Wahaca Islington in Islington

The food is not very good. I don't think it's a problem with how it's cooked (let us not blame the chefs, o corporate overlords) but just the recipes. Ordered the platter for two or whatever they call it. It was the very existential definition of "meh". Jerome (amigo) and I had a blast playing on the miniature football table instrument machine. That was a delight that I shall relish for the rest of my days. The food itself was transitory, but the memories of that lost football match remain in my heart and in my soul for as long as I breathe. I raise my "sombrero" to you; Wahaca. You served me well.

The best Mexican in London. Speed ​​and quality in their dishes. All the staff were very attentive, especially the girl who served us at the table, very kind in advising us and informing us about each dish.

We went because of the rating on Tripadvisor but it doesnt desserve 4 *, the tacos are filled with fresh vegetables, the dishes are well presented, the waiter was friendly. However there is not much variety but most important everything is over salty, we coudnt finish the brocoli & the cauliflower. The chef wouldnt pass a cooking exam. It's very unhealthy, the taste of salt was on my mouth during my journey home. It's a pity as our 2 guests from Singapore also found the meal too salty. I cant recommend it.

Super tasty food, but the service we experienced during our last visit was shocking. We had booked a table, which we told the waitress who was greeting and seating customers. She nodded, then left us standing there... Grabbed the attention of another staff member who confirmed we had a table and walked off as well instead of taking us to it. Once we'd sat down it took 15 minutes to get a drinks order in and another 10 for the food order. We had to fight for the waitress's attention to take it. The food came quickly and tasted superb; however one member of our party whose order had been mixed up sat waiting without food for 30 minutes before theirs finally came. The staff also never came to ask 'How is everything, are you enjoying your meal?', but of course had the cheek to add a 12.5% service charge to the bill.

Loved the food there and as always the service was great. David, who served us, was so helpful and kind and he even treated us with spots at the end of the meal. Would definitely recommend this place!

It's totally disgusting behavior especially the lady stuff is too much bustered, she don't know how to behave other one, I think avoid wahaca all of customer it's totally bad very bad and very very bad it's like itoilet....

Being told you can’t have an alcoholic drink because we’ve had too much to drink, when I don’t even drink alcohol is the most disrespectful experience I’ve ever encountered, more so they stated they were happy to allow us to still eat there - will never visit this company again- terrible inexperience “snowflake” staff

very tasty food however I felt the mojito could have had more rum! Highly recommend the pork tacos and basically anything w the pink pickled onions. I spent £25 on a drink, half a starter, and the tacos. Great service too!

Very solid option for a Mexican meal, with a very quick and friendly service. I would definitely come back for the beef burrito, it was excellent :)

Super quick lunch here on a weekday- staff polite, friendly and efficient. As a huge fan of Mexican food I’ve never been disappointed at Wahaca, and the more I learn about the founder and her mission to improve diets in schools, the more I want to eat here!

Visited for lunch today with a friend. Wahaca’s has been a favourite of ours for a while, the foods always been amazing and have usually had great waiters in a number of branches. My friend had asked for tap water when she arrived first and it had been forgotten, (I’m in remission from cancer and drink a lot of water a day, I’d msgd my friend already there to ask for some.. not that we need an excuse to ask for tap water). When I arrived and shown to our table the waiter came back we politely asked for some tap water and he demanded for us to “ORDER SOMETHING!” Awkward silence.. We did, we felt awkward while ordering food and drinks, it was like he just didn’t want to be there and had a bad attitude. We ordered strawberry & mint coolers and one arrived, my friend had to politely remind the waiter her drink was missing when the main food came. We ordered a dessert to share and my friend got sniggered at. Dumbfounded with his attitude and all the looks towards us. We are just two normal, laid back women in our 30’s trying to enjoy a nice meal. The visit left us feeling shocked and sad at how rude the waiter was when we were trying to enjoy a nice meal out which felt spoilt. It said on our bill we could take the tip off but would have to ask. We left it on as we didn’t want the kitchen staff to go without, I wish we had the guts to call him out in person for the rude/off behaviour, but hate confrontation - we will sadly avoid this branch in the future.

