Adorable little place in the heart of Durham. Located at the top of a winding staircase, this place is fabulous. Light fluffy waffles are the star here. Cooked to perfection, the come with all sorts of toppings. Cute names for the different waffles. Service was excellent. If you like waffles, this is a must!!!

Started off really well and went over to the counter and ordered a crepe with banana and Nutella and specifically stated no strawberries I also asked for a San Pelegríno still water as this was on the menu also. I was the first person to order and the last to eat in the end. I got brought my water over which was a cheaper brand water that I just paid £2 for - what would I have liked to have seen ? We’ll when I asked for san pelligrino still water to be told that they don’t have that in. Finally my crepe comes and I take a bite and realise that it’s got strawberries in all the way through which I’m allergic too. One of my family members takes it back and says that I asked for banana not strawberry there’s a reason why I can’t eat it and didn’t want it on my crepe. Then 5 minutes later another crepe comes out that was my bitten crepe that someone had opened up and picked the strawberries out and put banana in. Disgusting absolutely … not sure if this was a mistake or just being stingy either way it’s not on. It then again gets returned because there is no way I am eating that and it gets explained once again there is a reason I can’t eat strawberries to which then one of the owners comes over to serve the correct crepe and apologise . I really hope a lesson was learnt today because cross contamination is not a joke. Please be careful when eating there. I didn’t get offered a refund but then again they were willing to serve me a bitten crepe again so it didn’t surprise me that much.

This place is SO GOOD you have to go there, staff were lovely, seemed like a sweet comfy family owned business - we got the berry good and clucking fantastic waffles and they were so so delicious, will defo be coming again! Must try

Very friendly, great treat. We were lucky and it wasn't busy. Warning - smells like sugar as soon as you walk in so you should just enjoy and forget about the calories. My teen was so happy we stopped here on our trip to durham.

Excellent food at an affordable price point. Staff are some of the friendliest souls I have ever met, never received better customer service in my life. Wish I lived closer so I could come here more often. Will undoubtedly be the highlight of your day in Durham. Perfect atmosphere for cute lunch dates, family dinners and study break treats. Would rate higher if I could!

I wish I could review the waffles which I’m sure are delightful but I couldn’t get a delivery for the life of me over lockdown! My order kept getting cancelled despite being told on the phone that they’re open and delivering.

Waffles are very light and airy. Loads of flavour combinations and super tasty.

Placed in an old building has got a lot of old buildings quirkinesses. Tight staircase, low ceiling, little room. The food is delicious and very filling (and not at all healthy). All freshly made in a tiny kitchen with what seemed like insufficient number of staff, which resulted in extremely long waiting time- hence one star deducted. As a group we tried 4 different waffles and all of them were very, very tasty. Total came a bit on the pricey side for what it was (around £35 for food and drinks for 3) but not extremely. In overall - very good experience but don’t visit if you are in a hurry!

Gorgeous waffles and very good service. The place is a small cute cafe-like restaurant with limited space. The ambiance is chilled and there's no loud music or anything so you can easily have and enjoy a nice conversation. There are loads of Waffle options too which is cool!

Waffles were amazing, so much choice, we had sweet ones, lady who worked there was so nice and friendly, would definitely go back and can't recommend enough. Waffley is very clean and loved the decor. Reasonably priced.

Lovely atmosphere, really hard to choose, every option is mouth-watering. At first it seems pricey but then it arrives piled with scrumptiousness.

Does what it says on the tin, superb waffles freshly made with lashings of toppings. Beware getting up the stairs its like climbing Everest but once there find yourself a table and enjoy a decent selection of both sweet & savery. I can see the student population flock8ng to this place for a sugar fix most of the time.

I've tried lots of the waffles here (both sweet and savoury) and they've all been really tasty. You can also get a half sweet and half savoury which I love. The atmosphere is really cosy and friendly also. Only downside is they don't take card.

My wife and I visited on a busy Saturday and the staff were very warm and welcoming. It was very difficult to get a pram up and down the narrow stairs so not recommended however the staff helped us take it up and down. After sitting down we ordered two berry waffles and they were delicious! Highly recommended.

The staff were incredible and the owner made our experience one of the best we've had. This place is laid back, fun loving and cool. The food was great value for the price and the chicken and waffles were incredible!

Went to celebrate a friends birthday and the waffles were so so good! Very generous portions and worth the price. Would suggest sharing though as a whole waffle on your own can get sickly sweet.

They serve the best waffles ever. A choice of sweet, savoury or half n half all freshly cooked to order. Lovely staff

Came to Waffley with a friend for breakfast, and we were not disappointed. Service was great and the food excellent. We were particularly hungry so shared a savoury waffle and had a sweet one each. All three were delicious. Prices weren't unreasonable. Would definitely return.

Lovely staff but the veggie break was disappointing. Compared to the sweet and other savoury options there was barely anything on it. Would be better to charge more and have more eggs etc if it is money saving that you are aiming for

waffles are not crispy but quite soft and chewy. It would be a good choice if you are looking for soft waffles rather than crispy ones.

We’ve walked past this place for ages but never ventured in until today. We shared a great waffle as a short pit stop but will be back soon to sample more of the delights. A hidden gem!

