Food is okay but service really slow

We live locally and have been going there every 3 months or so for the last few years. Got to admit, last couple of visits, including last week, have been really poor. Current menu is not great but execution is very bad. Bavette was almost inedible - meat was so "chewy". Not sure why but has gone into decline. I know some of my neighbours agree. Hope you can turn it around. Edit Jan 24. Well, they didn't turn it around and the chain was bought out of administration a few months ago. Tried it again a few days ago. Service was great and the place is nice enough but food still very average. A cold beef pate was an ok starter, but my lemon pasta was a weird idea which didn't work and my partners pork belly was just picked at. Mains come pretty naked so you need one or two sidess. A slice of chocolate cake out of the fridge was ok but uninspired. New owners haven't really changed things. £100 to share a starter, 2 mains, a side, share a dessert and bottle of house red. Nice bread though. Not a destination place and Rock and Rose or the ever reliable Cote offer better value or quality. Sorry.

A very nice restaurant with a great wine selection. Great starters and the seafood was really nice as well. Super friendly staff and atmosphere. Edit: came back in Jan 2024 and tried their Sunday roast. Also very good!

Great place for a glass of wine.

Amazing food, service and wine. Go with the paired wines with your food choices...such a great experience. Priced really well for the quality of food. And if you go with buying bottles to take away, they are half of what they are on the menu.

Nice casual atmosphere, small plates all a hit. While I realise the restaurant aims to feature less traditional pairings, a Chablis or Petit Chablis by the glass would be welcome.

We hosted an event for c. 35 people at Vinoteca Chiswick, and it was sensational - we couldn't possibly have asked for more. The service was impeccable - incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious (seasonal, interesting and very tasty dishes,) and (unsurprisingly) a great selection of wine. Highly, highly recommend to all.

Have loved Vinoteca over the years so it really pains me to write this. We visited recently and the restaurant was a let down in terms of food and service. Food was under seasoned and in one case had to be sent back as not fully cooked. The service was very lax, with Staff not paying attention to customers and spending significant amount of times in the back talking to one another whilst customers waited to be seen. I raised this with member of staff and he just shrugged his shoulders and walked off mid sentence. I do hope management review the situation as would love to see the restaurant back on top form.

Vinoteca has been my favourite local restaurant for several years and how disappointing it was to see a place a shadow of its former self - the iconic dish of bavette , horseradish ,chips and watercress is now more chips ,a small amount of watercress micro leaves and creamed horseradish .Most disturbing is the quality of staff ,who would much rather chat by the kitchen then look after punters - twice people had to come to the back to ask for service and the general laisse- faire attitude to the job dilutes the once quality atmosphere .

A great little neighbourhood restaurant. A great menu which is wonderful value, hard to find these days. Cracking service from charming front of house. And you can’t make a bad choice from the wine list.

Food: 1.5 Service: 3.5 Atmosphere: 3.5 Management: 1.5 Have lived locally for nearly 20 years & in the past Vinoteca food was nice. Ate here 2 days ago and portions were small, weird and pricey, considering. Ordered: Starter = Crispy squid. Cold & sent back for a hot one Main = Cod & muscle stew main was really a starter sized Moules marinières with a bit of cod and a couple of roast potatoes (whole) plopped under the fish as an after thought. Just weird. Dessert = x1 minuscule scoop of ice cream, flanked by 1/4 of a very hard, unripe, fairly tasteless nectarine, supposedly roasted. When asked why the dessert portion was so tiny, even by London standards, the MD said the chef said it was ‘to do with it being on the set menu’ (e.g. we’re making a markup on the set lunch & its your own fault for choosing it). I refused to pay for my piece of nectarine and after some discussion the bill discount. There were loads of opportunities to turn the thing around apologies, bring a complimentary whatever but no. I sensed budget was tight and then read the group was in financial trouble….sorry to hear but I’m not a bridging loan company.

The food was over priced and very small portions. The pasta had no seasoning and was over priced along with the starters. We had to get more food after eating there, we were still hungry. The atmosphere was great and the staff were not bad.

The vibe and service is chill, but the food probably is the worst I ever had in London. little portion without seasoning.

Go to resturant and bottle shop in Chiswick. The staff are extremely knowledgeable about their amazing selection of wine, and if you’re staying for lunch/dinner it’s hard to go wrong!

Amazing lunch! Went for lunch although the manager was by it self but great service, attentive but no intrusive, not rushed at all and food was simple but well executed and with great value £18 for 2 courses was great!