Didn't really enjoy the food and also over priced for what it was. Service was good, but the atmosphere was lacking as it was empty.

Really great time at Islington Wahaca. Staff were super accommodating and helpful (super thanks Eric!!), the food was great, good portions, flavours and choice. Have been several times to this specific branch and will return again and again, great stuff :)

We were accommodated quickly at a busy time. Service was good although the dishes did not arrive in quite the sequence we had in mind. The food was good and reasonably priced for these difficult times.

Took my partner, a friend, and my two children here for an early supper. The food was tasty, varied, suited all tastes and delicious. The service was first class. The bill was slightly more than expected, but that's the same with everything these days. The surroundings were slightly tired and scruffy, which is not my experience of other branches, hence the lower rating for atmosphere.

I came to pick up an order this afternoon. The redhead guy was really rude and unprofessional, even racist. He ignored what I was saying, and he took it so personal that even my order was ready, but nobody gave it to me! You should train your staff to respect anyone coming to your shop otherwise your company's reputation will be destroyed easily!

Food was really good! Some great vegetarian options and we loved the sharing plates. Highlight was the sweet potato taquitos. Good atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back!

Work colleagues went for a meal... very nice food. The waitress was excellent - sorry forgot her name!

Visited islington branch with family yesterday and the food was awesome with special mention to the fish tacos, buttermilk chicken tacos, Halloumi tacos, taquitos, zesty bean tostada, veggie nachos and the quesadilla. The desserts we had were very good too with the roasted pineapple with agave and Chipotle glaze especially good as was the chocolate and pecan brownie served warm with good quality vanilla ice cream. Our waitress Sophia was very attentive and courteous and gave specific information about each dish as well the drinks. Cocktails were very nice with the picante margarita our favourite but not for those who don’t like spice. Passion fruit maragarita was very nice too as is their passion fruit martini. Would definitely recommend and better than the Covent Garden branch in my humble opinion. Also less busy and four mins walk from Angel station.

Been to this Wahacca quite a few times already, main reason - it's cosy, it's well located and both food and staff are great! And added bonus - spookily cute El dia de los muertos decorations 🩵👻

Great mexican food with a twist. Superb!

Ordered online for collection an hour in advance. When arriving, I’m told that the order came in at the time of my arrival…making me wait for 15min. This place doesn’t respect your time and has unreliable systems. I asked for a gesture for my time (although, any business with any commercial acumen would have done it without me asking) but was told to wait or leave.

Delicious food, would recommend the chicken quesadillas. Be careful with phones/wallets on the table - whilst we were eating, a man came over with a leaflet and put it on the table over one of our phones. Luckily we caught on and were holding our hands over them, but be careful! Staff were quick to intervene and remove the man from the restaurant. They then warned us that this is a regular occurrence in the area and thieves will often do this to steal phones / wallets from people’s tables

Two of us shared the vegetarian set menu and thought it was delicious! So much food! We were told items would come out at different times which we were fine with. Everything actually came out at more or less the same time, which meant some dishes were starting to cool by the time we got to them. Attentive and helpful staff, friendly atmosphere.

Not my thing. Food looked lovely but not to my taste and I'm a very fussy eater who isn't a fan of onion. I thought the potato bravas was very greasy, The quesadilla was lovely though. Would I come back - no Would I recommend to someone who likes this sort of food - yes

I liked the courtesy of the waiter when taking the order, it was the first time we went and he recommended us his favourite dishes such as crab tostadas or the carnitas, plus a bottle of wine made my parents feel at ease.

