Vineyard Greek Taverna in Southwark

I’ve been coming here for the last 5 years, and it’s absolutely 10/10. It’s authentically similar to a Greek taverna, and obviously no thrills - but that’s what is so great about the place. Staff amazing. I’d recommend the chicken kebab, with rice and salad - so delicious. The meze also very nice.

Exactly what you want from a local restaurant with a great family-owned vibe. Looked after like I was part of the family!

It's a local restaurant that feels like something you'd find when traveling to a small city in Europe. The staff were so friendly, and the food was delicious! The portion size is quite generous, so I think it would be better to mix it up with the sides rather than ordering it all as a main menu.

It was a family visit. The rest of them really enjoyed the meat dishes, I was the only Vegan person there. I ordered Black eyed peas as a main dish but unfortunately it was a bit disappointing. I ordered Black Eyed Beans for the main course - £13, got a plate full of beans with a tiny bit of spinach ( looked like 4 leaves) in some oil with lemon. It looked like beans were just poured out of the tin ( not saying it is but looked like) it wasn't nor very appealing not exciting looking or appetising. It came with a plate of rice, rice was nice. But for £13 you expect something more appetising looking and a bit more complex than just peas spread on the plate... That is something to improve on so Vegans can enjoy your restaurant as much as Meat Eaters do when they come to eat as a family or a group.. Thank you

Just had a delicious meal here today with a friend. We got the sharing vegetarian meze, absolutely delicious and a great variety of dishes that were of superb quality. The second course of vegetarian moussaka was equally as good. For dessert the baklava was really fantastic. Great service with very friendly attentive staff. I highly recommend a visit!

Our favourite local go-to place, we absolutely love the staff, the food and the atmosphere here 😊 Meze’s are yummy and great value, but all the other things on the menu are generously sized and must-try, too! 🤤

Went with a 12-strong work related group. We all shared in the meze, which were lovely. A selection of some 6-8 starters. All were lovely, though I found the dolmades and halloumi too salty for my taste. Mains were lamb, chicken, kofta with salad and chips. Chicken especially was yummy. A good night.

Food & service is just to perfection. Freshly homemade traditional Greek Cypriot food cooked with local fresh ingredients. This restaurant has been family owned since 1974. Even if you pass by on a Friday they also do a great fish & chips or sweet potatoe fries, you can even have the whole seabass butterfly opened. You won’t be disappointed with any of the food.

Been coming here for the last 6 years and it is the top restaurant within miles of its area. Food is amazing and owner is a lovely, friendly man. Recommend the prawns and chicken Shish. Cocktails are delicious too.

Came here after a very quick google for somewhere to eat and it did not disappoint. We had the small mezze for two, some grilled halloumi and a couple of cokes. Everything tasted great and staff were attentive. Recommend!

Such truly delicious food (the meatballs are out of this world!), fantastic value and warm, caring service. One of the few places a meal for two is still affordable without having lost any of the high standards of food and service.

We booked on a Thursday evening at 8pm and ordered the 3-course mezze at about 8:20 or 8:30. The staff were really nice but rushed us through everything, clearing plates when we were literally still eating off them. They eventually told us the kitchen would be closing at 9 and we had to have our final course straight away. Probably would have been a good idea to share this info at the time we ordered three courses. All felt very rushed.

We are for the first time here. Food and atmosphere are great! All you need for a nice local dinner in a good company.

Such a shame that the restaurant looks lovely! But the head waitress ensured I left without ordering when she spoke to me rudely & abruptly, telling me to WAIT, rolling her eyes at me when I asked if I could place an order! No customer service or smile so no custom!

We had the three course meze. Enjoyed every dish of 15 but we gave up before finishing the third course, no room for more. Servers were cheerful.

I came here with my girlfriend as we kept meaning to give this place a visit, and boy were we happy that we did! The atmosphere was great, the service was friendly and attentive, the food was delicious and portions offered fantastic value for money. We ordered the Meze for two people (£50.00) and two Coke Zero (£5.00). Highly recommended!

A wonderful restaurant with a great atmosphere reminiscent of a classic Greek tavern. The staff was very friendly and fast. The dishes were a bit poor but very tasty and very good quality.

The food was good and the service was very attentive. As others have said, the mezze platter is very good value for money (2 adults struggled to finish all the food) and it allows you to taste the main dishes from the menu. Definitely recommend it if you like sharing! The baklava was also nice and not sickeningly sweet.