Just passed by for lunch! They have a super nice lunch menus super value for money! £18 2 course or £21 for 3!! 333 menus so something for everyone!! Also have the full menu too. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Super wide range of wine ! Cosy and has character.

Being a Bank Holiday Monday and many restaurants closed Vinoteca soon filled up. In fact it was the busiest I've seen it on a Monday. The manager was really on top of his job and clearly the right man to manage the situation. Unflustered he calmly got everyone seated and served. The food was excellent and original and the wine for which Vinoteca is known was as good as ever.

Great food and attentive service from the staff. The Recommendations from the waiter for both wine and main course were delicious. Thanks for a lovely evening. If the council could enforce the nighttime car ban on Devonshire road if would make the restaurants ambience much more pleasant, especially around the window seats.

My favourite restaurant in London. Delicious food and wine, lovely front of house staff, always warm and welcoming. We’ve come here for so many special occasions over the years and never been disappointed. A wonderful local restaurant.

We came late lunch-ish on a Sunday more for its wine bar vibe than food and ate tapas style from the small plates menu. Super, super wine bar vibe. Especially in the back near the kitchen. I have never come here for a “meal”. Really really good wines by the glass, and yes, if you’re going to enjoya glass of wine or two you need to eat something. It’s great for that but I don’t think Brits really understand how to enjoy a glass of wine with a nibble, they expect big drinking or a full meal , not both. Come here for excellent wines by the glass.

Delicious food and tremendous wine selection

Gnocchi was terrible (different sizes so they cook at different times and too dry), but the chicken was good and tasty. I’d come back and order British cuisine only

Went for a friend’s 40th & had a wonderful meal. Great service & gorgeous wines.

Poor wine choice, staff wasn't Italian, very loud place, narrow and unwelcoming environment, I didn't even get phone signal. Food was OK although a bit poor. Overall I don't recommend it.

Have been a couple of times and really love this place. The first time the food was better but the restaurant itself has a wonderful atmosphere so I am would be more than happy to give it a third chance. During my second visit there was 1 waiter serving all the tables so it was a but hectic for them. The bavette was dry instead of medium rare but the fish was excellent. Starters were also amazing. The only thing that was a bit off was the vibe but then again the restaurant was full and they only had 1 person running all the tables

Very cute little wine bar with nice selections and a tasting option for 3 x flavours to try. Cheese board was a little disappointing for the price.

It’s a real shame that Vinoteca in Chiswick keeps disappointing over and over. The one in Soho was brilliant!! They have a lovely location in Chiswick, great wines but for 2 years now living in Chiswick and many visits after and still insisting as it’s the only wine bar in the area, I give up! Their customer service is terrible!! It’s like you are doing them a favour to stay there, and they do little or almost no effort to accommodate you, and that’s across the board, from front of house to management.

Celebrating my 60th over a few days and we chose this restaurant to kick things off. We went through the wine list and let the waiter choose our last glass. Everything was perfect. Both myself and sister had a lovely evening.

I descovered this place passing by. Amazing atmosphere. Gabriele, the manager, advised me to have ricotta gnocchi and as a main dish their signature bavette steak. The food was beautifully cooked by the head chef Andrea. I did real enjoy and I will be back soon.

Very very happy with this place! Food was spot on! Wine selection is outstanding! Service was great, although our waiter was obviously very new so I think a bit more training would really benefit him as he seemed to struggle a lot with the service and menu knowledge. However, the service in general was incredible fast and efficient and the other waiter had great knowledge of the menu and I'm sure the wine list as well. I think this place just has a very cosy atmosphere, it's really nice to go in the evening and just order a bottle of wine and relax. Super inviting atmosphere! Will definitely be back!

Great spot in Chiswick for dinner and a few glasses of good wine. I’ve also been to 2 wine tastings here, including the Christmas one last year which I’ve signed up to again. Would highly recommend.

Amazing ox cheeks with polenta.

Many years ago I was a resident of Chiswick, and Vinoteca was the perfect reminder of what a wonderful area this is for wining & dining. Not sufficiently hungry to order mains, we ordered a selection of starters along with a bottle of the usually underrated Portuguese reds. The venison meatballs were particularly good, served with a light but spicy sauce. We also had the chickpea fritters and wild boar terrine, and there was as much as we could have possibly eaten for mains. We hadn’t booked, but were invited to sit at the high table in the back area among the wine racks and next to the kitchen. A great spot with a friendly, relaxed, but professional attitude from all the staff. Typically fairly pricey for this part of outer London, but this is what you should expect, and actually perfectly fine for the quality of food and service delivered.