I visited Wahaca in Angel, London with a group of seven yesterday, and unfortunately, our dining experience was far from pleasant. We ordered separate dishes and drinks, but one dish never arrived. When we brought this to the attention of a waiter who wore a brown printed shirt, black shorts, and had a brown beard, he displayed a dismissive attitude. Despite our polite requests, he made no effort to rectify the situation or apologize. We were left waiting for our missing dish until it was time to pay the bill. This lack of attentiveness and professionalism from the staff, especially from the waiter with the brown printed shirt, greatly marred our evening. Even beyond this issue, the overall quality of the food, including the margaritas, left much to be desired. The lack of flavor in our dishes was disappointing. If I could, I would give the waiter a zero-star rating for his service. In the future, we hope that Wahaca improves its customer service and food quality to provide a more enjoyable dining experience. Sadly, we left the restaurant without having enjoyed our meal due to the unfortunate series of events.

Ive been repairing and maintaining equipment here since they have opened, one of the cleanest places ive been and the food is always amazing

Music is ridiculously loud, and this place is understaffed. What staff there are were ok in the beginning, but seemed to quickly lose interest. Our cups and plates piled up until we asked 2 or 3 times for them to be removed. Our bottomless nachos indeed had a bottom, as we found it and no one ever came to refill. Sat there for 45 mins after finishing our food and weren't offered more drinks or the bill - were just ignored. The bill came with a 30 quid service charge on it which given we'd had a dirty table for most of the night seemed a bit excitable. Pricey, passable food in small portions, inconsistent service, not enough staff and those who were there did not care that much.

Love Wahaca, this is the second one I've been too. The food is truly excellent and the layout of the Islington branch feels open.

A bit too much background music which was turned down when requested the second time. The restaurant had a nice airy feel and the skylights and plants give it a pleasant ambience.

All the vegetarian options are incredibly tasty (i am vegetarian), quick and great service, excellent music and atmosphere! My favourite place. Only big down is the cashless policy.

Long standing family favorite, we took our son to Wahaca for lunch on Sunday. Good guacamole and chips, with nice Margaritas. Food was pretty good (shout out to the pork pibil tacos and cheese & bean quesadilla), service not bad. Setting is nice. It feels a bit like the menu needs a revamp though, as beyond the usual things we order we were struggling a bit.

Zu viel Eis im Cocktail, Essen viiiiiel zu scharf. Bedienung war nett aber würde es nicht nochmal machen.

The server in the pineapple shirt was super friendly and helpful. Made us feel welcome and always had a smile on. Wish you’d get this kind of service everywhere. Give him a raise!!

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Favourite plate was mushroom quesadillas :) had to wait a little to be seated but the staff were welcoming and friendly so wasn't a problem. They also had a foosball table at the entrance

Early dinner with grandchildren - we all left hungry! Portions are very small (ordered classics for adults and kid’s menu) and overpriced. First time ever my grandson of 8 (with a normal appetite) had to order another portion of food. Drinks not much better. Husband ordered a mojito which was 60% crushed iced and 40% mojito. Average service. No ambience. Won’t be going again.

The guacamole could’ve used some jalapeño’s, salt and a little more lime. The sweet potato toquito was absolutely insane, crispy shell with a gooey spicy cheesy filling, covered in spicy mayo with cool sour cream, it was stunning. The butter milk chicken taco were nice too, had a nice Cajun spice to them. I tried the crab but personally wasn’t a fan was almost like a tuna mayo on a crispy tortilla felt lazy from the chef there. Everything else however was on point! Great service too everyone very polite and had great smiles. Would definitely be back and really recommend.

Very happy about this restaurant. I did like the flavour af the different tacos (I didn't had mexican often so I wouldn't know about the authenticity but it did taste good). The service was quick and precise, the food was well done and well presented. We spent less than 80£ for 4 people having a really good amount of tacos, nachos etc (no drinks).

I was really looking forward to this restaurant. I love Mexican ❤️. It was a birthday surprise for a friend. However, this place just really doesn't live up to its reputation and certainly does nothing exciting for Mexican cuisine. I'm so very disappointed. The nachos, which are very simple to put together, looked nice but seemed under topped. I ended up leaving a whole bunch of dry nachos uneaten as there was nothing to eat them with. There was barely a decent topping of the black beans, and it was just very bland. 2 friends had the share option. They enjoyed some, but in equal measure wouldn't write home about the rest. The sweet potato dish and pineapple topped tacos came out as favourites. The water bottles are obviously well used, and I wouldn't drink water out of them, no matter how pretty the bottle looks. All in all, a blah experience not fitting for the £160 price tag (We also had cocktails). Next time, I'll make the mexican food at home and treat the others to some real flavour!