The food was ok but we where rushed to leave the restaurant before we even finished our food. We got the bill thrown on our table without asking for it. The owner seems to be nice and happy until he got the bill cleared from us. "Will be nice if they inform the costumers to eat as fast as they can, so they can serve as many people as possible".

Another excellent meal with family last night. Some having moved to another part of South London travelled back to go here. The spanokopita is now a slice from a large pie rather than individual pies. The ratio of filling to pastry works better for now. There is now a choice of chips or roast potatoes and as the waitress said people always react positively to that. Yummy, Greek Style roast potatoes was the verdict. Glad it was just a refit and they didn’t close due to Covid.

Lovely authentic Greek Cypriot cuisine.

I have been going to this restaurant for years and years and so have my family and friends and so I was very upset when I went there yesterday with my family to be treated appallingly by some new waitresses that were serving us. Food was good as always but service was atrocious and made me very uncomfortable to the point my uncle swapped seats with me! We had just finished eating our starters and the waitress came over to clear table and asked if we wanted our mains yet to which we asked if we could have 5 or 10 minutes before. She said we'll it will take about 5 to 10 minutes to cook to which we replied perfect. My partner and uncle went out for a quick cigarette I must add the restaurant wasn't busy and then 3 of the waitresses started talking about us asking for 5 or 10 minutes more before our mains and they were looking at me directly and then laughing I started to feel really uncomfortable. My uncle and partner came back in and I told them what happened then I could see one of the waitresses who was the same one talking about us really staring at me. We caught eyes and she just continued to stare and then rolled her eyes at me giving me a dirty look! This was the point I swapped seats with my uncle as he and my partner had seen her do it aswell. Our mains came and I wasn't enjoying my time after that I was really upset to be treated like this in what was one of my favourite restaurants! The manager came over and asked if everything was OK and my partner said not really and we told him. The waitress came over at that point and I told him it was her. To which he replied they would talk later and he did apologise a few times. She tried to make excuses and then he said she was new and perhaps didn't realise she was staring so much and then he gave some more excuses to which my partner replied look we will just leave it there. When the bill came I was upset to see he had not taken off the service charge for the awful service we received or offered us a drink on the house to apologise for our awful experience and for this reason I now won't be going back there ever again as I feel there was no customer service there at all! We were very good customers there and spend a lot of money there each time we go. I will miss the food there and Happy memories along the years but I feel so let down after the way we was treated there yesterday!

Lovely setting, takes you right back to the Cyprus/Greece. Terrific people, they went above and beyond to save the day on my birthday. Great menu of all the greek favourites. Delicious meatballs, and skip the rice or chips with the lamb shank (and other dishes) the Greek roast potatoes are to die for, totally yumny! Thank you so much xxx

This is one of our favourite restaurants. Despite living over one hour away we often visit. We love the Meze. Always too full to try desserts.

We booked a table outside in advance but when we got to the restaurant they hadn't prepared one so we had to be inside for half our meal. The mezze looked promising on the menu but it was very disappointing. The staff were really friendly and hospitable. Unfortunately, I feel they were understaffed and they were clearly stressed. This might come down to poor management.

What a shame. My favourite London restaurant - no exaggeration - has had a makeover and lost its star dish. Gone are the 1970s/80s plastic grapes which oozed old retro charm and gone from the menu is the signature oktapodi in red wine. For 18+ years I have made occasional visits to the vineyard JUST to eat that dish. It was that good. New lighting is too harsh too and along with the removal of the plastic grapes and bazoukis that decorated the interior, has really reduced the appeal of eating in the vineyard. What a shame.

Wide range of dishes ... everything delicious. For many known favourites ( ... calamari, taramasalata, moussaka ... ) we felt they were the best we have ever tasted! Thank you for a lovely treat.

The food as ever is scrumptious and the staff are so friendly and accommodating. I would eat there every time we are in London.

The food was delicious. I tried traditional mussaka and wine leaf wraps. The execution was closed to perfect. However, the wine was unique. I am big wine lovers and I have to say that this was one of the best Greek wine I come close too. We tried Kuros red wine, which is med to full body, really fruity with with hint of tannin. If you like California or napa Valley wines. I highly recommend to try this wine.

Had chicken kebab & rice & salad, it was good!! Had a couple of glasses of red wine (not sure which one) , really smooth 😎! They're great with kids & good service. Thoroughly recommend and definitely come back.🙂

Have been wanting to go here for sometime, decided tonight was the night, oh why did we bother food was very bland im not a lover of McDonald's but at least there food had more taste, service was not that great although polite apart from them taking our order had to ask for other items, not once did they come and ask us how our meal was and than had the cheek to put service charge on our bill, I saw another post on the reviews where they stated they had travelled all around Greece and they compared the food from there as to what is served in the restaurant stating how good it is, if that's the case remind me not to go to Greece,

Sadly the food was very disappointing. It was bland, boring and flavourless. No one in our group particularly enjoyed the food and at best some dishes were average. The staff were very attentive. Perhaps overly so which made it not a particularly relaxing evening. I last went here many years ago and was sadly very very disappointed.