What a gem of a spot! Beautiful wine bar with outside seating. Service was great and recommended some great wines for us to drink. Definitely coming back as I see they have some delicious set menus.

One year after I gave 5 * I have to change my review. Extremely slow service. We have been ignored pretty much all the time. Waiter was forgetting about forks, menus etc. Such confusing experience. Food was average. Steak was dry. Prosciutto salad came with one slice of prosciutto! Very disappointed.

Food was underwhelming and barely any seasoning. Enjoyed the wine. Felt a little uncomfortable hearing the head chef speak rudely to a young waiter.

The food last night was really avarage.. The steak was to chewy to eat.. The chocolate cake to hard to cut with the spoon.. Will not come bake again.

Last week I visited Vinoteca Chiswick and have been extremely disappointed, not only because of their prices but mainly because of their low quality of food. My friend and I got two glasses of white wine which were served at room temperature. I got the ham hock with lentils which was ok - my friend got the haddock with the risotto and the rice was undercooked. For dessert my friend got the chocolate cake, which we had to share, because I got the Poached Rhubarb which was literally some stems of celery in a bowl. We paid £75.

Valentines dinner, huge disappointment. Waiting staff were very good, but badly let down by the kitchen. Food was poor, gnocchi starter oily and a bit tasteless. Main smoked haddock with saffron risotto was a disaster, risotto had weird texture no taste and was overcooked. Sent it back, tried to charge me for it , demanded it was removed from the bill. Have eaten here before was fine. Not this time , others were complaining about pie, puddings, felt sorry for the servers. Kitchen was plainly under pressure, 1 hour before main arrived. Really need to get their act together, menu needs a revamp, so many other options in Chiswick that are much better, shame!

Two things I love about this place: wine and staff. Wine recommendations for every menu item are great and never disappoint. Staff are polite, nothing is too much trouble and they really know what they’re talking about when making a suggestion. One downside is the food. I used to love the menu. Even though there aren’t enough vegan options, the kitchen staff are always happy to substitute ingredients if possible. But the items on the menu have become a little disappointing recently. Kitchen staff, whatever you were doing before, please go back to that. This is in no way a complaint but more of a feedback as I want to come back again and enjoy the food as well as everything else :)

Great selection of wines to complement the food which is reasonable value. Beware the "maybe I'll try..."

So happy to have this spot in the area, especially as the street is so cozy and quiet. Very good selection of carefully curated wines at affordable prices. Coming back soon to try the food as it looked great on the plates that staff were bringing to other tables!

What a lovely find simple, effective. Tried to get a table across the road at the Michelin restaurant however they were fully booked fortunately for me. Superb wine selection served by someone who is as passionate about food and wine as myself. Get a bottle of Banyuls/Maury to pair with the chocolate desert and you will have nailed it. My mum was made up, thank you.

Wine by the glass is disappointing, service is to give the very last drop of the bottle and glasses are fair but not generous.. The food is delicious. The service is very friendly but completely overworked. The place is really crowded and very noisy. Very expensive for a brasserie type restaurant. I will go back though to try the wine list at bottle level and update the review.

The wine & decor of the restaurant was good. It had a nice atmosphere. However, I was really disappointed with the food. I had the vegan bavette & was really excited to try it. Sadly, when my food arrived the so called bavette was just a large soggy mushroom. Disappointed! £14 for a soggy mushroom and fries - what a rip off!! Please take this off your menu as it’s a disaster & you should be embarrassed to serve it to paying customers.

We have been going regularly to Vinotrca since its reopening last year. The food is delicious and menu updated frequently, lovely wine selection but most of all wonderful atmosphere and exceptional service. Great place for a cosy get together with friends over a bottle of wine and nibbles/meze style foods. We will certainly be returning for more.

Great food and value we love coming here

2x glasses of aperol spritz and a bottle of tap water = £22. I don’t mind paying more for more/quality but it was the smallest most tasteless aperol. I’m pretty sure each ice cube was £1...

Really charming place with excellent selection of wine at a good variety of prices. The food was a surprise and is really excellent, some really high quality produce is used. Service and staff are attentive and friendly. Lovely candlelit atmosphere as it gets dark. Highly recommended.

A really lovely atmosphere on a recently pedestrianised road. The staff are lovely and the food is great. The wine is even better. But definitely get the bread… with some wine. This place is great. And perfect for some people watching.

