Good food and service in a convenient setting

Ordered delivery couple times from here. The food is really awesome. Excellent taste and interesting menu. But the portions are too small for the price in my opinion, especially quesadillas and tacos. Definitely recommended!

food is great, I’m always looking for the most similar mexican flavours. so my review: - guacamole: fantastic. right amount of lime and onions - pork pibil taquitos: delicious. - horchata: had to order two cause I missed them so much! honestly great - frijolitos con crema: yes, always a yes

Pretty standard city location, staff were a bit inattentive but wasn’t too bad at all. All the food was hot and up to order, nachos were very good!

Had a great meal. The staff are really friendly, however a little slow but it was a busy Saturday night so not unexpected. The food came out quick and the selection of drinks was lovely. The toilets are up two flights of stairs but I believe there's a lift for anyone in need of it. Sat by the door to start where there was a breeze but the waitress was happy to find us a new table further over. Would definitely go back!

First experience and enjoyed it, only thing which wasn't explained about was the food will come out once it's ready and not all at one go, first our daughter's food then 5 minutes later my partner's and a further 10minutes later was mine safe to say I was hungry at this point. Will be back to try out rest of menu, went for the sweet potato veggie rainbow bowl and it was delicious.

Great service. Very friendly and quick as we were in a bit of a rush to attend a concert.

My first experience here and I loved it. The food was fresh and delicious. Really tasty and such a good range of options. We had the GF menu as my friend is celiac and they were very supportive and understanding of this. I'll definitely be returning!

I shared the delicious set meal for 2 with a friend consisting of Sweet Potato & Feta Taquito, Plantain Tacos, Black Bean & Three Cheeses Quesadilla, Toasted Corn Bread, Ancho Mushroom Tacos, Zesty Bean & Feta Tostadas and Seasonal Greens. This worked out at a reasonable £23 each and well worth the money for the fantastic selection of fresh and incredibly tasty food that was served. Each dish was perfectly seasoned, looked beautiful and most importantly tasted fantastic. The service was generally quick although it took a few tries to get the bill. All in all very happy with such a delicious meal and great to try such a variety of food that was so well cooked.

Pleasant environment, friendly and efficient service and the food was fine. I would have liked a bit more chicken in my burrito but overall a good place for a meal. Atmosphere only 3 because mid afternoon and the place was fairly quiet.

Would like to give a huge shout out to a girl called Sophie Ellis. I've came in a couple of weeks ago by myself and that girl could not have been anymore kinder or attentive to me and all the other tables in her section, I belive it was her first time on the floor and she absolutely smashed it. Hope this gets back to her and her management as she really does deserve the praise. Absoulte credit to the company !!!!!!

Love this place. They use a separate menu for vegan and gluten free which is fantastic. Food is delicious.

Me and my mum discovered this restaurant on our first trip to Cardiff and we've been back every time since, even two nights in a row on our last visit! Great location very close to the train station and as the service is very prompt this means it's a good option for a pre-travel meal. The food is absolutely delicious including great vegetarian/vegan options. We go for the set menu which is just the right amount of food and great value in my option. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Really good food, not too expensive

We had a great time at Wahaca yesterday evening. We were quite a large group and the service was amazing we had our own private area upstairs and it was great Cardiff University Media Social. Special thanks to our waiter Gavin who gave us everything we wanted and more!

Booked for a group of 13 people, easy booking with quick confirmation and replies. Arrived 30 minutes early and staff were prepared to accommodate us and welcoming. Service was excellent and efficient, considering the amount of people on the table this was impressive. Food was excellent, no faults, we had one person with a nut allergy and one gluten free and this was dealt with perfectly. Price was reasonable and for the quality of food, definitely worth it! All round excellent experience, would recommend.

Always great service and food, Jess was great with our young son. Wahaca never disappoints, came all the way from Bristol as it's pretty much the only restaurant we like to go to 👍

Overall had a nice a meal, but just noticed we have been charged an extra cocktail on our order. The waiter brought a standard margarita over, but we had ordered a blackberry, so he took the standard one away and brought back a blackberry one. Turns out we got charged for both. But I guess I should have checked the bill before paying. Have emailed the restaurant so will see what happens. Also there is a discretionary service charge added to the bill, which can't actually be removed? Have no problem tipping, but don't like it to be forced onto people.