Great food. We had the Favourites Set Menu Wonderfully tasty. Too much to allow tasting the desserts. The sweet potato bravas was really really good the crab tostados was definitely one to try. I finished with a Picante Margarita instead.

Lovely waitress but the food was terrible. There are some amazing Mexican restaurants here in London and we thought we’d give this a try. We were a little shocked at how bad the food was. Super friendly waitstaff but we won’t be back.

We went to this restaurant after exhibiting in Islington for a business trip. The staff had more people than I think they were anticipating (due to an event) - so the service was a bit slow - but they were really nice about it and apologetic. The food was absolutely lovey… not had much in the way of Mexican food (other than fajitas and nachos!) but this was absolutely delicious. Thoroughly recommend going… hoping to go again next time we are over in Islington!

Amazing experience in london. I’ve been there so many times I’ve lost the count. It’s a must have if you’re in the city and you want to try something different (if you’re full of local food). The place it’s loudy -in a good way- and invites you to have a good time with good music and tasty coctels. We tried the guacamole, tacos al pastor, cochinita, halloumi tacos and the one with mushrooms. Also we ordered horchata de arroz, agua de jamaica and an amazing pasion fruit margarita. Btw they have so many different options for veggies 🌱 Ps.: it’s kids friendly! 🤣😜 They have high chairs, kids menu and an entertainment kit. ♥️

Food is good… but if I place is cashless it gets a bad rating from me. Give options. Cash is king. Anonymity and privacy.

I can't comment on the atmosphere as it was delivery. But the portion sizes are small. Below is what arrived for my nachos, and the quesadillas didn't even use one small wrap.

Our family of five visited on a busy Friday night without a reservation and had some fun playing table football while waiting for a table. The kids had not eaten Mexican food before and found trying and sharing the food a lot of fun. Our server was nice and friendly but the restaurant seemed rather understaffed. I wasn’t keen on the crab tostado but the rest of the dishes were very tasty.

Cool, Classy & Casual. Cocktails and food were unreal, looking forward to returning.

Just had dinner around 8.45pm, I expected way more people for the "cinco de mayo" in a mexican restaurant but anyway the atmosphere was good with great music. Crab Tostada (£7,50): 6/10 Buttermilk Chicken Taco (£7,75): 8/10 Chicken Burrito (£12,50): 8/10 - extra guacamole (£1,75) - grill cheese (£1,25) Basil Mezcalita (£8,25): 9/10 Service Charge 12,5% (£4,87) tot. £43,87 Overall the food was nice, luckily getting better in sequence. The crab tostada didn't have much flavour, but the tostada was super crunchy. The taco had many flavours blending together perfectly and I enjoyed it a lot. The burrito on one side was amazing due to the chicken taste, nice and unexpected; on the other rice and beans lacked some kick. Basil mezcalita was just amazing.

Very tasty when it's not busy and done right but they have issues with consistency. Your favourite thing one visit might be your least favourite next time. The vegan chicken tacos are surprisingly good but weren't as nice last time we tried.

Not enough staff. Felt bad watching staff stretched managing so many customers. Food includes service charge and is on the expensive side but tastes good.

The worst ever takeaway experience. We ordered for my partner’s birthday dinner, it took 40 minutes waiting for it to arrive and then they cancelled our order, by which stage it was too late to order from any other restaurant. Thanks for ruining a birthday Wahaca!

Have been to a few Wahaca restaurants, so thought we’d try out Islington. Staff all lovely and food was hot & fresh. The pork pibil was a little watery, but wouldn’t knock a star off for that. Our favourite is the sweet potato bravas! The hand washing station by the front door, should be in all restaurants!