It was freezing outside where we were obliged to sit. Other restaurants all had heaters. They did not. Their wines are grossly overpriced. We left before trying the food but if it had been hot it would have been cold before one had time to eat it.

Absolutely amazing Bavette steak sandwich for take away. What a treat. Will be back.

Great food, service and atmosphere...European style food menu with an extensive wine list. A great place for date night.

We went there with my wife for a nice cozy dinner. The food was fantastic despite not having a lot of choice for vegetarians. The staff was kind, accommodating and friendly. We will definitely return there and order from them. Special mention to the cheese croquettes that were absolutely delicious! I'd love to see more vegetarian main options as the roasted squash was great!

The menu here is really good full of favourites and more unusual choices and from what we saw really well cooked. Crab salad to start, I maybe missed that it said it included onion on the menu, I don't ever eat raw onion. The bavette is superb and tagliatelle delicious. Unusual puds too I had quince semifreddo which was lovely. A tiny comment about service, my experience was gender bias. The steak was served to my male friend, it was mine; the chocolate pud was served to me it was for my friend and when I said I was paying the bill there was a pause to see if my male friend wanted to. Gender bias or not, its better to note who is ordering what and serve it that way. Otherwise great food and good wine reasonably priced.

Vinoteca Chiswick special Sunday lunches each month are always a treat and yesterday's was no less so. Sandra is a great manager and always very attentive. The cook does some delicious food, the selection of wines are excellent and the wait staff are efficient, pleasant and polite.

Lovely little find. So glad we decided to try it out. The atmosphere was great and staff friendly. There weren’t that many vegan/vegetarian options so I decided to get a starter and a few snacks. Bread basket was really big which was a pleasant surprise and excellent value for money. Olive oil served with the bread was amazing and the starter was really good size and so delicious. Loved that there were wine pairings with all the food options on the menu. That just makes it so easy and I must say, I usually don’t like white wine, but tried one that was suggested and did not regret it. Will definitely be back during the week to try the seasonal menu!

I'm normally a fan of vinoteca, however I was disappointed with the food and wine from the set menu. The level of service was really good, friendly and efficient, 5/5 From the set menu the Sangiovese was ordinary, a bit too sharp for me 2/5 Smoked Ham Hock Terrine was the star for me, great texture, flavor, and a good portion 4/5 French Poussin was well cooked but the whole dish lacked seasoning 2/5 Neal’s Yard Cheese was good, however you only get a single cheese which is unclear from the menu 3/5

Incredible food, diverse wine selection and friendly staff members. The branch in Chiswick is my absolute favourite place to go and the employee named Will is incredibly friendly and adds such a positive vibe to the place.

Came here on a Tuesday as they are running the Eat Out to Help Out discount during August. They offer a three course fixed menu for £20 , which would have been very good value at full price, but at £10 is an absolute steal. Spent far more on a very nice bottle of wine (a white Rioja). Highly recommended.

First post lockdown meal! Welcoming service, wide selection of wines. Food menu is small but inclusive of vegetarian and vegan options, and very tasty - thumbs up for the vegan bavette. Covid-19 measures include no paper menus (check the menu on your phone), contact tracing and staff wearing masks. Felt very safe.

Love this place! Went with family who live locally. The place was buzzing. We sat at back near the open plan kitchen. Service top drawer, starters amazing, very agreeable red and brilliant steak bavita? Would love this to be our local restaurant!!

Simply delicious every time we go. Excellent food, knowledgeable staff, perfectly matched and interesting wine with a huge selection of exceptional Portuguese wines. We have used the bar room on two occasions for family celebrations and everyone comments on how lucky we are to have this on our doorstep. We know!

Had the Tase of Normandy themed Sunday lunch and it was amazing. Already booked for the Basque themed one next month. Great food and great atmosphere.

Nice atmosphere and good selection of wines by the glass. Food was underwhelming, overpriced for what you get. Steak dish needed some sort of sauce, and was expensive considering the cut and just a hand of undressed watercress as accompaniment.

El gerente y su equipo no podrían haber hecho más para que fuera una ocasión tan memorable y la comida y el vino eran, como siempre, bien considerados y deliciosos.

Food is delicious and the wine is obviously good too!

I enjoyed the food and wine but the service here leaves a lot to be desired. Won't go back in a hurry after paying £80 for lunch when the welcome and service was, frankly, very poor, unfriendly and no smiles.