Food is OK here, although this time, the burrito I had was on the cold side. Not the usual standard, but they did offer me a free desert to make up for it, so I regard that as good service. The Burrito was too big for me to finish, so the portions are good too. Very pleasant people serving, so I recommend the place even if it's a chain. Food still on the cold side when I visited today Jan 11th 2024. It was enjoyable but needed to be warmer. A hotter plate, may help. Won't be back until they sort this out.

the food and the atmosphere are so nice

We visited as a party of 4, food was great but the service was a let down. Dishes came put completely at random, so my wife and friend ended up finishing their mains before the other starters had even arrived. Items were missing from my meal but at that point I just preferred to take what I'd been given as sending it back would've taken too long. The icing on the cake was the attitude change of the staff when I asked for the service charge to be removed. Tasty food, but let down by poor staffing who seemed out of their depth that night.

Good tacos and the place has loads of seating.

overpriced and underwhelming. The foods not terrible, but very small portions for the price you pay and not particularly memorable. The waiter who served us throughout was pretty good, but the waitress who (eventually) brought our bill was a bit abrupt and rude at end of our meal. Don't waste you time with this place.

Cannot wait to go back! Just stunning

We dined in 11 and we went for the sharing menu, pretty much everything went wrong. The starting nibbles were ridiculous, with per person (literally) 3 nachos, 1 cube of plantain and a quarter of a mini chorizo. Quite long wait between this an the main meal, with side being delivered first (a small pate of potatoes and a small plate of kale and broccoli to be shared between 3-4 people), followed by the scant main, 2 chewy room-temperature tortillas with ham hock, onion, cauliflower, some dry refried beans and some pork crackling so hard I could not chew them. The churros for dessert were really dense and overly sweet. Overall the food was not terrible, but such in small quantity and not of a quality that justifies a price of 35 pounds per person. Front of house was in a state of chaos, no checks were performed, tables were not cleared and in multiple occasions we struggled for example to ask for water or cutlery. The place was very crowded, which is not an issue per se, but at that price point it's just not competitive with other establishments in walking distance. This was my first time there and I certainly won't be returning. Avoid if you can.

Very nice ambience, service and food.

Booked a table for lunch as my partner and I wanted to try somewhere different for a change.Food was very tasty although expensive for what you got. £7.50 for 2 small festive tacos is overpriced in my eyes. Service was excellent although the 10% service charge is ridiculous. You should be able to alter this to what you see fit without the need to notify the server causing you embarrassment. The atmosphere was very nice and the decor was on point. Overall, as nice as the food was, I came away wondering how our lunch had come to nearly £60 for what we got so I wont be rushing back.

Very good quality food and great service. They take allergies very seriously, and were extremely helpful when dealing with our table. Service can be a little slower when really busy, but it's worth the wait.

When we arrived 7 serving bowls had brown water residue in the bottom. Got them changed!! Ask about the empandanas on the special board was told we don't do them anymore.. my favourite Mexican street food.. so I ordered the echalladas. Bearing in mind my ex partner of 18 yrs came from Honduras and her mother cooked the best Latin and Mexican food. So I was served 2 things that looked identical to empandanas swimming in tomato sauce with mayonnaise over the top WITH NO GRILLED CHEESE!!!!! Echalladas are rolled tortillas with filling small amount of tomato sauce then cheese and finished off in the oven. Worst excuse for Mexican food ever. I ate it is quickly as possible drank my wine and kept quiet as I didn't want to ruin my mates wife's birthday. Mexican restaurant that doesn't sell chimachanges. Joke

All food is freshly prepared and delicious. Reasonable prices. Great service with a smile :) Took one star off for adding the tip on the bill without disclosing it.

Great mexican food place, was very busy on the weekend but they still found us a table :) Vegan and vegetarian options

My boyfriend and I booked the table at Wahacas for 8:15 on Saturday night, we booked it previous night. When we arrived we were asked to wait a while and then we were guided to our table which was on the last (3rd) floor by the entrance to the toilet opposite the bar. The area was completely empty we were the only table sat there, the lights were bright and it looked like this part of the restaurant is closed. On the other side of the floor there was a big party with around 15-20 people dressed up which looked like a private party/dinner. As we sat down I have spoken to our waiter, told him this doesn't feel right as we booked the table and expected to be sat in a more vibrant place rather then in the area which seems closed, he explained they had a lots of unexpected walk-ins. I have said that surely they should prioritise customer that have already booked the table like us, he just smirked, said sorry and walked away. The food arrived all at different times, every person serving us food just put the plate on the table and run away, we have never been asked if we would like another drink or did have a check back. I had a vegan bowl that lacked flavour to my liking so I stopped one waitress walking by to ask for any spicy sauce, unfortunately the sauce was brought at the end when we finished eating everything and my boyfriend pork tacos arrived together with the sauce, Tacos were totally cold and my boyfriend left the entire plate. I needed to go to the bar to bring us some water, our table was totally forgotten about. We have cleared our own table putting empty plates on the table next to us. Nobody ever came to cleare it for the 1,5 hours we've been there. Only at the very end when we put our jackets on waiter came with a card machine and a bill adding 10% of a service charge. We've spent £70 in the restaurant that evening and honestly it was not a nice experience for either of us. This was the very first time dining at Wahacas and unfortunately the last one.