Great place in a very small location, but tasty waffles. The menu offers a variety of choices. Worth a try with friends. Only accepts cash, so make sure you do not visit with only cards in hand.

Visited without booking during Lumiere festival. Had to wait for a seat but staff were really friendly and kept us updated. Food is amazing, i had Nutella and fluff with ice cream and absolutely loved it. My partner had banarama with cream and said it did not disappoint. Very well priced for Durham.

Very tasty waffles, however, there are only 2 waffle makers so I had to wait quite long for my order, and my group received their food at different times.

Try the Scoff!!! Original creation and it's delicious!! The service is so friendly and helpful. Really great place and no doubt super original recipes. If I could rate them with a thousand stars, I would, they deserve each and every one of them.

I took my 3 children in for a treat meal at the start of the summer holidays - and really nothing was too much trouble, despite being just before they needed to close. It was recommended my 4 year old would find the portion sizes too big so an extra plate was provided for her to share, which was perfect as she ended up eating very little. Unlike her brothers who polished theirs off in record time!

Love this place! Menu selection is unique, place is cosy, fresh waffles are very tasty, prices are very reasonable. My favorite is the jalapeno chicken savory waffle, light but flavourful. They also serve sweet waffles. Simple concept restaurant, no frills, works great!

We were a table of 6 (need to book up in advance for any size table - especially during uni term time as it is very small, popular and busy) There is an array of various savoury and sweet waffles - or you can get a 'Half and Half'! (which don't arrive at the same time) They all have wonderfully funny names too! The waffles didn't take too long to arrive and they were delicious, sweet and savoury were both light and really tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone - it needs to be expeienced!

popped on here today for the first time and what a find , small place which is upstairs and not the best stairs to tackle but the waffle are excellent , we had the sweet one with peanut butter and the other was the banoffee both were fantastic and the savoury type look good to .

I went to Waffley with some of my friends. I had a sweet waffle while some of my friends had savoury options. The waffles are really big so quite filling. They take a little time to arrive but the waffles are made fresh on site. The place isn't too big so it fills up quickly.

Delicious waffles and very helpful staff. We were there during a vacation and they gave us a lot of information which really helped us.

An interesting range of both sweet and savoury waffles. I had one of the sweet ones, which was loaded with chocolate, ice cream, oreo and syrup. They are big waffles, so they are very filling. You could tell that the waffles were made fresh. The café had a really nice feel to it. The waffles are around £5/6 each.

Fantastic place, loved by the kids. Some college boys had their lunch at the next table and cleaned their plates (they had savoury option). Steep stairs so be careful and obviously not accessible to less mobile. Toilets on sight and service good. Waffles were to die for and large portion size, we shared with half and half to our preference. Sitting was a squeeze but worth the effort. We had a the sweet option but savoury looked great too. give it a try but perhaps avoid rush at lunch time if you are a larger party.

Friendly staff and amazing waffles!

We popped in to indulge in one of my favourite American exports, the bacon and maple syrup waffle! The food was very good indeed, worth coming back too, but it took a solid 20mins to make. I'm no chef, but I would argue that 20+ mins is a little long to wait for some bacon and a waffle press.

Lovely tasty waffles. We tried sweet and savoury and they were fresh, tasty and big enough to share. The service was friendly and we didn't have to wait long. Sadly nothing gluten free available.

Up the narrow stairs, a really welcoming member of the staff is waiting for you behind the counter. Once your order taken (and the menu look is so appealing that it is a tough decision to make!) you can seat in the only room of the restaurant. Be careful there are not many seats however that is what makes the place so charming!

Stopped here after arriving in Durham for a long weekend. My fiancé had never had a sweet waffle before (only a potato one) so he wanted to come here, so of course I obliged!

Amazing waffles for breakfast or lunch. A wide selection of sweet and savoury waffles that suits any need. I really like the 'You Know Houmous Olive You' and the 'Peanut Butter Love' with ice cream. Extremely friendly staff will let you feel at home, and very nicely decorated place. You can order for delivery through 'deliveroo' as well, which is great!

I love coming here for a treat but it's also nice knowing there are savoury options on offer as well. The waffles always taste delicious but the only downfall as that the coffee wasn't that great as I had ordered a latte but it came out very frothy (but not to let this deter you from coming here).

Really good for what it is. If like me you don't own a waffle maker it's a good little snack to have and there's lots of variety from sweet or savoury and they're made very fast and you're served quickly nothing like a warm waffle with melted icecream and some chocolate mmmmmmmm

Came to Durham and rather than grab a bite to eat at one of the big chain restaurants, I wanted something a little more unique. I stumbled across this place on the bridge.

Very friendly welcome here. Good view of the street life from this first and second floor café . The stairs would very tricky for some people as they are step and winding.

I went here for lunch with my wife and three young children. I was a bit sceptical about whether this was really going to provide a good meal, as everything is waffle based, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

I really recommend sweet waffles, I really recomend it! Especially these with strawberries. what was the most surprising they do not have one set of cutlery! Despite not crowded caffe we have different sets. It was quite strange. But the service is really nice. I think I could recommend it for a dessert or lunch.

A lovely little quirky waffle shop! Lots of different choices although you can't pay on card which wasn't made clear but cash machine around the corner! Would recommend!