Lovely atmosphere on a warm and sunny evening sitting outside. The chicken was tender and seasoned perfectly and served with fluffy rice. Another good reason to love camberwell!

I went to this restaurant a few weeks back. I did enjoy the food, and my seabass was really tasty and fresh. The only point of disappointment was discovering that the boss is not giving the tips to the waiters!! 3 stars for this reason - give the tips to your employees!

Small family-owned business where you can get typical greek-cypriotic food at its best. The famous meze and the typical cypriotic beer are heavily recommended - both for lunch or dinner sitting outside under the trees.

Good location on camberwell grove road - good selection of Greek beers , nice heated outside area which is good for chatting and taking in the local areas atmosphere. Food itself is disappointing - chips or rice are offered with the mains which seemed a little simple - the mains themselves weren’t very tasty - we had the meat mezze and Stuffed Vine Leaves and neither of us thought they were any more than average dishes. Halloumi was however very good! Definitely worth a visit but it’s not a place for a delicious Greek meal out, rather a beer and a couple of starters on a sunny evening.

I was really excited to go to this restaurant but I was very disappointed. The lamb shank I ordered was SO dry and the dips had no taste and the wine was hot. For what it was it was so overpriced!!!! The service was quite rude and the rice had clearly been our of a microwaved pack! I hope you have a better experience but knowing how amazing the food is in Greece and other creek restaurants around London, this was such a shame and an embarrassing representation. Go to any other restaurant in Camberwell as it is definitely better!

When it closed we were concerned it had shut as another victim of Covid. Then the new website and phone number. Glad to say we went last night (they reopened last Friday) and the owner and food are as before. We sat outside but what we could see inside looked similar - no change to the layout, new flooring and white walls as freshly painted. Menu looked pretty similar. Mezes and dishes we remembered. Prices a bit higher but I’m not sure I remember them going up in a while. Mini meze £14.00, kebab £13.00. We didn’t recognise any of the front of house staff apart from the owner but the service was good. Food - cooking and portions were as before. Sitting on a Camberwell street doesn’t have the atmosphere of a Greek harbour but the food and a cold glass of retsina is as close to Greece as we’ll get this summer. We’ll be back. If Covid is a consideration for you then there appeared to be what I’d call a very Greek (laid back) approach. Hand sanitiser was provided, the new windows fold back and were fully open so more fresh air than there would have been, tables were cleaned down between guests. No masks on staff.

Went here after it has been recently refurbished. A list of why you shouldn’t visit this restaurant - Waited 20 minutes to even make a drinks order. Tiny portions. Hair in the Spanakopita - also saw another diner complain about a fly in their drink. The person serving us brazenly used her finger nail to scrape away at an ingrained piece of food on a plate until conceding that it probably was better for her to get us one. The Melitzanosalata was essentially pure garlic with a touch of olive oil. Greek salad looked like it had been left out for 3 weeks, desiccated cucumber. The Vineyard Special (see attached picture) genuinely made me laugh when it came to the table. Dolmades almost certainly from a tin. The lamb chop was one mouthful and smelled like BO. Worryingly wet chicken. Borderline rude and consistently inattentive staff. We were charged £42 for a £23 bottle of wine, as well £6.50 for a chick pea dish we didn’t receive - we didn’t chase it up as we wanted to leave before midnight. Staff said they thought we ordered 2 bottles of wine, which still doesn’t make sense. No apology and made to feel like an inconvenience for not wanting to pay £100 for a terrible meal. Overall felt like I was on a hidden camera show. I didn’t know Kitchen Nightmares was still going.

Delicious Greek food. My favourite was the dolmades. Serving waiting time took a little longer but that was a positive thing because it meant food was not precooked. Once served it tasted like an original Greek home made food should taste; probably even better. Staff were friendly and attentive. I took a second portion of dolmades for home and that was the only negative part. Although it tasted fantastic the container's portion was ridiculous small and overcharged. However, I am definitely visiting again and I can't wait to plan it

I was a regular customer many years ago & moved from the area. Just a trip down memory lane. just as I remembered it. A good evening, good food and pleasant evening.