We had lunch here last week. We are a group of 8 with some high spirited children with us. Our server was brilliant. Really patient and attentive and did not let the kids faze her. We had a member of the party who has allergies and they delay with this amazingly and with care and attention to detail The food was great and a good price and over all we had a brilliant time Thank you

I’ve Always loved wahaca, but very disappointed that they now don’t offer the meal for 2 and they’ve stopped doing the trecle farm chorizo and potato quesadilla’s. They were the best ones 🤷🏻‍♂️

Food was excellent, works like wagamamas where the food arrives fresh whenever it's ready. Wait staff were lovely however not very attentative. Watched three stand in full view of us and chat for over five minutes before they realised we were done and wanted to order dessert and have our plates cleared.

Great restaurant and great vibe as a whole we went on a Sunday night so was quieter than a Friday most likely.. I've eaten lots of mexican so knew what to expect but the waitress was quick to offer any help we might need in choosing foods or portion sizes as there isn't a "3 course" deal or style there, it's just eat till you pop!

Great idea. Lovely food, but it turns up in dribs and drabs meaning you don't all wat together and it can take a while. Tiny kitchen with lots of tables to serve. Just didn't work for me. Food quality is excellent though.

Great service. We didn't eat there as the food came and for the price it was ridiculous. Hardly any fillings and tiny portions. Can't fault the staff though they were excellent

I’ve never had a bad experience here. The food is invariably delicious and the service is reliably friendly. At my visit today, there was a minor problem with one of the items we ordered, but our server, Sian and the rest of the team resolved it very quickly and kindly. We recommend the Sweet Potato Rainbow Bowl and the Allioli Mushroom Club Quesadilla. The guacamole is also fabulous.

We came here as a large group of friends and decided to all order from the sharing menus. We were warned that the food would come out as and when cooked but there was no way of checking that we had got what we ordered. There were a lot of vegetables and very little meat. The food was average, and some of us left still hungry Only cans of beer, no draught. Don't go for the spicy beer option - it will blow your tastebuds. Some of that spice should be added to the food, which was a bit bland

Excellent Mexican food for a decent price. The menu is great - it has a large range of tacos (with plenty of vegan options that aren’t just black beans!) and interesting dishes such as crab tostadas. I also really like the decor here - it’s vibrant and colourful yet still modern and clean. Also the service was actually great!

Lovely food. Good price. Nice restaurant. Only mark down is because they somehow managed to run out of all white wine and prosecco, meaning some cocktails were also unavailable.

Great for gluten free. Been a couple of times, and as a coeliac, really comforting to have knowledge staff for allergies /intolerances.

Craving Mexican food so glad we found this place, service was great we came when it had just opened at 12pm Millie was wonderful! Had a seat outside so not sure on the atmosphere inside was busy, food came out when ready was gorgeous very flavoursome the highlights were the sweet potato bravas and the guacamole!

It’s a big airy place, perfect for the large group I was in so we didn’t have to shout at each other. We were seated upstairs. Service was quick and polite. I ordered burrito with extra guacamole. Dishes came around and before my burrito arrived a guacamole with fries came up. I assumed that couldn’t be mine because I didn’t ask for fries just some guacamole with my burrito. So it went back again unclaimed. When the burrito arrived it had no guacamole and the guacamole was still on the bill. We were such a big group it wasn’t worth arguing about the bill but a bit of explanation when I ordered might have helped. My burrito tasted great, though could have been a little hotter. Four enchiladas ordered were sent back as they were not warm at all. To Wahaca’s credit they knocked all four off the bill with no argument, and sent up four hotter ones. Overall then I would definitely return, especially if with a large group.

Haven't been to a Wahaca since one opened in Westfield, Shepherds Bush. Have to admit it wasn't bad. Liked the Burrito and my glass of Merlot was good too. Service was spot on and it was good to meet Cameron, who seems to be a manager, again. Will certainly visit again. Visited again and the food was on the cold side. The chicken Burrito wasn't as good with the chicken being on the fatty side. May think again before another visit. The staff were lovely though.

