant. All the staff were very friendly and attentive, especially the owner and the food was delicious. Very welcoming upon arrival and care was taken throughout the night to make sure we and everything was ok. Would 100% recommend this venue. Looking forward to hopefully returning next year.

We were a group of eight adults yesterday for Sunday Lunch including one vegetarian and one gluten free diet. The food was excellent. Plent of choice and everyone happy. For me the starters were particularly good, just about everything you could think of to choose from. So often the main course is the star of the meal but at Earls the starters and puddings were equally inviting. Thank you so much for that, it was a real treat.

Sunday lunch was delicious. Buffet carvery style with a choice of 3 meats (plus a veggie option) and plenty of perfectly cooked vegetables. Buffet salad as well as an alternative. Several lovely desserts to choose from too. Restaurant very clean and comfortable. Thoroughly enjoyable and pleasant, helpful staff. We will return!

After an exhausting, previous half-day abroad, followed by a decent sleep in Coquelles, myself and a colleague required an early lunch, upon arriving back in the UK. (Albeit, I estimated, that he required food, posthaste, as he was nursing a hangover. Not a criticism, merely an observation, as I could not criticise, due to my own, past behaviour).

Very pleasant surroundings and an excellent meal. Probably best to book as it is very popular. Staff were pleasant and helpful.

What can i say only that it was great a must place to try. The foodwas good thr price was good the service was good What more can you want?

I have seen Folkestone improve and decline several times over the decades. Certainly Earls Restaurant is an improvement. They cater for different diets, which suited us as one was vegetarian and three were gluten-free. There is a decent wine list and a nice selection of gins and cocktails for pre-dinner drinks. My wife very much enjoyed the Pea and Asparagus Risotto—I sneaked a bite and concur. Our daughter-in-law and I had Cornfed Chicken Breast Filled with a Pistachio and Apricot Stuffing, Topped with a Creamy Tarragon Sauce—delicious! Our son demolished...I mean savoured the Beef and Guinness Pie. No complaints there. Desserts were also yummy. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful and the atmosphere is conducive to a great meal and conversation. We’d certainly go back.

I booked a lunch table at Earl's for 6 people, to celebrate my mum's birthday.

We booked for dinner and walked to the venue. Not realising Earls was inside Ward’s Hotel we struggled to find the place. Having telephoned, a very helpful member of staff came outside to direct us to the hotel. Very considerate.

We were in the area and after looking on trip adviser we booked a table thinking this restaurant was the best in the area. It isn’t. It is inside a shabby looking hotel. The restaurant is small but smart looking - the only good thing. The menu was very limited. We were expecting a Sunday Carvery but the only Sunday dinner on the menu was turkey and we were informed there were only 2 portions left. 2 of us had the turkey and the other 2 had steaks. The turkey was from one of those frozen turkey rolls you can buy. The steak wasn’t much better in quality. The member of staff that served us couldn’t have cared less. He brought J20 bottles for the kids and hadn’t even bothered to shake them so all the sediments were sat at the bottom. We had our main course and left quickly. I can’t understand how this restaurant has such good reviews - I’m wondering if guests staying at the hotel are given some incentive for a good restaurant review? Surely people in the area have eaten better food than this...we went to the Rocksalt restaurant nearby yesterday - now that’s how a steak should be and friendly service as well.

It is certainly the best restaurant in Folkestone. Can recommend Rack of Lamb Roasted in Straw with a Redcurrant and Mint Sauce as well as Cornfed Chicken Breast Filled with a Pistachio and Apricot Stuffing, Topped with a Creamy Tarragon Sauce.

My wife and i visited Folkestone for the weekend and looked on trip adviser for somewhere nice to go for a Sunday lunch. Earls restaurant had a good rating so we thought we would give it a try. What a good decision that was.

We are 3 generations and took granny who is 93 for Sunday lunch. When we arrived they immediately seated us next to the buffet so gran wouldn’t have far to walk. This was kind and thoughtful. So the service is really good.

Met up with our son ,daughter in law and the grandchildren for a what we thought, would be a lovely place to eat im sorry to say we were very disappointed.... the service was not too bad but we were hanging around a lot as the poor girl seemed to be on her own which was not what we expected but she still kept a smile on her face....the food was very mediocore the rolls to start were what looked like a selection from a local supermarket, steaks were gristly and tasteless, the pie was quite nice and the veg was cooked correctly but the mash potatoe was just a big blob on the plate and did not seem fresh.the desserts ...which there was no menus the poor girl had to read them out and then had to repeat it because we had forgotten the choices ....roulades were ok ,ice cream ok ...the key lime pie was awful it was very similar to shaving foam texture... all in all awful evening and we would not return .sorry for the waitress who really needs extra help.

Great Sunday carvery as always fantastic starters mains and puds also we had a late guest arrive who was a vegan the chef made sure he was well looked after .see you again soon .Dave & john

Booked this place on the off chance never been before but heard excellent reviews. The service was spot on the courses were just lovely would highly reccomend and will be returning.

I ate here on a one night stay. The menu was good, all was freshly cooked and really tasty. Service was attentive but not over bearing. A refreshingly good dining experience. Look forward to coming back soon.

We went there to celebrate our Anniversary as this is where we had had our reception 39 years before! Can not fault anything. Service and food were exceptional. Will go back. Thanks to Carol for looking after us.

The menu is good.food is freshly cooked and tasty a delight to eat. Very enjoyable as you are not rushed,

friendly staff, great restaurant. Would recommend to anyone going to Folkestone. Me and my partner were very happy with our meal and thought the price was very reasonable. Raspberry cheesecake was amazing

Slightly out of the way which is a good thing as it gets quite lively in folkestone in the evening. The staff were friendly, the food is absolutely lovely. What more can I say it's a great place to eat. Highly recommended.

Once again 5 stars seems insufficient to reflect the standard of service and food in the restaurant! There is an excellent well varied menu with perfect presentation and taste! They accomodate children with their children’s menu making adjustments to please their young guests!

We have eaten there a few times, the owner was always there and the service WAS excellent.

We chose this as it was the top restaurant in Folkestone.

Four of us went for lunch and it was an excellent find. The food and presentation was great. The staff very friendly. Would highly recommend this restaurant and will certainly be going back.

stayed at ward's hotel last Friday booked the restaurant after reading the website … wow … great customer service looked after from the start we ordered drinks …. we don't tend to have starters prefer dessert ….. ordered our meal ..steak whilst we were waiting the waitress brought a mini starter of mozzarella and red onion chutney compliments of the chef .. steak arrived within time perfectly cooked and reasonably priced .. staff checked once if everything was ok ( any more than that winds my husband up ) then ordered dessert omg I have never tasted anything like it big thumbs up …… onto breakfast next morning coffee juice and a freshly cooked breakfast offered extra egg etc declined as the breakfast was big enough .. the owner approached us and checked everything was ok ….. ok was not the word I would use …. exceptional quality and service is how I would describe will be definitely back to the restaurant and the hotel

I booked the restaurant to celebrate my 'big' birthday for 14 people, some of whom had dietry needs and I cannot fault the staff, the venue or the meal. It was such a special evening as we were loud, we laughed a lot, there were 14 different orders and then we stayed late but this didn't matter as we were made to feel so welcome. A perfect, special evening.

Communication with Nita in advance was great as due to the size of our party pre-ordering was required. Lovely bar area to meet in to have pre meal drinks, good range of beers on tap, choice of gins and wines too.

Very good quality food, welcome and service. Quiet on a Sunday evening, but in its class this restaurant is first rate. Reasonable prices, good quality wine list including English Kent options.