The food was very good and deserves 5 stars, the service was also good. But there was something wrong with the vibe - it felt more like a fast food place, rather than a restaurant. Plus no draught beer - mine was given to me in a can!

The atmosphere is good at Wahaca, but the food is really bad. The enchillades came as two flat pancakes with a sweet tomato sauce covering everything - and semi-cold. The burrito cane icecold and was heated. It contained mainly rice and had no taste was so ever. Wahaca has a strict environmental profile but should consider how friendly to the climate it is to transport Mexican beer in bottles across the Atlantic. Service is very good.

Food was really good! The service was smooth and there was a nice atmosphere. Overall, I give them a 5, but I always find it questionable when a restaurant has an opt-out service charge, particularly when you pay online and it doesn't give you an online option to reduce or change the service charge.

I am appalled by my experience today the service was terrible and it took an hour for them to bring out one serving of food for myself then me and my family waited another 25 minutes for the rest the food was mediocre and most of it was cold. I will not be coming back here again

The food you expect from Wahaca. Which is great. Service is always good. Acoustics aren't great and can get a bit loud and Boomie. But... Great overall.

We visited with family yesterday to celebrate our Grandson's birthday. The food was very nice, some of the dishes were a little on the spicy side for a 9 year old. The staff were friendly and helpful. As per other reviews the dishes were drip fed to us but that said the wait was not excessive.

Second time of eating here. This time was a group of six of us. Food is great and the service (Heyden?) was great. If you have room for dessert after your food you really have to try the Churros with the caramel sauce... oh...my...God!!!

Lovely vibrant, fresh, tasty food

Superb food, excellent service, lovely environment.. My wife and i were in Cardiff for lunch. She hadn't been to Wahaca before and absolutely loved it. Guacamole and chips was a great starter Wife had the burrito whilst I went with a few plates of tapas- fish tacos, pork pibil, and beef gringa. Pacifico beers were good, just wish they had draft beer. Service was really friendly and attentive. We sat in their outside dining area which was quite newly installed apparently. Made for a great lunch whilst people watching. Will definitely return.

Jess was a fabulous and very happy server. We had the crab tostadas which were the best thing we’ve eaten here, so fresh and beautifully garnished. Their version of an old fashioned is also now one of my favourite drinks. One of the best restaurants in Cardiff, very consistent within terms of great food and service

First time here. Amazing service 👏, extremely knowledgeable, super friendly, and helpful. I have a few dietary requirements, so this limited my options quite a bit but the food i had was nice. Deco was nice. My only negative was the washrooms are on the top floor but there is a lift for people with restricted mobility

Food as always was very nice, but on the last few visits the service hasn't been great. Last night we were sat away from everyone else and seemed to get forgotten about many times. We eventually had to ask if we could order drinks and waited an awful long time for our food. We had to ask again for more drinks then our bill. So I wouldn't go here if you're in a rush before a show. Also maybe its just me but I found being called 'lovely' or 'my love' constantly a tad condescending by the 20 ish year old waitress, being well into our fifties.

Only deducting a star because of the price of food here. It's a little steep. Great choice for dietary requirements though! Tasty and fresh. Worth a stop.

Loved our food and drink. Jess was amazing! Yummy tacos and quesadillas. Fabulous basil mezzicalla cocktail. It's a shame that the lift was out of order, as one of us finds stairs a challenge, and no ground floor toilet. All round we really enjoyed though.

We had a group booking of 45 and the manager had very kindly booked out the whole top floor for us, which was really kind and made the eveni g that little bit extra special. The atmosphere was buzzing, with vibrant colours and a constant flow of Corona's and Cocktails adding to it. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive and manged all of orders extremely wll, especially considering that most people had forgotten what they had ordered. I ordered the pork pibil tacos to start and the chicken and chorizo enchiladas for my main. The pork taco had a nice balance of flavours and a good amount of spice, although I would have liked to have a seen a wedge of lime on the side and some fresh herbs on top to compliment the dish. The enchiladas was a great portion size and was tasted nice, but didn't give me that wow factor. It also was accompanied by a small side salad and rice with kidney beans. I particularly enjoyed the rice, as it reminded me a little of rice 'n' peas. Overall a nice main with a delicious surprising accompaniment. I really enjoyed my experience and the staff made it extra special for our large party of people, a big thank you to all the staff.
